Thousands of households have been stripped of power and major transport links have been disrupted after Storm Eleanor lashed the British Isles with winds of up to 100mph. The Met Office warned gusts from the fifth storm to hit the UK this season could pose danger to life from flying debris. Widespread disruption is expected on Wednesday after the storm brought heavy rain, rail and thunder and lightning as it swept across the country. A number of major bridges and roads were closed due to falling trees or as precautions overnight on Tuesday as Eleanor caused travel disruption in the

Although the weather in the UK is pretty crappy most of the time, this is a big storm for them. I sounds like they have taken the proper precautions, closing bridges, tunnels etc.

The size and power of the storm is far more typical of weather in the U.S. where we may see two to three of these a year. 100mph winds may not even make the news.

Either way, I wish them well and hope the damages are low and no one is killed. Quick recovery.

Naming storms is stupid.

The current crop if media hysterics who masquerade as weather reporters are really, really tiresome.

CANONSBURG, Pa./WASHINGTON - Republicans sounded alarms on Wednesday after Democrats claimed victory in a Pennsylvania congressional election seen as a referendum on U.S. President Donald Trump’s performance, although the vote tally remained officially too close to call. In an ominous sign for Trump’s Republicans eight months before national midterm elections, moderate Democrat Conor Lamb led conservative Republican Rick Saccone by a fraction of a percentage point for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The final result may not be available until Friday. The election should have been a shoo-in for Republicans in a district that Trump won by almost

LONDON - Britain is to kick out 23 Russian diplomats, the biggest such expulsion since the Cold War, over a chemical attack on a former Russian double agent in England that Prime Minister Theresa May blamed on Moscow. May pointed the finger firmly at Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday as she outlined retaliatory measures in parliament. Russia denies any involvement in the attack on ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, who have been critical in hospital since they were found unconscious on March 4 on a bench in the southern English city of Salisbury. GERMANY´S top industrial body says companies must begin worst-case planning for a hard Brexit if no deal is reached at an EU summit next week. Democrat Conor Lamb is poised to upset Republican Rick Saccone in Pennsylvania´s 18th Congressional District, which could put a big dent in the Trump brand. In what had been slam-dunk district for Republicans in the past, polling over the weekend showed Lamb, a federal prosecutor, six points ahead of Saccone, a Pennsylvania state representative. The previous person to hold the seat, disgraced Republican Rep. Tim Murphy, who resigned over a sex scandal, won by 28 points in 2012, the last time the Democrats even bothered to field a candidate in the Western Pennsylvania district. The Exodus of Holocaust survivors from Europe had its own Amalek, and his name was Mackenziez King. Among the recent wave of immigrants there seems to be a sense of entitlement…entitlement rather than gratitude. Some, like the Dreamers, go marching to INSIST on their RIGHTS. Others, like the Holocaust survivors who came to America in the 1940s, imagined no rights. They, like my own family, were grateful for anything and everything. Small favors were all they asked…and small favors were what they got. There was no Israel back in 1944 when my family managed to flee Nazi-invaded France, Toulouse, to be exact. There was

Clinton is in Mumbai, India, at the India Today Conclave, a “a meeting point for the best minds from India and around the world to map the geopolitical and economic future of the country.” But instead of keeping her focus on the complex and numerous problems facing India, Clinton took aim Monday at Americans who voted for Trump. Rigid sexual orientations have defined the preference of men and women for decades; however, a new study is attempting to do away with strict definitions of sexuality. The study, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, argues that there’s no such thing as a “straight” man or woman. Rather, people operate on a spectrum. Researchers showed men and women different kinds of pornographic material. Rather than relying on self-reporting, the study looked at physiological responses to the sexual material. Namely pupil dilation, which is a sign of sexual arousal. The study found that women’s eyes dilated when they viewed a man and
