New York and co. are paying
the price for being Deep Blue

New York Post, by John Podhoretz

The cold wasn’t the only thing that hammered the Northeast in the final fortnight of 2017 — and we can thank our extreme political polarization for the traumas we New Yorkers and New Jerseyans are about to suffer. On the last night of the year, the Trump administration informed New York and New Jersey that there was no longer a deal with the federal government to help fund the desperately needed new rail tunnel between the two states — a $13 billion hit. Before that came the signing of the tax bill, whose limitations on the mortgage-interest and state- and local-tax deductions

Why should they get a break on federal taxes just because their states have snow income tax. Liberals are always stating that everyone should pay their fair share. Well, pay yours and don´t ask me to subsidize your state´s largesse.

Dear John,

It has nothing to do with you being Deep Blue.

It has to do with you being a septic tank of Union and other political corruption and the fact that the work could likely be built for a fraction of what the Commucrat puppetmasters say it would cost.

It´s not Trump´s fault, it´s yours for being corrupt.

Deal with it.

Liberal cities and liberal states do well spending other people´s money. They have received an unfair advantage for a long time. Now that things are coming more into balance they will whine about unfairness. They are probably still receiving far more than they deserve but at least some pushback has happened.

One would think they might wise up and restrain spending but then they wouldn´t be able to buy votes. So they will go further into debt with the plan being a bailout by some future dem administration.

All American, regardless of where they live, and other considerations, should pay exactly the same federal taxes for the same income and situation.

The concept that some will pay less in Fed taxes than others is absolutely unfair. What you may or may not pay in local taxes should have no affect on your federal taxes.

That said, I don´t trust Podhoretz, he is an insane NeverTrumper, which means he is dishonest and has corrupt motives. Never to be trusted.

I don´t trust Podhoretz, but I sure enjoyed this observation:
"A loud Republican voice in Washington advocating for the necessity of the tunnel might have had real influence on the administration. Instead, you have Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand hurling mud at the White House every chance they get, while New Jersey’s Cory Booker circulates an impeachment petition."

Tell me whether you think they count as far-left, far-right, or neither. admiration for Vladimir Putin; higher taxes for the rich; hostility toward immigration; assertion of national sovereignty; protectionism; more welfare spending; anti-Americanism; suspicion of financiers; obsessive hatred of George Soros; mild dislike of Jews; pronounced dislike of Muslims; family values. On Saturday, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released his memorandum in an attempt to rebut the Republican memorandum that HPSCI Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) released on February 2. As I wrote on February 5, the Nunes memo describes the FBI’s and the Department of Justice’s abuses of their law enforcement powers to spy on the Trump campaign and its advisors during and after the 2016 election. The Schiff memo is cleverly written, making several assertions by which it attempts to confuse and misinform on the issues. It flails and fails in Schiff’s effort

Broward County sheriff´s officials said in a statement late Saturday that they responded only to 23 calls involving suspected Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz or his family over the years, but records obtained by BuzzFeed News show at least 45 responses since 2008. The number of calls made over the years involving Cruz or his family, according to the call records, are nearly twice the number publicly disclosed by the department. On Saturday night, the Broward County Sheriff´s Office released a statement pushing back on reports that they had been called more than the 23 incidents released by the department.

AZUSA, Calif. — By the time Senior Special Agent Sam Richardson’s team rolled up to the small house on Lark Ellen Avenue in a cool twilight, it had little to show for several hours of work. The stops in San Dimas and Covina: no luck. At the gray house on a corner in Pomona, yes, Nohemi Page was home with her infant. But the four pistols registered in her name — guns that felony convictions in California now rendered illegal for her to possess — were long gone. When Page went to drug rehab, her aunt placed her belongings in a storage unit, then stopped paying the monthly fee. The guns, as elusive as quicksilver in a country

It took a while, owing to delays over classified information, but Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have finally released their rebuttal to the "FISA abuse" memo put forth earlier this month by committee Republicans. The GOP accused the Justice Department and FBI of relying heavily on the unverified Trump dossier in a secret court request to wiretap the sometime, volunteer Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page. That is simply not true, say Democrats in their rebuttal. "FBI and DOJ officials did not ´abuse´ the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) process, omit material information, or subvert this vital tool to spy

Democrats on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence omitted several key facts from their memo on the FBI and Justice Department’s use of the Trump-Russia dossier in applying for a spy warrant on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in 2016. The Democrats’ memo, released on Saturday, claimed to refute a similar memo released on Feb. 2 by committee Republicans who alleged that the FBI and DOJ had abused the FISA system in obtaining the warrant. The Democratic memo omitted several key points. The Democratic memo ignored Republicans’ contention that former FBI Deputy Director Andy McCabe testified in December that the

I generally avoid discussing gun control/mass shootings because the arguments are so rote and the arguers are so calcified that few minds are likely to change. For what it´s worth, I would like to associate myself with David French´s arguments here about the state of the debate, the gap between right and left on the issue, and what might be done to curb gun violence even more than it has already been curbed. But it is worth noting, briefly, that the shooting in Parkland, Fla., represented a rather large failure to adhere to the rules learned after the Columbine shooting almost

The chief of staff has had a rocky couple of weeks — first it was the imbroglio over ousted White House staff secretary Rob Porter, and now stories of a brewing clash with Jared Kushner — but he is as close as it gets to an indispensable man in the Trump White House. Where else is the president going to find someone whom he likes and respects (at least on most days), who can intimidate the White House staff into a semblance of order,

In a recent tweet, President Trump asked: “Why didn’t Obama do something about the (Russian) meddling?” It’s a good question, especially since, as President Trump pointed out, “all of the Russian meddling took place during the Obama administration.” The answer to President Trump’s question is that over the course of eight years the Obama administration neglected to take cybersecurity seriously, even though in 2013 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned of a “coming (cyber) Pearl Harbor.” Despite repeated intrusions, and though independent agencies concluded that our defenses against hackers were woefully inadequate, the Obama White House made only cosmetic attempts to protect our
