After serving seven terms as Utah´s senator, Orrin Hatch announced Tuesday he plans to retire. "When the President visited Utah last month, he said I was a fighter. I´ve always been a fighter. I was an amateur boxer in my youth, and I brought that fighting spirit with me to Washington. But every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves. And for me, that time is soon approaching," he said in a video. The senator said when his term ends he will not seek re-election. "I´m deeply grateful for the privilege you´ve given me to serve as your

I have no doubt that Senator Hatch is a fine man. BUT. For the life of me, I can´t think of one thing he has accomplished.

Good, seven terms is too long regardless of party. Too much cronyism and removal from the constituents that they were elected to serve (i.e John McCain).

Bummer news of the day because it means Romney gets elected to the Senate. Utah is the only place Romney can get elected, and Mormons do not like Trump. The minute Romney gets to the Senate, he will be reaching across the aisle...... AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

Utah, if you get on the ball and work hard you can avoid a Uniparty win here with the former presidential candidate that many think laid down for the 44th president to carry on in his destruction.
GET ON IT! Get the best candidate that can win against the former presidential candidate. The Uniparty is counting on this seat. Do Not Let Them Have It! #MAGA depends on it!

Personally, I think any senator/congressperson should be phased out of Congress before they reach 75/80 years of age. Not sure which. But, I believe they should be retired (made to retire). Most companies (unless the person owns them) forces retirement on us civilians at least by 70. Why should these "power mongers" be allowed to sit there and dictate to us until they´re senile. I would think they´d rather retire and spend time with their families in their "golden" years. Instead, they stick around to inflict laws they don´t want to obey themselves.
No beef with Orrin Hatch, but we´ve got old lady Feinstein here in CA who plans to run again this year--she´s 84 and rich; she doesn´t need anymore added to her pension. But she just keeps on "running" (I´m sure she couldn´t run 1/4 mile physically). Term limits, age limit, whatever.

Mitt has paid his dues as far as the Bush moderates, GOPe leadership is concerned and he has spent millions setting himself up to buy some political power. So, its true, he IS a shoo-in. Mia Love has proven to be a non-boat rocker so she will not cross the establishment by challenging Mitt. No way.
#7, you are right about the Mormons not liking Trump. They are much more socially liberal than most people know. They are just quiet about it. PDJT is way too conservative for them.

It´s wrong to stereotype ANY group. I´m a participating "Mormon," and I certainly don´t consider myself to be "socially liberal."
1) I´m anti-abortion in almost ANY circumstances (possible exception - life of mother or child). 2) I´m fully supportive of "build the wall." 3) I´m anti-amnesty. (We can talk about the law-abiding and contributing "dreamers" - AFTER the wall has been funded and is underway.) 4) Does this make me "socially liberal"? I´m fully in favor of decriminalizing demon reefer. It´s none of the government´s damn business! (I consider that socially conservative.)
Some Mormons are more liberal than me... many are more conservative, except for the reefer thing.

Hatch was a superstar in the C. Thomas confirmation hearings. When Chairman Biden left the room late in the hearings (and not in Primetime), the rules of the committe were trashed by Senators Kennedy and Metzenbaum. While these two idiots did try the usual Democrat hatchet job, Hatch put the brakes on it and forced Senator Biden, when he returned to correct things. Hatch was a trooper with Reagan. Hatch has done a great job at times. Its just he is long past his ´use by´ date. Good move Senator Hatch and enjoy your well deserved retirement.

It´s always funny when posters warn me about things while supporting GOP establishment candidates who exemplify those things. People came to Trump at different times for different reasons. After the election, Mitt Romney came to Trump when he wanted a job.
Before that, Romney was the most prominent Never Trumper in the GOP. He did everything in his power to lose the presidency to Hillary Clinton.
Mitt Romney is, and always has been, a politically unprincipled opportunist. We elect guys like this at our peril.
Anybody But Romney.

First Lady Melania Trump greeted French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the White House on Monday, alongside President Trump, in only the most luxurious French designs. While welcoming the French leader and his wife to the White House, Mrs. Trump paid homage to fashion icon Hubert de Givenchy — founder of the French fashion house “Givenchy” and known for dressing actress Audrey Hepburn — who died last month in a black wool tuxedo-inspired cape. The cape, although Givenchy, could have easily been mistaken for a black tuxedo cape out of Anthony Vaccarello’s latest collection for Saint

We value intelligence and knowledge. With good reason. Intelligent, thoughtful illumination has an uplifting effect on individuals and a civilization. We´ve seen that many times throughout history. The founding of our American Republic is one such stellar example.Back in the 1980s, I recall someone lamenting how the most qualified and best candidate to never become president was Adlai Stephenson. Certainly, the Democratic Party has been trying since Stephenson to claim the mantle of "intelligent." Democrats are always the smart ones – smarter, better policies, and as a result morally superior. Now, it´s hard not to notice that the pinnacle of the

The question asked in the CDC survey addressed the use or threatened use of a firearm to deter a crime. “During the last 12 months, have you confronted another person

New York Times reporter Amy Chozick has a new book on Hillary Clinton and the 2016 election, and one anecdote in particular from it was getting attention on Friday. It's from election night, when Chozick writes in Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling that it finally became clear somebody had to break the news to Clinton that she was going to lose to Donald Trump. The task fell to "Robby Mook, the drained and deflated campaign manager," per an excerpt in the Times. And when he finally did so, Clinton "didn't seem all that surprised," writes Chozick. Then the key Clinton quote: "'I knew it. I knew this would happen to me,' she said, now within

WASHINGTON — For once, President Donald Trump is opting to go smaller. The president who delights in bigness — of his buildings, his crowd sizes, his hands — is opting for a slimmed-down affair when he hosts French President Emmanuel Macron for his first state dinner on Tuesday. Planned Parenthood is once again proving its hunger for powerful allies in government positions. GOP control of the Senate is narrow, and with the upcoming Senate races, the power balance could tip in favor of Democrat, pro-abortion advocates. Planned Parenthood knows this, of course, and will be pouring a reported $30 million into abortion advocacy through its political arm. This money will be spent on Senate and gubernatorial races in a number of states, including Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and will be used to fund TV and digital ads, direct-mail campaigns, and even advocacy in the public square.
