Heartbroken pals of a Scarsdale teen killed with his parents and two brothers in a fiery Costa Rican plane crash made a grim pilgrimage to the tragic family’s home Monday to try to work through their grief. Jonah Gray, 18, was best friends with middle child William Steinberg, also 18, since both were 2. Gray recalled how they watched “Thomas the Train” and played with Legos before moving on to “The Family Guy” and varsity tennis at Scarsdale High School and basketball at the Westchester Reform Temple. “For the first time in my life, I feel like an adult —

How can anyone read about a tragedy like this one and be concerned with only the language the writer used?

That is cold.

This did turn out to be a tragic family. They were said to be lovely, caring people. Even the boy who did the shooting was said to be a kind, decent kid.

We never know what goes on in any other’s mind. Attempts to guess are always just that. Guesses.

A couple of possible causes jump out. The plane is designed for nine passengers but a waiver can be granted for up to 14. This one had ten passengers and two pilots but how much luggage? The pilot´s turning action suggests they were flying low to enjoy the scenery and were probably blown too close to the mountain and had to attempt a near vertical wing turn trying to miss it but hit treetops with the wing.

Don´t overload a plane and don´t attempt to fly too close to anything in high winds. Very tragic accident that was probably avoidable.

Where are the candles, grief counselors and assorted do gooders? This will give the "grieving teens" something to "grieve" about for the rest of their "grieving" lives. Look at US. Look for them on the news starting another "grieving" foundation.

You can speculate that a single propellor driven overloaded aircraft being flownat low level during windy conditions in a mountainous region might run into trouble. If that was a Costa Rican registered aircraft that crashed in that country, who knows if a competent investigation will be done.

Third world airlines. Nope, not me. I am an experienced pilot, and will not risk it with some of these iffy pilots flying aircraft maintained by local mechanics with limited budgets and questionable skills.

One needs to be proactive in risk management. When I traveled in the former soviet states, many times we hired a driver and car recommended by local colleagues, or took the trains rather than flying on some of the sketchy local airlines, mostly flying ancient soviet Tu-154s and Tu-134s. Better to take a whole day driving than die on a junk old soviet airliner maintained by drunks. Smaller countries, and smaller airlines, not good risk management, especially in other than sunny, calm weather. But in any weather, the maintenance in the 3rd world is often sketchy at best.

One of the coldest regions of the world saw some rain Thursday — a shower of silver and gold, that is. A plane carrying 9.3 tons of precious metals lost part of its cargo Thursday as it was taking off from Yakutsk Airport in Siberia, scattering treasure across the runway as it gained height. Gold bars fell out of the Nimbus Airlines Antonov AN-12 cargo plane and landed as far as 16 miles from the airport, according to the Siberian Times. The plane had been taking off after refueling at the airport when its cargo door flew open. At least 3.4 tons

President Trump is moving closer toward shaking up his administration in a big way, according to sources familiar with his thinking. The Washington Post reported Thursday night that Trump had decided to fire H.R. McMaster, his national security adviser. Shortly after the story broke, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to the Post’s reporting on Twitter: “Just spoke to @POTUS and Gen. H.R. McMaster - contrary to reports they have a good working relationship and there are no changes at the NSC.” It was, notably, not a denial of the Post story or that President Trump had decided

Saucier was charged and jailed in October 2016 for taking photos onboard a nuclear submarine in 2009. He believes his case was an attempt by the Obama administration to “take the heat” off of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server at the State Department.

My husband and I managed to raise six children on a very limited income, (as I was a stay at home Mom for 15 years), sending them to private Catholic schools for twelve years. Now we enjoy watching them do the same with our 13 grandchildren. What is disheartening, however, is how today´s children are being systematically exposed to issues we parents never had to contend with raising our own decades ago. Is it liberalism or just plain evil that´s taking away the innocence of childhood? Why on earth should kindergarten curricula include lessons on gender reassignments or anything to

An official briefed on the shooting investigation tells CBS4 News that the carnage could have been far worse. Investigators believe self-confessed gunman Nikolas Cruz had planned on using a vantage point on the third-floor stairwell on the west side of the building to shoot at students as they fled the building. Cruz attempted to create this sniper’s nest by shooting out the glass window in the stairwell, firing 16 rounds into the impact glass. Luckily, the hurricane proof window did not

One way to make sense of the onslaught of political corruption investigations and prosecutions in recent years is to understand it as our legal system trying to draw the line between political misbehavior that is merely shady and that which is outright criminal. Instead of looking at each of these cases in isolation, it makes more sense to see them as a pattern — and one that should provide some at least limited reassurance to President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and their supporters. Begin with the Republican governor of Virginia, Robert McDonnell. He and his wife were indicted on federal
