After accusations of sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse, Peter Martins, the powerful leader of New York City Ballet who shaped the company for more than three decades, has decided to retire. “I have denied, and continue to deny, that I have engaged in any such misconduct,” Mr. Martins, 71, wrote in a letter dated on Monday informing the board of his retirement, which takes effect immediately. Mr. Martins, who has been on leave as the company investigates his actions, added, “I cooperated fully in the investigation and understand it will be completed shortly. I believe its findings would have vindicated
I am female and I state unequivocally that this is beginning to look like the Salem Witch Trials. There is actual harassment and then there is what goes on in the real world, and a lot of women are beginning to look like Snowflakes. Anything a man says is harassment, if he touches your back once by mistake (Jeffrey Tambor) he is evil, even when he apologizes. I am NOT speaking about the Weinsteins, even the Dustin Hoffman´s (what a shame as I always admired him) who use their power to either rape, harass or embarrass women. I am talking about run of the mill commentary and actions. I believe Martins, it goes without saying.
Our 28 year old daughter is a professional dancer - ballerina. And she attended a residentialballet h,s, in another country. She has not talked about sexual abuse, but the physical and psychological stuff reigns supreme, in an occupation the requires perfection. Weight is a critical factor in personal appearance, height, especially for women, is critical. There are no ´too tall jones´ female ballerinas.
It helps that our daughter is a perfectionist, like most ballerinas.
This "Me Too" crap is out of control. I would like to start a "Not Me too" movement. Obviously, the Left has nothing else to write about these days. Most of these Ashley Judd´s are has been actresses and Hillary supporters...aka Losers, typical feminists, always complaining, always playing the victim looking to blame someone else for their insecurities.
A ballet company is defined by its balletmaster, and based on the excellence of the NYC Ballet, Martins is superb at his job. If balletmasters and coaches and music teachers of all types, are now to be forbidden to yell and scream and lose their tempers, or heaven forbid, touch a pupil, it might make for easy sailing for students, but rest assured those students will not reach the heights that they might have had the full humanity of their instructor been allowed to express itself. As we say here on Lucianne.com, liberals destroy everything in their path. Much like locusts.
Ballet companies treat their young dancers like Kleenex. Use one up, throw it away and another will pop up.
Since the 2008 Recession when donor/subscribers turned their backs on companies, there are millions of ballet dancers, from high school drop-out hopefuls to college degreed dancers trying to get the same jobs at even the lowest entry level. Many will apprentice for free or even have parents make large contributions to the company or subsidize their child´s hospitalization and living expenses on the small chance a "job may open up next year".
No dancer is going to bite the hand that feeds them and company´s creative personnel feel no obligation to treat or even pay the dancers well.(See Kleenex analogy).
Peter Martins is not the worst autocrat but maybe the most visible. In the USA the NYCB and SAB are the most professionally organized of all the professional companies including,in my estimation, ABT and SFB. To see real dancer abuse, look at 3rd and 4th tier ballet companies in cities under 200,000. "Everything is beautiful at the ballet" but not in the ballet.
It has been nearly a month since Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the most sweeping overhaul of the tax code since the 1980s. Of the 185-page bill’s many provisions, perhaps the most consequential is a reduction in the federal corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. Among the tax bill’s leading opponents was Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who was scathing in her denunciation of what she called the “GOP Tax Scam.” Shortly before the final vote, she delivered a blistering speech on the Senate floor. “Today is
A lot of people who used to like me don´t like me anymore because I didn´t vote for Trump, and I didn´t pretend he was a good candidate or a good person, and I refused to make excuses for his behavior, as "conservatives" are apparently supposed to do now. I just couldn´t do it. Nonetheless, I couldn´t vote for Grandma Hillary either, so I was pleasantly surprised that she lost. Whew! As Election Day 2016 approached, I had been mentally preparing myself to endure at least four more years of listening to that woman, after the previous quarter-century of listening to
Democrats are threatening to shut down the federal government, refusing to pass a spending bill unless it contains a path to legal status for the so-called “Dreamers” protected under President Obama’s DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. Are the Democrats really concerned with the status of these young people brought to the U.S. illegally as children, or with reforming our broken immigration system? No. They are trying to score political points. Let’s review: Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., recently went to a closed-door meeting at the White House to push his immigration plan. He was so genuinely intent on getting a bipartisan deal
NEW YORK — In her first televised interview, Dylan Farrow described in detail Woody Allen’s alleged sexual assault of her, and called actors who work in his films “complicit” in perpetuating a “culture of silence.” Farrow, the adopted daughter of Allen and Mia Farrow, appeared in a taped interview Thursday on “CBS This Morning.” Farrow recounted the 1992 incident, when she was 7 years old, in which she said Allen molested her in her mother’s Connecticut home. “With so much silence being broken by so many brave people against so many high-profile people, I felt it was important to add my story
In the era of President Donald Trump, Democrats think presidents should be impeached over policy differences. In Trump´s case, the Democrats accuse him of winning the election by "colluding" with Russia to win. After nearly a year of investigations, there does not appear to be any evidence. Yet many Democrats have already called for impeachment. In truth, Democrats want this President out because they don´t like him or his policies. One of Trump´s major campaign promises was to build a "wall" to protect our southern border. Never mind that, in 2006, 26 Democratic senators -- including Hillary Clinton, then-Sen. Barack Obama and
The first opportunity for a successful end of the Second Civil War, between President Trump and the incumbent political class, has been squandered by the Democrats. Nothing could be done until Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan accepted that they could no longer pretend to be happy neutrals in the mortal combat between Trump and the Democrats in Congress, waiting to see whether Trump would be impeached or not. Trump won the chicken game with his ostensible partisan colleagues in Congress, after the collapse of the Russian-collusion argument based on the spurious Steele dossier commissioned and paid
Weirdest thing. I had just come back from my first-ever treadmill stress test. Never had done such a thing before. They tape all these little squares on your chest, have you walk on the treadmill at 1.7 miles an hour at a certain incline, take your pulse and blood pressure, then increase the thing to 2.5 miles an hour and up the incline, then increase the pace to over 3 miles an hour, upping the incline, continually monitoring the blood pressure, the pulse, all kinds of other stuff on their screen. And then comes the stress test — they tear
“It’s pretty embarrassing when you have to take your children out of the room to report the news,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, whined Monday. Mr. Graham, longtime pal of Sen. John McCain, was complaining about President Trump’s alleged use of the word “s–hole” to describe Haiti and some other nations in Africa and Latin America in a meeting Thursday. Both Mr. Trump and the White House said he didn’t say the word, but the media and liberals (along with “Republicans In Name Only” like Mr. Graham) had already gotten their undies in a wad. Mainstream news outlet CNN reveled in the
Last week the Trump administration announced it will allow states to impose a “community engagement” requirement on healthy adults getting Medicaid, the public health insurance program for lower income people. So far, ten states intend to do it, though not welfare-haven New York. To get Medicaid, adults in these states will have to work or look for a job, study for a high school diploma, learn English as a second language, volunteer, get addiction treatment, or take care of a family member. In short, do something. Democrats and the liberal media call the requirement “cruel” and “pathological.” Baloney. There’s no
Have you you ever noticed that for today’s civil rights movement, every racial problem is the equivalent of the Edmund Pettus Bridge? Everything is Selma! And have you ever noticed that for modern environmentalists, the Cuyahoga River is burning forever? What would have happened if the Edmund Pettus Bridge had been built over the Cuyahoga River? You’d get climate change uber alles. To wit: Jacqueline Patterson of the NAACP’s Environmental and Climate Justice Program says to achieve [Martin Luther] King’s vision, we must address climate change. Patterson: “We see climate change as a civil rights issue.” She says minority and low-income populations are
The New York Times dragged out a sanitized version of Hillary Clinton once again, in a lament that she had to expire politically to create an uprising. But people who want to see women advancing in politics should be glad that she lost. Clinton was not a role model, as her model wasn’t available to anyone who hadn’t married a president. A bad politician, she was dependent upon him, and when he turned out to be a chronic seducer and even abuser of women, she was willing to threaten and even destroy his victims to assure his success. Hillary Clinton’s biggest moments
A Maryland transportation firm executive´s indictment last week in the FBI investigation of a corrupt uranium deal was not "coincidental," Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton suggested on Fox and Friends Monday morning. The charges come after reports released in late December revealed that the Justice Department was taking a fresh look at the Uranium One deal that gave a Russian company control of 20 percent of the U.S. uranium industry while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. Fitton couldn´t say for sure if the fresh scrutiny led to the indictment, but added, "It´s, I don´t think, coincidental, a few months after it´s
A review of a classified document outlining what is described as extensive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuse was made available to all House members Thursday and the revelations could lead to the removal of senior officials in the FBI and Department of Justice, several sources with knowledge of the document stated. These sources say the report is “explosive,” stating they would not be surprised if it leads to the end of Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel investigation into President Trump and his associates. The House Intelligence Committee passed the motion along party lines Thursday to make the classified report alleging extensive
After leaving office, President Ronald Reagan created the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award to recognize individuals who have fought to spread liberty worldwide. Nancy Reagan continued the tradition after her husband’s death, and in 2008 she bestowed the honor on human rights icon Natan Sharansky, who credited Reagan’s strong defense of freedom for his own survival in Soviet gulags. Reagan recognized that as leader of the free world, his words carried enormous weight, and he used it to inspire the unprecedented spread of democracy around the world. President Donald Trump does not seem to understand that his rhetoric and actions reverberate in
Men can now look forward to a liberated future of wearing dresses. One such fashion designer, Alejandro Gomez Palomo of Spain, is helping to rush in that new era. According to the 25-year-old Palomo, whose public appearance looks as if Dracula spent a weekend at Liberace´s house, gender fluidity is a way of life he hopes that future men can share. In an interview with AFP, Palomo likened his fashion revolution to the ones ushered by Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent in the 20th century. "Chanel liberated women (after World War I) by dressing them in male fabrics like tweed,"
Pope Francis has conferred the title of “Commander of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St. Gregory the Great” on Lilianne Ploumen, a Dutch politician and vocal agitator for abortion rights. Last year, Ploumen founded a pro-abortion organization called She Decides, which offers funding and support for international NGOs that provide, facilitate or campaign for abortion. In an email to the Catholic Herald, Ms. Ploumen said that she was “very honoured” by the pontifical medal, which was sent via the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs last month. In an interview with Dutch radio, Ploumen said she views the honor as a
Obama’s current office, which is run by former de facto President Valerie Jarrett, is just a mile or so from the White House. It is at that location one sees a daily procession of donors, political operatives, party affiliates (BOTH Democrat and Republican) media friends (of which there are many) and more shadowy figures representing a myriad of foreign interests. And each day this office and its two primary inhabitants – Obama and Jarrett, are asked the same question: WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT TRUMP? Obama being Obama, with his solar-system-sized ego intact, has been promising to do
The House Intel panel’s passage of New York Republican Rep. Peter King’s motion to release the FISA abuse memo to fellow House members has rocked Washington, D.C. (Photo) Lawmakers from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) have called for the classified memo’s immediate release. According to Fox News contributor Sara Carter, the contents of the memo are so “explosive,” that it could end special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe once and for all.Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino warned the release of the FISA report will destroy the image of his former boss Barack Obama.“Take it to
California lawmakers are targeting the expected windfall companies in the state would see under the federal tax overhaul with a bill that would require businesses to turn over half to the state. A proposed Assembly Constitutional Amendment by Assemblymen Kevin McCarty, D -Sacramento and Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, would create a tax surcharge on California companies making more than $1 million so that half of their federal tax cut would instead go to programs that benefit low-income and middle class families.
Former FBI director James B. Comey is joining the faculty of his alma mater, the College of William & Mary, and plans to teach a course on ethical leadership at the school’s Washington center starting in the fall. Comey, whom President Trump fired last year, will have a nontenured position as an executive professor in education, the school announced Friday. His course will be offered through the W&M Washington Center to students of the public college based in Williamsburg, Va. Comey will teach the course in fall 2018, spring 2019 and summer 2019 with executive assistant professor Drew Stelljes.
During his town hall tour across Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has given explicit notice to pro-life Canadians that their beliefs on abortion make them second-class citizens. (Snip) According to the article, Trudeau warned that "an organization that has the explicit purpose of restricting women´s rights by removing rights to abortion, the right for women to control their own bodies, is not in line with where we are as a government and quite frankly where we are as a society." According to Trudeau, his tongue-lashing of pro-life groups was prompted by responses to a change to who can receive grants as
Far from content living his golden years on the $400,000 speech and lecture circuit of other former presidents, President Obama has been busy with clawing back for his old power. He´s actually covertly plotting to oust his democratically elected successor, President Trump, vowing to his associates to "rip him a new one," in the 2018 midterm elections. Seems he´s not all that interested in watching his youngest daughter grow up. That´s the word from DCWhispers, which reports that Obama´s Kalorama mansion, in the heart of the capital´s most tony district, is the center of significant comings and goings among the Obamatons,
Microwaves are as damaging to the environment as cars and users must be taught how to cook more efficiently, scientists say. The ovens are responsible for 7.7 million tons of the carbon dioxide pumped out from the EU each year — the equivalent of 6.8 million cars. Researchers say they are fueling global warming with consumers overcooking food to blame. Microwaves account for the largest percentage of sales of all types of oven in the EU, with numbers set to reach 135 million by 2020. But scientists at the University of Manchester — the first to assess the environmental impact
Sara Carter reports on a classified document that was released to all members of the House today. The document seems to be a compilation of information, prepared by House intelligence committee staff, relating to the anti-Trump dossier, the FBI, the warrant to conduct surveillance on members of the Trump campaign, and the use of that warrant. Carter calls the document a bombshell. Her sources say its revelations might lead to the removal of senior officials in the FBI and Department of Justice, and perhaps even the criminal prosecution of some. They also say, less plausibly, that the revelations could lead to
