After accusations of sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse, Peter Martins, the powerful leader of New York City Ballet who shaped the company for more than three decades, has decided to retire. “I have denied, and continue to deny, that I have engaged in any such misconduct,” Mr. Martins, 71, wrote in a letter dated on Monday informing the board of his retirement, which takes effect immediately. Mr. Martins, who has been on leave as the company investigates his actions, added, “I cooperated fully in the investigation and understand it will be completed shortly. I believe its findings would have vindicated

I am female and I state unequivocally that this is beginning to look like the Salem Witch Trials. There is actual harassment and then there is what goes on in the real world, and a lot of women are beginning to look like Snowflakes. Anything a man says is harassment, if he touches your back once by mistake (Jeffrey Tambor) he is evil, even when he apologizes. I am NOT speaking about the Weinsteins, even the Dustin Hoffman´s (what a shame as I always admired him) who use their power to either rape, harass or embarrass women. I am talking about run of the mill commentary and actions. I believe Martins, it goes without saying.

Peter Martins shaped the company with a great deal of $$$$$ help from Anne Bass. I remember when he was Anne Bass’s very favorite some years back.

I always thought sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse were part of ballet. George Balanchine comes to mind...

Our 28 year old daughter is a professional dancer - ballerina. And she attended a residentialballet h,s, in another country.
She has not talked about sexual abuse, but the physical and psychological stuff reigns supreme, in an occupation the requires perfection. Weight is a critical factor in personal appearance, height, especially for women, is critical. There are no ´too tall jones´ female ballerinas.

It helps that our daughter is a perfectionist, like most ballerinas.

This "Me Too" crap is out of control. I would like to start a "Not Me too" movement. Obviously, the Left has nothing else to write about these days. Most of these Ashley Judd´s are has been actresses and Hillary supporters...aka Losers, typical feminists, always complaining, always playing the victim looking to blame someone else for their insecurities.

Successful busy women don´t have time for this.

A ballet company is defined by its balletmaster, and based on the excellence of the NYC Ballet, Martins is superb at his job. If balletmasters and coaches and music teachers of all types, are now to be forbidden to yell and scream and lose their tempers, or heaven forbid, touch a pupil, it might make for easy sailing for students, but rest assured those students will not reach the heights that they might have had the full humanity of their instructor been allowed to express itself. As we say here on Lucianne.com, liberals destroy everything in their path. Much like locusts.

Ballet companies treat their young dancers like Kleenex. Use one up, throw it away and another will pop up.

Since the 2008 Recession when donor/subscribers turned their backs on companies, there are millions of ballet dancers, from high school drop-out hopefuls to college degreed dancers trying to get the same jobs at even the lowest entry level. Many will apprentice for free or even have parents make large contributions to the company or subsidize their child´s hospitalization and living expenses on the small chance a "job may open up next year".

No dancer is going to bite the hand that feeds them and company´s creative personnel feel no obligation to treat or even pay the dancers well.(See Kleenex analogy).

Peter Martins is not the worst autocrat but maybe the most visible. In the USA the NYCB and SAB are the most professionally organized of all the professional companies including,in my estimation, ABT and SFB. To see real dancer abuse, look at 3rd and 4th tier ballet companies in cities under 200,000. "Everything is beautiful at the ballet" but not in the ballet.

Former British spy Christopher Steele visited the State Department in October 2016 and briefed officials there about his work on the infamous anti-Trump dossier, it was revealed on Wednesday. “Based upon our review of the visitor logs at the State Department, Mr. Steele visited the State Department, briefing officials on the dossier in October 2016,” Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr said during a hearing held to review the U.S. government’s response to Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Despite the sprawl of Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz’s 568-page report on the Clinton-emails investigation, there is precious little discussion of the most important issue: The Justice Department and FBI’s rationale for declining to prosecute Hillary Clinton. I believe this is intentional. The inspector general’s message is: “Despite pervasive political bias and investigative irregularities, which I have comprehensively documented, rest assured that nothing too terrible happened here.” That silver-lining version of this dark spectacle could not have survived a searching analysis of the decision not to indict. Trump signs order stopping his policy

President Donald Trump, under pressure from angry members of his own party, signed on Wednesday an executive order that is meant to keep families together at the border, halting a policy he instituted earlier this year. "It´s about keeping families together while ensuring we have a powerful border," Trump said of the order. Trump said the order "will solve that problem" of children being separated from their parents, but that it wouldn´t end his administration´s "zero tolerance" policy of charging everyone who attempts to cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, a decision that led to the current crisis.

Remember Anthony Weiner, also known as “Carlos Danger” — the former congressman who kept texting people pictures of well, umm, that part of his name? It all made quite the splash because he is married to Hillary Clinton’s consigliere and constant sidekick, Huma Abedin. So, he got raided by the New York Police Department and the New York office of the FBI. They seized his laptop computer.

In one of their brave bursts of rage at the police state they live in, Democrats are now up in arms about voter suppression. They compare it to the days before the Civil Rights Acts and the civil rights movement. Nonwhites in the South were kept from the ballot by heavy poll taxes, tests laden with arcane bits of knowledge, or the threat or reality of actual violence. Those were cases of people who were longing to vote, but deprived of the franchise by malice aforethought. Today, things are about as different as you can imagine. Today, the supposed problem

More Americans are satisfied with the country’s direction than at any point during the Obama presidency, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The survey found that 38 percent of the population is content with the way things are going — the highest rate since 39 percent of the country reported they were satisfied in September of 2005. The satisfaction rate, which Gallup began tracking in 1979, is also back in line with the historical average of 37 percent. And it’s the first time since 2005 that Gallup has recorded consecutive months with satisfaction above 35 percent. Last month, 37

What started in 2016 as an investigation into equipment and data theft has evolved into a case about falsely obtaining home equity loans and sending money to Pakistan. As the probe evolves, there have been dozens of shocking reports about the family’s activities and access. The plot twists have spawned numerous conspiracy

As several cities continue their suit against oil companies, The People of the State of California v. BP, Judge William Alsup has boiled the case down to its pivotal question. It was an extraordinary sight—as the queen and Meghan Markle sat on chairs watching a performance by a group of schoolchildren on Thursday, Meghan leant over and whispered something in her grandmother-in-law’s ear, and the monarch chuckled. Her Majesty then made a canoeing action, in friendly imitation of the kids’ performance, and laughed again. The queen has a fairly simple policy on public emotion which is to not show it, ever, and this is not because she is some unthinking adherent to the principle of the stiff upper lip, but just because it makes life simpler, and avoids people being upset

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,
