Peter Martins Retires From New York City
Ballet After Misconduct Allegations

New York Times, by Rogin Pogrebin

After accusations of sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse, Peter Martins, the powerful leader of New York City Ballet who shaped the company for more than three decades, has decided to retire. “I have denied, and continue to deny, that I have engaged in any such misconduct,” Mr. Martins, 71, wrote in a letter dated on Monday informing the board of his retirement, which takes effect immediately. Mr. Martins, who has been on leave as the company investigates his actions, added, “I cooperated fully in the investigation and understand it will be completed shortly. I believe its findings would have vindicated

I am female and I state unequivocally that this is beginning to look like the Salem Witch Trials. There is actual harassment and then there is what goes on in the real world, and a lot of women are beginning to look like Snowflakes. Anything a man says is harassment, if he touches your back once by mistake (Jeffrey Tambor) he is evil, even when he apologizes. I am NOT speaking about the Weinsteins, even the Dustin Hoffman´s (what a shame as I always admired him) who use their power to either rape, harass or embarrass women. I am talking about run of the mill commentary and actions. I believe Martins, it goes without saying.

Peter Martins shaped the company with a great deal of $$$$$ help from Anne Bass. I remember when he was Anne Bass’s very favorite some years back.

I always thought sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse were part of ballet. George Balanchine comes to mind...

Our 28 year old daughter is a professional dancer - ballerina. And she attended a residentialballet h,s, in another country.
She has not talked about sexual abuse, but the physical and psychological stuff reigns supreme, in an occupation the requires perfection. Weight is a critical factor in personal appearance, height, especially for women, is critical. There are no ´too tall jones´ female ballerinas.

It helps that our daughter is a perfectionist, like most ballerinas.

This "Me Too" crap is out of control. I would like to start a "Not Me too" movement. Obviously, the Left has nothing else to write about these days. Most of these Ashley Judd´s are has been actresses and Hillary supporters...aka Losers, typical feminists, always complaining, always playing the victim looking to blame someone else for their insecurities.

Successful busy women don´t have time for this.

A ballet company is defined by its balletmaster, and based on the excellence of the NYC Ballet, Martins is superb at his job. If balletmasters and coaches and music teachers of all types, are now to be forbidden to yell and scream and lose their tempers, or heaven forbid, touch a pupil, it might make for easy sailing for students, but rest assured those students will not reach the heights that they might have had the full humanity of their instructor been allowed to express itself. As we say here on Lucianne.com, liberals destroy everything in their path. Much like locusts.

Ballet companies treat their young dancers like Kleenex. Use one up, throw it away and another will pop up.

Since the 2008 Recession when donor/subscribers turned their backs on companies, there are millions of ballet dancers, from high school drop-out hopefuls to college degreed dancers trying to get the same jobs at even the lowest entry level. Many will apprentice for free or even have parents make large contributions to the company or subsidize their child´s hospitalization and living expenses on the small chance a "job may open up next year".

No dancer is going to bite the hand that feeds them and company´s creative personnel feel no obligation to treat or even pay the dancers well.(See Kleenex analogy).

Peter Martins is not the worst autocrat but maybe the most visible. In the USA the NYCB and SAB are the most professionally organized of all the professional companies including,in my estimation, ABT and SFB. To see real dancer abuse, look at 3rd and 4th tier ballet companies in cities under 200,000. "Everything is beautiful at the ballet" but not in the ballet.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif — From Malibu to Santa Cruz, wealthy people are blocking access to California’s publicly owned beaches. And no group has fought the public longer than the gated community of Hollister Ranch, about 130 miles north of Los Angeles. For more than 36 years, residents there have spent millions of dollars on lawyers and lobbyists to bar the hoi polloi from an 8.5-mile-long beach adorned with several coves. In May, after more than four years of litigation over public access to the beach, a settlement was announced between the ranch cooperative, on one side, and the California Coastal Commission

Kristin Davis, the Manhattan Madam who went to prison and was connected to former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, is being subpoenaed in the Robert Mueller investigation ... TMZ has learned. Davis worked for former Trump aide Roger Stone for a decade, and had numerous interactions with Stone and Andrew Miller -- who ran Davis´ campaign for Governor and who was subpoenaed by Mueller a month ago. Sources familiar with the matter tell us, Davis´ lawyer is negotiating the scope of the subpoena with Mueller´s team. As you know, Stone was referenced in the indictments last week of 12 Russians who allegedly

Are you tired of all the winning yet? If you are a conservative who has followed the trajectory of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), you might be getting to that point. From its inception, the CFPB has been a big government liberal’s dream: no Congressional oversight, limitless investigative authority, and a leadership succession plan that seemed more feudal than democratic. Indeed, when CFPB Director Richard Cordray resigned in November 2017, the Left claimed he, not President Donald Trump, had the authority to appoint his successor. According to them, Deputy Director Leandra English was Cordray’s rightful heiress. So when the President appointed Mick

BERLIN — Nazi comparisons have become such frequent occurrences almost anywhere in the world that they rarely draw attention these days. But in Adolf Hitler´s birth country, Austria, they usually still strike a nerve whenever they come up. They certainly did so this week, after Jewish organizations criticized the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), the ruling coalition party in the state of Lower Austria, over pursuing a proposal that would require Jews to register with the government if they seek to purchase kosher meat. The same rules would apply to Muslims. “This constitutes an attack on Jewish and Muslim life,” the

"What if we were wrong?" That is the question then-President Barack Obama asked as he rode along in his presidential limousine with his foreign policy guru Ben Rhodes. The question came in the aftermath of the surprise presidential election victory by political newcomer and television reality star Donald Trump. Obama questioned whether he and liberals had forgotten how important identity was to people and had pushed a progressive agenda too far, too quickly. Obama wasn´t only wrong in understanding where the electorate was in 2016 but was frequently wrong throughout his presidency. The following Washington Free Beacon supercut displays 77 instances when Obama

Brockton Mayor William Carpenter slammed Warren’s bill on behalf of the Masphee Wampanoag tribe, which would override a federal judge´s decision last year to block the tribe’s plan for a luxury gaming resort in East Taunton. Beating your wife is worse than protesting during the national anthem. So, too, is sexually assaulting a woman. While that might seem obvious, it needs to be clarified given The Associated Press´ report Thursday that the Miami Dolphins are now including protesting during the anthem on their list of "conduct detrimental to the club." Under NFL rules, that´s an offense punishable by a suspension of up to four games. The Dolphins later told the AP that "all options are still open." But to give you an idea of how heinous at least one NFL team sees trying to draw attention to racial and economic inequality, a four-game suspension is

Before the word "resignation" became a euphemism for being fired, it connoted a sense of public integrity and personal honor. Attorney General Elliot Richardson and his deputy, William Ruckelshaus, showed both qualities when they resigned from the Nixon administration during the Saturday Night Massacre in 1973. Jimmy Carter’s secretary of state, Cyrus Vance, did likewise when he resigned during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. Assuming Mike Pompeo and John Bolton still have their own senses intact, they, too, should resign following the epic disgrace of the U.S.-Russia summit inHelsinki on Monday.
