Pakistan has summoned the U.S. ambassador in protest against President Trump´s angry tweet about the country´s ´lies and deceit´. David Hale was summoned by the Pakistan foreign office on Monday to explain Trump´s tweet, media said. A spokesperson for the US Embassy in Islamabad confirmed the meeting took place. Meanwhile Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif dismissed the outburst as a political stunt. In a withering attack first thing on Monday morning, Trump said the United States has ´foolishly´ handed Pakistan more than $33billion in aid in the last 15 years and had been rewarded with ´nothing but lies and deceit´. ´They

Are they more worried about the implied insulted or losing the money that no doubt finances some cushy Pakistani lifestyles? I presume its the latter.

Pakistan is getting pretty bold. First "Demand" an explanation from the U.S. ambassador. Then the PM of Pakistan said that Trump´s tweet was a "political stunt". When the the money begins to stop we will see if he thinks it´s a political stunt.

I love the way that one tweet can totally change the balance of power between nations for decades. Bravo Trump!

The decision to abandon India to curry favor with the Paks was a dreadful mistake, one that served immediate tactics rather than long term strategy.

Much of foreign aid (when you read the list in 2014 $$- total then about 43 billion)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_foreign_aid) is issued by rote- habit, and it is a bad habit. Some of the countries on the list get aid in spite of having absolutely no obvious strategic significance to the US at all. In some cases, the aid is issued as a small leverage in case Americans get into trouble, the US can have some input about their cases. But, clearly, the aid is not at all cost effective spending millions per case and many are insignificant- Other cases revolve around extradition treaties, other around drug interdiction and UN treaties on environment and ocean fishing enforcement. The Liberal Administrations of our past, from carter onward, involved pay-offs to petty dictators, many of whom are now dead, in order to get their support in votes on environmental issues at the UN- Yes, bribe money that continues to this day and no one in either country even knows why the US is paying it now. Likely the 2017 dollars are much higher. Obama tossed "foreign aid" around as adoration money (like old kings tossing coins before them to the adoring crowds even though everyone knew they were human monsters.) That "aid" still continues.

Pakistani leader cannot appear to buckle to US pressures in public, their people are NOT against the Taliban and jihadis, al Qaeda and Taliban have a lot of power inside that country. We may be able to get some real assistance behind the scenes from time to time, but anyone imagining that they will somehow be suddenly fully on our side, fully cooperating should set out their Easter basket and put a tooth under their pillows. The Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy will be riding in on a Pakistani unicorn at the same time they fully cooperate.

If they cooperate too much, the leaders will very likely be assassinated, like Benazir Bhutto and her brother. Tightrope for them.

Ultimately, keeping their nukes from falling into jihadi hands is the most important part of the Pakistani puzzle. Getting serious cooperation on Afghanistan is a goal, but has to be secondary to nuke security.

We must also keep in mind that we have substantial forces in adjoining land locked Afghanistan which depend on ground supply of stuff like fuel being trucked in from Pakistan. Also how about the doctor who has been jailed in Pakistan for aiding our efforts to get Ben Laden? Obama tossed him to the wolves too.

Trump needs to send a follow-up tweet asking why all of Usama´s neighbors knew that he was in the compound but the Pakistani intelligence services didn´t. That would be good for a couple of tantrums.

They have been harboring terrorists since the Russians were fighting in Afghanistan and the entire time after 2001 that we have been there.

Correct answer to this demand, "Ummm, we did find Osama Bin Laden living essentially next door to your military academy, where you train the best and brightest of your next generation of military leaders. Are you trying to say no one in your government noticed who was living there? Then after that, you imprisoned the guy who told us that he was there. That suggests that you were more unhappy that we found out Osama was there than that he was there.
I think perhaps you need to explain more than we do."

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina lawmakers have given key approval to a sanctuary cities bill backed by Gov. Henry McMaster, but not without some changes. After hours of debate Wednesday, the House gave second reading approval to the bill penalizing local governments for not reporting people in the country without legal permission. But lawmakers also changed the proposal to allow courts and not the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to determine if local governments aren´t reporting people in the country illegally. A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Iran´s southern province of Bushehr which is home to a nuclear power plant on Thursday. State television reported the earthquake around 10am local time saying the epicentre was close to the town of Kaki in a sparsely populated area. The epicenter is also 60 miles away from the Bushehr nuclear power plant. There was no damage to the plant, state reports said, and no immediate reports of damage or casualties elsewhere. Bushehr, the country´s only operating nuclear plant, has survived earthquakes in the past, and was built to withstand tremors in earthquake-prone Iran. The semi-official Tasnim news agency said

He has been a lifelong Republican and said that in today’s party, the only Republican he does respect is former 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Those relate to the agency’s purchase of a $43,000 sound booth for his office and spending on travel and security. The resolution was signed by 39 senators in the 100-member Senate, which is controlled by Pruitt’s fellow Republicans. Although Republicans can defeat it, the resolution is symbolically important because it represents the most senators ever to call for a Cabinet member’s ouster in resolution, its sponsors said.
