Colorado shooting: Details emerge
about suspect Matthew Riehl

CBS News and Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

DENVER -- Authorities in suburban Denver were investigating what led a 37-year-old man to fire more than 100 rounds in his apartment on sheriff´s deputies, killing one and injuring four others. Two civilians were also injured. The Douglas County coroner identified the suspect as Matthew Riehl. A YouTube user named Matthew Riehl posted a YouTube video Dec. 13, saying he wanted to replace Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock and railing against the sheriff and other officers in profane, highly personal terms. (Snip) Spurlock said deputies came under fire almost immediately and were shot "very, very quickly" after entering the apartment

Shooter had a bizarre fixation on local Sheriff´s department which they knew about. Perhaps they should have smoked him out instead of entering the apartment.

SeeBS - they just can´t help themselves. What the heck was the point of that last sentence in the article? None, other than keeping their bias consistent.

Have to agree with OP. Why in the world would they walk into that apartment?

#2, if you read the article you would know that he is dead.

Nutcase with a fixation on the sheriff´s, and his friend/roomate (unclear) said he was ´having a nervous breakdown´, so apparently entirely irrational.

As to "Why in the world would they walk into the apartment?"....because they are law enforcement, and that is their job. It is a very difficult and dangerous job, and we need to understand when occasionally they make errors in the middle of a confusing, violent encounter. Sometimes their errors cost them their lives, other times they may shoot an innocent person. Not excusing obvious, clear errors, there are too many of them, but we need to appreciate that sometimes things are too fast moving and complex to be certain in a fraction of a second exactly what is happening. They deal with the insane violent people, so we don´t have to.

RIP Deputy.

Please excuse me if I overlooked text in this article which I skimmed. The Cheyenne paper reported today that the killer served in the Wyoming Guard, was deployed to Iraq in 2009, and honorably discharged in 2012. It is also reported that he graduated with a law degree from the U of Wyoming in 2010.

Good info #4. Wonder if he was having some mental issues related to combat? Of course, large number of troops who deploy are not ever in actual firefights, so impossible to know even approximately what he went through unless someone with person knowledge of his service comes forward.
The roommate/friend said he was "having a nervous breakdown". Some fixation on the county sheriff, apparently.

Thank you #3 for those comments. Officers cannot know what awaits them behind a closed door. We use available information, our senses, and our training to assess and manage the risk, making the best decision we can; then go in. Sometimes, as here, it goes from zero to suck in the blink of an eye.
I´ve just been sick over the loss of this officer, father, and husband. It´s just gut-wrenching.

LEMONT, Ill. - Chicago-area Democrats cast their ballots on Tuesday in a nationally watched congressional primary election that could signal whether the anti-Trump sentiment that has galvanized the party´s base could also sweep moderate lawmakers out of office. U.S. Representative Dan Lipinski is facing a stiff challenge from businesswoman Marie Newman, who says the incumbent´s socially conservative views are out of touch with the district that first elected him in 2004. Lipinski, who opposes abortion and gay marriage, says Democrats need to avoid ideological litmus tests if they want to win back the working-class voters who supported Republican Donald Trump

You must always check the date on news stories popping up on Facebook. It’s embarrassing to register shock — James Garner dead? Oh no! — only to be informed that he passed away in 2014. So a week ago, when I noticed a CNN report headlined “Nation of Islam leader Farrakhan delivers anti-Semitic speech,” the first thing I did was see whether he delivered the speech in 2012 or 2002. I mean, talk about an evergreen headline, right? Feb. 25, 2018. Nation of Islam Saviours’ Day. In Chicago. Prompting me to then wonder if the local papers covered it. Nope.

WASHINGTON — Bernie Sanders is back in the Senate minority. Hillary Clinton is selling books and playing with grandchildren. And the Democratic Party is still navigating the fallout from their bitter 2016 presidential nominating fight. The latest reminder came this week as party leaders failed to agree on how to reduce the influence of so-called "superdelegates" in picking Democrats´ next White House nominee. That class of party leaders — Democratic National Committee members, elected officials and others — overwhelmingly favored Clinton two years ago, inflaming Sanders backers who accused Democratic power players of stacking the deck. However, not all writers in the genre look to the future for their ideas -- plenty are obsessed with moving backwards, from liberty back to tyranny. "The tendency of people to move to cities, either out of desire or perceived necessity, creates a great opportunity. Discussing cities is like talking about the knots in a net: they’re crucial, but they’re only one part of the larger story of the net and what it’s supposed to do. It makes little sense to talk about knots in isolation when it’s the net that matters. Cities are part of the system we’ve invented to keep people alive on Earth. People tend to like cities, and have been congregating in them ever since the invention of agriculture, 10,000 or so years ago. That’s why we call it civilisation. This origin story underlines how agriculture made cities possible, by providing

A couple years ago, salmon passed tuna as the most popular fish in the United States. Our doctors have told us to eat more of it; our fitness and diet regimens have put it in heavy menu rotation. Here are the facts about America’s favorite fish that you should know but perhaps wish you didn’t. • Large-scale salmon farms in the United States, Canada, Scotland, Norway and Chile have
