2017: The year angry populists rose
to the top — and fell on their faces

Washington Examiner [DC], by Editorial

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 1/1/2018 6:01:17 AM

Among the nearly 250 years of American politics, 2017 will stand out, along with 1829 (when Andrew Jackson was sworn in), as a moment when populists didn’t merely rattle the political establishment, but actually won a national election and gained real political power. And 2017 will also stand as a year in which the populists most proximate to political power fell flat on their faces. The problem isn’t populism per se. The problem is that much of the populism accompanying (and also powering) Donald Trump’s rise has been purely negative — vacuous populism whose beginning, middle, and end is inchoate anger

His definition of "vacuous populism" is rather odd. He uses people like Roy Moore and Yiannopoulos - popular speakers and idealists as examples? Boy, that dropping your line down a very narrow well expecting to catch a whale. Trump might be a nationalistic idealist- one who love his country above all others and has ideas that will make that country greater. But, considering the vast (95%) media hatred spewed forth on President Trump, I doubt you could call him a "Vacuous Populist". We voters, "re-defined by all the Liberal Greats as "Deplorables" seemed to agree with President trump. So, that makes him popular with us, as as it turned out, we were a vast majority (except in leftist enclaves like California´s two raging socialist cities packed with leftists and illegals). That hardly makes him or us "vacuous", though. I guess the writers main problem is, his dying brand of America Hate is powerless to stop America Love. So, "Ed" has to rail against it and offer absolutely nothing to make his brand of vacuous socialism more digestible to more voters.

Bull !

Our Feral Government has been weaponized against us. The awsome powers of the IRS used to strangle the Tea Party in it´s cradle in an election year. The State Dept is run by a Raging, drunken Kleptocrat and America´s safety and freedom is being sold piecemeal. Wires are being tapped. The President is a Jihadi. The economy sucks and we have "EMPTY POPULISM" driven only by mindless hate ?

You, Sir, can kiss my highly privileged white posterior.

...and peddle this Leftist Lunacy to those who never lived through it or, more likely, to those who were a part of it and benefited from this era of State Sponsored Criminality.

Build that wall, enforce laws of the land (put her in jail), there is no MANMADE global warming, feds are too big and outside of the lines delineated by the charter given to the federal government by the CITIZENS, respect the 4th Amendment, respect the 2nd Amendment, respect the 1st Amendment, stop penalizing US companies that do no export AMERICAN jobs that power the AMERICAN economy. That sounds pretty positive to almost all flyover country TAXPAYING American CITIZENS.

What is not uplifting about that positive message? Please direct your questions to our representative - PRESIDENT DONALD JOHN TRUMP.

Reality - It is VERY hard for populists to take any power from the government that is ensconced to protect it. It takes a person of unusual ability and focus. And, there are not many Donald Trumps running around.

“Populism is a political approach that seeks to disrupt the existing social order by solidifying and mobilizing the animosity of the "commoner" or "the people" against "privileged elites" and the “establishment"

#3 Blue, "Our Feral Government has been weaponized against us."

Several hundred agencies and thousands of sub-committees devised to protect US have become mechanisms to control US.

EPA, FEC, NEA, DOE, FBI, CIA, FDA, DEA, IRS, to name just a few.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” Lord Acton

As I watched President Trump´s campaign unfold with thousands at his campaign stops, it became obvious that Patriotic Americans and constitutionalists were fed up. President Trump is giving freedom back to the people as is the intent of the US Constitution. It is going to be a long and arduous road, but I truly believe that Our President not only has the will but also the stamina to turn our government back to US. I´m waiting for him to push "term limits."

God Bless America and keep OUR President safe!

The only successful populist is the one who had a national media soapbox and held nothing back in continually attacking his political enemies and the enemies of the United States. PDT has survived by the very Twitter feed that every talking twit on TV predicted would lead to his downfall.

The Tea Party never got to a microphone before they were tarred and feathered as racist, mouth-breathing troglodytes. And when they did talk, it was far too milquetoast.

You cannot survive a political street fight abiding the Marcus of Queensbury Rules. You have to be out there and kick your enemy when they are down at every turn. And they are perpetually down, because they are universally wrong about everything. They are universally wrong about everything, because they follow a Marxist ideological playbook that they know will destroy our country, because it has never succeeded in practice anywhere in the world at any time.

When did the Washington Examiner turn NeverTrump? Did this guy stop to think that maybe populists are angry because he and the rest of the media, along with DC have ignored the will of the MAJORITY for decades now?

Being ignored like that tends to put people off and make them angry. Rightfully so too.

In one of their brave bursts of rage at the police state they live in, Democrats are now up in arms about voter suppression. They compare it to the days before the Civil Rights Acts and the civil rights movement. Nonwhites in the South were kept from the ballot by heavy poll taxes, tests laden with arcane bits of knowledge, or the threat or reality of actual violence. Those were cases of people who were longing to vote, but deprived of the franchise by malice aforethought. Today, things are about as different as you can imagine. Today, the supposed problem

More Americans are satisfied with the country’s direction than at any point during the Obama presidency, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The survey found that 38 percent of the population is content with the way things are going — the highest rate since 39 percent of the country reported they were satisfied in September of 2005. The satisfaction rate, which Gallup began tracking in 1979, is also back in line with the historical average of 37 percent. And it’s the first time since 2005 that Gallup has recorded consecutive months with satisfaction above 35 percent. Last month, 37

As several cities continue their suit against oil companies, The People of the State of California v. BP, Judge William Alsup has boiled the case down to its pivotal question. We sent the judge, and posted online, a 24-page document that answers his question. Decades of commercial mountaineering have turned Mount Everest into the world´s highest rubbish dump as an increasing number of big-spending climbers pay little attention to the ugly footprint they leave behind. Fluorescent tents, discarded climbing equipment, empty gas canisters and even human excrement litter the well-trodden route to the summit of the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) peak. "It is disgusting, an eyesore," Pemba Dorje Sherpa, who has summited Everest 18 times, told AFP. "The mountain is carrying tonnes of waste." It was an extraordinary sight—as the queen and Meghan Markle sat on chairs watching a performance by a group of schoolchildren on Thursday, Meghan leant over and whispered something in her grandmother-in-law’s ear, and the monarch chuckled. Her Majesty then made a canoeing action, in friendly imitation of the kids’ performance, and laughed again. The queen has a fairly simple policy on public emotion which is to not show it, ever, and this is not because she is some unthinking adherent to the principle of the stiff upper lip, but just because it makes life simpler, and avoids people being upset

In recent remarks to the General Assembly, Haley first condemned the anti-Israel faction of the bunch for using the global body for politics, not peace promotion. Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,
