Hollywood tries to save the Earth, but
moviegoers aren’t buying eco-messages anymore

Washington Times, by Christian Toto

Climate change got its close-up in 2017. A gaggle of films either name-checked Al Gore’s biggest fear or built their narratives around it. The timing, in theory, couldn’t be better for Hollywood bean counters: Three major hurricanes. Massive fires in the West. Record-setting chills. Media reports routinely connected the disasters with a warming planet. Yet audiences stayed away from films influenced by eco-concerns. Far, far away. Think “Blade Runner 2049,” “Geostorm,” “Downsizing,” “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” and “mother!” They all flopped, some in spectacular fashion. Mr. Gore’s sequel to his documentary smash “An Inconvenient Truth” paid the most attention to climate change,

I´m very glad these kinds of message films royally tank at the box office. I would be happier if they weren´t distributed to our government indoctrination centers we used to call "school". That´s where the propaganda is most effective. As a retired teacher, I have seen an awful lot of Hollywood junk in the classrooms, that lost big money at the theaters.

When my kids were in public school, they showed Al Bores first film in classes as required viewing. I was livid. When they came home I went over points with them about the lies. Young kids were scared and worried about the earth and their future because of forcing this nonsense on them. There are so many disasters he "declared" that would of happened by now, and Ted Danson too, that the media has just ignored. Ridiculous stuff.

They call them stars and think that people care what they think. We don´t. They don´t walk the talk. They own multiple SUV´s and private jets. They fly to EU for dinner. They spout the liberal Socialist line as they line their pockets with money. Their movies are boring; their stars are old. It´s time for a change.

IMHO the problem is that people are sick and tired of being told what to think and what to do. I don´t see Algore doing any of the things that he says we should be doing. Using less electricity, less oil, less use of natural resources, less of everything. Algore uses enough power, oil, light, heat, gasoline and jet fuel to supply 100 people for a year. He is a hypocrite and everyone knows it.

"It All Depends on What Oprah Does": Why Bernie

Vanity Fair, by Chris Smith    Original Article

The Oprah-for-president endorsements began rolling in even before Oprah Winfrey had finished her rousing Golden Globes speech. Hollywood Democrats loved the idea (Meryl Streep: “I want her to run”). Elected Democrats cheered (Congresswoman Jackie Speier: “Run, Oprah, run!”). Campaign operative Democrats swooned (“Call me,” tweeted the Iowa state director of Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election effort). One key group, however, isn’t buying the hype: actual democratic Democrats, the mostly young, grassroots insurgents who propelled Bernie Sanders in his surprisingly strong 2016 primary bid. Their rejection of Oprah is a preview of the intramural battle that’s beginning to rage again between the pragmatic

Hillary Clinton, the first woman who had a real shot at the presidency, has finally set off a national awakening among women. The only catch? She did it by losing. In the year since a stoic Mrs. Clinton watched as Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president, a fervor has swept the country, prompting women’s marches, a record number of female candidates running for office and an outcry about sexual assault at all levels of society. Even those women who disliked Hillary-the-candidate or who backed her opponent Senator Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary now credit the indignities and

Why would my 22-year-old brother be calling so early on a Saturday morning? I’d ignored the first call. But the second time the phone rang, I picked it up. He was panicking, his voice trembling uncharacteristically: He’d just received the emergency alert warning of a ballistic missile that was heading for Hawaii, where I’m from, and where he and my family still live. “THIS IS NOT A DRILL,” the alert read. My brother was alone, and had no idea what to do or where to go. And he wouldn’t have had much time to figure out a game plan—some estimates

This just in from what was once the best state in the Union: Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, where nearly one out of five residents is poor. That’s according to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income. Given robust job growth and the prosperity generated by several industries, it’s worth asking why California has fallen behind, especially when the state’s per-capita GDP increased approximately twice as

It seems that no national holiday is exempt from the media’s need for political controversy. This Monday, on what should be a day for Americans to put aside politics and come together to honor the legacy of an extraordinary American, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the media has decided instead to seize upon it as yet another opportunity to further sow the division and partisan polarization already plaguing our country. The New Yorker magazine decided to use Dr. King to touch on the continuing raw nerve that is NFL’s national anthem protests, with its cover depicting Dr. King kneeling alongside Colin Kaepernick

Instead of railing against “s---hole countries,” President Trump probably should have stuck with the approach he took last year while discussing the Muslim countries that are flooding the U.S. with terrorists. “We have to stop this until we can figure out what the hell is going on.” The problem, of course, is that this torrent of immigration from the Third World includes a wildly disproportionate number of terrorists, drug dealers, gangbangers and illiterate non-English-speaking beggars who are angrily demanding handouts. No one can deny that. Let’s talk about their crime first, then welfare. Just before Christmas, the Justice Department released statistics on the

A Civil Defense employee is set to be retrained after a shocking blunder on Saturday morning, when a mistaken alert warning of an inbound ballistic missile sent thousands fleeing for shelter. Lots of the news from sub-Saharan Africa is about war, famine, poverty or political upheaval. So it’s understandable if many Americans think most Africans who immigrate to the United States are poorly educated and desperate. Research tells another story. While many are refugees, large numbers are beneficiaries of the diversity-visa program aimed at boosting immigration from underrepresented nations. And on average, African immigrants are better educated than people born in the U.S. or the immigrant population as a whole.
