New Year’s Eve in Times Square
sounds like a urine-soaked hell

New York Post, by Doree Lewak

Standing on your feet for hours during the freezing cold, not having a single sip of water because there’s no restroom to relieve yourself, and being crushed on all sides by strangers sounds hellish — but some 2 million people do it willingly every year. So it goes in Times Square in the hours before the ball drops at midnight on Dec. 31. This year’s forecast calls for temperatures in the teens, as well as a ground cover of snow left over from days before. And Brian Alvarado, 18, plans to be right in the thick of it for the fifth

I´ll stay in my warm home, thank you. I don´t like parties, especially New Years.

When my grandson was 10, I asked him if he stayed up to watch the ball drop.

Nah. I´ve stayed up before and seen it, and let me tell´ya, it´s nothing special. We watched it on the news this morning, instead.

He´d already figured it out by the age of 10.

It will be 11 degrees here in Virginia tonight. DH and I will have a quiet dinner and be in bed by 9pm.

I lived in NYC part time for many years and never even considered the idea of going to Times Square on New Years. Same for the Macy’s parade. Don’t like crowds, especially in NYC. Don’t like the cold. No brainer.

Concur, #2. Problem is, many people never reach the age of ten.

I´ll sit here by the fireplace with the dog and most likely will be asleep long before the ball drops.

I would not go to Times Square to watch the ball descend to the ground which I can watch on TV with my jammies on, the fireplace glowing and a cup of hot chocolate to sip.
However, I´ll probably be in bed by then.
I´m old, but not stupid.
Did I mention that every last one of the Times Square attendees are nuts?..... gathering in the frigid temps just to watch a dang ball.

Happy New Year friends!!

Don’t be fooled by what you see on TV. Native New Yorkers wouldn’t be caught dead there. I once took my kids to the Thanksgiving Day parade. People staked out their positions early and they wouldn’t allow my kids to stand in front where they could see. Also, all of the nearby businesses locked up their bathrooms. They begged me to take them home and I was happy to comply.

I never have understood the need for people to go out on New Years. They spend $50+/person at the door for $2 worth of party favors, a silly hat, a complementary glass of cheap sparkling wine (can´t even call it champagne), and cheez whiz on crackers laughingly call hors d´oeurves. Usually a cash bar for those who want something actually drinkable. Then you have to deal with a bunch of people with no concept of moderation when it comes to alcohol, both in the venue and then again on the road home. If you are lucky there is a mediocre cover band, but usually it´s a DJ with a taste in music that is geared toward your average 15 year old. Once again, the wife and I will pass.

The allure is simply just to say that "you (I)was/were there". What I find shocking is that the mayor does not provide public bathroom facilities to the revelers that have been a landmark for generations on New Year´s Eve. DeBlasio is entrusted with the safety, health and welfare of the NYC citizens and visitors. This is a tradition that has gone on for decades, for better or worse, but it is still a tradition. Shouldn´t the mayor make sure that it goes smoothly for all involved. Isn´t that his primary responsibility? There is no excuse and worse is that retailers, restaurants and bodegas have to close out of fear for their/it safety and property. Giuliani we miss you.

It has been nearly a month since Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the most sweeping overhaul of the tax code since the 1980s. Of the 185-page bill’s many provisions, perhaps the most consequential is a reduction in the federal corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. Among the tax bill’s leading opponents was Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who was scathing in her denunciation of what she called the “GOP Tax Scam.” Shortly before the final vote, she delivered a blistering speech on the Senate floor. “Today is

Democrats are threatening to shut down the federal government, refusing to pass a spending bill unless it contains a path to legal status for the so-called “Dreamers” protected under President Obama’s DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program. Are the Democrats really concerned with the status of these young people brought to the U.S. illegally as children, or with reforming our broken immigration system? No. They are trying to score political points. Let’s review: Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., recently went to a closed-door meeting at the White House to push his immigration plan. In the era of President Donald Trump, Democrats think presidents should be impeached over policy differences. In Trump´s case, the Democrats accuse him of winning the election by "colluding" with Russia to win. After nearly a year of investigations, there does not appear to be any evidence. Yet many Democrats have already called for impeachment. In truth, Democrats want this President out because they don´t like him or his policies. One of Trump´s major campaign promises was to build a "wall" to protect our southern border. Never mind that, in 2006, 26 Democratic senators -- including Hillary Clinton, then-Sen. Barack Obama and

Microwaves account for the largest percentage of sales of all types of oven in the EU, with numbers set to reach 135 million by 2020.
