Where´s the California love? Trump is first
president in decades to skip a visit in initial year

Los Angeles Times, by Brian Bennett

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 12/31/2017 5:06:36 AM

President Trump’s love for all things gold apparently doesn’t extend to the Golden State. Trump is about to become the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower 64 years ago to skip a visit to California during his first calendar year in office. And he doesn’t appear to have any plans to take Air Force One to the country’s most populous and economically powerful state before he marks his first full year in office Jan. 20. Even past presidents who, like Trump, didn´t win the state´s electoral votes made it a destination, if only for California’s allure as the Golden State

Why would he want to go to CA and have the Governor snub him? I can just see it now. Pres. Trump just arrived in California; Gov. Brown decided not to meet Air Force 1 or have a meeting with him. Nah, I wouldn´t go either.

Why would PDT go to a state where he is almost universally hated?

Yes, I know that there are a lot of Republicans there, but they are not located in the places where a president would normally visit.

One cannot reasonably assume that President Trump is “universally hated” in a state where there are over 5 million registered Republican voters. Not enough to overcome the Dem majority in our state legislature, but probably far more Trump supporters here than in most of the states where the California-bashers live.

As I recall the Bushes did not hang out here. Our President Reagan did, though. Many here are apparently too young to recall that California was for many, many decades a Republican state.

5 million Repubs out of 39 million.....yes, on one hand that is a lot of people, but they are also almost entirely powerless.

That is roughly one of eight is a Repub. California almost certainly has more Mexican citizens living there than Republicans, and certainly 5 or 6 times as many insane leftist people as Republicans.

That was because, in the past, the state was largely financially stable an continuing that was good for residents, and something you wanted to assure you´d help continue.

Now, the state is a financial basket case, and soon to be bankrupt over pensions and poor management. Who wants to be too close to that?

A lot of CA Republicans have a legitimate bone to pick with Mr Trump over things he did here.
Yes it was in the past, but we are still stuck with the problems he helped create (like Kamilla Harris) that he hasn´t lifted a finger toward trying to help us out of.
So, I can see why he would stay away.

Look, I live here in CA. If I were this POTUS, I wouldn´t visit either. Brown snubs PDT at every turn and then begs money from him when there are fires, etc. Our beautiful state has been hijacked by aliens (space cadet liberals as well as illegal).

An analogy: Crashing your evil step-cousins wedding, trying to sleep at his house (where undoubtedly your bed is made of nails), and most of the rest of your "relatives" are zombies. Feeling welcome and safe, no! CA is a sanctuary state for everyone but PDT, FLOTUS, and conservatives.

He could come to San Diego, we´re about the only big city remaining that has a larger minority conservative population. But then again, PDT, stay safe and avoid the left coast.

The entire west coast has suffered the same with mindless zombie like occupants of population centers outvoting the original residents. He needs to fly into LAX and park the Big Blue Bird where it will cause the most disruption. While still on the plane have a hair expert come work on his hair for a couple of hours. Meet with one or two Republican pols but do not invite Gov Moonbeam. Have lunch delivered. After about 5 hours of totally messing up air traffic at LAX he can then depart without ever getting off AF1

Re #15. Whoa! When using statistics, it’s best to be on solid ground lest one be guilty of disseminating (promoting?) Fake News.

As of February 10, 2017,

Total registered voters: 19,432,609 (72.9%of eligible voters)

Democrats: 8,700,440 - 44.8%

Republicans: 5,027,714 - 25.9%

No Party Preference: 4,762,212 - 24.5%

No Party Preference registrations are very much on the rise.

Best source for statistics on voter registration - including various breakdowns such as by county - is the CA Secretary of State’s office which produces this report at every registration deadline:

I still find those anonymous souls who regularly bash California hiding behind their anonymity. We are not happy with everything happening in our wonderful state, but we are happy enough to stay. We are not stupid. We are coping. We have no idea what paradise(s) you live in, where government is perfect and you are happy with everything. Fine. So let us do the same.

If one really squinted his eyes one might divine some envy in the constant barrage from certain persons.

cont’d—

I drove across our big country for the first time when I was only 18. It took a long time. Much of that time was spent driving straight roads through square flat states that were miles and miles and miles and miles of cornfields. (Did I mention cornfields?) There was no reason for a highway to curve because there were no mountains, nothing to break up that long flat plain. I realized for the first time how very special my home state is.

I love the endless California variety. One person wrote years ago that California was the only state where you could surf and snow ski on the same day. I love the people. Ranting is really not a favorite pastime in California because the weather is so good that unless we’re housebound due to illness, we can get out. Enjoy ourselves. Enjoy our state and all that it has to offer. I love the beautiful flowers. Roses are still blooming in profusion. Citrus trees in yards are full of fruit. We are still getting delicious hothouse California strawberries from well-known growers at bargain prices. Avocados everywhere for 50 cents apiece. As Salon magazine once wrote, take away food from California and you’ll be eating a lot of wheat. And corn.

Life is good here for many of us. Perhaps one of the reasons we are so happy is that we never envy anyone else. We have the best. We don’t mind having to fix our state. But we are puzzled by those of you who almost daily (hourly?) try to hard to drag us down.

So tell us about YOUR paradise(s).

Depending on where he visited a massive protest would likely incur. Whatever city would be forced to beef up security, lots of police overtime and a general mess. California should be happy. A visit just for money and photo ops is Obama´s style, not Trumps.

I remember when Trump supporters were beaten up in San Jose and hundreds of policemen just stood by obeying the Democrat mayor.

President Trump has a beautiful golf club in Palos Verdes (Los Angeles) and a home in Beverly Hills. He will return.

Problem is Governor Moonbeam Brown has a bad attitude and declared California a sanctuary state, where full medicaid/ObamaCare benefits are handed out to any Mexican that just walked over. This generosity caused widespread American homelessness and Hepatitis epidemics due to defecation in the sidewalks. It we elect Democrats again and again.

Last week the Trump administration announced it will allow states to impose a “community engagement” requirement on healthy adults getting Medicaid, the public health insurance program for lower income people. So far, ten states intend to do it, though not welfare-haven New York. To get Medicaid, adults in these states will have to work or look for a job, study for a high school diploma, learn English as a second language, volunteer, get addiction treatment, or take care of a family member. The New York Times dragged out a sanitized version of Hillary Clinton once again, in a lament that she had to expire politically to create an uprising. But people who want to see women advancing in politics should be glad that she lost. Clinton was not a role model, as her model wasn’t available to anyone who hadn’t married a president. A bad politician, she was dependent upon him, and when he turned out to be a chronic seducer and even abuser of women, she was willing to threaten and even destroy his victims to assure his success. The Oprah-for-president endorsements began rolling in even before Oprah Winfrey had finished her rousing Golden Globes speech. Hollywood Democrats loved the idea (Meryl Streep: “I want her to run”). Elected Democrats cheered (Congresswoman Jackie Speier: “Run, Oprah, run!”). Campaign operative Democrats swooned (“Call me,” tweeted the Iowa state director of Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election effort). One key group, however, isn’t buying the hype: actual democratic Democrats, the mostly young, grassroots insurgents who propelled Bernie Sanders in his surprisingly strong 2016 primary bid. This just in from what was once the best state in the Union: Guess which state has the highest poverty rate in the country? Not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia, but California, where nearly one out of five residents is poor. That’s according to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure, which factors in the cost of housing, food, utilities and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income. Given robust job growth and the prosperity generated by several industries, it’s worth asking why California has fallen behind, especially when the state’s per-capita GDP increased approximately twice as

Okay, actions speak louder than words, if you want to begin, just begin that long road back to proving you’re not a racist, you’re not bigoted, support the bipartisan compromise that three Republicans and

WASHINGTON- President Donald Trump relentlessly congratulates himself for the healthy state of the U.S. economy, with its steady growth, low unemployment, busier factories and confident consumers. But in the year since Trump´s inauguration, most analysts tend to agree on this: The economy remains essentially the same sturdy one he inherited from Barack Obama.Growth has picked up, but it´s not yet clear if it can sustain a faster expansion. Hiring and wage growth actually slowed slightly from Obama´s last year in office. Consumers and businesses are much more optimistic, but their spending has yet to move meaningfully higher. "I don´t see any

Ever since Donald Trump entered the political arena, his intelligence has been viciously attacked and his supporters have been labeled as moronic deplorables. In a recent Trump tweet, the president responded to the most recent attack by saying he is a stable genius. The mainstream media never bothered checking evidence of Obama´s intelligence before one historian declared him "the smartest man with the highest IQ ever to be elected to the presidency", even though his academic records were sealed. What these attacks do prove is who the real brains are and who are the dummies: Alan Dershowitz may be for real

A crazed, bug-eyed Cory Booker, junior senator from New Jersey, blasted Department of Homeland Security secretary Kristjen Nielsen during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing yesterday on immigration. Booker became so unhinged in his staged outrage that he repeatedly threatened Nielsen, with clenched fists pointed in her direction. Equal to Booker´s overt violation of Nielsen´s right to be treated without hostility and intimidation was the deranged content of his tirade. Nielsen had stated earlier she did not hear the president say the "s-hole" word at last week´s White House meeting on DACA. Booker went ballistic and accused Nielsen of covering up

From his perch in the Ohio governor’s mansion, Republican John Kasich is keeping a keen eye on President Trump’s every move and showing a willingness — some say eagerness — to hurl rotten tomatoes toward the leader of his party when he gets upset with the act.He has become a go-to anti-Trump source for the media and often doesn’t even wait for the press to call. Instead, he leaps in to pile on after presidential missteps. While insisting he wants Mr. Trump to succeed, Mr. Kasich has pointedly refused to rule out mounting a primary challenge against the president in 2020.

Wednesday on CNN’s “New Day,” Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the network’s chief medical correspondent, proclaimed that based on President Donald Trump’s coronary calcium scores going back to the previous decade, Trump has heart disease. Gupta’s diagnosis came a day after Trump’s doctor, Navy Rear Adm. Dr. Ronny Jackson, offered his assessment of Trump’s health at a White House press briefing. “When you look at the findings you just put up there, Alisyn — this coronary calcium score is a score a lot of cardiologists use to try and be predictive and be proactive,” Gupta said. “And if the number gets up

Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) on Monday threw his support behind former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who is reportedly weighing a Senate run in Utah. Mitt would make a phenomenal addition to the U.S. Senate. I hope he runs. https://t.co/3Vcg6txQmN — Jeb Bush (@JebBush) January 15, 2018 Bush´s endorsement on Twitter comes shortly after Romney criticized President Trump for reportedly describing African nations, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole countries" during a meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform last week.

Three-quarters of the members of a federally chartered board advising the National Park Service abruptly quit Monday night out of frustration that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke had refused to meet with them or convene a single meeting last year. The resignation of nine out of 12 National Park System Advisory Board members leaves the federal government without a functioning body to designate national historic or natural landmarks. It also underscores the extent to which federal advisory bodies have become marginalized under the Trump administration. In May 2017, Zinke suspended all outside committees while his staff reviewed their composition and work. In a

CNN´s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta said Wednesday that he believes tests reveal that President Trump has heart disease. Gupta said dating back to 2009, President Trump started to have "these tests that are actually looking for the presence of calcium in the blood vessels that lead to the heart." "Steadily, up until just this past week when he had it performed again, those numbers have gone up," he said. "When they get to a certain range ... that means he has heart disease." Gupta then talked about his interaction Tuesday with President Trump´s doctor, Navy Rear Adm. Dr.

DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday snapped at Senate Democrats who hounded her repeatedly over whether President Trump said some countries were "s**thole countries" in a meeting last week.Nielsen was testifying at the Senate Judiciary Committee, where several Democrats made a point of asking her about Trump´s reported comment. She said several times that she never heard Trump say those words, but when Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., raised it for the fourth time, Nielsen said enough was enough. "Sir, respectfully, I have answered this," she said. "I´ve been very patient with this line of questioning. I´m here to tell you
