California´s governor has said that deadly wildfires in the winter will be ´the new normal´, as fire crews rushed to contain the fires, with dry desert winds expected to intensify over the weekend. Governor Jerry Brown on Saturday toured Ventura County neighborhoods ravaged by a weeklong wildfire that killed at least one person and destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings. At a news conference, the Democrat said drought and climate change mean California faces a ´new reality´ where lives and property are continually threatened by fire, at a cost of billions of dollars. He added that gusty winds and
Comments: As for me, I am dead tired of liberals and Leftist crazies like Jerry Brown and Barack Obama telling the rest of us what the "new normal" is.
Has it occurred to Jerry Brown that at least some of these wildfires could be prevented by allowing non-tree-huggers to go in there and clear out the dead and diseased trees, maybe create a park or two as firebreaks?
OPEN LETTER TO GOV. MOONBEAM: Climate change is not responsible for everything that goes wrong but the climate change mindset is responsible for some of it, so grow up and get a grip.
Brown- a consummate leftist pol who thrives on mysticism, innuendo, assumption and ´the power of crystals´ to guard his personal model of the universe. With absolutely zero scientific training, this dunce of the ´Weed Farm´ is now going to lead the majority of long suffering Californians down the cherry lane of puffery and wishful thinking. It´s as if Brown thinks people just suddenly "Popped" into existence like Mushroom spoors and have no recollection of 100 years of deadly, life threatening southern California wild fires. Oh, My!
Folks in California really do need a rude awakening. They are now entering their hysterical age.
The fact that modern-day forest management, guided by environmentalist whackos, has turned forests into tinder boxes which exacerbate wildfires and makes them harder to control, has absolutely nothing to do with it.
Sporadic rainfall and droughts have always been a problem for residents of CA. It´s one reason the state was sparsely populated until the 20th century. Fires have been occurring there well before Moonbeam appeared on this planet.
As one of these fires began and it was obvious it was growing in size, I heard a reporter say that "you show check with your local ordinances before you clear away the brush and foilage around your house." That says all you need to know.
It´s snowing in the South, so Global warming. It´s raining in the North West, so Global warming. The ice caps are growing, so Global warming. Forest fires,Global warming. Hurricanes, Global warming. Trump beating Hillary, global warming or racism. Everything that doesn´t go the liberal way is either global warming or racism, with a little misogyny and homophobia thrown in!
Moonbeam and the tree-hugging Communists rely on the left-stream media to fail to report easily verifiable historical facts that show that CA has had a long history of drought and flood cycles. https://civileats.com/2014/02/05/a-history-of-drought-in-california-learning-from-the-past-looking-to-the-future/ But California has often endured water scarcity throughout its history, and each occasion has brought its own challenges. Out of those challenges have come valuable lessons, and as the current dry spell becomes more severe it is worth remembering— and learning from—the state’s long history of unpredictable weather fluctuations.
The acclaimed UCLA historian Norris Hundley cautioned that, “It is a mistake…to think of California in terms of averages and regular cycles of precipitation.” Settlers’ accounts of the area are laden with odd conclusions based on the extreme conditions present at the time of observation. For example: a dry Sonoma was declared entirely unsuitable for agriculture in 1841. The Sacramento Valley was written off as “a barren wasteland.” Much of the Central Valley was just a great “inland sea” during the torrential floods of 1861-1862, when Sacramento could be traversed only by canoe, then drought-stricken two years later in 1864.
By the early 1920s, those California farmers who did irrigate relied mostly on groundwater and flowing river sources, along with some smaller reservoirs, which sustained them just enough through the dry years. The decimation wrought by the 1924 drought encouraged more widespread interest in irrigation systems, along with investment in bonds for larger systems to store water and transport it to where it was needed.
Was a Firefighter/EMT in SoCal for 30 years (65-95) and I can tell anyone who cares to listen that these current events are NOT anything new. One can go back as far as they wish into the news archives and they will see that the Santa Ana winds is a long known and understood seasonal event due to the seasonal weather and topography. Every year we knew what October through January portended in the way of catastrophic fires., and we were never surprised when they occurred.
This idea that the weather can be controlled by making an offering or sacrifice to a cult has been around since very early times. That such superstitions are still common today speaks to the poverty of our educational system.
Controlled burns when the wind isn’t hurricane force would seem to be less costly than fighting fire during the Santa Ana winds. I know it would hurt liberal sensibility to actually cause smoke and burn that beautiful sagebrush. Presently one needs a license to cut down a dead sapling on your own property.
I think more of these fires have been set by California malcontents and terrorists Jerry Brown and his ilk have let in the country, all of which have nothing to do with global warming, or cooling, or change, or whatever the latest name re-invention of the left to cover for the last exposure of their lies and failure.
Most of what is burning is State and Federal Land...Private owners would have mitigated the risks, for insurance/Liability cost control if nothing else. On the "plus" side, at least they won´t have to worry about these areas burning next year.
Those fires have been happening for thousands of years. People have now built expensive homes and buildings in harm´s way. It´s why we now have so much hysterical coverage. If They are not going to mitigate the potential for these fires (clear the brush, firebreaks, etc.) then it´s going to get difficult and expensive to buy insurance there.
Jerry Brown is the new normal for California politicians. Maybe if they put in a high capacity water system across these areas instead of that super train, they could supply water to the dry areas during this season. But no, that makes too much sense.
I was in basic training in SD in the early 50s and we were asked to volunteer to go fight fires in the hills so this was going on then and no fool claimed it was global warming or climate change that caused it. They knew very well it was undergrowth and "natural" habitat that provided the fuel. In other parts of the country today there are controlled burns to mitigate these disasters, but those areas are not controlled by liberal democrats.
The drought-busting rains last winter/spring had some predictable consequences, like an explosion of insects and an over-abundance of brush growth. Every fall the brush dries and becomes fuel for fire, and more brush almost always gives us more (and worse) wildfires.
This is due to last year´s El Niño event, not to "Climate Change". Moonbeam´s statement is laden with political opportunism and light on science.
I live up in what is called the "north state" in Butte County. I just received an e-mail from "Californians for TRUMP"..
It was a request to support the Republican candidate for Governor, Travis Allen.
It´s an awesome letter detailing all of the bad things going on in our once-golden state (sanctuary state, media liars, left-wing antics) and it asks to google "Travis Allen´s voting record"..he has high ratings from the NRA, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and Planned Parenthood gives him a ZERO! All the reason to vote Republican and oust those lefties from Sacramento!!! Plus he´s a huge TRUMP SUPPORTER. He asks for a "grassroots movement" and I am all in for that!
We must Make California Golden Again!!!

New normal is simply liberal code for: we ain´t gonna fix it, cause we ain´t bothered by it.
This hsa been building for decades since Liberal Californians adopted the Gaia approach of man is evil. Nature is better without man.
So get your insurance money and move out of California. Your ´duly elected officials´ don´t give a damn about you and won´t fix the problem because of their religion. They´d rather all the evil humans burned than were protected. The only saving grace will be if the illegal immigrants moving in cut down the brush and cut fire breaks even if it IS illegal by California law. They´re a protected class, after all.
It couldn´t be that some of these fires are being set because he refuses to allow the LEO´s to clear out the illegals in his state? Illegals who are setting some of these fires lately? Not to mention killing innocent citizens. Nah, better for him to blame global warming, not his own daffy and disastrous policies.
Is this like the ´new normal´ that Obama spoke about regarding jobs? The left never fixes anything. Why? Because they don´t care about anyone other than themselves. All they want is power, influence, and wealth. They don´t govern. They rule. Their policies are solely designed to make you dependent on them. They only care about climate change as a mechanism to make you more subservient and dependent, and them more powerful and wealthy.
1. periods of intense drought followed by 2. periods of intense rain followed by 3. stupendous growth of new plants from seed followed by 4. stupendous growth of rat population fed by those plants followed by 5. plague that kills off all the people followed by 6. wildfires that burn off all the plants and the things of man 7. a return to the normal conditions found in a desert
Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson added her name to a growing list of Democratic lawmakers who say they are fed up with President Trump and will boycott his State of the Union address at the end of the month. (snip) “For the first time since I began serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, I will not be attending the president’s State of the Union address,” Wilson said in a statement late Sunday. “I have no doubts that instead of delivering a message of inclusivity and an agenda that benefits all Americans, President Trump’s address will be full of innuendo, empty
The CEO of popular home rental app AirBnB has promised to invest $100,000 in advertising for rentals available in Kenya, Ghana, and Haiti which have reportedly been referred to as “shithole countries” by President Trump. Fortune.com reports that AirBnB has promised to spend $100,000 to advertising AirBnB rental locations in countries such as Kenya, Ghana, and Haiti after a recent report claimed that President Trump referred to some of those countries as “shitholes.” There has been much debate over whether or not President Trump did, in fact, make these comments, but AirBnB has decided to defend countries that they feel may
Natalie Maines, lead singer of the “Dixie Chicks” musical group took to Instagram Sunday to mock President Donald Trump’s age and accuse him of senility. Maines posted a photo of Trump of Trump awkwardly attempting to hold hands with world leaders, which was widely ridiculed by leftwing media in 2017. Next to the photo, Maines posted her sarcastic commentary on Trump: “Listen, I think it’s unbelievable how people are badmouthing the President! It’s unacceptable! This is our President! How dare you make fun of the mentally ill and elderly? Not to mention, he’s the President of our United States Of
Two new polls show President Donald Trump’s rising support among black voters, highlighting his political gains from pushing employers to hire Americans instead of lower-wage migrants. The growing support from blacks — despite furious Democratic claims of racism — could become a shocking political validation in November when Trump will face millions of upper-income Democratic voters who are angry at his “Buy American, Hire American” policies. Among black men, Trump’s “2017 average approval rating significantly exceeds his 2016 vote share,” admitted a January 11 article in the Atlantic by author Ronald Brownstein. “23 percent of black men approved of Trump’s
Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., joined Breitbart News Sunday on the eve of her uncle’s namesake holiday, hitting back at racism accusations against President Donald Trump and levying her own complaints against ultra-liberal Facebook. “I agree that President Trump is not a racist. He has done so much,” King told host and Breitbart News Washington Political Editor Matthew Boyle. “Just now … [Trump signed] the bill that was sponsored by Congressman John Lewis making the Martin Luther King Jr. historic site in Atlanta a national park — the first park to be named after an
Sicily has borne much of the brunt of the large wave of migrants coming into Italy. But despite this, the mayor of Palermo has declared his love for migrants saying that the future of Italy is “Google and Ali the immigrant”. Mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando declared his love for newly arrived migrants from Africa, most of them coming into the country illegally claiming to be asylum seekers, in a largely pro-migrant article published by French centre-left newspaper Libération. “If you ask me how many immigrants there are in Palermo, I do not answer 60, 70, or 80,000. Anyone who
Twitter has sprung a leak. In several exclusive interviews with Breitbart, former employees of the company reveal a company dependent on celebrities, hostile to free speech, and silently fuming at President Trump’s continued dominance on the platform. It corroborates the recent Project Veritas exposé of a platform that is hopelessly biased and committed to censoring non-progressive voices. Our first source, who, like the others, wishes to remain anonymous, described how the company rapidly abandoned its commitment to free speech after former CEO Dick Costolo was replaced by Jack Dorsey, who the source described as “the definition of a social justice
As President Trump´s many critics melt down over his use of the word "shithole" to describe Haiti and some African countries, not everyone is distracted by the president´s poor word choice. While some CNN correspondents were quick to call Trump a racist, some Fox News personalities were more willing to consider the truth behind the president´s controversial statement. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” the Washington Post quoted the president as saying Thursday during a White House meeting on immigration reform. The president reportedly asked why the United States doesn´t take more people from
Nancy Pelosi has just returned to Washington, and she brought her bizarre behavior back with her. As the House Minority Leader returned to her weekly press conference, she was seen repeating words, having trouble saying “Martin Luther King” and slurring “prescription drugs.” Talking about how Democrats used Rev. Martin Luther King’s legacy to push socialized medicine, Pelosi had trouble speaking. She said Democrat protests were “inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King,” tripping over the words. Pelosi retreated to her notes as she appeared to get confused about King’s message. She said she was “inspired by Dr. King’s call for fairness...
When a "White Racism" class meets Tuesday at Florida Gulf Coast University, at least two campus police officers will be on guard as a precaution. Today marks the start of the spring semester at FGCU, and Tuesday will be the first time the class meets. The course has caused controversy due to its name and garnered national media attention. "We have prepared for any possible distractions related to Tuesday´s first class of the White Racism course, but we are expecting normal campus civility as our students engage in this and other courses at the spring semester´s start," Susan Evans, FGCU´s
The populist Danish People’s Party (DF) has suggested the government consider a mandatory curfew for under 18s in migrant ghetto areas in order to prevent disorder and delinquency. The DF has proposed that all children below the age of 18 living in the ghetto areas should be required to be off the streets no later than 8 pm every night. DF MP Martin Henriksen argued that children should not be allowed outside on their own in areas that were prone to criminality, both for their own safety and to make sure they do not get caught up in criminality themselves,
Left-wing billionaire Tom Steyer, who is leading a campaign for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, plans to hand-deliver 535 copies of Michael Wolff’s new book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, to every voting member of Congress. Steyer told San Francisco Bay Area public radio station KQED: ““We believed when we started this impeachment petition on Oct. 20, we felt every subsequent day would bring information that would bolster our argument that this was a dangerous, unfit president who needed to be removed from office, and from what I can tell, this book makes that case in very bold
Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. Yet they have amassed an extraordinary amount of
You’ve got to feel for Robert Mueller. The man overseeing the special investigation into Russian election meddling is by all accounts a non-partisan straight shooter, the model image of a public-minded civil servant. Drafted to lead politically polarizing investigation, working under the beady eyes of distrustful congressional Republicans, Mueller has striven to keep his team’s conduct as unimpeachable as possible by bringing on some of America’s sharpest legal minds to check his own work and keeping public comments to a minimum. Imagine how Mueller feels, then, to have to answer so frequently for the partisans and incompetents surrounding him. The special counsel’s biggest
Malia Obama, who is studying at Harvard University, has boyfriend! But some black people on Twitter have questioned her choice in men, because Malia´s new homey, Rory Farquharson, is white. (5 tweets) This racism on the part of some in the black community, who are bruddas and sistas to us all, is very sad. Most white people want us to grow together as a community. I just wish everyone of all races felt the same way. Questions for discussion: After years of Obama´s race baiting, President Trump is the first "post-racial" president to follow him. What do you think President Trump
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no
Congressional investigators believe they are barely beginning to answer the questions raised by the text messages between the FBI´s Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. For several reasons: 1) Strzok and Page were more prolific texters than anyone knew. In a statement late Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said FBI investigators have found "over 50,000 texts" in their review of Strzok-Page communications. 2) Even with all those texts, the FBI says it cannot find the couple´s messages between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017 — a critical time in the Trump-Russia affair. It´s probably safe to say there is not a single
Investigators in both House and Senate were stunned late Friday when, receiving a batch of newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they also received notice from the bureau that the FBI "failed to preserve" Strzok-Page messages from December 14, 2016 through May 17, 2017. Given the amount of texting that went on between Strzok and Page, who were having an extramarital affair, that probably meant thousands of missing documents. A number of critical events in the Trump-Russia affair occurred between December 2016 and May 2017, including: Conversations between Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey
The mood on the international conference call at the beginning of this month was somber as Ian Bremmer, president of the political risk consulting firm Eurasia Group, prepared to list off top global dangers in the coming year. Bremmer began with a show-stopping line:"If we had to pick one year for a big unexpected crisis — the geopolitical equivalent of the 2008 financial meltdown — it feels like 2018." The reasons are many, Bremmer cited, but the most prominent causes for global insecurity stem from U.S. President Donald Trump´s move away from global leadership, and China´s eagerness to fill the
New text messages from anti-Trump FBI agents reviewed by investigators reportedly make reference to a "secret society," in what could be the nail in the coffin for special counsel Robert Mueller´s Russia investigation. Investigators have reviewed 50,000 text messages on FBI servers looking for all exchanges between anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page during the 2016 election, Fox News reported. The revelation comes as investigators are seeking the whereabouts of approximately five months´ worth of text messages between Page and Strzok. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy told Fox News on Monday that one
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. This is pure folly. The American people know so, that´s why in a recent survey a majority said keeping the government open
Chuck Schumer is taking his big spending boost for Donald Trump’s border wall off the table. The Senate minority leader, through an aide, informed the White House on Monday that he was retracting the offer he made last week to give Trump well north of the $1.6 billion in wall funding Trump had asked for this year, according to two Democrats. And now they say Trump will simply not get a better deal than that on his signature campaign promise. Schumer “took it off,” said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat. “He called the White House yesterday and said
Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state´s social services programs. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement,
The Senate on Monday was set to hold a successful vote to reopen the federal government, after Senate Democrats agreed to let the bill through even though it doesn´t include immigration language they are seeking. "We will vote today to reopen the government to continue negotiating a global agreement," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the floor. Under the bill up to be called up, the government would be fully funded through Feb. 8, and it would fund the Children´s Health Insurance Program for six years. It would also reopen the government, which has been partially closed since midnight
