MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Frank Luntz, a GOP establishment messaging consultant, was visibly flabbergasted as every single one of his focus group participants in a Birmingham area Vice News-produced panel backed Judge Roy Moore for U.S. Senate. Titled “Why These Alabama Voters Are Sticking By Roy Moore,” Luntz’s Vice News focus group aired on Vice News Tonight on Dec. 8 on HBO. “Are you all Christians here?” Luntz opens the seven-and-a-half-minute long segment. “Yes,” all of the focus group participants, who joined Luntz in a Birmingham area restaurant, replied. “Is Roy Moore a good Christian?” he followed up. “Yes,” one woman replied. “Absolutely,” another said. “Absolutely?”
Comments: A great back and forth with this gutsy group, with Luntz baiting them, goading them, and their holding fast. Men and women. These are not ignorant people and the points they make are excellent. Luntz got far more than he bargained for.
Dr. Luntz, there are no ´good´ Christians. I am an imperfect Christian - that is the underlying theme of Christianity. Because I am a perfect imperfect Christian, I try not to judge others as to their perfections as Christians. Dollar Bill Clinton and his 10 pound bible is an exception to that rule.
It´s almost as if a pro Doug Jones, anti Roy Moore group got together and decided to become active in the election. A very inept group of arrogant elitist yankees.
"Jones holds detestable, anti-Christian positions which probably won´t fly with the people of Alabama. We can´t hide that. We better go full force against Moore in an area sure to touch a majority of voters. Let´s call him a pedophile. Find a few useful idiots to make claims that the guy likes young girls."
"That´s gonna be hard to do."
"Well go back 40 years, or so. Who remembers what anyone else was doing 40 years ago? We´ll paint Moore as a bad Christian. We´ll flood the stories with numerous victims." "How many?" "9 or 10. And, we´ll pay them. Have the fake victims be young enough to make it sleazy, 13 or 14. If the voters don´t fall for it, we´ll compare Moore to Horndog Clinton." "That ought to do the trick. All we have to do is be smarter than those corn pone Alabama bumpkins."
The American people have seen little credible evidence that Roy Moore is what democRATs say he is, but have seen a preponderance of ginned-up, over-the-top, histrionics on the part of democRATs to destroy this man. It has just never smelled right! I think Alabamans have it figured out.
The issue here is quite simple, and it amazes me that it seems to be totally missed by almost everyone. It´s not whether Moore´s behavior, if true, was reprehensible, it´s that it occurred 40 years ago. There is no moral equivalence here at all between him and Franken, Conyers, etc., all of whom continued their behavior right up to the present.
Don´t fall for these false equivalence traps the left always sets.
I remember a statement Billy Grahams´ wife made... just because I am a Christian doesn´t mean I am perfect. I am so tired of these pop ups coming on I have a virus I do NOT have a virus in my computer.
Yeah but, #12, who is going to check the Ethics Committee? How many of them are on the list of those who made payouts to someone they made Sexual Advances on, with our Taxpayer dollars? I think the Ethics committee is worthless. I think the American People should be told the facts and WE will be the Ethics Committee and make the decision who stays and who goes!
Pollsters are supposed to be objective. Luntz is an activist, lefty who is personally offended by his audience´s opinions about Moore. This was supposed to turn out differently. He had pre-supposed there would be at least a few who were anti-Moore and dumb enough to want to toss Moore to the wolves so that Jones can take the seat for the GD Democrats. Alabamans might be country, but, they are not easily led down the lane by Mcconnell shysters like Luntz.
Only two more days and we will know how resolved the Alabama voters really are. I´m afraid to guess on the outcome for fear of jinxing it. But, I sure as H hope it is Moore.
Frank Luntz has been running the Big Con for decades now with his bogus dial-twisting Skinner Boxes.
It´s tempting to call his methodology flawed but I´m not sure it´s even a methodology since participants will almost never choose a neutral or a flatline response and will almost always go for positive/negative reactions simply to prove to the examiner that they are paying attention. In other words, there is no control group.
Luntz is as responsible as anyone for reducing intelligent political debate and rhetoric to Buzzword Bingo in which the candidate hollers out this or that person, group or issue with little or no connective tissue between the shopping list items. Luntz´s dream candidate must have been Barack Obama, who would show up and check off the usuals: minorities, gays, et al and soak up the cheap applause from barking sea lions.
It´s amusing to hear Luntz described as a messaging consultant because messages have a subject, verb and predicate. Luntz wants single-word answers and pretends to be an oracle when he gets them. Sadly, too many politicians believe him.
Thanks so much for posting this! It made my morning. I love these people and I only hope there are many more like them in the heart of America.
I think Roy Moore is an honorable man, I could be wrong, but at this point it´s almost irrelevant. I know I am sick and tired of the democrats and establishment republicans viciously attacking and decapitating anyone who dares to step up and challenge the status quo. It will be worth it just to prove to them that cannot manipulate EVERY election to get the outcome that they want.
“Let’s be real. It was a different world. Forty years ago in Alabama, people could get married at 13 and 14 years old.”
Bingo! What is happening is that modern social standards are being applied to a time and place where those standards were quite different, and it is being done for crass and cynical partisan reasons. Today we can look back at that time and think eww, that´s disgusting, but at the time it was the norm. And as long as it didn´t cross the line into something illegal (and there is no evidence that it did), who are we to judge? It´s like trying to hold me accountable for slavery because my Great-Great-Great-Great Grandparents were slave owners.
If the flawed Christian, Roy Moore, wins in Alabama the not so comedic Al Franken will stay in the senate and the democRATS will have to cook up another scheme to attack President Trump. I want to thank Al Franken for not taking one for the ´team´.
Note to Frank Luntz: Ditch the bad rug and get out into "fly-over" country. Talk to some folks over coffee and donuts in the local mom and pop restaurant/diner/coffee shop. You´ll find the true Americans out there; the ones working hard to preserve our nation´s heart and soul.
I hope you read this article. Ole Luntz got more than he bargained for.
“My grandmother, at 13, was married,” Porter continued. “At 15, [she] had two children and a husband and a job. If Roy Moore was guilty, if he was at the mall hitting on this 14-year-old, 40 years ago in Alabama, there’s a lot of mamas and daddies who would be thrilled that their 14-year-old was getting hit on by a district attorney.”
Rhonda Richardson, a nursing assistant, said she dated older men when she was 16-years-old.
“I dated an older man at 16,” she said. “So we don’t really—“
“How old was he?” Luntz asked.
“Thirty-one,” she responded, the same age group in which Moore was accused of engaging in this various behavior.
Where is the outrage about outsiders meddling in Alabama´s elections? This was a typical democrat "October" surprise. Do not forget, the dems tried did the October surprise stunt to GWB about a DWI thirty years earlier.
However, it is turning out to be SURPRISE to democrats in Congress. The dems in Congress are eating their own. And all without the sacred due process.
If I lived in Alabama, I´d vote for Roy Moore because this whole episode stinks of a Uniparty hit job. Besides, the worst that will happen is that the Senate expels him and the Republican Alabama governor will appoint another Republican to the seat. For me, it is crucial to keep the seat in Republican hands.
What really stinks about this entire thing is the simple fact that Moore has had a very honorable career for all of his adult life. And all of this mess just "happen" to jump up after 40yrs just at a time that Moore came out head of the Republican team. Not long for the vote that will decide who the next senator will be. As I´ve said before, I´d bet a bent nickel that those women have been bought to make these charges. Someone behind this is some dim with lots of money. Someone like a Soros.
Even Frank Luntz fails to understand the people of America and their disgust after eight years of Obama, Holder, Lynch, et al. They want change. Big change. Even if the instruments of change are imperfect, the people want change.
As people age, maturity often provides a different perspective on life and, quite often, for the better. In reflecting on life, it is not unusual for people to look back with regret and even embarrassment for past decisions and actions. Repentant Christians adhere to the words of our Lord spoken to the adulteress on the Mount of Olives, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” … She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” (John 8:1-11)
Number 5 is spot-on. We are comparing allegations about behavior 40 years ago to that of a "man" who has no problem TODAY with killing babies! The choice is obvious - irrelevant of the truth to those 40-year-old accusations.
I´ve read the article and the comments of follow Lucianne bloggers. It´s interesting that we may be seeing a grassroots revolution of middle America, of those who go to work every day and struggle to pay the bills. It appears that we have had it with our overlords and Thump is giving voice to those who´ve been kicked in the teeth both financially and about our beliefs. This time it might take hold and change the direction of this corrupt elite ruling class.
NBC´s Lester Holt is under fire for his "cushy" coverage of North Korea, despite the regime’s long record of cruelty, murder and oppression. The star journalist traveled to the Hermit Kingdom weeks before the Peacock Network will cover the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, and viewers slammed his coverage as being sycophantic, decidedly uncritical and feeding "propaganda." Holt was criticized in particular for saying he was treated “with respect” by the regime, where he reported from a ski slope as seemingly happy North Koreans were enjoying a wintry day. Viewers said the ski scene appeared to have been
Video of what the Russian government claims is merely an “exercise” appears to show a submarine on fire. The video, shot in the Russian fear eastern city of Vladivostok, shows a large fire and thick, black smoke close to several moored Russian Navy submarines. The Russian government says the fire was part of a planned exercise, but the fire and smoke look way too close to the submarines for comfort. (Snip)The video emerged yesterday on Twitter. According to Russia’s Pacific Fleet, the incident was part of “damage control exercises.” The video shows five submarines tied up at Vladivostok, with a
During the late government shutdown, Republicans kept repeating the talking point that the Democrats were damaging American national security by tying up the budget over the status of 800,000 or so illegal aliens covered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The Democrats, for their part, behaved in the manner their party mascot suggests they would. Not only did they endanger national security but they also played politics with the payment for our honorable men and women in uniform (as well as their families who depend on their paychecks). Not cool. At the same time, it is grating
According to the those on the political Left, America has always been a nation of, by, and for immigrants, in terms undefined, unregulated, and unlimited. But inclusive rhetoric is a recent development in U.S. immigration policy, one that stands in stark contrast with our nation’s former longstanding practice of prudent, selective immigration. Progressives seem to forget it was Democrat Ted Kennedy, on the eve of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, who assured an uneasy Congress that “our streets will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually.” Turns out there were 1.8 million immigrants in 2016 alone. That line
Democrats made fools of themselves this weekend by shutting down the government over their call to grant amnesty to border jumpers who live here illegally. President Trump laughed and laughed and laughed. Democrats tanked in the polls. Congress is not done cutting taxes, even after passing a $1.5 trillion tax overhaul last year. The deal struck by Democrats and Republicans on Monday to end a brief government shutdown contains $31 billion in tax cuts. https://t.co/BjtpTjbKkN — NYT Politics (@nytpolitics) January 22, 2018 Chuck Schumer today said no mas. Republicans extracted a price from Democrats for resuming government operations: another $31 billion in tax cuts. Surprise, surprise,
Ya can’t make it up. Here’s the headline in the Washington Post from the Post’s Erik Wemple. Staffers at The Hill press management about the work of John Solomon The story reads, in part: A group of newsroom staffers at The Hill have complained to management about stories written by John Solomon, the publication’s executive vice president of digital video. The complaints were launched in December when Solomon and reporter Alison Spann broke a story under this headline: “Exclusive: Prominent lawyer sought donor cash for two Trump accusers.” The gist of Solomon and Spann’s story: Prominent California lawyer Lisa Bloom
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been measuring the drapes in the Speaker’s office since Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) defeated Republican Roy Moore in the December 12 special Senate election in Alabama. Now, more than nine months before voters go to the polls, the heavily hyped 2018 “Blue Wave” on which the 77-year-old’s dream of Democratic Party restoration rests may have already reached its crest. In order to take back the majority, Democrats need to win 218 of the 435 seats of the House in the November 2018 midterm elections. They currently have 193 seats, and are almost certain
President Trump and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer followed through on the trade commission study from last year showing evidence of dumping in the U.S. market. Samsung anticipated this final outcome and is almost finished with their plans to manufacture washing machines in South Carolina.Washington, DC – U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced today that President Trump has approved recommendations to impose safeguard tariffs on imported large residential washing machines and imported solar cells and modules. USTR made the recommendations to the President based on consultations with the interagency Trade Policy Committee (TPC) in response to findings by the independent,
I ended "Trump the Establishment" with: Never bet against Donald John Trump. I am glad to say I am not alone in this observation.A fellow on Twitter, who uses the handle "On The Right Side of History," has written the Three Rules of the Trumpening. 1. Always trust Trump. 2. Never bet against Trump. 3. Don´t get tired of winning. Why should you read someone on Twitter you never heard of? For the same reason you would read some famous writer at Commentary or National Review, although chances are the famous guy got Trump wrong. (Snip)In a string of 30 tweets, he laid it out.
Within all of the discoveries around the DOJ/FBI “Trump Operation” we are often questioned why former CIA Director John Brennan is not a specific focus. The reason is quite simple… Unlike some of the other conspirators, John Brennan recognized much earlier it would be in his best interests to have an exit plan to get him away from the inherent legal ramifications of the DOJ/FBI operation. Brennan was simply smarter about covering his tracks. Early in our research we pointed this out – May of 2017. Keep in mind, all of the referenced positions and statements come from a position where the larger intelligence
The illegal immigration debate has come to a head once again. Congress remains at an impasse over a temporary spending bill that Senate Democrats refuse to support unless it includes a provision that would allow several hundred thousand illegal aliens to remain in the United States without fear of deportation. It’s a tiresome ploy by the Democrats, abetted by their allies in the media, using deceptive language to paint a false picture that blurs the distinction between legal and illegal, citizen and foreigner, justice and injustice. Enough obfuscation. Here are some of the most pernicious myths of illegal immigration, debunked. The System
There is no one I hate more than someone who tries to tell me whom I hate. For a quarter-century now I’ve made it very clear that most of my hatred—and there’s quite a lot of it, I never run out—is intra-racial. While those who have a death grip on media and education would love to pretend that I sit around all day stewing about blacks, I find myself incapable of mustering nearly the sort of searing animus toward my Negroidal brethren that I consistently feel toward liberal white coastal elites, who have their heads planted so far up their own
Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. Yet they have amassed an extraordinary amount of
You’ve got to feel for Robert Mueller. The man overseeing the special investigation into Russian election meddling is by all accounts a non-partisan straight shooter, the model image of a public-minded civil servant. Drafted to lead politically polarizing investigation, working under the beady eyes of distrustful congressional Republicans, Mueller has striven to keep his team’s conduct as unimpeachable as possible by bringing on some of America’s sharpest legal minds to check his own work and keeping public comments to a minimum. Imagine how Mueller feels, then, to have to answer so frequently for the partisans and incompetents surrounding him. The special counsel’s biggest
Malia Obama, who is studying at Harvard University, has boyfriend! But some black people on Twitter have questioned her choice in men, because Malia´s new homey, Rory Farquharson, is white. (5 tweets) This racism on the part of some in the black community, who are bruddas and sistas to us all, is very sad. Most white people want us to grow together as a community. I just wish everyone of all races felt the same way. Questions for discussion: After years of Obama´s race baiting, President Trump is the first "post-racial" president to follow him. What do you think President Trump
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no
The Daily Caller journalist Chuck Ross has some extremely interesting information released today surrounding former top FBI Counterintelligence Agent Peter Strzok and DOJ/FBI liaison attorney Lisa Page which includes a disclosure by top FBI officials that text messages between Strzok and Page have gone missing. (Snip) According to information relayed to Senator Ron Johnson, the period of time the FBI has “lost” is from December 14th, 2016 to May 17th, 2017, the exact day that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was assigned to lead the Russia collusion probe. As CTH has previously outlined the same “small group” inside the DOJ and FBI,
Investigators in both House and Senate were stunned late Friday when, receiving a batch of newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they also received notice from the bureau that the FBI "failed to preserve" Strzok-Page messages from December 14, 2016 through May 17, 2017. Given the amount of texting that went on between Strzok and Page, who were having an extramarital affair, that probably meant thousands of missing documents. A number of critical events in the Trump-Russia affair occurred between December 2016 and May 2017, including: Conversations between Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey
Congressional investigators believe they are barely beginning to answer the questions raised by the text messages between the FBI´s Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. For several reasons: 1) Strzok and Page were more prolific texters than anyone knew. In a statement late Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said FBI investigators have found "over 50,000 texts" in their review of Strzok-Page communications. 2) Even with all those texts, the FBI says it cannot find the couple´s messages between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017 — a critical time in the Trump-Russia affair. It´s probably safe to say there is not a single
New text messages from anti-Trump FBI agents reviewed by investigators reportedly make reference to a "secret society," in what could be the nail in the coffin for special counsel Robert Mueller´s Russia investigation. Investigators have reviewed 50,000 text messages on FBI servers looking for all exchanges between anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page during the 2016 election, Fox News reported. The revelation comes as investigators are seeking the whereabouts of approximately five months´ worth of text messages between Page and Strzok. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy told Fox News on Monday that one
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. This is pure folly. The American people know so, that´s why in a recent survey a majority said keeping the government open
Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state´s social services programs. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement,
The Senate on Monday was set to hold a successful vote to reopen the federal government, after Senate Democrats agreed to let the bill through even though it doesn´t include immigration language they are seeking. "We will vote today to reopen the government to continue negotiating a global agreement," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the floor. Under the bill up to be called up, the government would be fully funded through Feb. 8, and it would fund the Children´s Health Insurance Program for six years. It would also reopen the government, which has been partially closed since midnight
It has been four months since Megyn Kelly earned the wrath and ire of Jane Fonda for asking the 80-year-old actress about her plastic surgery, and the NBC host is now responding to the backlash. That moment occurred during Kelly´s third episode when she asked the Oscar-winner about what work she had done in the past, which prompted a steely Fonda to stare Kelly down and ask: ´We really want to talk about that now?´ Since then Fonda has complained about the question to a number of outlets, and even mocked Kelly´s question on Today last week during an interview
