Taxpayers Paid $220K to Settle Case
Involving Rep. Alcee Hastings

Roll Call, by Stephanie Akin

Original Article

The Treasury Department paid $220,000 in a previously undisclosed agreement to settle a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment that involved Florida Democrat Alcee L. Hastings, according to documents obtained by Roll Call. Winsome Packer, a former staff member of a congressional commission that promotes international human rights, said in documents that the congressman touched her, made unwanted sexual advances, and threatened her job. At the time, Hastings was the chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, where Packer worked. Hastings has called Packer’s charges “ludicrous” and in documents said he never sexually harassed her. “Until this evening, I had not seen

For those of you who may not know -
Alcee Hastings was a federal district court judge in Florida, charged with taking bribes from drug dealers appearing before him, was acquitted by an OJ jury, was then impeached by the House in a near unanimous vote, removed by the Senate.
He then ran for a House seat, and has lived happily ever after.
The black voters in his district have stuck it to the man.

Alcee Hastings was scum when he was impeached and removed as a Federal Judge. Sadly the Senate didn´t bar him from holding future positions of trust within the Federal Government, and he came back as a rat Congress Critter. Oh, and he is still scum...

OT, but one wonders how many ´commissions´ or ´agencies´ or whatever they could be called one may find in a governmental org chart. And more importantly, how many $$ are wasted on them. AND evidently mores have tightened up if Mr. Hastings could get elected with that background and Mr. Moore is threatened with removal if he wins the election over evidence from 40 years ago.

Some of you misguided young women (the non-misguided ones can ignore me) will resist the obvious fact that you need the romantic advice of a married, 53-year old retired Army officer who identifies as male. Well, judging from that Aziz Ansari story in babe.net, many of you sure need some guidance from someone. And since your fathers apparently went AWOL – or maybe you just didn’t listen – I’ll step in to help. Because I’m a helper. And because since so many of you are so utterly ill-equipped to interact with men, maybe you need a man to mansplain things

Schumer´s shutdown reveals: Democrats

Donald Trump was inaugurated one year ago after promising to make America great again. Throughout the campaign everyone knew what he believed, though it was not clear what his opponents stood for. The Schumer shutdown has revealed the totality of the Democrats’ agenda: animosity and amnesty. When President Trump set out to deliver historic tax cuts for the American people, Democrats sat on their hands, rather than participating in the legislative process. Now they’ve come off the sidelines to actively sabotage the government established to serve the American people. Their stated reason for doing so is even more astounding than the act itself. Choose any measurement, and the result is the same: Democrats are headed for a major victory in the November midterms. The generic ballot tells us voters prefer Democrats to Republicans by a 10-point average. The president’s approval ratings, a historically useful guide to his party’s midterm hopes? The lowest at this point of any in recorded history. Recent special elections? Democrats took a U.S. Senate seat in Alabama for the first time in 30 years and a Wisconsin state Senate seat that had stayed Republican for 17 years. Say, whatever happened to that guy who got stuck with the job of being DNC Chairman last year? You remember him, right… Tom Perez? He’s sort of dropped off the media radar lately. Maybe he’s just busy raising money and gearing up for the midterms. That would make sense, but things aren’t always that simple in the real world. I noticed a press release from the RNC this week which claims that Perez has been holed up in his office quite a bit and DNC insiders are saying that although he campaigned for the position with great gusto, Perez actually

The doors to the Statue of Liberty will reopen Monday — despite the fed shutdown of all non-essential government services. Gov. The Justice Department has given various congressional committees nearly 400 pages of additional text messages between two FBI officials who were removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller´s investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. One of the newly discovered messages, lawmakers said, appeared to indicate that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page knew that charges would not be filed against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as a result of the investigation into her email server -- before Clinton was interviewed by the bureau. The Supreme Court agreed yesterday to hear a challenge to the third iteration of the Trump administration’s travel ban. It had been struck down by lower courts—a Hawaii district court and affirming Ninth Circuit—that seemed to place their hostility to the president above the law, which grants the chief executive clear discretion on such matters relating to immigration and national security. Senate Democrats have blocked a bill to keep the federal government running and fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the next six years. They have, that is, partially shut the government down. They have taken this step not because of any strong objection to provisions of the funding bill but because it omits a provision they want: an amnesty for illegal immigrants who came to our country as minors. Most Republicans, including President Trump, favor this amnesty as well, but the parties have been unable to agree on what other policies, such as restrictions on follow-on immigration from the

It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party.
