Trent Franks resigns from Congress
over talk of surrogate motherhood

Washington Times, by S.A. Miller

The sex-harassment scandals have ended the career of a conservative congressman who says his sin was discussing surrogate motherhood. Rep. Trent Franks, Arizona Republican, announced Thursday that he was resigning from Congress, saying that he didn’t want to go through the way his actions would be distorted and leaked about in the current climate. He said that he had learned that the House Ethics Committee was reviewing complaints about his discussions with two female aides about surrogate motherhood. Rather than suffer through an investigation, he said, he decided to step down. “We are in an unusual moment in history –

He resigned over "discussing surrogate motherhood"?

I admit to being naive and out of touch. Is this a euphemism for something I wasn´t aware of?

The Dems Al Franken didn´t resign over actually groping women. Bill Clinton didn´t resign over raping, or sexually abusing an employee. And this guy is resigning over a discussion? Is this guy related to Flake, or McCain? Or is he a Bush or Corker? This seems ridiculous. There has to be something else, something more along the lines of the Dems.

Here´s an idea: How about if the entire Arizona congressional delegation resigns. I don´t know all of them, but the resignation of the senators and congressmen I do know would surely be an improvement, right?

#3 What would you think if your young beautiful daughter was working for the congressman and he discussed with her the issues of infertility in his marriage. He wants to have a child, but his wife cannot make it happen. We won´t get into the options of how that might come to be, but I´m guessing he had some ideas. Add to that the concern for the young woman´s future career if she should laugh at him or call him a creep.
Does a sitting congressman need to be told that this is inappropriate?!

What if- The congressman is the part of the family that is infertile. He tells his cute young thing in his office, "My wife- she can´t get preggo, so, if you would be willing to help- uh- us- you know---get a baby,. We could do it right here. You know, no messy clinics, just the - well, you know, the "natural" way. We would be ever so grateful. could mean a big promotion, you know." And then he gets to "Try" for several weeks and when nothing happens- "gee! imagine that! It was me all along. Thanks for trying anyway, Trish. You were wonderful, by the way. Now, go get me a nice hot cup of Joe- the way I like it. And be quick about it. And would you send in Cathy. I have something personal I want to talk to her about. Thanks, sweetie."

Yeah- what if? I guess you could call that a "conversation".

House Speaker Paul Ryan urged Mr. Franks to resign.

Wake up folks. Please. The Swamp hates conservatives and hates christian conservatives even more. Mumbles McConnell and Lyin Ryan will do ANYTHING to preserve the Swamps status quo - even if it means replacing republicans with democrats. I mean, just look at Judge Moore.

Come on people. Please. What decent person wants to put these staff and their family through leftist ´examinations´. The current Congress (Regress) and the media are soooo sick. And of course, of the leftist persuasion. Pleease.

I agree that this explanation smells fishy. If this were just a conversation about the Congressman´s family life, among people who work together and know each other, there should be nothing to complain about. I´m thinking he´s taking the easy way out before some real stinkbomb goes off.

Special prosecutors, investigators, and counsels are usually a bad idea. They are admissions that constitutionally mandated institutions don’t work — and can be rescued only by supposed superhuman moralists, who are without the innate biases inherent in human nature. The record from Lawrence Walsh to Ken Starr to Patrick Fitzgerald suggests otherwise. Originally narrow mandates inevitably expand — on the cynical theory that everyone has something embarrassing to hide. Promised “short” timelines and limited budgets are quickly forgotten. Prosecutors search for ever new crimes to justify the expense and public expectations of the special-counsel appointment. Soon the investigators need to
