Before President Trump signed a formal proclamation on the 76th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, one veteran of the Japanese attack broke out in song. Trump said that, following the attack, a "battle cry could be heard by American friends and foes alike: Remember Pearl Harbor." The veteran standing closest to him smiled and began singing the lyrics to the Sammy Kaye song. "Let´s remember Pearl Harbor as we go to meet the foe. Let´s remember Pearl Harbor, as we did the Alamo," he sang. "We will always remember how they died for liberty. Let´s remember Pearl Harbor...

Fifteen Dartmouth College students have spoken out accusing three psychology professors facing sexual misconduct allegations of creating a ´hostile academic environment´ marked by excessive drinking, favoritism and at times inappropriate behavior. Tom the turkey likes to play chicken with traffic. The plucky bird is a common sight at the intersection of Klein and Paradise roads in East Amherst, where he often blocks lanes, pecks at tires and circles cars. While a neighborhood fixture and quirky oddity, his bold behavior has also garnered Tom a reputation as a nuisance. "He´ll just walk up right in front of the cars," said Steve Levy, a resident of the nearby Roxbury Park neighborhood. "He´ll start going right by the tires and quite frankly it´s really kind of dangerous. I´m surprised nobody´s had an accident .

The Latest on the Sen. Bob Menendez bribery trial (all times local): 1:05 p.m. Sen. Bob Menendez´s bribery trial has ended in a mistrial after the jury said it was hopelessly deadlocked on the charges against the Democrat and his co-defendant. Judge William Walls declared the mistrial Thursday. They said Thursday they reviewed the evidence "slowly and thoroughly and in great detail" but remained deadlocked.

Kressa Jean Shepherd, a Ukiah High School junior who dreamed of becoming an artist, died here two days before Halloween. On Oct. 9, she and her family were fleeing the Redwood Valley firestorm when they were trapped by the blaze on the mountain near their home. The fire killed 14-year-old Kai Shepherd and inflicted grievous injury on his parents and 17-year-old sister, Kressa. Kressa had spent what can only be described as three harrowing, mostly unconscious weeks in the burn unit of Shriners Hospitals for Children, before her brain swelled and then stopped.

It all began in Buffalo. The brashness, the swagger, the overwhelming drive to make something of himself. Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood film mogul now cast as a sexual predator, traces the roots of his show business dominance to his arrival at the University of Buffalo campus in the fall of 1969. It didn’t take long for the kid from Flushing, Queens, to make his mark. (snip) He also left his mark on Buffalo’s people. Eugene M. Fahey (now a state Court of Appeals judge) and Dennis E. California´s governor has said that deadly wildfires in the winter will be ´the new normal´, as fire crews rushed to contain the fires, with dry desert winds expected to intensify over the weekend. There are times in life when the institutional ground underneath you begins to crumble — and with it, longstanding attachments. Such is the case for me when it comes to the Republican Party and evangelicalism. I’ve been a part of both for my entire adult life. These days, though, in many important ways they are having harmful effects on our society. The latest example is in Alabama, where Roy Moore, the Republican Senate candidate, stands accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct by nine women, including one who was 14 years old at the time. Short of impeaching President Trump, does anything excite Democrats, the Resistance, and NeverTrumpers like the prospect of the president firing special counsel Robert Mueller? Firing Mueller would, or course, be the quickest way for Trump to get impeached, which might explain a certain air of anticipation in discussions of whether — some prefer to say when -- Trump will sack the prosecutor leading the Trump-Russia investigation. There has been a lot of news and commentary recently interpreting criticism of Mueller by a number of pro-Trump media voices as an effort to encourage Trump to fire Mueller, or lay the groundwork for
