Rumors that the Republican National Committee was built on the site of an ancient moron burial ground gained new credence this week when it confirmed that it was renewing its support for Alabama´s Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore. I shouldn’t joke, because the worst thing about the RNC’s decision isn’t the stupidity — though the stupidity is real, and spectacular — but the moral obscenity. Last month, the RNC and the National Republican Senatorial Committee pulled out of their joint fundraising agreements because Moore had been credibly accused by several women of having preyed upon them when they were teenagers,
The RNC now sees the writing on the wall of a win and wants to be able to take credit for it and possibly ensnare Moore into some sort of one-sided loyalty. Moore should tell them thanks, but no thanks.
The credibility of his accusers is a lot to be desired. How can you convict a person on only accusations and no proof. Nobody would ever run for Congress again if they are disqualified by a Accuser with no evidence...
Oh, way to go, Jonah! What a terribly disguised POS article. Would your rather hand the seat to a Democrat just because some women came up with a really not-so-credible accusation of Moore creeping on them as teens? Think about it, dummy! For crying out loud, what the h is wrong with people these days?
Look, I know about Jonah. I´ve been a fan of his for years. but, this guy now needs to go on a sabbatical or a vacay to get his head on straight. All this one dimensional BS going around and knee jerk politics is getting to him.
If Moore happens to be a bad guy, things can be done to censure him. If real evidence suddenly appeared that clearly demonstrated the guy was as immoral as a Democrat, then something can be done. but, the man is a demonstrable conservative before he is a demonstrable monster! At the very least he can keep the seat warm for a future man or woman to your/our liking. But, for crying out loud, do not pull the plug in the bottom of the boat just because you don´t like the color of it!
So the Democrats can do all this sex garbage x1000 and we have to hand them a crucial victory, over 38 year accusations that have no proof, so that we have the moral high ground?
Jonah was prepared to put the evil worse-than-trump-times-10,000 hr Clinton in the White House.
NO thanks. I will take advice from someone who isn’t icky from sidling up to hr Clinton.
I read a headline today, Another Woman Gives Evidence on Moore or similar. I read the article. It was a card from Moore. They had dated when she was 17 (of course). They kissed like once. He never tried to have sex with her. When she got engaged later he wanted to meet him to make sure he was good enough for her.
This woman cried according to the article as she realized what a monster Moore is after finding that card.
It actually makes him sound like a saint. Seinfeld dated Shoshanna when she was 17 and he was 39. See, the Demons can do it all day long. Vote for Moore. I am over the libs garbage.
Lucianne must be a little embarrassed. Perhaps she didn´t give Jonah the right toys for Christmas, or something. Maybe he has been prescribed the wrong meds lately. Anyway, I hope it will all work out with time and maturity. Is he too old to enter the military?
Journalism 101: When you start out your opinion editorial with a bald faced lie -- "...because Moore had been CREDIBLY accused by several women..." -- you immediately render your argument invalid!!!!
Can someone please explain to me what happened to Jonah?!?!?!? Seriously, he used to be one of the good guys in journalism. He was a good and serious conservative who could express himself in clear and straight-forward ways.
But it´s like Trump Derangement Syndrome has rotted his once genius brain. What a pity...
No, no, no, #19. If Moore is guilty of abuse w/ the 14 yr old then he should not run and should be in jail. I think we all agree on that. If he kissed 17 year old girls when he was 32 and never did anything else the next 38 years, then you cannot say that we are slimy as the Democrats. Furthermore, where is your proof that Moore did the that one awful thing? I was totally against him too until I saw all the holes in the story. I am all for booting out perv Rs. But you have got to have proof before you hang somebody.
Jonah may not realize that the attack on Christian Judge Moore was aimed at President Trump. Maybe he is blinded by the NeverTrump hatred permeating The National Review that Rich Lowry and Jonah Goldberg have ruined. Sad to see. Donald Trump is the best President in my lifetime and we will defend him to the end. Judge Moore is for the ten commmandments and president Trump for Jerusalem as capital of Israel. Wake up young man!
Once more Jo-nah proves his brain is rotting from the inside. A dedicated swamp dweller who would sacrifice his country rather than give any quarter to the President. And supported by our own resident Romneybots. There has been not one shred of proof Roy Moore did anything. Go away Jo-nah. Peddle your nonsense elsewhere.
Moore has run and/or been elected to statewide office four times in the past, yet nobody ever bothered to come forward and make a claim against him until he was running for the U.S. Senate. The whole affair has a really bad stench of political sabotage by the left. As a result, I am inclined to believe Judge Moore over all of the so called accusers. They´ll disappear after the election, whether he wins or loses. We can bet on that.
Give it up Jonah, your hypocrisy is showing again.
One of the problems with the stand that these nevertrumpers and eGOP oppo groups have is that the odds are stacking up real well for at least a couple of them being accused of harassment from years ago. So why should we listen to their cries of woe and denial if it happens? After all, women don´t lie, right?
I just want that Hush Fund payout list released. I am betting there are some surprising names on that list.
So far, all I´ve heard against Moore are Bought and Paid, unproven allegations. I´m tired of hearing sanctimonious guff from the Liberals and RINOs; if they want to press criminal charges, let them. The only charge-worthy individuals I know of are in Hollywood, the MSM and the Leftist side of the aisle in Congress.
It is unbelievable that the author of the truly great book "Liberal Fascism" is now treating the Washington Post as a credible news source, transcribing "credibly accused" from a Leftist smear, and in effect helping the liberal-fascist Left gain a senate seat. What happened, Jonah?
I will try to remember Jonah for 3 things. He was gracious and a delight to talk with on a NR cruise way back, his analysis of the movie "Ground Hog Day" is outstanding, and the book "Liberal Fascism" is a must read.
Today, he must be reading the NYT and it has done something to him.
If 3/4 + of congress is liberal/ unprincipled, and 4/4 of the msm is liberal/pravda, then Jonah is conservative as he calculates his best shot for future employment is not to be the truth teller. There will always be redemption for the scribes after Trump´s realignment, or war. As he and all his conservative-left friends have said to Gary Cooper in "High Noon":"I´m only a piano player."
What a disappointment is the once-honorable and astute Mr. Goldberg. So many conservative characters have been assassinated by the left with impunity, yet until this month, their major players have totally gotten away with not only egregious sexual harassment, but theft, corruption, slander, even rape and murder. Now in a fit of national virtue preening, nobody is safe from groundless accusations, and ´guilty until proven innocent beyond a shadow of a doubt´ seems to be the unwritten law of the land. An ER doc I know once remarked how few rape cases present with any physical findings at all, no DNA, no bruising, no emotional trauma apparent... The counseling nurses can document nothing. Just a claim, not verifiable. And that is right then and there, not 40 years later. How many eye-witness accounts of accidents and crime scenes are loaded with misperceptions? Remember the ´recovered memories´ fad of some years back, where ´victims´ were persuaded of abuse that didn´t happen, and innocent people had not only their reputations and livelihoods ruined, but served hard time? How about the alleged hate crimes, ugly graffiti spray-painted by members of the aggrieved groups themselves? The Duke debacle? This that same lynch mob mentality, and I´m not buying the left´s coordinated hit job on Moore.
President Trump’s inflammatory remarks against immigrants from a host of developing-world nations have sparked outrage amid talks on the fate of Dreamers just as lawmakers from both parties were claiming progress on a hard-fought deal. But supporters of the immigration package say the deeper threat to an agreement is not the president, but the conservatives in both the White House and Congress fighting to kill the deal before it can pick up steam –– an effort they’re calling “the Stephen Miller ambush,” referencing a top White House aide. The leading negotiators on an immigration package — Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)
President Trump dissolved his controversial voter integrity commission Wednesday, giving up on one of key initiatives from the 2016 election. The White House said Mr. Trump didn’t want to fight an endless stream of costly legal battles against voter-rights groups, so he issued an executive order canceling the panel altogether. “Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic information relevant to its inquiry,” the White House said in a statement. “Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed an
President Trump kicked off the new year praising the people of Iran for “acting against” the regime, while accusing former President Barack Obama of helping Tehran fund “terrorism.” The spending on terror and proxy wars is part of what demonstrators are protesting. “The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime. All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their ‘pockets.’ The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!” Trump tweeted early Tuesday. As Trump voices support for the protesters,
Colorado police say ‘multiple deputies’ are down after a shooting outside Denver. “We have multiple officers down,” Douglas County, Colorado, Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Blanchard told The New York Times on Sunday. He described it as an active scene and said the gunman was not in custody. The department’s Twitter account also said multiple deputies were down but said there was no update on their status. It urged people in the area to shelter in place.
For all the squabbling that social media platforms are notorious for, their relevance to the media landscape plays an important role in times of protest. This was evident with Black Lives Matter, among other movements. It’s been evident for the past three days in Iran, where thousands have taken to streets and public squares calling for an end to the hardline conservative regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The question that needs to be asked right now is why traditional mainstream media outlets – grandstanding over their importance in this new, bold era of fact-checking and truth-telling – have largely ignored
Attendees at the Valero Alamo Bowl booed the Stanford University Band during its halftime performance after the bandsmen mocked the border wall, Whataburger, and all things Texan. The performance came during the California university’s bowl game versus Texas Christian University (TCU). TCU responded by defeating the Stanford Cardinals. The Stanford marching band, known for satirical halftime performances, poked fun at Texan’s state pride, the border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, horned frogs (the TCU mascot), and Whataburger (the iconic Texas hamburger chain), KSAT reported. Audience members booed
President Trump sat down with New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt for an interview in West Palm Beach yesterday. Schmidt was low-key and even respectful, while Trump was ebullient. You can read excerpts here. (As always, there is no point in reading any newspaper’s account of the conversation.) Trump was his usual unscripted self–rambling, not very articulate, sometimes humorously self-promoting, generally correct if often imprecise. He talked at length, and with great confidence, about Mueller’s investigation. Here, he knows things are going his way: Let’s just say — I think that Bob Mueller will be fair, and everybody knows that
While most of Hollywood and the media have been lying about the massive tax reform passed by the House and Senate last week, legendary film director Ridley Scott proved that he has a much better grasp of how an economy works than most actors and journalists. He also proved that he is not at all interested in conforming to Hollywood’s obnoxious politics. While out doing publicity for his latest movie, All the Money in the World, the 80-year-old behind such iconic films as Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, The Martian, Thelma and Louise, and Black Rain, was not even asked about
Rose Marie, the wisecracking Sally Rogers of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and a show business lifer who began as a bobbed-hair child star in vaudeville and worked for nearly a century in theater, radio, TV and movies, died Thursday. She was 94. Marie had been resting in bed at her Los Angeles-area home when a caretaker found she had stopped breathing, said family spokesman Harlan Boll. "Heaven just got a whole lot funnier" was the tribute posted atop a photo of Marie on her website. She was a child star of the 1920s and 1930s who endeared herself to
Nearly half of all Americans believe the media fabricate negative stories about President Trump, according to a new survey. Forty-four percent of respondents in the 2017 Poynter Media Trust Survey say the media invent “fake news” to make the president look bad. Of that cohort, 24 percent say negative stories about Mr. Trump are made up “about half of the time”; 14 percent “most of the time”; and 6 percent “all of the time.” Seventy-seven percent are Trump supporters, and 74 percent are Republicans. The survey found that a substantial minority of Americans, 31 percent, believe the media are the
Two months ago, Rep. Adam B. Schiff, who is leading the House Democrats’ inquisition of President Trump, said it “still remains to be seen” whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in its interference in the 2016 election. Then on Dec. 10, the congressman from California went in a different direction. “We do know this,” the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said on CNN, a frequent Schiff host. “The Russians offered help, the campaign accepted help. The Russians gave help and the president made full use of that help, and that is pretty damning, whether
The woman Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee accused of racism is a celebrated photojournalist who helped document human-rights abuses in war-torn Guatemala during the 1980s. Jean-Marie Simon, whose first-class seat on a United Airlines flight was given to Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, lived and worked in Guatemala during the turbulent decade that saw the military seize control of the government in a coup. Hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans were killed or “disappeared” during the conflict. Now a teacher, Ms. Simon, 63, is the author of “Guatemala: Eternal Spring Eternal Tyranny.” A 2012 blog post on Amnesty International said Ms. Simon
Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. Yet they have amassed an extraordinary amount of
It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party. But listen to any number of Republicans and
Malia Obama, who is studying at Harvard University, has boyfriend! But some black people on Twitter have questioned her choice in men, because Malia´s new homey, Rory Farquharson, is white. (5 tweets) This racism on the part of some in the black community, who are bruddas and sistas to us all, is very sad. Most white people want us to grow together as a community. I just wish everyone of all races felt the same way. Questions for discussion: After years of Obama´s race baiting, President Trump is the first "post-racial" president to follow him. What do you think President Trump
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer of New York pinned the government shutdown on President Donald Trump, saying it has become "next to impossible" to negotiate with the White House. In a press availability, Schumer said he and Trump have been close to a deal to fund the government at least once. But, he said the "hard right" in the Republican Party later convinces Trump not to strike a deal with him."[Trump] won´t take yes for an answer," Schumer said. (Tweet) Schumer said that he does not know whether Trump´s apparent waffling on a deal is the work of adviser Stephen Miller, a
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no
The Daily Caller journalist Chuck Ross has some extremely interesting information released today surrounding former top FBI Counterintelligence Agent Peter Strzok and DOJ/FBI liaison attorney Lisa Page which includes a disclosure by top FBI officials that text messages between Strzok and Page have gone missing. (Snip) According to information relayed to Senator Ron Johnson, the period of time the FBI has “lost” is from December 14th, 2016 to May 17th, 2017, the exact day that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was assigned to lead the Russia collusion probe. As CTH has previously outlined the same “small group” inside the DOJ and FBI,
Investigators in both House and Senate were stunned late Friday when, receiving a batch of newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they also received notice from the bureau that the FBI "failed to preserve" Strzok-Page messages from December 14, 2016 through May 17, 2017. Given the amount of texting that went on between Strzok and Page, who were having an extramarital affair, that probably meant thousands of missing documents. A number of critical events in the Trump-Russia affair occurred between December 2016 and May 2017, including: Conversations between Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey
Question: Do you think Donald Trump spends more time thinking about Hillary Clinton than Hillary Clinton spends thinking about Donald Trump? Sure does seem like it. The other day, President Trump was discussing Russia at a press conference with the prime minister of Norway, when he suddenly announced that Clinton “was not for a strong military and Hillary, my opponent, was for windmills, and she was for other types of energy that don’t have the same capacities at this moment certainly.” Yeah, it didn’t make any sense. But he really can’t seem to get past her. Recently while promoting tax
According to Representative Dave Joyce (R-OH14) the House Intelligence Committee will hold a vote on the release of the four-page Nunes memo that reveals systemic corruption within the DOJ and FBI; including the unlawful use of FISA-702(16)(17) data searches which were part of an elaborate DOJ-FBI surveillance program on the political campaign of Donald Trump. (Tweet) Additionally, Chad Pergram reported that Chairman Devin Nunes met with Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte to discuss the best process to release the memo. There are generally two ways it could be done, the HPSCI vote is the most likely. As more people have become aware
Adam Schiff, reputedly a champion leaker from the House Intelligence Committee when it came to Russiagate material, suddenly thinks Ignorance is Bliss when it comes to the FISA warrant used to spy on the Trump campaign. Appearing on CNN, he tried to justify keep the 4 page memo that reportedly exposes the individuals who acted as part of a cabal to undermine the Trump campaign with help from NSA spying, and then pushed the “Russia collusion” conspiracy theory as part of the “insurance policy.” Americans are too ignorant, you see. Do you think Democrats are starting to panic? (Video) Rush
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. This is pure folly. The American people know so, that´s why in a recent survey a majority said keeping the government open
Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state´s social services programs. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement,
