Lawmakers describe pervasive
sexual harassment on Capitol Hill

The Hill, by Christina Marcus

Efforts to combat sexual harassment on Capitol Hill gained momentum on Tuesday as female lawmakers shared stories of male colleagues engaging in predatory behavior. Lawmakers in both parties had already expressed support for mandatory sexual harassment awareness training, which is currently voluntary for legislative branch staffers. But they went further in a House Administration Committee hearing on Capitol Hill’s harassment policies and said even more can be done in a male-dominated workplace where sexual harassment can be pervasive. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), in testimony before the panel,

Comments:
Well, as a start, they can invite all of the present and past House and Senate pages to submit a document detailing their "exploits" with the exalted members of these august institutions . . .

The wise consumer of news will not jump to conclusions based on personal viewpoints. For the record, three prominent men made moves of the ´Joe Biden´ variety in my working life. The women on here who advise
´slap ´em´ need to rethink that response. With cameras rolling, in front of an audience? Get real. Many of us don´t want to be touched, kissed or massaged while working. OK?

Iraqi forces captured the border town of Rawa, the last remaining town under Islamic State (IS) group control, on Friday, signalling the complete defeat of the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate. The capture of the town marks the end of IS group’s era of territorial rule over a so-called caliphate that it proclaimed in 2014 across vast swathes of Iraq and Syria. Iraqi forces “liberated Rawa entirely, and raised the Iraqi flag over its buildings,” Lieutenant General Abdul Ameer Rasheed Yarallah said in a statement from the Joint Operations Command. Rawa borders Syria.

US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe. The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump. Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is

Appointing a special counsel to probe her Uranium One deal would be “such an abuse of power” by the Trump administration, Hillary Clinton said Wednesday. The former Democratic presidential candidate said Trump risked dangerously politicizing the Justice Department, “like some authoritarian regime.” Clinton made the remarks in an interview with Mother Jones about reports this week that Attorney General Jeff Sessions asked two top prosecutors to look into the sale of a uranium company to Russian interests during Clinton’s time as secretary of state. President Trump and other Republicans allege ties between donations to the Clinton Foundation and the company sale, even though

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told attendees at a Wall Street Journal event on Tuesday that if Judge Roy Moore wins the Alabama Senate race in December, he will face a Senate ethics committee investigation. McConnell argued, “I think it’s safe to say that if he were to be sworn in, he would immediately be in a process before the Senate Ethics Committee. He would be sworn in and be asked to testify under oath as well, and it would be a rather unusual beginning.” The Washington Post released an article last week that alleged that Moore engaged in sexual

The allegations by five women that Roy Moore pursued and sexually molested teenage girls while he was in his 30s are disgusting, and disqualify him to serve in the United States Senate. Conservatives should be outraged at Moore for his loathsome conduct. But they should also be outraged at the man who helped put Moore on the ballot and is in the process of destroying the Trump presidency: Stephen K. Bannon. If the man Trump supported in the primary, Sen. Luther Strange, were the Republican nominee today, the GOP would be cruising to an easy victory in the Dec. 12 special

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Thursday that the Senate Ethics Committee should investigate Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) after his bribery and corruption trial ended in a mistrial. “Because of the seriousness of these charges, I am calling on the Senate Ethics committee to immediately investigate Senator Menendez’s actions which led to his indictment," McConnell said in a statement. That type of drastic action would require the league showing conduct detrimental to the league—which is exactly the language the league used in its Nov. 15 letter to Jones’s attorney, David Boies. That letter was shared with all of the league’s 32 owners. It was

WASHINGTON — Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Democrat of New York, who holds Hillary Clinton’s former seat, said on Thursday that Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency after his inappropriate relationship with an intern came to light nearly 20 years ago. Asked directly if she believed Mr. Clinton should have stepped down at the time, Ms. Gillibrand took a long pause and said, “Yes, I think that is the appropriate response.” But she also appeared to signal that what is currently considered a fireable offense may have been more often overlooked during the Clinton era. “Things have changed today, and I think under those

"Who that has been accused of sexual assault would have the gall to preach to others about sexual misconduct. How infuriating that would be. How tone deaf, Mr. President," Kelly said on NBC´s "Today" show Friday morning. Trump had tweeted Thursday night that Franken should not be advocating for respect of women.
