The plague death toll shows no sign of slowing as official figures reveal 165 have now lost their lives in Madagascar´s ´worst outbreak in 50 years´. Data shows a 15 per cent jump in fatalities over three days, with scientists concerned it has reached ´crisis´ point and 10 countries now placed on high alert. (Snip) Two thirds of cases have been caused by the airborne pneumonic plague, which can be spread through coughing, sneezing or spitting and kill within 24 hours. It is strikingly different to the bubonic form, responsible for the ´Black Death´ in the 14th century, which strikes the country
Comments: The responsible thing to do would be a quarantine of the island, at least until the locals decide to stop their beautiful tradition of dancing with corpses. But, a successful quarantine is bad for business.
A ban on travel from plague-ridden countries would be racist. Screening for the plague would also be racist. We have an obligation to bring as many plague carriers as possible into this country. Can´t wait to see "All plague immigrants welcome" signs popping up on the lawns of Progressives.
If it´s your culture to dance w/corpses and not be concerned with the possible consequences, well that is the very definition of a SAVAGE. KEEP then the heck out of the USA. If that sounds or seems racist-though sh**.
HIV is one of the most perfect diseases if you wanted to find one that could really destroy large swaths of the human species. But, it has one drawback- it is communicable only by communication with warm body fluids. If it had been pneumonic- It probably would have spelled the end of human beings. This bacterial plague going pneumonic is really bad news. but, it´s drawback is, it kills too quickly- and being hosted by bacteria, a vaccine can more easily be developed.
The "A-Bomb" of diseases as depicted int he movies is highly unlikely. Such pandemic diseases have to meet very limited criteria. The 1914-20 Spanish flu as bad as it was, probably killing 45 million to 100 million across the world in an age before international air travel was startling. But, even that disease had weaknesses- in primarily only killed young, healthy adults!
This new form of plague is not the "Big One" not by a long shot. It simply kills its host before the host can infect many other people. The "Big One" has to leave you healthy for a week or so before dropping you so you can infect lots of unsuspecting folks. When that one comes- Egad!
And the governments are our worst enemy- out of “kindness” and liberalism, they will help spread the disease before realizing their mistake- Which usually means; When government Officials start dropping like flies- they have made a terrible mistake. When it is just the little people, it’s “We must not be racists, ya know!”.
First, further proof reporters are stupid and lazy. Plague is a bacteria, which makes if far more treatable. I developed a project on biowarfare defense from plague some years ago, studied the topic, and worked with scientist and technicians who captured and handled Y. pestis routinely in their research work. Ordinary antibacterial cleaning is entirely effective when working with this bacteria.
In the developed world, the death rate from yersinia pestis is 1 in 9. The good news is that while it has been in the United States for over a century, there are less than 10 cases per year since the contact with the fleas isn´t common in modern life. I was warned many years ago on my first prairie dog hunt to never touch the dead animals, or even approach too closely, the fleas can jump up to 6-8 ft and they can (and do) carry plague.
Not easily transmitted if you use any sort of normal health care sanitary procedures, and even if it becomes pneumonic, still not spread extremely easily, although it can spread from person to person. Bacterial, so antibiotics do work. Thankfully not a virus, far harder to stop.
Federal Way, Wash. — A vicious attack left a woman in Federal Way with broken bones in her face. It might have been motivated by her effort to help others — warning them of a man who approached her asking for directions and then began fondling himself. A Democratic congresswoman says she was sexually assaulted by a “prominent, historical” senator in the 1980s — and “everyone on Capitol Hill knew” that he was a harasser. “Historical figure, hand kept going up the leg, I took it off. A women member was at the table, recognized what was happening, and said, ‘switch places,´” Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell told CNN. (Snip) Dingell said it happened in her first year of marriage to Rep. John Dingell, whom she wed in 1981. But despite the 36-year time gap, Dingell said she’s still afraid to name the prominent perv.
A Department of Homeland Security official resigned Thursday after a report revealed he had made racist remarks in past radio interviews. The Rev. Jamie Johnson, director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at DHS, said in a 2008 radio show that the black community had turned “America´s major cities into slums because of laziness, drug use and sexual promiscuity.” (Snip) In another discussion, Johnson said President George W. Bush made a “critical mistake” after the Sept. 11 terror attacks when he called Islam a religion of peace. “People who want a moderate version of Islam worldwide, the Islam that
Embattled Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore on Thursday said allegations that he sexually harassed women and girls won’t push him out of the race, and instead called on the GOP’s Senate leader to step down. Moore once again forcefully denied the accusations, and cut ties to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had called on Moore to step aside. “Many of you have recognized that this is an effort by Mitch McConnell and his cronies to steal this election from the people of Alabama, and they will not stand for it,” Moore told reporters. “I want to tell you
Des Moines, Iowa — As he tows a 96-square-foot house around Des Moines, Joe Stevens is overwhelmed by the intense, sometimes tearful support he receives from churches, schools and service groups for his plan to use the trendy little structures to help homeless people. But when Stevens actually tried to create a village of the homes in Iowa’s largest city, the response was far different. (Snip) In at least a dozen cases across the nation, neighbors organized to stop tiny house projects, including in Charlotte, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; San Jose, California; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Tallahassee, Florida; and Bend, Oregon.
Target Corp.’s holiday-quarter profit forecast missed analyst expectations, sending its shares down 10 percent on Wednesday as hopes faded that the retailer would make a shopping season comeback. Target has missed Wall Street’s fourth-quarter profit expectations for the past two years. It is gearing up for the holidays by cutting prices and introducing delivery options to compete with Wal-Mart and online sellers, moves that can lure customers but crimp margins. (Snip) “This is still a very competitive environment, and Target has no choice but to respond to that.. the problem is that Wall Street don’t necessarily understand

A special Haitian Senate commission is accusing more than a dozen former government officials and heads of private firms of embezzling $2 billion in Venezuelan oil loans — money that could have helped the country rebuild after its devastating earthquake in 2010. An anti-corruption investigation concluded that charges should be filed against two former prime ministers, several ex-ministers and the owners of private firms on grounds they misappropriated and embezzled money that left post-quake Haiti with unfinished government buildings, poorly constructed housing and overpriced public works contracts. (Snip) “It can be declared that the PETROCARIBE has been the object of embezzlement,

(Snip) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), on Monday called for Moore to “step aside,” and was followed by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and others. More than six in ten babies born in London hospitals have foreign mothers who are either immigrants or visiting from abroad, official figures show. The evidence of the impact of immigration on the NHS was revealed in a breakdown of hospital records for last year published by the Office for National Statistics. (Snip) In one London hospital nearly four out of five births were to mothers born abroad, and in two others the figure was over 70 per cent. Monday on CNBC, former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) said due to the sexual misconduct accusations leveled against former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, he should step aside in his campaign for the U.S. Senate. Bush said, “This is not a question of innocence or guilt like in a criminal proceeding, this is a question of what’s right and what’s wrong. Acknowledging that you’re dating teenagers when you’re 32-years old as assistant state attorney is wrong. It’s just plain wrong.” He added, “We need to stand for basic principles, and decency has to be one of those.
Former IRS executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court last week that members of her family, including “young children,” face death threats and a real risk of physical harm if her explanation of the tea party targeting scandal becomes public. Ms. Lerner and Holly Paz, her deputy at the IRS, filed documents in court Thursday saying tapes and transcripts of depositions they gave in a court case this year must remain sealed in perpetuity, or else they could spur an enraged public to retaliate. “Whenever Mss. Lerner and Paz have been in the media spotlight, they have faced death threats and
The father of one of the UCLA basketball players arrested on suspicion of shoplifting while on tour in China isn´t praising President Donald Trump for his involvement in their release. When asked by ESPN what role the president played in brokering his son´s freedom, LaVar Ball — a former basketball player himself and star on the Facebook reality series "Ball in the Family" — responded with his own questions. "Who? What was he over there for? Don´t tell me nothing," Ball said. "Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out." Ball in EPSN´s report on Saturday also downplayed
What a disgusting cesspool of self-serving corruption is the nation’s capital and no better example of that can be found today than Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell who, according to longtime political activist, Ned Ryun, was a primary source of the anti-Roy Moore stories that are now attempting to sway the upcoming Alabama special election and help clear the path for a Trump impeachment attempt in 2018.“…I strongly suspect it’s a very short list of people, all who are associated with Mitch McConnell – whether it’s Josh Holmes, whether it’s Karl Rove, might even be Steven Law – I don’t

The 57-year-old claimed she´s on Interpol’s list and is being shunned by Hollywood. “I just want you guys to know that I am fully in the middle of a blacklist, like I’m in the middle of a Hollywood blacklist. It is real. I’m not booked on any
While editing ‘Vanity Fair’ in the ’80s and ’90s, Daily Beast founder Tina Brown confided some of her best dish to her now published diary, including this gem about Jackie Kennedy. Thursday, July 6, 1989 Quogue- I love how New York changes so completely in the summer. It’s my favorite time of year here, sitting at my wooden desk before the open window with the cool sea breeze. The August issue arrived by FedEx. The Jackie O cover story, and Michael Milken’s rise and fall by Marie, is a much more commercial combo than July. To generate some summer heat I assigned Ed Klein to do Jackie to mark her sixtieth birthday. I asked him because he was always going on about how she liked him when he edited The New York Times Magazine.
Doug Jones, the Democrat running for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat, says he loves to hunt but the Second Amendment has “limitations.” He believes that every right enumerated in the Bill of Rights is limited, and the Second Amendment is no exception.According to the Alabama Political Reporter, Jones described himself as “a Second Amendment guy,” but stressed that some gun control is necessary. He said, “We’ve got limitations on all constitutional amendments in one form or another.” This position is contrary to the clear language of the amendment, which states that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be
Mark Osborne writes at ABC News that Republican Senator Jeff Flake was caught on a hot mic criticizing President Donald Trump and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore: Sen. Jeff Flake, a frequent sparring partner of President Donald Trump, continues to make enemies in his own party after calling the GOP “toast” while unaware he was still on a live mic. Flake, R-Ariz., was at a tax reform event in Mesa, Arizona on Friday night when he was caught bashing the president in a conversation with friend, Mesa Mayor John Giles. “If we become the party of Roy Moore and Donald
More than two dozen investigators have spent weeks scouring wine country trying to solve the mystery at the heart of the most destructive wildfires in California history: What caused the infernos that killed 43 people and destroyed more than 8,000 buildings? The answers will have wide-ranging ramifications for the region, which faces staggering losses and a challenging rebuilding effort. Losses from insured properties alone are expected to far exceed $1 billion, and the total bill for the fires will be still higher. Just fighting the fires cost $189 million, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Cal Fire is
In the longstanding liberal narrative about Bill Clinton and his scandals, the one pushed by Clinton courtiers and ratified in media coverage of his post-presidency, our 42nd president was only guilty of being a horndog, his affairs were nobody’s business but his family’s, and oral sex with Monica Lewinsky was a small thing that should never have put his presidency in peril. That narrative could not survive the current wave of outrage over male sexual misconduct. So now a new one may be forming for the age of Harvey Weinstein and Donald Trump. In this story, Kenneth Starr and the
A spokesperson for Sen. Al Franken, a Democrat from Minnesota, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that ´no´ the embattled senator would not resign. ´He is spending time with his family in Washington, D.C., and will be through the Thanksgiving holiday,´ the aide told the newspaper. ´And he´s doing a lot of reflecting.´ On Thursday, Franken became the latest high-profile man whose career is now in jeopardy over bad behavior with a woman. Radio host Leeann Tweeden said in 2006, when performing alongside Franken at a traveling USO tour, the then-comedian grabbed her breasts without her permission when Tweeden was sleeping and kissed
Brooklyn College is kowtowing to cop-hating students by directing officers who need a bathroom break to the broken-down facilities in a building on the far edge of campus. Amid a planned petition drive to ban cops from the taxpayer-funded campus, Donald Wenz, the school’s director of public safety, told the student newspaper The Excelsior that he’s trying to keep New York’s Finest out of sight. While Wenz said all of the school’s restrooms were technically open to cops, the college prefers they stick to those in the isolated West End Building, “rather than walking across either quad to use the
Washington - President Donald Trump says he should have left three UCLA basketball players accused of shoplifting in China in jail. (Snip) Says Trump: "Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!" Trump later tweeted: "Shoplifting is a very big deal in China, as it should be (5-10 years in jail), but not to father LaVar. Should have gotten his son out during my next trip to China instead. China told them why they were released. Very ungrateful!"
