Romney moves toward Senate bid
Politico, by Alex Isenstad

Original Article

Mitt Romney is edging closer to a 2018 Senate run. The former GOP presidential nominee is huddling with Utah’s class of GOP power brokers, contacting the state’s major political donors, and hitting the trail for candidates running in local races amid mounting speculation that the state’s longtime senator, Orrin Hatch, will retire. Romney is also raising money for House and Senate Republicans, winning him favor with GOP leaders ahead of a treacherous midterm election.

I have no doubt that Romney is a good man, conservative in his ideals and goals and would be a very good Senator. When he ran as Pres - I voted for him. There´s only 2 options - one has to lose. Mitt lost, but I think it had more to do with influences OTHER than his competency, capabilities and potential as president. But by and large - in this country - we don´t care about that.

It doesn´t really matter. If the Republi-CAN´Ts in Congress keep sitting on their hands and failing to pass anything of consequence, Republican voters are going to sit home in droves in the next couple of elections, and the Demon-RAT´s are going to have another unstoppable majority.

Romney is just another uni-party RINO.

He will win if he runs. But it won´t matter. Just another useless impotent Republi-CAN´T RINO to waste air and tax dollars, and disappoint conservatives everywhere...

He´s not a conservative. He´s an opportunist. And worst of all, he´s not a statesman, he´s the worst kind of politician. I´d vote for a democrat before I´d vote for him. Romney is not someone I would vote for as a general rule, and that was entirely true during the Presidential election. I was no fan of his politics then, IMO anyone who could be elected in Mass is not someone I would support.

Ultimately, the final choice comes down to ´which candidate will do the most good, or the least harm?´.

I would vote for him again over Obama without a millisecond of hesitation, but I´d vote for Trump over him with even less hesitation.

The critical question in politics is always "Compared to what?".

Mitt Romney is a politically-unprincipled opportunist. He always has been, and he always will be. Historically, we were given was a choice between supporting an entrenched GOP establishment that neither respects nor delivers on anything remotely resembling conservative principles, or forfeiting the seat to a Democrat.

President Trump offered a totally different deal, and he has done his level best to keep his end of it. So here´s my end of it: I can´t save my country until I get a party that represents the ideas that would save it. I will no longer vote for Republicans who oppose my president in trying to enact my agenda.

That is a rigged game, and I´m no longer going to play.

Arizona Senate Primary Battle Officially Kicks Off

The Arizona Senate primary officially kicked off Friday, and it’s going to be a battle — with war planes and all. Republican Rep. Martha McSally launched her Senate run at the Tucson Jet Center on Friday morning and will travel to other areas of the state later in the day. She donned a blue flight suit to fly in a World War II-era AT-6 trainer to Phoenix, and then to Prescott. McSally, of course, is piloting the plane herself. “Fly, fight and win. That’s our plan,” said McSally, a second-term congresswoman and the first female pilot to fly in combat.

Republicans hoping to hold on to the Arizona Senate seat currently held by Sen. Jeff Flake (R) face an increasingly tumultuous primary environment, with firebrand former sheriff Joe Arpaio entering the race from the right and Rep. Martha McSally trying to win over President Trump’s supporters without alienating more moderate general election voters. The Tuesday announcement from Arpaio, whose criminal contempt conviction Trump pardoned last year, came just days before McSally joined the primary. While Arpaio made his name as an immigration hard-liner and promoter of the discredited conspiracy theory that former President Obama wasn’t born in the United States, McSally

Federal prosecutors have long insisted the goal of a fraud scheme at Pilot Flying J was to boost the truck stop giant’s profit and market share, and this week they served up numbers to try to prove it. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga this week heard testimony and saw financial records showing that Pilot Flying J’s margin on diesel fuel sales, the number of truck stops it controlled and the amount of diesel fuel it sold all grew substantially during the time of the fraud at issue in the ongoing trial of the firm’s former president and three subordinates. It would rank as one of the greatest political upsets of 2018 and a stunning rebuke to Trumpism: a gay Latina Democrat grabbing hold of the country’s biggest red state. But is Texas ready for Lupe Valdez? The question was first posed in Dallas in 2004, when Valdez scored a surprise victory to become the nation’s first openly gay female Hispanic sheriff on the same night that George W Bush secured a second term in the White House. She won re-election three times in Dallas county before announcing last month that she would resign to stand for Texas governor. Born in San Antonio,

Lots of the news from sub-Saharan Africa is about war, famine, poverty or political upheaval. So it’s understandable if many Americans think most Africans who immigrate to the United States are poorly educated and desperate. Research tells another story.
