Senators Push To Defund Jeff Sessions’
Civil Asset Forfeiture Expansion

Reason, by C.J. Ciaramella

Original Article

Posted By:zoidberg, 11/9/2017 8:24:48 AM

A bipartisan group of senators wants to defund Attorney General Jeff Sessions´ expansion of the Justice Department´s civil asset forfeiture program, following similar efforts by libertarian-leaning and progressive members of the House earlier this year. Sessions announced in July that he was scrapping a 2015 directive by former Attorney General Eric Holder that severely curtailed when federal authorities could "adopt" asset forfeiture cases from local and state authorities. Such adoptions, civil rights group said, allowed local police to skirt stricter state forfeiture laws by taking their cases to federal court.

I am in full support of defunding or outlawing the entire program and prosecuting anyone who uses it.
This has been around long enough to prove that the government will abuse any power it has. It doesn´t matter what party is in charge or who is backing it. Its legalized crime.
Its bad enough that sleazy men with guns steal our stuff. Its worse when you cant call the cops because they ARE the cops.

Why isn´t Sessions going after the Hillbag´s ill gotten gains. He must be fired if he doesn´t assign a special prosecutor to Uranium ONe, emails, and election fraud. Sessions is a HUGELY disappointment.

It´s disgraceful that courts allow clearly unconstitutional actions such as this theft of private property by government. Crooked law enforcement has no place in a civilized society.

Abusers should be prosecuted.

That said, civil forfeiture should be expanded to include any assets of illegal aliens, including home, car, bank accounts, up to the clothes not worn at the time of arrest. There´s "comprehensive immigration reform" for you.

The Supreme Court tends to be a rubber stamp when it comes to legislation like this. Any Justice of legal competence and sense of morality would have struck this down when it was originally challenged. But no, it was allowed to stand utilizing a new legal fiction that property can be guilty even if the owner isn´t. Unconscionable! It´s the same immoral, twisted butt kissing that Roberts did to ram Obamacare down our throats.

But, I guess since the police like it, then it must continue. Gotta support law enforcement, you know. I´m all for supporting law enforcement, but not through theft of private property under the color of law. That´s what taxes are for.

Or Chuckie Schemer ordered it done...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that while he supports additional barriers at the U.S.-Mexico border, he believes some of the estimated costs for President Trump’s border wall are too high to justify. "I remain a fiscal conservative, even on the wall, so I’m not excited about spending $20, $30, $40 billion on a wall. I’m still a believer that we don’t have money to spend. We’re $700 billion in the hole,” Paul said on CNN.  “And while I will vote for money for barriers, I’m not voting for $40 billion for barriers,” Paul added.  A report last week detailed Trump’s

The 85-year-old Arizonan—an unrepentant birther, nativist, and whiny baby—told the Washington Examiner that he will run on a platform of supporting the agenda of President Donald Trump, who pardoned Arpaio last year after a federal judge held the ex-sheriff in criminal contempt. "I have a lot to offer. I´m a big supporter of President Trump," Arpaio told the paper. "I´m going to have to work hard; you don´t take anything for granted.

After criticism by some local officials of a new program that refers people caught with four ounces or less of marijuana for fines and community service, El Paso, Texas, Police Chief Greg Allen turned out to be a surprise defender of bypassing the usual criminal justice rigmarole of booking, mug shots, and jails. While careful to emphasize that he´s no fan of drug legalization, Allen says it´s a waste of his officers´ time to put hours into an "an arrest that has no end result of a conviction because of jury nullification."

The most exhausting thing about the Middle East — except for the bloodshed, poverty, tyranny, etc. — is that it refuses to conform to how it’s described in the West. It’s like journalists, diplomats, and politicians want to announce a football game, but the players keep insisting on playing rugby. The field looks similar. The scoring isn’t all that different. More often than not, President Donald Trump has tweeted something that outrages a whole mess of people, and the fallout can last for hours on end. Part of me is amused by this. It is pretty clear that one of the purposes of Trump’s Twitter feed is to drive people crazy, and for the life of me, I don’t know why people rush to take the bait.

Our national debt is $20.5 trillion and heading to $30 trillion by 2030. You´d think that this would be a wake-up call for Republicans, who control all three branches of government, to finally take spending seriously. Instead, they want to get rid of the spending caps meant to constrain lawmakers´ uncontrollable appetite to spend. The spending caps were implemented as part of the Budget Control Act of 2011. The deal itself was the result of a vigorous debt ceiling battle between those who wanted the unconditional ability to raise the debt limit and those who called for fiscal discipline going

There’s a lot not to like about the current Republican tax proposal, beginning with its effect on the debt, to which it will add about $1.3 trillion according to current estimates. It is becoming something of an unfortunate tradition in American politics that deficits only matter to the party out of power. Republicans wailed and moaned about the Obama-Pelosi-Reid deficits and, to their credit, reduced them when they came to power in Congress. But having whiffed on health-care reform and much else toward which they have turned their increasingly addled, muddled, and unample attention, they are desperate to pass some

Again, it’s a yes-or-no question. Finally, do you believe that there are conditions under which a child molester should sit in the United States Senate? Again, this question is binary. Yet many conservatives seem to be seeking a third answer to all three of these questions, mostly to avoid giving straight answers. Let’s begin with the first question: Did Roy Moore molest a 14-year-old girl?
