Bill Kristol on Trump, Romney,
the GOP, conservatives and Mormons

Deseret News (Utah), by Staff

Conservative commentator Bill Kristol, founder and editor-at-large of the Weekly Standard, and Boyd Matheson, president of the conservative think tank Sutherland Institute, sat down with the Deseret News and KSL editorial boards Friday to talk politics, conservatism, Donald Trump and the future of the Republican Party. Kristol was a staunch critic of candidate Trump prior to the election and continues to be critical of a president he has said is not qualified for the office he holds. What emerged Friday was an optimism in the country and its institutions, and a call for more action by conservatives. He also offered his

Kristol has found a soft landing spot with the Mormons… and continues to spend most of his time sitting around in lounge chairs at interviews, spouting the same old boring stuff.

He used to be the terminally boring member of any panel he participated in - long years ago on PBS and so forth. Lefty E. J. Dionne and faux conservative David Brooks were on the same pundit circuit and equally boring.

If all those critics would sit back and observe for a while, it may dawn on them that, up until now, Government has been run poorly, just flat wrong. Trump is a long range, results oriented guy. That, my friends, is the way to run the Executive Branch.

We don´t want to hear about how difficult it is. Just get busy. And shuddup.

Marxists never, ever generate optimism with taxes, regulation and oppressive government. Kristol and other never Trumpers should focus on Trump policy not personality. Time to grow up.

Romney takes swipe at Trump

Mitt Romney took a swipe at Donald Trump on Monday, condemning the crude comments the president was said to have made about Haiti and African countries -- calling them “inconsistent (with) America’s history and antithetical to American values” with a reference to Martin Luther King, Jr. The poverty of an aspiring immigrant’s nation of origin is as irrelevant as their race,” Romney tweeted. “The sentiment attributed to POTUS is inconsistent w/America’s history and antithetical to American values. May our memory of Dr. King buoy our hope for unity, greatness, & ‘charity for all.’”

Arizona Senate Primary Battle Officially Kicks Off
Roll Call, by Bridget Bowman    Original Article

The Arizona Senate primary officially kicked off Friday, and it’s going to be a battle — with war planes and all. Republican Rep. Martha McSally launched her Senate run at the Tucson Jet Center on Friday morning and will travel to other areas of the state later in the day. She donned a blue flight suit to fly in a World War II-era AT-6 trainer to Phoenix, and then to Prescott. McSally, of course, is piloting the plane herself. “Fly, fight and win. That’s our plan,” said McSally, a second-term congresswoman and the first female pilot to fly in combat.

Republicans hoping to hold on to the Arizona Senate seat currently held by Sen. Jeff Flake (R) face an increasingly tumultuous primary environment, with firebrand former sheriff Joe Arpaio entering the race from the right and Rep. Martha McSally trying to win over President Trump’s supporters without alienating more moderate general election voters. The Tuesday announcement from Arpaio, whose criminal contempt conviction Trump pardoned last year, came just days before McSally joined the primary. While Arpaio made his name as an immigration hard-liner and promoter of the discredited conspiracy theory that former President Obama wasn’t born in the United States, McSally

Federal prosecutors have long insisted the goal of a fraud scheme at Pilot Flying J was to boost the truck stop giant’s profit and market share, and this week they served up numbers to try to prove it. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga this week heard testimony and saw financial records showing that Pilot Flying J’s margin on diesel fuel sales, the number of truck stops it controlled and the amount of diesel fuel it sold all grew substantially during the time of the fraud at issue in the ongoing trial of the firm’s former president and three subordinates. It would rank as one of the greatest political upsets of 2018 and a stunning rebuke to Trumpism: a gay Latina Democrat grabbing hold of the country’s biggest red state. But is Texas ready for Lupe Valdez? The question was first posed in Dallas in 2004, when Valdez scored a surprise victory to become the nation’s first openly gay female Hispanic sheriff on the same night that George W Bush secured a second term in the White House. She won re-election three times in Dallas county before announcing last month that she would resign to stand for Texas governor. Born in San Antonio,

Lots of the news from sub-Saharan Africa is about war, famine, poverty or political upheaval. So it’s understandable if many Americans think most Africans who immigrate to the United States are poorly educated and desperate. Research tells another story. While many are refugees, large numbers are beneficiaries of the diversity-visa program aimed at boosting immigration from underrepresented nations. And on average, African immigrants are better educated than people born in the U.S. or the immigrant population as a whole.
