Enrique Hernandez propels Dodgers
to first World Series since 1988

CHICAGO -- It hasn´t been 108 years since the Los Angeles Dodgers have won a World Series, but they are one step closer to erasing their own drought. After knocking out the defending champion Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series with an 11-1 victory at Wrigley Field on Thursday, the Dodgers are back in the World Series for the first time since 1988, when Orel Hershiser and Kirk Gibson led the team to a dramatic upset of the Oakland A´s. This is the Dodgers´ 11th postseason appearance since then, and their stretch of 10 appearances in a row

What a year! Tonight was the perfect ending to an exciting playoff season.

The Dodgers are fun to watch because they seem to be really nice guys who play well and also like each other. They have a good time.

I just happened to see Kirk Gibson’s walk off homer in 1988. All by myself, cheering.

I´m hoping for Dodgers v Yankees. The two teams have met in more World Series (11) than any other two teams in baseball. The classic Fall Classic.

Wow, OP, I also was there (blue seats above first base) all by myself, couldn´t believe it, the cheering!, people were crying... lots of hugs... one of the best nights! I ran to a phone booth (!) and called my dad. Tonight... amazing. I only hope the Astros can pull it out so we can relive the rivalry of when the Dodgers and Houston were both in the NL West!

Growing List of Republicans Say Goodbye
to Washington Ahead of Midterms
Washington Post, by Andrew Rafferty    Original Article

WASHINGTON — A growing number of House Republicans are choosing to voluntarily drain the swamp one year ahead of the midterm elections. Nearly two dozen congressional Republicans have so far announced they will not be running for re-election, leaving Democrats enthusiastic about the potential for major gains in the 2018 elections. Nine Republicans are running for a different elected position, while 12 are retiring. And while Congressional retirements are common (on average, 22 House members retire each cycle, according to a CQ Roll Call analysis), the numbers so far are glaringly one-sided. Just two Democratic House members have announced retirements, while six

Some senior figures detained in last Saturday´s purge in Saudi Arabia were beaten and tortured so badly during their arrest or subsequent interrogations that they required hospital treatment, Middle East Eye can reveal. People inside the royal court also told MEE that the scale of the crackdown, which has brought new arrests each day, is much bigger than Saudi authorities have admitted, with more than 500 people detained and double that number questioned. Members of the royal family, government ministers and business tycoons were caught up in the sudden wave of arrests orchestrated by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known

NIAMEY, Niger — The body of Sgt. Roy Moore’s refusal to bow out of Alabama’s special election for a Senate seat is the latest demonstration of the diminished power of congressional leaders and other, once-powerful institutions in Washington. The Republican nominee, accused of sexual contact with a 14-year-old when he was a 32-year-old local prosecutor, brushed off calls for him to stand down as part of plot by establishment figures to “undermine this campaign” before the Dec. 12 ballot. Moore ignored the severing of financial ties by the National Republican Senatorial Committee for similar reasons. He summed up today’s environment in a fundraising pitch to supporters Friday morning: “I

When the House passed a preliminary tax reform bill earlier this month the Republican Senate leadership moved quickly to slow the process. The effort has been led (again) by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The primary motivation for the delay isn’t coming from a desire for more time to further review the steps toward eventual tax reform passage but rather to muddy the waters and ultimately ensure it is as weak and ineffectual bill that will provide as little political momentum for President Trump. That is how deep the dislike for Mr. Trump goes among some of DC’s most powerful

We don’t want TPP to collapse, because TPP ties the hands of Canada and Mexico to elements of trade that are based on collective interests. Their joining TPP provides the U.S. leverage in NAFTA. I am really sorry that John McCain suffers from a brain affliction, but he continues to play an active role in politics, and so I must call him out when he does something really outrageous. Yesterday, Sen. McCain called on Judge Roy Moore to "immediately step aside" after unproven allegations of sexual impropriety were published in a liberal newspaper. No waffling about "if true..." That is a standard Senator McCain did not apply to himself under similar circumstances. During his 2008 presidential bid, the New York Times published a story alleging sexual misconduct with a female lobbyist. McCain fought it.
