CHICAGO -- It hasn´t been 108 years since the Los Angeles Dodgers have won a World Series, but they are one step closer to erasing their own drought. After knocking out the defending champion Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series with an 11-1 victory at Wrigley Field on Thursday, the Dodgers are back in the World Series for the first time since 1988, when Orel Hershiser and Kirk Gibson led the team to a dramatic upset of the Oakland A´s. This is the Dodgers´ 11th postseason appearance since then, and their stretch of 10 appearances in a row
Comments: What a year! Tonight was the perfect ending to an exciting playoff season.
The Dodgers are fun to watch because they seem to be really nice guys who play well and also like each other. They have a good time.
I just happened to see Kirk Gibson’s walk off homer in 1988. All by myself, cheering.
Wow, OP, I also was there (blue seats above first base) all by myself, couldn´t believe it, the cheering!, people were crying... lots of hugs... one of the best nights! I ran to a phone booth (!) and called my dad. Tonight... amazing. I only hope the Astros can pull it out so we can relive the rivalry of when the Dodgers and Houston were both in the NL West!
Nearly two years after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that prison inmates who killed as teenagers are capable of change and may deserve eventual freedom, the question remains unresolved: Which ones should get a second chance? Now the ruling — which came in the case of a 71-year-old Louisiana inmate still awaiting a parole hearing — is being tested again in that same state, where prosecutors have moved in recent months to keep about 1 in 3 former juvenile offenders locked up for the rest of their lives.(Snip) "In this community, some of the most violent crimes we´ve had have been
Let us begin at the end of the beginning: “Dunkirk” is the best film of 2017. It is an epic war movie, where names are neither memorable nor necessary because the scenes are unforgettable. And the suspense is almost unbearable, as the story is more about psychological terror than physical turmoil. The terror of aloneness. The terror of bombardment from air, land, and sea. The terror of abject failure, as the enemy attempts to destroy Europe’s only hope for freedom and drown England’s only chance to remain free. The terror of watching this epic unfold in record time (106 minutes),
Brilliant-brilliant-brilliant. With a single tweet, (that is already well on its way to generating 100k+ likes) Donald Trump has forcefully pushed Democrats into a corner and likely secured a full victory for plans for a new wall on the nation’s southern border. The Democrats have been told, and fully understand, that there can be no DACA without the desperately needed WALL at the Southern Border and an END to the horrible Chain Migration & ridiculous Lottery System of Immigration etc. We must protect our Country at all cost! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 29, 2017 What Mr. Trump has done is use one
Michael Patrick Leahy at Breitbart believes Vince McMahon of pro-wrestling fame is going to revive the XFL to compete with the NFL come this fall. The MAGA league would be patriotic and push traditional football whatever that means.Trump and McMahon are friends. They worked together in the past. McMahon´s wife holds a key position in the Trump administration. So, the story of McMahon reviving the XFL does seem credible. McMahon could take a flier on investing $100 million in an eight-city league. The XFL´s one season in 1982 drew a record TV audience the first night before fizzling. (Snip) Leahy
President Trump gave Mike Schmidt of the New York Times an impromptu half-hour interview on Trump´s golf course. The press went wild. People who last week bitched about no year-end press conference showed open hostility to the president talking to a reporter unguarded by his flacks. The reaction tells you everything about the power of the press. The unstaffed president of the United States, who likes to talk to reporters, bumped into the incomparable @nytmike at one of his golf courses and did what he is always inclined to do -‘talk for a half-hour on record. No staff https://t.co/WWwxhn1W8W — Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) December
Immediately following confirmation by Senator Lindsey Graham about the origin of the 2016 FBI Counterintelligence Operation against candidate Donald Trump, The New York Times, via Clinton’s favorite voice Maggie Haberman, pushes out an article attempting to cloud, obfuscate and justify the joint FBI and DOJ surveillance operation against Trump. (Tweet) The timing, content and presentation of the disinformation is transparent in the intended motive. More and more people are recognizing the FBI application to the FISA court was based on political information, the Steele Dossier, assembled by political operatives and used by political operatives within the DOJ National Security Division
There are times when the audacity of the most political poll-testing opportunist on the planet reaches beyond stratospheric levels of comprehension. Cue the visual: (Tweet)Arguably the most consequential failure of the Hillary State Department was in 2009 when the U.S. undermined the Iranian Green Revolution. Not only did the U.S. do nothing to help the opposition against the Iranian regime, but US funding was cut for democratic organizations/programs in Iran under Clinton’s State Department. It was Hillary Clinton who supported the Mullahs in an ill-fated decision to achieve the ridiculous Iranian Nuclear Deal which she was just praising and defending three
In the dining room of her quaint, brick Alexandria home, Linda Nickens sat quietly as she traced her glittery, pink fingernails over an old black-and-white photo of the late Charles “Pruner” West. Nickens, who has lived at her house since 1974, has seen her collection of photos, footballs, plaques, books, awards and trinkets multiply as her once-bare walls have become full of deep-rooted memories. At the dining room table, Nickens, 72, spread out a handful of photos, going through one by one as she recounted the stories of the man some called “Doctor,” others “Pruner” or “Charlie,” but to her
Bret Stephens writes in the New York Times that even though he is happy with the policy achievements of the Trump Administration in its first year, he will never support Donald Trump because he is offended by the president’s personality: Tax cuts. Deregulation. More for the military; less for the United Nations. The Islamic State crushed in its heartland. Assad hit with cruise missiles. Troops to Afghanistan. Arms for Ukraine. A tougher approach to North Korea. Jerusalem recognized as Israel’s capital. The Iran deal decertified. Title IX kangaroo courts on campus condemned. Yes to Keystone. No to Paris. Wall Street roaring
LOS ANGELES (AP) Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield made it to Rose Bowl media day after all, swooping in late and providing a jolt of drama as he noted he has been dealing with ”flu-like” symptoms. The Heisman Trophy winner missed the first half of the 45-minute session Saturday morning at a downtown hotel, but arrived in time to meet with the media for the first time this week ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal between the second-ranked Sooners and No. 3 Georgia on Monday night. Mayfield was not expected to attend as he’s been dealing with the illness the past few
President Trump should take decisive action in 2018 to support the ouster of the virulently anti-American theocracy that has ruled Iran with an iron fist and threatened its neighbors for the past four decades. The president’s first step should be to throw American support behind the brave anti-government protesters who have taken to the streets in mass demonstrations across the Islamic Republic since Thursday. The street protests continued Saturday, with demonstrations in cities including the capital of Tehran and Kermanshah. In a good first step, the U.S. State Department announced Friday that the America “strongly condemns the arrest of peaceful protesters. We
The Daily Mail has published an article citing a 4chan hoax to accuse a former White House intern of supporting white supremacy after he was pictured using the OK hand-sign. In their article, the Daily Mail cited a 4chan hoax, which has been debunked by numerous organizations, in an attempt to associate former intern Jack Breuer with “white power” and white nationalists. (Snip) It wasn’t until the end of his article that Gould acknowledged the fact that the Anti Defamation League (ADL) debunked the hoax earlier this year.
Everyone suspected the sketchy Steele Dossier was what corrupt FBI and DOJ officials used to get the October 2016 FISA warrant against Trump. FBI and DOJ officials refuse to answer that question publicly. Despite a hundred different ways congressional investigators have asked the question, and despite numerous on-camera questions to FBI and DOJ officials about the 2016 FISA process, no-one had definitively confirmed the Christopher Steele ‘Russian Dossier’ was the underlying evidence for the 2016 FISA application to gain wiretaps and electronic surveillance upon presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairman Ed Rendell says if former Vice President Joe Biden runs against President Trump in 2020 he would "win overwhelmingly." In an interview with New York´s AM 970 radio host John Catsimatidis, Rendell said Biden is the Democrats´ "superstar" and has a real chance of winning in 2020. "There´s only one person I can say who will definitely win the election and has a superstar appeal in almost every state in the union, and that´s Vice President Biden," Rendell said. "Of course, people say he´s too old. But he´s only a year and a half

Washington — During a night of heavy drinking at an upscale London bar in May 2016, George Papadopoulos, a young foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, made a startling revelation to Australia’s top diplomat in Britain: Russia had political dirt on Hillary Clinton.About three weeks earlier, Mr. Papadopoulos had been told that Moscow had thousands of emails that would embarrass Mrs. Clinton, apparently stolen in an effort to try to damage her campaign.Exactly how much Mr. Papadopoulos said that night at the Kensington Wine Rooms with the Australian, Alexander Downer, is unclear. But two months
President Trump’s love for all things gold apparently doesn’t extend to the Golden State. Trump is about to become the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower 64 years ago to skip a visit to California during his first calendar year in office. And he doesn’t appear to have any plans to take Air Force One to the country’s most populous and economically powerful state before he marks his first full year in office Jan. 20. Even past presidents who, like Trump, didn´t win the state´s electoral votes made it a destination, if only for California’s allure as the Golden State

(New York) The Black Lives Matter activist Erica Garner has died, after a week in hospital following a heart attack. She was 27. Garner was the daughter of Eric Garner, a man who died in a police chokehold in New York in 2014. Among tributes, Senator Bernie Sanders said that although Garner “didn’t ask to be an activist, she responded to the personal tragedy of seeing her father die … by becoming a leading proponent for criminal justice reform and for an end to police brutality”. Announcing Garner’s death in New York on Saturday morning, the Rev Al Sharpton said she was “a warrior to the end” and said “her heart was
My big fat shoplifting spree. Actress Lainie Kazan, who played Maria Portokalos in the 2002 film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," was reportedly a known shoplifter in the supermarket where she was arrested on Christmas Eve, TMZ reports. Kazan, 77, was arrested after she walked out of Gelson´s supermarket in San Fernando Valley on Dec. 24with $180 of unpaid groceries, according to reports. Employees of the store told TMZ that Kazan would often pull the same trick by filling up her basket, walking toward the checkout line and then make a quick exit as other shoppers were leaving the store.
The Trump administration announced on Friday it will not be sending military aid totaling $255 million to Pakistan. The monetary aid was denied to the Pakistan government in response to its ineffective action against terrorists and militants on its soil. The Hindustan Times reported: The Trump administration on Friday announced the United States will deny Pakistan military aid amounting to $255 million as it expects Islamabad to take decisive action “against terrorists and militants on its soil”. “The United States does not plan to spend the $255 million in FY 2016 in Foreign Military Financing for Pakistan at this time,”
Attendees at the Valero Alamo Bowl booed the Stanford University Band during its halftime performance after the bandsmen mocked the border wall, Whataburger, and all things Texan. The performance came during the California university’s bowl game versus Texas Christian University (TCU). TCU responded by defeating the Stanford Cardinals. The Stanford marching band, known for satirical halftime performances, poked fun at Texan’s state pride, the border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, horned frogs (the TCU mascot), and Whataburger (the iconic Texas hamburger chain), KSAT reported. Audience members booed

At least five emails determined to be classified were found among 2,800 documents stored on a laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner, whose then-wife Huma Abedin was deputy chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The State Department released hundreds of pages of materials Friday afternoon, including a total of eight pages classified at the ´confidential level,´ the third most sensitive level the U.S. government uses. The emails date from 2010, 2011 and 2012 and concern discussions with Middle East leaders including some from Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. Large portions, including entire pages,
