Weekend at Thad’s: Mississippi
Senator ‘Frail and Disoriented’

A four and a half decades-long career as a member of the Congress of the United States is coming to a humiliating and undignified end for 79-year-old Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS). A reporter from Politico captured the sad scene at the Capitol on Wednesday: Cochran appeared frail and at times disoriented during a brief hallway interview on Wednesday. He was unable to answer whether he would remain chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and at one point, needed a staffer to remind him where the Senate chamber is located. “Don’t believe everything you hear,” Cochran said in a low voice when asked whether he

What is it with people who won’t let go, or the people who won’t let them let go?

Appropriations is too critical a committee to be chaired by a zombie.

It is sad. Think about Nancy Pelosi and John McCain. There has to be an age limit and term limits. These people are letting their staff write the laws and we did not elect the staff. We have no idea who they are or what they stand for. This has to stop!!!!

I don´t want age limit, but term limits would be good. I don´t care what political stripe you are, absolute power corrupts absolutely. The perks of being a high ranking official become just as addicting as welfare. No incentive to leave since you are so well taken care of..

Looks like we´ve found out the identity of one of the fossils in Congress who´s on Alzheimer´s drugs.

It is shameful how these seriously ill and possibly demented Congressmen and women are propped up well beyond their capacity to represent their constituents. I´m thinking of Strom Thurmond, Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy, Thad Cochran, John McCain, and Nancy Pelosi.

#4, a Convention of States is the way to get this proposed as a Constitutional Amendment. Then it goes through the normal process, requiring 3/4 (38) state legislatures ratify it. This route cuts Congress entirely out of the process, an important feature that our brilliant founding fathers put in place. Unfortunately, we have yet to use it.

Thursday, November 16 marked 300 days since President Donald Trump took office on January 20. The third 100 days were even more tumultuous than the first 100 and second 100. And much remains undone. There are still jobs to fill, promises to keep, and bills to sign. Trump has yet to notch a major legislative achievement (thanks, in part, to infighting and incompetence in Congress). But the Trump administration seems, at last, to have found a rhythm.
