The United States and the world appear to be reliving the language, politics, and global instability of 1968. Almost a half-century ago, in 1968, the United States seemed to be falling apart. The Vietnam War, a bitter and close presidential election, antiwar protests, racial riots, political assassinations, terrorism, and a recession looming on the horizon left the country divided between a loud radical minority and a silent conservative majority. The United States avoided a civil war. But America suffered a collective psychological depression, civil unrest, defeat in Vietnam, and assorted disasters for the next decade — until the election of
Yes Victor! Just what I have been thinking too-this is 1968 revisited. The liberal left loved that year, but it was hell. The culture went crazy and way liberal in one year. In one year the country turned against the Government and the war in Vietnam, and therefore the solders, most who had no choice. In one year the music went from love tunes to hard rock and protest. In one year movies went from sex happening off stage to right in your face. In one year you went from story´s about love and getting married to women just being something to sleep with. And don´t get me started on those stupid min-skirts. I spent 5 years never bending over to pick anything up or worrying about the wind! And free love-bull-never works-always destroys the family and women. Somethings righted itself by the 80´s but much, much was lost.
Yes, it is 1968 all over again. A key similarity is that the msm forced/ is forcing its progressive meme on the citizens to try to get us to submit and give up our liberties. A key difference however, is that both political parties were somewhat functional in 1968 and their policies hadn´t had time to fully fail yet whereas today, both parties and their policies have failed and there is nothing left to bring the country forward.
For years I´ve been saying that between 1968 and 1972 the democrat party was taken over by people (marxists) who hate this country and the freedoms she stands for. To destroy it, they had to destroy the family and our culture. They have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. First legalizing the killing of babies, then promoting homosexuality as normal, Even ten years ago, who would have believed that men would be given the right to use women´s restrooms and dressing rooms? That sex is ´fluid´? That one day one could say they were a woman and the next say they were a man. That someone could be jailed for using the wrong pronoun to a ´gender fluid´ IT but not for deliberating giving someone AIDS?
I´m not so sure about that. Yes, we´re still involved in Afghanistan (in smaller numbers than the 500,000+ troops we had in Vietnam in 1968, a much more divisive involvement), but no religious or political figures of the stature of MLK Jr or Bobby Kennedy have been assassinated, major cities haven´t been put on curfew or aren´t burning because of riots (only portions of Progressive-led cities by a relatively small number of Antifa malcontents - things are relatively calm and quiet in Republican-controlled cities or states), the Nat´l Guard isn´t out (yet) patrolling or shooting protesting university students.
I think the political, cultural and social atmosphere is better than it was in 1968 (I was 12 then.)
The media only want us to believe it´s that bad now. We´re not as innocent as we were - we only had three major TV networks lying to us - and we lacked the ability to instantaneously find out for ourselves if they, politicians and the military were misleading us. With New Media such as the Internet, Twitter, Instagram we are better informed and prepared to confront the lies.
BOTH political parties are unraveling (the GOP much slower) but DemoRATS are faring much worse. The GOP controls 33 states to the DemoRATS 5 or 6.
The end result for DemoRATS will be uglier. They know they´re bleeding their traditional special interest constituencies (as well as losing political power) and that´s why they´re angry and causing mayhem and confusion. They believe the solution is to continue turning Hard Left Socialist and they´re being enabled and assisted by the media and Hollywood.
FTA: The smears “racist,” “fascist,” “white privilege,” and “Nazi” — like “Commie” of the 1950s — are so overused as to become meaningless. There is now less free speech on campus than during the McCarthy era of the early 1950s.
As a retired Marine I have a had a tough month after watching the Ken Burns Vietnam series which glorified the Anti war movement and the damage it and JFK/LBJ did to this country. 1968 is indeed a year that help destroy this country.
Yes 1968 was tumultuous. From the USS Pueblo seizure to the all the events in the interim prior to the election of Nixon. But 1969 was fairly momentous as well. The Manson Family. The Moon Landing. The Joe Namath Jets and the Miracle Mets. Woodstock and Altamont. Cappaquiddick. The first draft lottery. The Days of Rage. Hurricane Camille.
In my humble opinion, and no disrespect to Dr. Hanson, the events of the last couple of years pale in contrast but seem more consequential because the media megaphone is so much louder and pervasive than at the end of the 60s.
Mark Penn, a pollster and former chief strategist for the Clintons, said Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the FBI are facing a "crisis in public confidence." On "The Story" Thursday night, Penn pointed to a recent Harvard CAPS-Harris poll that found 63 percent of voters believe that the FBI has been resisting providing information to Congress on the Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump investigations. 54 percent said Mueller has conflicts of interest that prevent him from doing an unbiased job. Penn noted that those numbers do not reflect recent revelations about Mueller´s Russia probe, including that a top FBI official,
The trailer for Clint Eastwood´s new film about the 2015 French train attack has been released - starring the real American heroes who helped thwart the attack. The 15:17 to Paris is based on a book the three Americans - Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone - wrote about the attack, with the help of writer Jeffrey E. Stern. When Eastwood originally took on the project, he was looking to hire actors to play the threesome - but at the last minute it was decided that the men would play themselves. (Video/Photos) None of three have acting experience, but it doesn´t
Some of Hollywood’s biggest left-wing stars, including Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jane Fonda, and HBO host Bill Maher have donated to a political committee called Flip the 49th! Neighbors in Action — a campaign to unseat Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) in next year’s election. According to a list of donors obtained by The San Diego Union-Tribune, Fonda gave the group $100,000. Maher contributed $15,000. DiCaprio dished out $2,500 and Cheers alum Ted Danson dolled out $1,500. The list also includes a $2,500 donation from the JDM Foundation, an organization the Union-Tribune notes is funded mostly by its founder,
Kimberly Guilfoyle said new revelations about James Comey’s draft statement on the Hillary Clinton email probe show that the former FBI director "overstepped his bounds." Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, released copies Thursday of the edits to Comey’s highly scrutinized July 2016 statement. The document shows line-by-line edits, including "grossly negligent" being downgraded to "extremely careless." It also shows a change from saying it is “reasonably likely” to merely "possible" that “hostile actors” gained access to then-Secretary of State Clinton’s private email account. "What it looks like is they actually tried to tip the

WASHINGTON— Senate Republicans rushed toward votes next week on their sweeping $1.5 trillion tax package, hopeful ailing Sens. John McCain and Thad Cochran will be back and well enough to cast their votes. The 81-year-old McCain is at a local military hospital being treated for the side effects of brain cancer treatment. The 80-year-old Cochran had a non-melanoma lesion removed from his nose earlier this week. Both men missed all Senate votes this week, but their presence will be crucial early next week as the GOP tries to pass the tax bill in the Senate with a razor-thin Republican majority of 52-48
The paper used during President Trump’s ceremony and photo opportunity Thursday, demonstrating how much federal regulations have increased since 1960, were all reportedly blank sheets of paper. Trump cut red tape attached to two piles of paper: one symbolizing regulations that were in place in 1960 and the other regulations that exist today. The pile representing regulations from 1960 consisted of approximately 20,000 sheets of paper, while the pile representing today’s regulations consisted of more than 185,000. "We´re going to cut a ribbon because we´re getting back below the 1960 level, and we´ll be there fairly quickly," Trump said at
One of the youngest survivors of last month’s Sutherland Springs church shooting is requesting holiday cards be sent to him this Christmas as he continues to recover from the deadliest mass shooting in Texas history. Ryland Ward, 5, does not yet know that his stepmother and two sisters were among the 26 killed in the Nov. 5 massacre at First Baptist Church, The Star-Telegram reported. The boy was shot five times in the elbow, stomach and leg, and is having issues with his kidney and a shattered femur. Doctors are hopeful that he can head home in six to eight
Melania Trump wowed classic black cocktail dress while posing alongside her husband for their first official Christmas portrait as president and first lady. The Trumps´ 2017 Christmas portrait was revealed on Melania´s Twitter page on Thursday afternoon — and the festive photo sees the president flashing an uncharacteristically bright smile. According to the tweet, Andrea Hanks photographed President Trump and his wife on December 5 in the Cross Hall of the White House. (Photo/Tweet) For the special occasion, Melania opted for a sleeveless Delpozo dress featuring a sparkling applique and a pair of classic black pumps. She wore her highlighted
Thursday on ABC’s Good Morning America, former reality-TV star and White House staffer Omarosa Manigault said she will tell her story about what she observed during her time in the White House that “upset” her.Manigault said, “There were a lot of things that I observed during the last year that I was very unhappy with, that I was very uncomfortable with, things that I observed, that I heard, that I listened to.” She continued, “I can’t expand upon it because I have to go back and work with these individuals. But when I have a chance to tell my story,
Maybe tomorrow he´ll blame the Russians.Anderson Cooper and CNN came up with an absolutely hilarious explanation for a pretty vicious anti-Trump tweet posted on Wednesday on his personal Twitter feed. For background, here´s what happened first: President Trump sent out a tweet on Wednesday. (Tweet) A few minutes later, a reply was posted on Cooper´s Twitter account (and later deleted). “Oh Really? You endorsed him you tool! Pathetic loser," the post said."Tool"? "Loser"? Not exactly the words of America´s best newsman, are they? Then Cooper posted this: (Tweet) So, he was hacked. Or that was the implication, anyway.
Senator John McCain’s health appears to be taking a turn for the worst, say sources close to the Arizona lawmaker. In July, McCain was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.“The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4 percent,” reports Tucson.com. (Photo) CNN reports: Sources in the Senate tell CNN they have been worried about Sen. John McCain recently, following a week when the Arizona Republican was kept from the Senate to address side effects from his brain cancer treatment. The sources described McCain as looking increasingly frail and said
On Tuesday, Democrat Doug Jones pulled off a stunning victory over Republican Roy Moore in Alabama. The race went down to the wire, but the Democrat prevailed. Here are five things to know about why Jones won, why Moore lost, and what it means for the future of the U.S. Senate and both parties. 1. Character matters. According to NBC News exit polls, 49 percent of Alabama voters thought the sexual assault accusations against Roy Moore were "definitely" or "probably" true. Republicans and Democrats split on partisan lines — a whopping 82 percent of Republicans said the allegations were "probably" or "definitely" false,
A professor at Boston University has proclaimed Christmas carol favorite “Jingle Bells” to be a “racist song” and is urging people to shun the jaunty tune. Kyna Hamill, a theater history professor at Boston University, recently told the Boston Globe that the venerable Christmas song has a “secret” racist past that has been “systematically” hidden from Americans as they celebrate the Christmas season. “The history of the song has remained hidden behind its local and season affection,” Hamill told the paper. She continued saying the song’s “blackface and racist origins have been subtly and systematically removed from its history.” (Tweet/Video) Hamill
Former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder threatened Republicans in Congress against removing Special Counsel Robert Mueller the day after GOP congressmen grilled Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein over Mueller stacking his team of Trump investigators with Hillary Clinton donors and lawyers. Holder issued his threat in a tweet Wednesday morning. Eric Holder, image via screengrab. “Speaking on behalf of the vast majority of the American people, Republicans in Congress be forewarned:any attempt to remove Bob Mueller will not be tolerated. These are BS attacks on him/his staff that are blatantly political-designed to hide the real wrongdoing. Country not party”
Alabama is one of the most reliably Republican states in the country. The last time a Democrat was elected was in 1992, and no Democrat has won more than 40 percent of the vote in a Senate race there since 1996. The closest election in recent memory was in 2002, when Jeff Sessions won re-election by a razor-thin margin of 19 points. Sen. Richard Shelby has won his last three elections by 35 points, 30 points and 28 points, respectively. So it takes a special kind of stupid to pick a candidate who can lose to a Democrat in Alabama.
Scandal: For 18 months, the FBI has been fixated on determining whether President Trump worked with Russia to influence the 2016 election. But explosive text exchanges between top FBI agents suggest it should be looking in the mirror. The text messages sent between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, which became public on Wednesday, provide a rare and illuminating window into just how rabidly partisan putatively nonpartisan law enforcement officials can be. In the exchanges, they called Trump an "idiot," a "loathsome human," an "enormous do-che," and said "this man cannot be president." When not berating Trump, they were praising Hillary Clinton. In one
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders trolled April Ryan with a homemade pecan pie on Wednesday evening and it was glorious. (Photos) The Gateway Pundit’s Kristinn Taylor previously reported, April Ryan, White House reporter for American Urban Radio networks and CNN analyst, demanded President Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders provide proof she baked a pie she tweeted a photo of on Thanksgiving Day. April Ryan demanded, “Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it.” So that’s exactly what fearless warrior Sarah Sanders did Wednesday evening! Sarah Sanders
MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski is still fired up about President Trump’s tweet mocking Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and took her frustrations out on first lady Melania Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump. “[Trump] should have apologized for being a sexist pig,” Brzezinski said. “And the women around him, his wife, who has a platform against cyber bullying, that’s a joke. That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.” Brzezinski then shifted her attention to Ivanka Trump, “Who came to Washington… to develop a platform for women,” but has stood by her father. “Go home. You’re doing nothing if you stand
Spirits were high inside the House chamber on Thursday, November 16, when, in the early afternoon, the gavel fell and a measure to rewrite the American tax code passed on a partisan tally of 227 to 205. As the deciding votes were cast—recorded in green on the black digital scoreboard suspended above the floor—the speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, threw his head back and slammed his hands together. Soon he was engulfed in a sea of dark suits, every Republican lawmaker wanting to slap him on the shoulder and be a part of his moment. Ryan was the man of
Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee took to Twitter on Tuesday night to offer congratulations and her explanation, for why Doug Jones won the Alabama Senate election.Instead, she ended up extending congratulations to someone called “Doug Moore,” while referencing NFL anthem-kneelers: (Tweet) Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in a shocking, upset victory on Tuesday night, becoming the first Democrat to represent Alabama in the Senate since 1996. Lee has embraced the anthem protest issue in the past, most notably by kneeling on the floor of the House of Representatives.“I kneel in honor of them.
Democrats´ shocking victory in the Alabama Senate special election undoubtedly has raised their potential list of seats they might win. If they can win in the Deep South, they can win anywhere. High on the list of reach targets is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is up for re-election in 2018. Hillary Clinton did quite well in Texas, only losing by 9 points (better than she did in Iowa) — as compared to nearly 28 points in Alabama. What´s more, Democrats have a solid candidate in the form of Rep. Beto O´Rourke from El Paso. It is true, of course,
First, as the week began, came news of an attempted Islamic terrorist attack at New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal…and next came everything we needed to know about the Mainstream News Media, which has once again, or finally become a punch line and a laughingstock. We need to exclude Fox News from that leftist cabal. Only Fox News still gives it mostly straight up, mostly fair and balanced. That same evening, visiting family when the Network News just came on, my son said, “Dad, which do you want first, the anti-cop story, the anti-Israel story, or the anti-Trump story?” That was ABC,
The drama between Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and President Donald Trump has reached absurd heights. First, there was that rather tweet from the president, which was not out of the ordinary. He accused Gillibrand of doing “anything” for campaign contributions. Gillibrand said this was a sexist smear, despite the president using that line on pretty much everyone. This all is part of the ongoing sexual harassment reckoning on the Hill and elsewhere. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) is gone, and Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) has signaled his intention to leave…whenever that may be. Gillibrand has called on Trump to resign, as
