LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. — The owner of the nation´s last Howard Johnson restaurant has been charged with sexually abusing or harassing more than a dozen female employees of his upstate New York business. The Warren County Sheriff´s Deputy announced Wednesday that 65-year-old Jonathan LaRock was arrested on charges of sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies say the investigation started last week after a 17-year-old girl told police she had been sexually harassed by LaRock while working at his eatery in Lake George, a popular Adirondack tourist destination 55 miles (88 kilometers) north of Albany. This made me remember: In the early 90s I bought a restaurant that had closed when the older owner died. I bought it to tear it down and expand a parking lot. In the tear-down process we found a dozen cameras hidden in the ladies restroom in various spots, all wired into the owners office. That old man had been watching women in the john, probably for years.

American soldiers in Niger

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson has come up with a new gimmick for getting invited on CNN. After exploiting the death of one soldier killed in an attack in Niger, she decided that if exploiting one soldier made her famous, exploiting the deaths of all the soldiers would make her even more famous. Wilson has taken to calling the attack, “Mr. Trump’s Benghazi.” And she’s close. American soldiers died in Niger for the same reasons that Americans died in Benghazi. Both were fallout from the Arab Spring. It wasn’t President Trump who deployed our soldiers to Niger. That was Obama’s doing. Congresswoman Wilson complained that

WASHINGTON – Sen. The Senate passed a budget on Thursday that could pave the way for drilling in the refuge since it requests that the Energy and Natural Resources Committee craft a bill intended to raise $1 billion in revenue over the next decade from oil

Jimmy Carter tells Maureen Dowd “I would go” to North Korea to negotiate with Kim Jong Un. Apparently, he has told the Trump administration, via its national security adviser H.R. McMaster, the same thing. So far, says Carter, the response has been negative. Carter doubts that China can help rein in North Korea. The Chinese have no relationship with Kim Jong Un, he explains. Carter doesn’t either. However, he has a relationship with the dictator’s grandfather. In 1994, he negotiated a disastrous deal with the regime and managed to foist it on President Clinton. The current crisis is the fruit of that deal. I’m

I arrived at my house in France recently to find the roses eaten by deer and a drystone wall damaged by wild boar in their eagerness to get at the hollyhocks. One of the bedrooms, moreover, smelled of mice. Is nothing sacred to Nature? This year we had already had a plague of moths whose caterpillars specialize in destroying box bushes. They were very thorough, I will say that for them: Not a single leaf of a single bush remained. The moth into which the caterpillars developed had cream-colored wings with a gold fringe; rather beautiful when taken individually, but not

According to Gallup the US military enjoys the public highest confidence among American institutions. The controversy arising from president Trump´s handling of casualties returned from Africa may change that. Coming on the heels of the discredit of other institutions the impending dust-up depressingly recalls Ian Fleming´s adage: “once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action”. But New Yorker´s Masha Gessen´s response to John Kelly´s defense of president Trump is blithe and illustrates the tone the debate may take. "Consider this nightmare scenario: a military coup. You don’t have to strain your imagination—all you have to do is watch

The Global Failure of Globalization

“We cannot allow to fall back into pre-globalization times,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned. Merkel was welcoming Obama back to Berlin for the last time. The election had been fought and won nine days earlier. And Obama and Merkel were defending globalism against President-elect Trump. To Merkel and Obama, returning to pre-globalization times was every bit as mad as going back to the caves. Globalization had become synonymous with civilization. And its prophets, like Thomas Friedman, traced back its rise to the fall of the Berlin Wall in the city where Merkel and Obama were chatting. But globalization didn’t bring down the Berlin

The Frederica Wilson affair may finally be waning. President Trump’s critics are reduced to noting that, at an event celebrating fallen FBI agents, the wannabe “rock star” didn’t grandstand by claiming credit for funding the building named after the heroes, as Gen. Kelly remembered. Instead, she grandstanded by claiming credit for getting the building named for them. The anti-Trumpers need to take a piece out of Kelly because he is able to speak up effectively for President Trump. Thus, as Charles Blow of the New York Times says, Kelly is “VERY dangerous.” Whether they can accomplish this based on Kelly’s confusion

I do, on the other hand, very much like many of the things Trump has accomplished: the great judicial nominations, the taming of the regulatory state, the restoration of the rule of law at the border, leaving the silly Paris accord, the annihilation of ISIS, the attempts to hurry the implosion of Obamacare by suspending utterly illegal payments to insurance companies, calling out the

TAMPA — A claim of obesity won´t shave time off a Tampa man´s prison sentence. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday on Friday declined to reduce the 76-month term he imposed Oct. 12 on Stephen Donaldson Sr., 72, for peddling an illegal offshore tax shelter. On Monday, Donaldson´s attorney suggested his client, at 5-foot-9 and 273 pounds, was too fat for his prison sentence, given the likely effect of weight on his health and longevity. "As an obese male, his life expectancy can expect to be substantially reduced," attorney Curtis Fallgatter wrote in a motion, asking the judge to "correct" the sentence.

The business decision of the NFL to isolate and ridicule well over half of their fan (customer) base will easily, very easily, go down in history as the most stunningly stupid decision in the history of any American business enterprise. The vast majority of NFL fans held a middle-class, center-right, common sense, and patriotic outlook toward sports and entertainment overall. In essence most of the NFL fan base are/were positively MAGA-minded. It reflects the profound disconnect between the corporation and their customer base that the NFL didn’t recognize the danger in making social justice causes part of their business enterprise. Let’s put the Uranium One scandal in perspective: The cool half-million bucks the Putin regime funneled to Bill Clinton was five times the amount it spent on those Facebook ads — the ones the media-Democrat complex ludicrously suggests swung the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump. The Facebook-ad buy, which started in June 2015 — before Donald Trump entered the race — was more left-wing agitprop (ads pushing hysteria on racism, immigration, guns, etc.) than electioneering. The Clintons’ own long-time political strategist Mark Penn estimates that just $6,500 went to actual electioneering. (You read that right: 65 hundred dollars.) By

n Monday, Sen. John McCain denounced President Trump’s philosophy, agenda, and conduct. On Thursday, former President George W. Bush did the same thing. Neither mentioned Trump by name, but their target was clear. They echoed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who spoke out against Trump last year. These three indictments, issued by the men who represented the GOP in the four elections leading up to Trump’s, are more than ghosts of a dead party. They point toward an alternative vision of conservatism.

The major developing stories this week have been so scantily and poorly covered in the mainstream press that you may want an easy primer. To fully understand it you have to look at alternative media because just as Harvey Weinstein counted on complicit enablers -- his colleagues, victims and the press -- Hillary Clinton, Robert Mueller and a cast of characters, including a press determined to cover for them have hidden what occurred. It’s taken some time, to be sure, but the evidence of their wrongdoing is becoming harder and harder to hide. Stalling and misdirection are their last redoubt.
