Hollywood Homicide: 108 Automatic Weapons
Blaze Away in 4 Top Movies

Last week Stephen Paddock killed at least 59 Las Vegas concert-goers using automatic weapons. Reportedly aided by “bump stocks” that made his semi-automatic rifles into automatic weapons, his killing spree was the worst in U.S. history. People were understandably horrified that he was able to fire what amounted to machine guns into a crowd. Yet similar weapons were being fired in movie theaters around the country. Three of the top five movies at the box office featured characters blasting away with automatic weapons. Two -- Kingsman: Golden Circle and American Assassin -- included so many examples of such violence that

When I grew up we were watching Combat, 12 O´CLock High, The Lone Ranger and for goodness sake all those Westerns TV and movies. We didn´t get inspired to commit mayhem by the movies, TV or the guns in the house that the dad´s brought home from the big one.

Funny thing though, most of us grew up with a parent at home. Those who didn´t lived in a community influenced and molded by those who did. We went to Sunday school and Boy Scouts and or Girl Scouts or Camp Fire Girls, Indian Guides etc.

I don´t blame guns video games or movies. I blame the break down of the family unit. I trace the cause to our decision to pay people to break up their families, add more illegitimate children to get paid more and sit on their keesters with no worries for essential clothing food and shelter. The families not prone to sit at home on the dole had to pay for those who did and found that to sustain the "American dream" they couldn´t afford for a parent to stay home.

Blaming Hollywood is as useless as blaming inanimate bits of hardware.

These Hollywood liberals keep calling for gun control. Congress should say ok we´ll give you gun control. Violent movies cause violence so we will make it illegal to display guns in movies. That will shut them up.

I don´t buy into the notion that violent movies "instruct" us in violence... at least for the vast majority of well-adjusted viewers. (There will always be a few particularly-impressionable adolescents who might take a cue... I doubt 64-year-old Paddock decided to kill a bunch of innocents because of his exposure to movies.)

We DO tend to get desensitized to things we see over and over.

However, all the Hollywood violence DOES put the purveyors into an awkward situation. Having Weinstein go after the NRA is kinda like Algore (with his private jet and $36k residential utility bill) lecture us about our evil carbon-burning ways.

Whether we see guns in movies or TV or see the nightly news, we are each responsible for our actions. Guns don´t automatically shoot bullets while placed on a table or in a drawer. Our society is crumbling around us and the idiots who think gun control will stop the killings are responsible for the shootings.

I don’t have a problem with guns in movies. I do have a problem with actors who make gazillions firing guns in movies who then turn around and demand gun control for law abiding citizens.

I used to love NCIS but Mark Harmon is a big gun control guy. Has there ever been an episode in which he didn’t fire a gun?

While visiting Hillsdale College this week, I was unexpectedly bequeathed a gift. When I arrived at the house where I am staying I discovered on the buffet table in the kitchen a small collection of books on military history, grand strategy, and World War II. Among them was the bound galley of Victor Davis Hanson´s The Second World Wars, published Tuesday by Basic Books. Having heard advance praise for the book, I picked up the hefty galley. I have not put it down since. Most surveys of the global conflagration between September 1939 and September 1945 are chronological. They begin

Virtually every chance House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has had to dispel her reputation as a delusional, establishment hack completely out-of-touch with reality, she always finds some way to reveal that she really is a delusional, establishment hack completely out-of-touch with reality. Her latest guffaw occurred during her appearance on Friday´s The View where she denied America is in a culture war and that Democrats have division in their ranks. First topic of conversation was the despicable non-controversy cooked up by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson alleging that Trump treated a Gold Star widow disrespectfully over the phone; Pelosi called Wilson a

A little-known adviser on the Trump campaign is a “person of interest” in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the presidential campaign. North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, the chairman of the Senate panel, told BuzzFeed that George Papadopoulos, a short-lived member of the campaign’s foreign policy team, is “definitely a person of interest” in the committee’s probe. Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, the Democratic vice chairman of the committee, echoed Burr’s statement, saying that the committee hopes to interview Papadopoulos, who was an adviser to Ben Carson’s campaign before joining the Trump team last March. Former President George W. Bush emerged from retirement on Thursday to stage a broad attack on President Donald Trump and the movement that supports him. Without mentioning Trump by name, Bush accused him of “casual cruelty” in political discourse, of distorting nationalism into “nativism,” and of emboldening bigotry and white supremacy. He called for a renewed commitment to American global leadership and domestic citizenship. It was a call to national unity — against Trump and his supporters, who were reduced to labels and caricatures: “protectionism,” “isolationist sentiments,” and the like. “Too often, we judge other groups by their worst examples

One thing that’s been an absolute staple of Fox News’ programming during the Age of Trump has been a heavy criticism of the mainstream media’s coverage. With the president spending much of his time complaining about “fake news” in response to reporting he doesn’t like, the network’s opinion hosts and commentators have parroted POTUS’s attacks and devoted segments to hammering other outlets. In an interview with the Associated Press this week, Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace put his colleagues on blast over their penchant for discrediting the press. By chance, Bush was standing in the same spot at the Time Warner Center where former President Barack Obama made a similar plea for democracy and American leadership in late September, shortly after President Donald Trump had finished a belligerent, isolationist speech to the United Nations
