On Tuesday the New Yorker published Ronan Farrow’s expose of Harvey Weinstein, describing in detail the famous Hollywood producer’s long history of sexual abuse and assaults of actresses and other women in the movie industry. Coming on the heels of a New York Times article published last Thursday about Weinstein, the Farrow article seems to clinch the case against a major figure in the world of entertainment, media, and politics. The question is why, after years of protecting Weinstein, did the American press publish two pieces about him in less than a week? Was it because after stories detailing the sex
Very interesting article about the swamp. Well worth reading completely. You should not just read the headline and post your opinion. Farrow took on a story where there had been rumors for decades. Many other swamp creatures blinked. Sometimes it takes a person who has been personally harmed by the actions of a person, a corporation or a government agency to go after a story, ignore the threats and stay true to the truth! Congratulations to Farrow.
Very good article. Sex abuse cuts deep for Ronan Farrow and with good reason. I am not a serial boycotter, but I will not watch anything directed by Roman Polanski or Woody Allan. Weinstein produced some movies I like. I am happy he is out of the entertainment business and if for some reason he comes back, I will not go to one of his movies. He´s a creep.
Ronan Farrow´s expose of Harvey Weinstein is investigative journalism. While not great or compelling writing, Farrow accurately reveals a monster of a man. Harvey Weinstein is everything that the very politicians for whom Weinstein was the go to guy for 25 years, have described as the perpetrators of the War on Women. Powerful, vindictive, coarse, it would be a euphemism to describe Weinstein as bullish, or even piggish. He is a monster. And everyone who´s anyone in Hollywood or New York has known this, or had heard stories about it, for decades.
After the Hive resisted publicizing Weinstein´s little libido leakage--he was a major Democrat bundler who threw lavish parties, after all--Ronan Farrow´s article ripped the scab off this seedy story. I agree with Lee Smith that Farrow is practically the only one related to the press who comes out of this mess looking good. And I think I understand why Farrow might have wanted to break this story.
FTA: The Weinstein story is not about the heroic media finally rising to the occasion and bringing down a bad guy. Rather, it’s a story about the stench of corruption and decay arising from the grave of the institutional press.
That´s true. Sustaining a Narrative matters more to these people than accurately and honestly reporting the news. That´s why they´re steadily losing their audience.
And yes, Ronan Farrow just has to be the scion of Sinatra, not of Woody, whom he deeply despises. His mother Mia practically admitted it.
Lifson at American Thinker put his finger on why Weinstein was taken down.
He revered Israel and their willingness to fight for their rights, and he was planning a movie about the Warsaw ghetto uprising where a few dozen handguns and rifles were used by embattled Jews to hold off the Nazis and prevent many deaths, even when surrounded and trapped in a hopeless situation.
Supporting Israel is a serious crime to the NYT, but showing that a few ordinary guns in the hands of civilians can provide serious pushback against tyrannical government troops is absolutely unacceptable to the fascist left who sees their future as an iron fisted ruling class after they disarm American citizens.
Weinstein was about to blow up their "you can´t protect yourself, you need the government to protect you, so you don´t need guns" lies in a very public and enduring way and that had to be stopped.
As far as Farrow, don´t know a lot but he strikes me as a effeminate lightweight, typical Hollyweird male.
Agreed. He has turned out to be an excellent investigative reporter. Others would have cracked under the intimidation and threats. But he had a Hollywood name and grew up with creepy Woody Allen. He knew the damage that was done, how dangerous the powerful can be and he stuck with it. He persisted.
Russell Simmons has put his #NotMe campaign on ice, Page Six has exclusively learned. After the mogul’s fiery crusade to clear his name over sexual misconduct allegations went mysteriously quiet, his reps told us that Simmons had instead decided “that this is a time for women to speak.” In November and December, the Def Jam co-founder was accused of various forms of sexual misconduct — including rape and attempted rape — by some 13 women. Although he stepped down from his businesses, Simmons said on Instagram that he was committed to proving his innocence. On Dec. 14, he wrote, “Today, I begin
It’s February 2021, just a few weeks into the Oprah Winfrey Administration, and, far from healing America’s divides, it turns out that President Winfrey has only deepened them. Hundreds of thousands of Americans who had voted to re-elect President Trump take to the streets in mass protests in dozens of American cities, wearing white “Keep America Great” hats, carrying “resist!” signs, and driving pickup trucks with gun racks and bumper stickers that say “not my president.” These volunteer activists push Republican Congressmen and senators to vote against every single one of Ms. Winfrey’s cabinet nominees and judicial picks — even the
While Washington obsesses over a new book on White House intrigue, the Trump administration is reaching a critical point on the issue of immigration, one of the president´s top priorities and the subject of his most often-repeated campaign promises. There are multiple moving parts: DACA, a border wall, chain migration, the visa lottery, and — hanging over it all — funding the government. But everything hinges on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, unilaterally imposed by Barack Obama to temporarily legalize nearly 800,000 people who were brought to the U.S. illegally when they were young. When President Trump rescinded DACA
President Donald Trump´s son, Donald Trump Jr., slammed his father´s former White House aide and campaign chairman Steve Bannon on Wednesday after outrageous remarks that Bannon made in a book became public. In the book, Bannon told author Michael Wolff that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation would “crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.” Bannon added that the meeting between Trump Jr. and the Russian lawyer was "treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad s***.” Trump Jr. hit back at Bannon following the revelation of his remarks in the book, landing multiple punches on Bannon, who is rapidly becoming an annoyance to
The veteran journalist Michael Wolff set off a bomb yesterday in the middle of Trumpworld when details emerged from his new inside-the-White-House book, “Fire and Fury.” In the Guardian, the world read with dropped jaw about how former chief strategist Steve Bannon used the words “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” to describe Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russians in July 2016 and said there was “zero” chance the son hadn’t brought the Russians to meet his father. This meeting is a key event in the so-called “Russian collusion” timeline the president and his supporters say was a meaningless dead end. Then an excerpt from
Washington -President Donald Trump warned North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday that he has a nuclear "button" on his desk at all times and boasted that the US has "much bigger & more powerful" nuclear weapons -- a stunning threat that has once again raised questions over what it takes to actually launch a nuclear warhead. "North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ´Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.´ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much
Among the many things he’s been called — “blunt,” “pathetic,” “calculating” — the one thing Michael Wolff has never been described as is boring. A provocateur and media polemicist, Wolff has a penchant for stirring up an argument and pushing the facts as far as they’ll go, and sometimes further than they can tolerate, according to his critics. He has been accused of not just re-creating scenes in his books and columns, but of creating them wholesale. That’s some context for Wolff’s most explosive bit of reporting to date: A scathing new book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” describing
On the afternoon of November 8, 2016, Kellyanne Conway settled into her glass office at Trump Tower. Right up until the last weeks of the race, the campaign headquarters had remained a listless place. All that seemed to distinguish it from a corporate back office were a few posters with right-wing slogans. Conway, the campaign’s manager, was in a remarkably buoyant mood, considering she was about to experience a resounding, if not cataclysmic, defeat. Donald Trump would lose the election — of this she was sure — but he would quite possibly hold the defeat to under six points. That
The federal grand jury handing down indictments for special counsel Robert Mueller doesn’t appear to include any supporters of President Donald Trump, according to one witness who recently testified before the panel. “The grand jury room looks like a Bernie Sanders rally,” my source said. “Maybe they found these jurors in central casting, or at a Black Lives Matter rally in Berkeley [Calif.]” Of the 20 jurors, 11 are African-Americans and two were wearing “peace T-shirts,” the witness said. “There was only one white male in the room, and he was a prosecutor.” Mueller was not present. The Washington, DC, grand jury, which
Anthony Scaramucci is insisting that the recent reports about him are not true and that he’s not about to get a new job in the White House. “The Mooch” claims to speak with Donald Trump on a regular basis, and according to The Daily Beast, the former communications director recently told friends that the president misses having him in the West Wing. These associates told the news outlet that it seems like Scaramucci believes he will soon get another whack at a career in Trumpworld. The Daily Beast noted that there was a lot of skepticism of Scaramucci’s supposed claims
Heartbroken pals of a Scarsdale teen killed with his parents and two brothers in a fiery Costa Rican plane crash made a grim pilgrimage to the tragic family’s home Monday to try to work through their grief. Jonah Gray, 18, was best friends with middle child William Steinberg, also 18, since both were 2. Gray recalled how they watched “Thomas the Train” and played with Legos before moving on to “The Family Guy” and varsity tennis at Scarsdale High School and basketball at the Westchester Reform Temple. “For the first time in my life, I feel like an adult —
Way back when I worked as a columnist for The New York Sun, (2007) I kept getting a call from a mysterious man who insisted on meeting me in person. He told me I was referred by a writer who writes for the New York Times and that he wanted to give me an important story. I checked out the writer who confirmed that she felt the Sun would be a better fit --- in other words, this was not something the Times would be interested in but she thought it was worth exploring. Actually the truth was the NY Times wasn´t
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said Friday she will not attend President Trump’s first State of the Union address following his vulgar remarks aimed at Haiti, El Salvador and African nations. “Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar?” Waters said on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes.” “Someone who lies in the face of facts, someone who can change their tune day in and day out. What does he have to say that I would be interested in?" (Snip) Waters is the third Democratic lawmaker to announce they won’t attend Trump’s address, which
A Civil Defense employee is set to be retrained after a shocking blunder on Saturday morning, when a mistaken alert warning of an inbound ballistic missile sent thousands fleeing for shelter. The false alarm was caused by a Hawaii Emergency Management Agency employee who ´pushed the wrong buttons´ during an internal drill timed to coincide with a shift handover at 8.07am. The all-clear phone alert was not sent until 38 minutes later. Incredibly, officials said the employee who made the mistake wasn´t aware of it until mobile phones in the command center began displaying the alert. ´This guy feels bad,
Chelsea Manning, the former US army soldier jailed for giving sensitive documents to WikiLeaks, has filed documents to run for the US Senate, the Washington Post reported. Ms Manning, a former intelligence expert previously known as Bradley Manning, was released from military prison in 2017 after Barack Obama waived her sentence. The 30-year-old would be taking on the incumbent Ben Cardin, a 74-year-old Democrat who has held the seat for more than a decade.Miss Manning was arrested in May 2010, while serving with the US army in Iraq, after she confessed to a computer hacker, Adrian Lamo, that she was
Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump´s former top strategist, alleged in journalist Michael Wolff´s tell-all book about the Trump White House that the president´s longtime attorney, Marc Kasowitz, "took care" of 100 women during the presidential campaign. "Look, Kasowitz has known [Trump] for twenty-five years. Kasowitz has gotten him out of all kinds of jams," Bannon reportedly said. "Kasowitz on the campaign — what did we have, a hundred women? Kasowitz took care of all of them."
Michelle Obama and her eldest daughter Malia made a rare appearance in swimsuits as they are enjoying the sun in Miami. The mother and 19-year-old daughter were spotted walking off Miami Beach on Saturday surrounded by friends - including former Obama administration senior advisor Valerie Jarrett - and Secret Service personnel.Michelle, 53, looked sensational in a white bikini top matched with high-waisted white denim cut-off shorts as she trudged her way barefoot through the sand, holding her shoes in one hand.
Lots of the news from sub-Saharan Africa is about war, famine, poverty or political upheaval. So it’s understandable if many Americans think most Africans who immigrate to the United States are poorly educated and desperate. Research tells another story. While many are refugees, large numbers are beneficiaries of the diversity-visa program aimed at boosting immigration from underrepresented nations. And on average, African immigrants are better educated than people born in the U.S. or the immigrant population as a whole.
Former president Barack Obama said he was a wreck when he dropped his daughter Malia off at Harvard University. The 44th commander-in-chief discussed move-in day when he appeared as the first guest on David Letterman´s new Netflix talk show ´My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman´.Obama then described how he speaks with the 19-year-old regularly because he´s ´pathetic´.Letterman´s interview with Obama marked the former president´s first television talk show appearance since he left office in January 2017. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump´s White House physician declared him in "excellent health" after the president received his first medical checkup at Walter Reed military hospital on Friday, undergoing a physical examination amid suggestions in a recent book and by his detractors that he´s mentally unfit. Dr. Ronny Jackson, in a statement released by the White House, said the examination "went exceptionally well. The President is in excellent health and I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday." Trump spent about three hours at the medical facility in Bethesda, Maryland, outside Washington, for the Friday afternoon checkup,
A lawyer for President Trump reportedly arranged a $130,000 payment to a former porn star just weeks before the 2016 presidential election to stay quiet about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump. People familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal that Trump’s longtime lawyer Michael Cohen arranged a payment to Stephanie Clifford in October 2016 during negotiations of a nondisclosure agreement. Clifford, 38, has told people privately that she had a sexual encounter with Trump after they met in July 2006 in Lake Tahoe. Trump married his wife, Melania, in 2005. Trump denied all allegations of
Shortly after winning the election, President Trump told the New York Times that he probably would not make good on his promise to pursue a new criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s many shady deals, from her email server to her campaign apparatus to her and Bill’s massive and well-connected foundation. Trump declared that further investigation would be “very, very divisive for the country.” Unfortunately for Hillary – and possibly for Bill as well – some things are beyond the control of even the most powerful man in the world. Some conservative members of Congress may force the Justice Department to take
As TGP’s Kristinn Taylor reported, the government of Hawaii scared the populace with a text message to cellphone users alerting them to an incoming ballistic missile. The alert was reportedly repeated on television broadcasts. It turned out to be be bogus.Hawaii has been on edge this year over North Korea’s threats to nuke the United States that have been backed up by missile and nuclear bomb tests. WASHINGTON -- The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee said today that they plan on introducing a censure resolution against President Trump for his reported comments about immigrants from certain countries. The Washington Post reported that Trump made the comment during a Thursday Oval Office meeting with immigration negotiators. “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, suggesting that more immigrants be brought into the country from places like Norway or Asia. “Why do we need more Haitians?” Trump reportedly said. “Take them out.” Trump tweeted this morning,
