Harvey Weinstein accusations
cause chaos in Hollywood

Hollywood is in chaos, and all because of one man: Harvey Weinstein. Multiple allegations of rape, sexual harassment and trading sex for movie roles have forced one of the most powerful men in show business out of his company and begging for help and forgiveness. But the ripples extending from the wake of Weinstein’s dramatic fall extend much further than his business and personal relationships and so far show no signs of abating. From the women he allegedly abused, to the associates who allegedly knew about his behavior all along but stayed silent, to the A-list actors and actresses who depend on him

My daughter worked in the movie business in PR about 10 years ago, when she was in her early 20´s. She was a bit star struck and was thrilled to have close and daily access to people like Johnny Depp (hot), Keira Knightly (serious eating disorder), Orlando Bloom (smelly), Kevin Spacey (hilarious) and Robert DiNiro ("Bob" to her). After about two years she moved on to less sexy areas of PR like real estate and medical technology because she began to see the entertainment business as vacuous. When this story broke, all she said was that Hollywood as a whole is filthy and disturbing, little more than a racket for powerful perverted men to use the vulnerable, ambitious, beautiful and callow without fear
of reprisal or prosecution. I personally have never been particularly enthralled by movies but if Hollywood is simply a huge brothel funded by movie profits no wonder the products are so bad.

I agree very much with the assessment that Hollywood has become a role model for our children. Probably even for some of us but have rehabilitated. I believe there is a much better role model but that is just me.

How can these Harvey Weinstein accusations cause chaos in Hollywood when it has been a chaotic climate since the beginning?

Couldn´t care less if all of "Hollywood" (in the many places it is located) met the same deserving fate as Sodom & Gomorrah. Couldn´t happen to a better crowd that worked hard to earn their fate and the wrath of God.

Hard to say which came first in this chicken/egg scenario. Do powerful men take advantage of sweet innocent women ... or do conniving women see the power and are drawn to it? No one yet has stated old, fat pock-marked Harvey ripped their clothes off or even drugged them like Cosby. Seems the ladies dropped their garments willingly ... or at least as a bribe that often worked!

Hollywood keeps braying about "their art". Seems to me we are witnessing the real art in Hollywood and that is the oldest profession in the world is alive and well and thriving in that community. Their sanctimonious rants on everything from weather to women´s rights is a joke. Who are they to lecture anyone on with their wrongheaded opinions. They have zero moral authority, but I´ll give them this, they have loud mouths and a whole lot of hubris. I seldom go to a movie and see no reason to alter that decision. Why put money in the pockets of pervers and sexual abusers? Ashley Judd is especially hypocritical with her cowardice in the face of real sexual abuse....some feminist. She is like all the others...willing to do whatever was necessary to get the right break.

condemn this type of behavior when we see it

Yes, because only when others are present and actually SEE a girl, against her wishes, watching Harvey Weinstein take a shower and when others actually SEE Harvey Weinstein try to force a young actress up to his hotel room, swearing by his children he´s not going to do something he´s used to like groping her breasts, THEN Ben and his ilk can condemn this behavior. Because of course until that happens, like Lanny Davis would say, "There is no POOF."

and help ensure there are more women in positions of power

Why? So women in power can force men to watch them take showers? Is it a given that ALL men in power merely want to take advantage of women and get away with it for years because people like Ben who KNEW it was happening would enable the behavior?

I get it Ben; because Harvey Weinstein was a KNOWN pervert and got away with being a KNOWN pervert by the Great Land of Pretend (including YOU), ALL men would do the same thing and only a woman in power would prevent it.

I was watching a report on the Weinstein situation yesterday and I was suddenly reminded of that deep cut track on the Eagles´ "Long Run" album called "The King of Hollywood." If they weren´t singing about Weinstein specifically, they were certainly singing about a predatory culture that has existed in the film industry for decades.

Let´s take a look. Is the decadence any different, less disgusting, or wide spread than it has been lo these many years in that beautiful place, "Hollywood"? So, what else is new? These people have been swapping wives and husbands, taking drugs, posturing for an admiring public, and covering up this kind of behavior since the days of Mac Sennett and Cecil B. DeMille.

Now, when the bloated carcass becomes available, who feasts on it like the carrion creatures that they are, the rest of the Hollywood elite. The Meryl Streeps, and the rest of the vultures who used to join in the "glamour" of this swolen pathetic former icon, Weinstein, now treat him like a pinata for the preservation of their own "star" status.

I haven´t seen a movie for more than 20 years so I don´t have a dog in this hunt. But let me add this one admonishment: A plague on ALL of your houses.

The ethanol lobby is talking tough and issuing ultimatums to the Trump White House. Its message, in brief, is “Don’t mess with our federal mandate.” If the White House wants credibility in its free-enterprise talk and promises to drain the swamp, it should tell the ethanol lobby to get lost. The fight began because refiners are finding it increasingly unaffordable to comply with the federal ethanol mandate, and if it continues it might kill independent oil companies. The office of Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, came to the White House on Wednesday and sought to dictate terms, telling the executive it could provide

The only picture of collusion emerging from the Russian probes is one that implicates Hillary’s. Across the U.S. government, political appointees and deep state hacks were helping Hillary and gunning for Trump. One of her partisans over at the FBI, Peter Strzok, performed a virtual hat trick of political espionage: he went from inoculating Hillary against criminal prosecution (by convincing Comey to soften his description of her mishandling of classified information) to joining the quest to nail Trump, all while writing to his mistress, also at the FBI, that they had a mutual duty to prevent Trump from winning the

Alabama is one of the most reliably Republican states in the country. The last time a Democrat was elected was in 1992, and no Democrat has won more than 40 percent of the vote in a Senate race there since 1996. The closest election in recent memory was in 2002, when Jeff Sessions won re-election by a razor-thin margin of 19 points. Sen. Richard Shelby has won his last three elections by 35 points, 30 points and 28 points, respectively. So it takes a special kind of stupid to pick a candidate who can lose to a Democrat in Alabama.

It’s not much of an overstatement to say that the media are enjoying the Alabama upset. It is, among other things, a great story, one that feels as much like a cultural moment, coming in the midst of a fierce national debate over sexual harassment, as a political verdict. And there was the late-night drama of Doug Jones surging past Roy Moore in the final hour of vote-counting, producing a Democratic victory that once might have been hard to imagine. And before we get into the finger-pointing, these elements were overshadowed during the raucous campaign: Jones outspent Moore 10 to 1, which

Conventional wisdom is that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is asleep at the wheel – from recusing himself unnecessarily from the Trump-Russia collusion investigation to doing nothing about the politicization and weaponization of the Department of Justice. News, the plan originally started with just a small group of women but gradually grew as other women wished to express solidarity. “So all of the female actresses and attendees, or most of them at least, are standing in solidarity together in a form of protest,” said ceremony host Jackie Oshry on The Morning Breath radio show. “They’re all going to be wearing black, obviously to protest the injustices

Santa Claus, Christmas trees and the colors red and green are examples of inappropriate “religious iconography” during the holiday season, according to a paper distributed during a “Respecting Religious Diversity” event at the University of Minnesota."Jewish Hanukkah" is targeted, too, with menorahs and the colors blue and white also described as being "not appropriate." “Consider neutral-themed parties such as a ‘winter celebration,’” the handout read. “Decorations, music, and food should be general and not specific to any one religion.” It was part of a Dean’s Dialogues “Religious Diversity and Holidays” event within the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource

CNN anchors Anderson Cooper and Christian Amanpour discuss reports that leaders of Syria, Myanmar Russia, and other authoritarian states have all used the term "fake news" to dismiss credible reports they disagree with. Ryan Crocker, who has served as ambassador to several middle eastern countries joins the conversation. Amanpour said that Trump´s use of the term has given dictators around the world license to paralyze the press and if it goes on, it will put democracy and the entire world order at risk. "This is really serious, and it just has to stop. Because it is undermining not just our safety, but

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) is proposing a new motto for the city that takes aim at President Trump. Emanuel, who served as chief of staff under former President Barack Obama, told Stephen Colbert that he has declared Chicago a “Trump-free zone” and joked that its new motto is “A city he’ll never sleep in.” “We don’t want him,” Emanuel said on “The Late Show” Wednesday night. Emanuel told Colbert that multiple Chicago initiatives, such as public scholarships available to recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration program and environmental regulations, do not line up with the

Democrats hate her (#Tolerance)... Feminists despise her (#GlassCeiling)... Progressives want her silenced (#Diversity)... And the liberal media dreads her. Who is she? She’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders. In case you’ve been hiding under a freshly broken shard of glass from one of the ceilings being broken all over Washington D.C. lately - keep reading, it gets better. She’s the 3rd female to ever hold the office of the White House Press Secretary. - Dee Dee Myers was the first under Clinton (1993-1994) - Dana Perino was the 2nd who served under Bush in 2007 And it’s no surprise that Trump put her there because she’s perfect for the job.

I don’t know whether this is comedy or a sign that in rural America, Democrats really don’t have anyone to run in statewide races. There were rumors that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) could become the next director of the CIA, current CIA Director Mike Pompeo would become secretary of state, and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be asked to take a hike. Talk about some unwelcome Thanksgiving news if you’re Tillerson. The Trump White House has rejected the notion that this plan is in the works. Tillerson himself said he’s never considered leaving his current post.

Spurred by the multitude of sexual abuse scandals, top Hollywood executives have tapped Anita Hill to chair the newly formed Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace. The commission made the announcement Friday following a meeting convened by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Nike Foundation founder and co-chair Maria Eitel, Nina Shaw, and venture captialist Freada Kapor Klein. “The Commission will not seek just one solution, but a comprehensive strategy to address the complex and inter-related causes of the problems of parity and power,” said Kennedy.
