Hollywood is in chaos, and all because of one man: Harvey Weinstein. Multiple allegations of rape, sexual harassment and trading sex for movie roles have forced one of the most powerful men in show business out of his company and begging for help and forgiveness. But the ripples extending from the wake of Weinstein’s dramatic fall extend much further than his business and personal relationships and so far show no signs of abating. From the women he allegedly abused, to the associates who allegedly knew about his behavior all along but stayed silent, to the A-list actors and actresses who depend on him
Comments: Word is Georgina Chapman´s Marquesa jewelry licensee is backing out, too.
My daughter worked in the movie business in PR about 10 years ago, when she was in her early 20´s. She was a bit star struck and was thrilled to have close and daily access to people like Johnny Depp (hot), Keira Knightly (serious eating disorder), Orlando Bloom (smelly), Kevin Spacey (hilarious) and Robert DiNiro ("Bob" to her). After about two years she moved on to less sexy areas of PR like real estate and medical technology because she began to see the entertainment business as vacuous. When this story broke, all she said was that Hollywood as a whole is filthy and disturbing, little more than a racket for powerful perverted men to use the vulnerable, ambitious, beautiful and callow without fear of reprisal or prosecution. I personally have never been particularly enthralled by movies but if Hollywood is simply a huge brothel funded by movie profits no wonder the products are so bad.
Hollywood survived after Fatty Arbuckle it will survive after Weinstein and Bill Cosby. Another pervert will fill the void and democrats will hustle for bucks they provide to the party. Bad movies and remakes will continue just like always. The look on my face right now is I don´t care or ever cared just like the NFL. I have never star gazed or was ever concerned about their painted on lives on the ´red carpet. How many Batman sequels can be made like Jurassic Park and Jaws?
I agree very much with the assessment that Hollywood has become a role model for our children. Probably even for some of us but have rehabilitated. I believe there is a much better role model but that is just me.
How can these Harvey Weinstein accusations cause chaos in Hollywood when it has been a chaotic climate since the beginning?

Couldn´t care less if all of "Hollywood" (in the many places it is located) met the same deserving fate as Sodom & Gomorrah. Couldn´t happen to a better crowd that worked hard to earn their fate and the wrath of God.
Hard to say which came first in this chicken/egg scenario. Do powerful men take advantage of sweet innocent women ... or do conniving women see the power and are drawn to it? No one yet has stated old, fat pock-marked Harvey ripped their clothes off or even drugged them like Cosby. Seems the ladies dropped their garments willingly ... or at least as a bribe that often worked!
Hollywood keeps braying about "their art". Seems to me we are witnessing the real art in Hollywood and that is the oldest profession in the world is alive and well and thriving in that community. Their sanctimonious rants on everything from weather to women´s rights is a joke. Who are they to lecture anyone on with their wrongheaded opinions. They have zero moral authority, but I´ll give them this, they have loud mouths and a whole lot of hubris. I seldom go to a movie and see no reason to alter that decision. Why put money in the pockets of pervers and sexual abusers? Ashley Judd is especially hypocritical with her cowardice in the face of real sexual abuse....some feminist. She is like all the others...willing to do whatever was necessary to get the right break.
Yes, because only when others are present and actually SEE a girl, against her wishes, watching Harvey Weinstein take a shower and when others actually SEE Harvey Weinstein try to force a young actress up to his hotel room, swearing by his children he´s not going to do something he´s used to like groping her breasts, THEN Ben and his ilk can condemn this behavior. Because of course until that happens, like Lanny Davis would say, "There is no POOF."
and help ensure there are more women in positions of power
Why? So women in power can force men to watch them take showers? Is it a given that ALL men in power merely want to take advantage of women and get away with it for years because people like Ben who KNEW it was happening would enable the behavior?
I get it Ben; because Harvey Weinstein was a KNOWN pervert and got away with being a KNOWN pervert by the Great Land of Pretend (including YOU), ALL men would do the same thing and only a woman in power would prevent it.
There is only ONE ultimate Trickster and he is not Man. He knows all who came after him and he knows them better than they know themselves. He gleefully rubs his hands rapidly together as he watches them try to mimic him and in doing so they spin the web that forever traps them. An so, hey Harv! How´s TRICKS?
FTA ~ “Absolutely nothing will change long-term in Hollywood. It’s not a town of men versus women. It’s a town of the powerful versus the desperate,” said Hollywood film producer Colin Goldman."
Of course! All these stars coming forth are now trying to CYA. They knew.. they may not have personally seen it happen, but they knew. And the Democrats are just as guilty. They take any money they can get from the rich and powerful. Another reason they hate Trump! They know he isn´t on the take because he doesn´t have to.
Does any thinking person really care about this ´scandal?´ Female Hollywood stars and star wannabes, that parade around the world with little or nothing on, act (?) in sleazy movies full of nudity and simulated sex, are hard to feel sorry for!
I was watching a report on the Weinstein situation yesterday and I was suddenly reminded of that deep cut track on the Eagles´ "Long Run" album called "The King of Hollywood." If they weren´t singing about Weinstein specifically, they were certainly singing about a predatory culture that has existed in the film industry for decades.
Let´s take a look. Is the decadence any different, less disgusting, or wide spread than it has been lo these many years in that beautiful place, "Hollywood"? So, what else is new? These people have been swapping wives and husbands, taking drugs, posturing for an admiring public, and covering up this kind of behavior since the days of Mac Sennett and Cecil B. DeMille.
Now, when the bloated carcass becomes available, who feasts on it like the carrion creatures that they are, the rest of the Hollywood elite. The Meryl Streeps, and the rest of the vultures who used to join in the "glamour" of this swolen pathetic former icon, Weinstein, now treat him like a pinata for the preservation of their own "star" status.
I haven´t seen a movie for more than 20 years so I don´t have a dog in this hunt. But let me add this one admonishment: A plague on ALL of your houses.
All of these powerful Hollywood A-listers doing their best Sgt Schultz impersonation and "applauding" the courage of the women who have stepped forward. I envision them all standing there, doing the slow clap of sincerity.
"On Wednesday, the academy released a statement calling Weinstein’s alleged behavior “repugnant, abhorrent, and antithetical to the high standards of the Academy and the creative community it represents” and announced that its board of governors would hold a special meeting Saturday to review his membership."
It´s a wonder the author of the above didn´t choke to death muttering such hypocrisy?
Hollywood and it´s products have been living in the gutter for years and it´s High Standards died years ago!
Um, Rose, perhaps you should re-think your clothing choices. Given the dress you’re wearing in that photo, I’m not surprised that some man would think you were asking for it. But then, I’m just an old lady who was raised to not dress like a slut.
After California’s then-Attorney General Kamala D. Harris announced felony pimping charges last year against the two owners of Backpage.com — a classified-ad website that is a hub for sex trafficking and prostitution, one of the men cut a $10,000 check to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s super PAC. Mrs. Pelosi’s political action committee, House Majority PAC, has resisted giving the money back, and an aide to Mrs. Pelosi said the California Democrat knows nothing about the contribution. The uproar over sexual harassment that began with the Harvey Weinstein scandal has intensified the scrutiny of political contributions linked to Backpage, which law enforcement
The inspiration behind the Women’s March on DC, Linda Sarsour, has been accused of enabling the alleged sexual assault and harassment of a woman who worked for the feminist activist, according to the victim and two sources directly familiar with the matter. Allegations of groping and unwanted touching were allegedly brought to Sarsour during her time as executive director of the Arab American Association. In response, Sarsour, a self-proclaimed champion of women, attacked the woman bringing the allegations, often threatening and body-shaming her, these sources alleged. The most serious allegations were dismissed, Asmi Fathelbab, the alleged victim told The Daily Caller,
One week after President Trump won the election, some Washington residents protested against him on the Capitol grounds. One sign, illustrated with an outline of the District of Columbia, read, “Don’t Drain my Swamp.” The federal capital´s incestuous network of revolving-door cronies and entrenched bureaucrats have so protected and increased their own power in recent years that the five wealthiest counties in America are all within commuting distance of Capitol Hill. These swamp creatures complain that Trump is bringing in too many outsiders. Beltway insiders consider it a crime that the president has nominated critics of agencies to head those
In hindsight, the most important thing said this year came on Jan. 3. Chuck Schumer, leader of Senate Democrats, warned President-elect Trump he would pay a price for disputing intelligence officials’ findings of Russian meddling. “Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer declared. Schumer was right about a vendetta, but wrong about timing. It’s now clear that intelligence officials already had started “getting back” at the next commander in chief. They started in the summer of 2016. In early August, Mike Morell, who was acting head of the
Thousands of people lined up at the gates of Arlington Cemetery before dawn Saturday morning. It was a bitterly cold. The temperature was far below freezing. There was snow on the ground. None of it dampened the spirits of those who looked forward to laying a wreath on a gleaming white headstone of an American hero. Wreaths Across America has been going on for 26 years. The tradition seeks to place a fresh pine wreath on the headstone of every fallen soldier in a national cemetery. Around 1,000 locations in 50 states participate. The effort is massive and the payoff
Democrats hate her (#Tolerance)... Feminists despise her (#GlassCeiling)... Progressives want her silenced (#Diversity)... And the liberal media dreads her. Who is she? She’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders. In case you’ve been hiding under a freshly broken shard of glass from one of the ceilings being broken all over Washington D.C. lately - keep reading, it gets better. She’s the 3rd female to ever hold the office of the White House Press Secretary. - Dee Dee Myers was the first under Clinton (1993-1994) - Dana Perino was the 2nd who served under Bush in 2007 And it’s no surprise that Trump put her there because she’s perfect for the job.
The ethanol lobby is talking tough and issuing ultimatums to the Trump White House. Its message, in brief, is “Don’t mess with our federal mandate.” If the White House wants credibility in its free-enterprise talk and promises to drain the swamp, it should tell the ethanol lobby to get lost. The fight began because refiners are finding it increasingly unaffordable to comply with the federal ethanol mandate, and if it continues it might kill independent oil companies. The office of Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, came to the White House on Wednesday and sought to dictate terms, telling the executive it could provide
Spurred by the multitude of sexual abuse scandals, top Hollywood executives have tapped Anita Hill to chair the newly formed Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace. The commission made the announcement Friday following a meeting convened by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Nike Foundation founder and co-chair Maria Eitel, Nina Shaw, and venture captialist Freada Kapor Klein. “The Commission will not seek just one solution, but a comprehensive strategy to address the complex and inter-related causes of the problems of parity and power,” said Kennedy.
E.J. Dionne claims that “the attacks on [Robert] Mueller push us closer to the precipice.” But if we’re close to the precipice now, where were we 20 years ago when Ken Starr was relentlessly attacked by Democrats and their media pals while he investigated Bill Clinton?* Don’t expect an answer from Dionne. He’s not intellectually honest enough even to mention Starr in his rant. But charges of hypocrisy against one party and its backers can often be turned around. Yes, the response of Democrats generally, and Dionne in particular, to attacks on Mueller is inconsistent with their posture during the Ken Starr
The only picture of collusion emerging from the Russian probes is one that implicates Hillary’s. Across the U.S. government, political appointees and deep state hacks were helping Hillary and gunning for Trump. One of her partisans over at the FBI, Peter Strzok, performed a virtual hat trick of political espionage: he went from inoculating Hillary against criminal prosecution (by convincing Comey to soften his description of her mishandling of classified information) to joining the quest to nail Trump, all while writing to his mistress, also at the FBI, that they had a mutual duty to prevent Trump from winning the
Alabama is one of the most reliably Republican states in the country. The last time a Democrat was elected was in 1992, and no Democrat has won more than 40 percent of the vote in a Senate race there since 1996. The closest election in recent memory was in 2002, when Jeff Sessions won re-election by a razor-thin margin of 19 points. Sen. Richard Shelby has won his last three elections by 35 points, 30 points and 28 points, respectively. So it takes a special kind of stupid to pick a candidate who can lose to a Democrat in Alabama.
Recently, a young being – I don’t want to presume its gender identity, but it’ll probably throw a hissy fit about my blatant chrono-shaming anyway – scribbled an article titled 10 Things Every Intersectional Feminist Should Ask On a First Date for his/her/xir fellow liberal freaks. It’s an illuminating view into the twisted minds of the SJWs, but the article never answers the first question we all asked ourselves reading the title: “Why the hell would anyone ever date an intersectional feminist?” Masochism? Threats? Lost a bet? Anyway, her/his/xir article is meant to help her/his/xir readers determine whether their prospective mates will
Over 700 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency have quit or taken early retirement during the Trump administration so far, bringing the agency close to employment levels not seen since Reagan. ThinkProgress, whose senior editor is scared of his plumber who he fears may have voted for Trump, is warning that the exodus will lead to "dirtier air" and "dirtier water." "Since Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt took over the top job at the agency in March, more than 700 employees have either retired, taken voluntary buyouts, or quit, signaling the second-highest exodus of employees from the agency in nearly a
An MSNBC spokesman confirmed Saturday the company made a separation-related payment to one of Chris Matthews employees after the woman complained about sexual harassment. Two sources familiar with the situation told The Daily Caller that Matthews paid $40,000 to settle with an assistant producer on his show, “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” in 1999 after she accused him of harassment. An MSNBC spokesperson contested that claim to the Caller, saying the company instead paid significantly less as part of a severance package. The woman complained to CNBC executives about Matthews making inappropriate comments and jokes about her while in the company
There’s bad news and there’s worse news for President Donald Trump in new polls released this week. First comes the latest round of polling showing that Trump is the most unpopular president on record. Just 32% of respondents to a new Associated Press-NORC poll said they approved of the job Trump is doing as president, while an overwhelming 67% they disapproved. Among those who don’t think the president is doing a good job, more than half say they “strongly disapprove” of his work. The poll — conducted earlier this month — also suggests that nearly 70% of Americans believe the United States is “heading
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is returning to Arizona and will miss the final vote on his party’s tax bill this week, CBS News reported Sunday. McCain, who has been hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center suffering from the side effects of his treatment for brain cancer, reportedly left Washington, D.C., on Sunday to return home for the holidays. This means he will not be in D.C. for the GOP tax bill vote, which is expected to take place early in the week. Republicans have won over two key votes for the measure, meaning they should still have the razor-thin majority needed to
I don’t know whether this is comedy or a sign that in rural America, Democrats really don’t have anyone to run in statewide races. There were rumors that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) could become the next director of the CIA, current CIA Director Mike Pompeo would become secretary of state, and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be asked to take a hike. Talk about some unwelcome Thanksgiving news if you’re Tillerson. The Trump White House has rejected the notion that this plan is in the works. Tillerson himself said he’s never considered leaving his current post.
It appears the Obama Administration weaponized the Federal Bureau of Investigation just like they weaponized the Internal Revenue Service. The Obama administration used government agencies to wage a covert war on their political enemies. This is an all-out war. We have a growing mountain of evidence to suggest the FBI was attempting to overthrow a duly elected president. We have evidence to suggest the FBI was protecting Hillary Clinton so she might be elected president. There is no smoking gun just yet – but the evidence is staggering – it is simply staggering. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) told the Todd
For much of the year, Kirsten Gillibrand’s critics — sensing a presidential aspirant in their midst — had assumed that the New York senator could not hear enough about herself. For one day at least, it appeared she had. It had been about 10 hours since President Trump accused her of “begging” for campaign contributions that she “would do anything” to secure, and the Ms. Gillibrand, driving with her 14-year-old son on Tuesday evening, flipped on the radio looking for an update on the Senate race in Alabama. The top story, instead, was her. The radio went off again. What, exactly,
Hillary Clinton responded to a "Saturday Night Live" actor who showed off a new tattoo in the former Democratic presidential nominee´s likeness.Pete Davidson posted an image of his new Hillary ink on his Instagram page, saying it was a "gift" for the 2016 runner-up."Wanted to get @HillaryClinton a Christmas gift so I got a tattoo of my hero," Davidson, 24, wrote on Instagram. "Thanks for being such a bad-[expletive] and one of the strongest people in the universe," he wrote. (Tweet) Clinton later commented on Davidson´s post, thanking him for his support."Thanks," the former first lady wrote. "This makes it
PART I A GLOBAL THREAT EMERGES How Hezbollah turned to trafficking cocaine and laundering money through used cars to finance its expansion. In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation. The campaign, dubbed Project Cassandra, was launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was
O.J. Simpson´s former lawyer and an investigator who worked on his case have revealed plans for a book they say will finally put to rest the public´s disbelief that he was acquitted of murder. F.Lee Bailey was one of several lawyers who worked on Simpson´s case in the 1990s. (Snip) Now 84, Bailey and Pat McKenna, the investigator who the defense hired, are shopping a book to publishers which they say will finally address what millions have been incredulous over for decades - how did OJ get off? ´We’re not writing this to make a fortune. ´We’re writing this to
The Democracy Dies in Darkness Café is located conveniently near the Capitol, the Hill and the FBI headquarters. It’s open all night and I stopped in for a late-night coffee with my friend, a fiction novelist who was depressed. “I spent a year writing about a coup attempt against an outsider who by strategic brilliance defeated the handpicked candidate of a cabal of establishment powerhouses. It involved the highest officials of the FBI and Department of Justice. They manipulated a FISA Court into letting them electronically surveil the candidate and all who worked with him, unmasked their names, leaked what
Washington — Once again, black women showed up for Democrats, with nearly all of them voting in Alabama for new Sen. Doug Jones, just as they did for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot in other states over the last few months. The same women, having proven their loyalty by voting 98 percent for Senator Jones, now wonder whether the Democratic Party will return the favor by sharing some of the party´s political power, handing over places at the negotiating table and pushing legislation that speaks to their unique issues. "Black women showed up and showed out," said Kimberlè
