Latest developments in the North Bay fires: 10:45 a.m. Some Fairfield residents advised to pack a to-go bag in case fire spreads: Volatile and gusty winds in Solano County are expected to begin about 11 a.m. and could spread the Atlas Fire to neighborhoods in Fairfield, according to a statement from the city police department. Given the speed, not surprised a lot of people could not get out in time.

I am 60 miles away and the sky is hazy with smoke and the air smells like smoke. We are gathering goods for people who got out with only the clothes on their back.

I was just listening to a radio program where it was reported that all of these fires have been starting in National Forests.....where environmentalists will not allow controlled burns. One reason is that they are adamant that old growth must not be touched, according to a report he was citing.

James O´Keefe´s Project Veritas undercover video project has discovered that Big Brother is alive and well, and living on Market Street in San Francisco, in a beautifully restored 1.1-million-square-foot art deco masterpiece formerly known as the Western Furniture Exchange and Merchandise Mart. O´Keefe´s latest video reveals that Twitter – according to its own employees – is paying "hundreds of people" to examine "private" messages sent by Twitter users to one another. The nine-and-a-half-minute video ought to be enough to convince anyone to avoid using Twitter for any messages that might cause embarrassment to the sender. The blackmail potential revealed is stunning,

Dolores O´Riordan, the lead singer of the Cranberries, has died at age 46, and across the musical and political spectra, there is cause for mourning. She was a stunning talent, with one of the most exquisite voices in rockdom – slightly metallic, musical as a bell, grinding, passionate, and fascinatingly Irish in accent. Her songs and videos were as beautiful as she was: lithe, sinewy, manic, melodic. Her lyrics were poetic and surprisingly sophisticated. With a great band and great songs, of course she was destined to become a big rock star in the 1990s, that transition period before just rap

Be prepared for frank sentiments about the terminology that Senator Dick Durbin alleges that President Trump employed in a private conversation. The comments below originally appeared on a forum for people from the Igala Tribe in Nigeria but were loaded onto YouTube yesterday. The Igala people I have known have been very smart, and successful in this country. Warning: The same vulgar term alleged to have been used by President Trump is frequently employed. I wonder what Maxine Waters would say if she watched this?

TODASANA, Venezuela — With its oil industry floundering, Venezuela is searching for a new engine of growth for an economy in free fall. The embattled socialist government thinks it has an answer: a future built not only on drilling and roughnecks but also on beach umbrellas and piña coladas. “Tourism is the oil that never runs out,” Marleny Contreras, the nation’s tourism minister, recently proclaimed. Yet for a country saddled with the world’s highest inflation rate and rampant violence, becoming a tourist paradise may be as improbable as a new Disney theme park in Damascus. Amid severe scarcities of basic goods, some hotels

Cranberries lead singer Dolores O’Riordan has died suddenly in London at the age of 46. The lead singer with the Irish band was in London for a short recording session. In a statement, her publicist said that family members are “devastated to hear the breaking news” and have requested privacy “ at this very difficult time”. Her last posting on the band’s Facebook account was posted on December 20th. It read: “Hi All, Dolores here. Feeling good! I did my first bit of gigging in months at the weekend, performed a few songs at the Billboard annual staff holiday party in New York with

Dear Reader (and the cast of the Gorilla Channel, who get this “news”letter via sign language. Lest folks think I’m dodging the issues that they all seem desperate to debate, I’ll address a bunch of them before I make my case. Let’s start with the question of Donald Trump’s racism. If you are like me, your retirement account rose substantially in value during 2017. The end of the stubborn economic lag of the Obama years is a signal event affecting the life every American. It’s not just the stock market that’s up, but GDP and job growth as well. Presumably because it would make the Trump administration look good, the mainstream media have given this development relatively little attention — as illustrated by the New York Times’ non-treatment in its 2017 year in review. (The Denver Post’s Dec. 31 print edition review provides another example.) When the mainstream media have discussed the

The outrage over President Trump´s supposed "s-hole" comment, which was about questioning whether the U.S. should be importing large numbers of nationals from dysfunctional countries, has drawn the hypocrites out of the woodwork. One of the loudest out there harrumphing has been South Carolina´s Sen. Lindsey Graham, who, much to the New York Times´ glee, admonished Trump that "America is an idea, not a race." Yet when Graham said in 2013, "The people coming across the southern border live in hellholes. They don´t like that. They want to come here. Our problem is, we can´t have everybody in the

According to the Washington Examiner: A new report about crimes committed by illegals finds that younger undocumented immigrants [sic; should be "illegal aliens" –ed.] who were eligible for former President Obama´s DACA amnesty program commit far more crimes than other immigrants or U.S. citizens. In a year when Democrats are supposed to be taking over Congress, it´s pretty amazing how shallow their bench is. Instead of offering strong candidates with real counter-ideas supposedly to oppose Republicans, they seem to have a larger than normal crop of human muck. Yet as the Roy Moore debacle showed Republicans, elections are won by attracting good candidates. With charmers like these in Democrats´ current lineup, there´s reason to question whether there´s really going to be a wave. Chelsea Manning is the latest to join this clown cavalcade, filing to run for a seat in the Maryland Senate. It´s an astonishing

James Damore is gone from Google. But he will not soon be forgotten. He’s joined with a conservative lawyer to bring a class action against the company, accusing it of discriminating against conservatives, Caucasians and men. The lawsuit, just filed in a California court, certainly offers evidence that things were uncomfortable for conservatives at Google. And especially, that they were uncomfortable for James Damore after he wrote a memo suggesting that before Google went all-out trying to achieve gender parity in its teams, it needed to be open to the possibility that the reason there were fewer women at the firm

What if "Hating Trump" is actually a sign of how influential America still is? From Dave Chappelle to Sarah Silverman, American media have enjoyed deep pockets verbally excoriating The Donald,

NBC plans to televise any players who refuse to stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl, but there may be nothing to show. It appears that NFL players are no longer taking a knee during the national anthem, namely because none of the teams with still-active protesters has qualified for the postseason. By the end of the regular season, only five teams featured at least one player regularly sitting or kneeling on the sidelines for the anthem: the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders. Mitt Romney took a swipe at Donald Trump on Monday, condemning the crude comments the president was said to have made about Haiti and African countries -- calling them “inconsistent (with) America’s history and antithetical to American values” with a reference to Martin Luther King, Jr. The poverty of an aspiring immigrant’s nation of origin is as irrelevant as their race,” Romney tweeted. “The sentiment attributed to POTUS is inconsistent w/America’s history and antithetical to American values. The most recent attack on the president is designed to throw him off balance during the debate on immigration. Senator Durbin, doing his best Claude Rains imitation, stated, "I cannot believe that, in the history of the White House, in that Oval Office, any president has ever spoken the words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday." Durbin was responding to Trump´s alleged comment that Haiti, El Salvador, and certain African countries are "s---holes." Ever since Donald Trump entered the political arena, his intelligence has been viciously attacked and his supporters have been labeled as moronic deplorables. In a recent Trump tweet, the president responded to the most recent attack by saying he is a stable genius.
