In California Wine Country, Wildfires
Take a Toll on Vintages and Tourism

New York Times, by Tiffany Hsu

Fatal wildfires scorching eight Northern California counties this week have dealt a devastating blow to the important wine and tourism industries, destroying several historic wineries and threatening the remaining grape harvest in the Napa and Sonoma valleys. Although the seasonal harvest is nearly complete, the conflagration threatens to disrupt tens of thousands of jobs and destroy valuable stores of grapes and wine in bins, barrels and bottles. The extent of the damage will be unclear for days because the fires are blocking many worried owners from reaching their wineries. Tourism in the region — a multibillion-dollar economic machine that includes

Today, researchers published details of a new attack against Wi-Fi encryption, which they dubbed “Krack.” Manufacturers have known about the issue for more than a month, but it still caught much of the industry off guard; major companies are still scrambling to deploy patches before an exploit code becomes available. It’s an unusual bug — both hard to exploit and hard to fix — and it’s already stretching vendor patching systems to their limit. Here’s what you need to know to keep your own devices safe. The good news is Krack is a wide but shallow bug: nearly every device that

Colin Kaepernick’s collusion case against NFL owners will argue that his continued unemployment is at least partially the fault of President Donald Trump, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports. Kaepernick intends to argue that Trump, on Twitter and in public speeches, influenced NFL owners against signing Kaepernick, according to the report. Trump has repeatedly attacked NFL players in recent weeks for protesting during the national anthem, even sending Vice President Mike Pence to Indianapolis for a premeditated performance where he walked out of the Colts-49ers game after San Francisco players knelt during the anthem. Trump has also mentioned Kaepernick specifically at least

In order to win his collusion grievance against NFL owners, Colin Kaepernick will need to prove a pattern of communication with and between teams that led to his current unemployment, a labor law expert told USA TODAY Sports. “He’s going to have to show some kind of pattern -- of dealings with the clubs, where clubs were aware that he was willing and able to work, where there was some sort of communication with him and then unexplained reasons went elsewhere,” said William Gould, the Charles A. For over forty years the left has been successfully reshaping American culture. Social mores and government policies about sexuality, marriage, the sexes, race relations, morality, and ethics have changed radically. The collective wisdom of the human race that we call tradition has been marginalized or discarded completely. The role of religion in public life has been reduced to a private preference. And politics has been increasingly driven by the assumptions of progressivism: internationalism privileged over nationalism, centralization of power over its dispersal in federalism, elitist technocracy over democratic republicanism, “human sciences” over common sense, and dependent clients over autonomous citizens. Three Sonoma County Probation officers patrolling the area because of ongoing fires in the region noticed Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, 29, walking out of the creek area and a plume of smoke behind him, Sheriff’s Sgt. Reading from her 512-page post mortem where she explains how she lost the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Marr quoted an excerpt where Clinton observed

Just because western media doesn’t understand how President Trump executes a geopolitical strategy based on economic leverage, that doesn’t mean adversaries are not fully aware of the effectiveness of the approach. The Trump Doctrine has two avenues toward dealing with national security adversaries. The first route is direct assignment of responsibility toward the enablers: see China for North Korea; The Gulf States for Qatar (Sunni extremism); Russia for Syrian terrorism (Assad); and Pakistan for Afghanistan (Taliban); as recent examples. However, when the geopolitical threat stems directly from the enabler, and not the enabled, the Trump Doctrine has a distinctly different and far

Hillary Clinton slammed what she called "endemic" sexism and misogyny in America during an interview with Fareed Zakaria, which aired Sunday. Clinton, who was interviewed by Zakaria on his show, "GPS," said sexism was so inherent that she purposely hadn´t highlighted her career history of fighting for women´s rights when she ran for president in 2016. However, she admitted that with the benefit of hindsight, she "could have tried harder" to do so. The Clinton Foundation told DailyMail.com it will not return as much as $250,000 in donations from Harvey Weinstein, saying on Sunday the money had already been spent on the organization’s programs and used for charitable purposes. The foundation’s decision comes as politicians and philanthropic groups grapple with whether to return donations they have received from Weinstein, after numerous women stepped forward this month to accuse the movie mogul of sexual assault, harassment and rape. Over a dozen Democratic politicians have said they will give back or donate Weinstein’s campaign contributions to charity. The Clinton Foundation faced questions about Weinstein’s funding after Hillary Clinton
