An elderly Napa couple who died in their home in the Atlas Peak fire had recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, according to the Napa Valley Register. The Napa County Sheriff´s-Coroner´s Office on Tuesday confirmed the deaths of Charles Rippey, 100, and his wife, Sara Rippey, 98. They had lived near the Silverado golf course for about four decades, their son, Chuck, told NBC Bay Area. The couple´s caregiver called him as fire tore through the house on Sunday night. "The caregiver called me and said that there was fire everywhere," Chuck Rippey told the station. "I said just get those guys out

"Chuck Rippey told NBC Bay Area that his parents´ bodies were discovered in the ashes of their home. Despite the smoke, and his walker, Charles almost managed to make it to Sara´s side."

So sad. Tears...

Real Clear Investigations, by James Varney    Original Article

When the order from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau hit Mike Donovan’s desk, he thought there must be some mistake. Donovan does not run a bank or a financial services firm. His Virginia-based company, Nexus Services, specializes in securing bonds for detained immigrants. Nevertheless, the CFPB issued Nexus a “civil investigative demand” (CID) for voluminous documents, including all of its client information. Asserting its authority through the rationale that Nexus’ bond services are a form of credit, the bureau did not allege any specific wrongdoing in its demand, although it insinuated that Nexus may employ deceptive practices to land clients. Ricardo Hausmann is no typical academic. The respected Venezuelan economist who is a professor at Harvard´s Kennedy school is known for going out on a limb and making the powers that be uncomfortable. He´s done it a lot and it´s because he loves his country. He was one of the first to call fraud on Venezuela´s recall referendum of 2004 and blast Jimmy Carter, who claimed all was free and fair. With Venezuela soon starving, he shocked the world ten years later by calling on Venezuela to default on its debts and use the cash to feed its people. He warned

Wolff Touts Book ‘Will Finally

Newsbusters, by Nicholas Fondacaro    Original Article

In an interview with BBC Radio on Saturday, Michael Wolff, the author of the dubiously sourced gossip book targeting President Trump, boasted to host Nick Robinson that “the story” that he told, “will finally end...this presidency” once and for all. Wolff’s self-glorification was brought on when Robinson questioned the effectiveness of the book alone and wondered if it would help the Russia investigation in any way since that had a greater chance of getting rid of Trump. “Now, all of this is fascinating, it’s an insight, it’s gossip some of it, it may not be enough to stop him from being president.

The FBI’s Dubious Probe of Hillary’s Emails

The FBI did everything but drive Hillary’s getaway car. Former secretary of state Clinton is a free woman largely thanks to the tender loving care that the FBI provided her and her conspirators during its probe of her illegal, unsecure email server and related abuse of government secrets. GOP lawmakers concluded this after grilling FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe on December 21, behind closed doors, according to John Solomon’s molar-grinding exposé in Tuesday’s The Hill. “For the first time, investigators say they have secured written evidence that the FBI believed there was evidence that some laws were broken,” Solomon reported. Bottom-ranked NBC news host Megyn Kelly is refusing to host Michael Wolff on her show to talk about his new anti-Trump book, "Fire and Fury:Inside the Trump White House." Writing in the Washington Examiner, Eddie Scarry makes a good point asking how, if President Trump really is in the throes of dementia, can´t read, doesn´t learn, etc., as so many of Michael Wolff´s supposed White House whisperers claim, why hasn´t the public actually seen any of this? Wolff points out that Trump is a man who is continuously seen in public, far more so than any of his political rivals: Where was this version of Trump when giving one of his dozens of interviews, hosting his rallies, or delivering public remarks at any point between 2015 and now? Yes, Trump mostly spoke

In his stemwinder piece on the early chaotic days of the Trump administration, Michael Wolff would have us believe that Donald Trump really didn´t want to be president. It´s a desperate, pathetic new narrative, because up until now, the left has been adamant that Trump colluded with the Russians to do it. Pundits have marveled at what a big surprise it was that ordinary Iranians have revolted against the mullahs. It´s a surprise to them, but no surprise to American Thinker´s readers, whose Iranian contributors have kept us posted for years about what is really going on in Iran. Just look at these pieces by Hamid Bahrami, Reza Shafiee, Hassan Mahmoudi, Amil Imani and Shahriar Kia. Over and over again, these writers warned there was a problem, and now Iranians´ protests against corruption, soaring prices, environmental ruin, revolutionary guard thuggery, poverty, and bank collapses have become the "surprise" story of the day.

The legalization of marijuana became a hot topic in the past week. First, recreational use of the drug became legal in California at the start of 2018. Next, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced he would allow U.S. attorneys to decide whether to enforce federal laws outlawing the use and sale of pot in states that have legalized the drug. Sessions ended an Obama administration policy that discouraged federal prosecutors from enforcing federal marijuana laws in states that allow the drug’s medical or recreational use. In July, MSNBC host and former Rep. Joe Scarborough showily announced on Stephen Colbert´s CBS show that he was leaving the Republican Party. No one on the Republican National Committee flew a flag at half-mast. The announcement was at least a decade behind the reality. In 2006, he basically called then-President Bush an idiot. President Trump is spending an increasing amount of his day on social media and watching television, which his schedule has dubbed officially as ´executive time´ - and his days in the Oval Office don´t actually begin in earnest until 11 a.m. each day, a report from Axios stated. The report states that Trump´s day begins at 8 a.m., but that he conducts business from his private residence in the White House rather than the Oval Office. This compares to George W. ALBANY – Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo thinks he has a way to end run President Trump. If the president´s federal tax overhaul plan is going to hit thousands of New Yorkers with higher tax bills, then New York will circumvent Washington by rewriting part of its complex tax code, Cuomo reasons. But it’s not so easy. The basic premise of the still-evolving state plan, vaguely unveiled during Cuomo’s State of the State speech last week, is to sharply reduce the state’s reliance on income taxes that employees pay by starting a new, statewide payroll tax that employers would pay. Now that Steve Bannon has carried his political jihad to its logical conclusion, martyrdom never looked so meaningless. A bright and talented man has sacrificed himself over nothing more significant than anger and vanity. Consider a recent report that Bannon was mulling the idea of running for president in 2020.
