An elderly Napa couple who died in their home in the Atlas Peak fire had recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, according to the Napa Valley Register. The Napa County Sheriff´s-Coroner´s Office on Tuesday confirmed the deaths of Charles Rippey, 100, and his wife, Sara Rippey, 98. They had lived near the Silverado golf course for about four decades, their son, Chuck, told NBC Bay Area. The couple´s caregiver called him as fire tore through the house on Sunday night. "Chuck Rippey told NBC Bay Area that his parents´ bodies were discovered in the ashes of their home. Despite the smoke, and his walker, Charles almost managed to make it to Sara´s side."

So sad. Tears...

Trump´s black-marker Empire State
Building sketch fetches $16,000 at auction

California-based auction house Julien´s Auctions has sold Donald Trump´s sketch of the Empire State Building to a winning bid that far exceeded initial expectations. The 12-inch-by-9-inch drawing, made with a black marker, was created by Trump in the early 1990s during an art festival in what would later become the Mar-a-Lago club. According to the note attached to the lot, "during this time the Empire State Building occupied a great deal of Trump´s attention as he was attempting to take over the iconic New York landmark." At its 1990s public debut, the sketch fetched under $100 at a charity auction. As

What is it about sex harassment and the glitzy, hipsterly, hyper-cutting-edge left? In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sex harassment scandal, now it comes to light that Vox.com, the smarter-than-thou left-wing website founded by JournoList creator Ezra Klein, has a few sex harassment problems of its own. Late Thursday, the company announced that it had fired Lockhart Steele, its editorial director, after a website called Medium published allegations of drunken gropings in the backseat of a New York cab on a now former staffer named Eden Rohatensky.

The Hollywood writer from the Friends of Bill days, the crafter of President Clinton´s Monica Lewinsky talking points, the woman caught jumping on the bed in the rented out Lincoln Bedroom? With so many Hollywood denizens coming out of the woodwork in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Bloodworth-Thomason has a guest column for the Hollywood Reporter, decrying the culture of sexism such as she saw it herself in Hollywood, and then offering a half-baked old-hat Hollywoodish proposed solution about the girls teaming up to fight the establishment (as if that hadn´t been acted out before in

How big is the burn area of

As wildfires continue to burn in California, here’s a look at the size of the burned areas compared to cities – and even a state. California’s major wildfires have burned more than 330 square miles, the state Governor’s Office of Emergency Service said Tuesday. That is about equal to the size of Sacramento, about 100.1 square miles; Fresno, about 114.7 square miles; San Francisco, about 46,87 square miles; and Oakland, about 77.86 square miles, combined. The area burned has surpassed the size of New York City’s five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island – which measure

After 10 days of battling wildfires throughout Northern California, firefighters are finally beginning to talk about having the upper hand. The Tubbs Fire in Sonoma County that destroyed hundreds of homes in Santa Rosa is 91 percent contained and fire personnel said Wednesday they have stopped the blaze’s forward progress. There are still some hot spots within the fire lines. “The fire is looking real good, so we’re feeling really good about that,” Santa Rosa Fire Chief Tony Gossner said at a midday press conference.

CNN political reporter Daniella Diaz sent a tweet on Monday pointing out that President Trump and Sen. Mitch McConnell locked hands while walking up stairs at the White House following their Rose Garden press conference. Diaz seemed to be mocking the Republican duo – but while followers quickly pointed out that the Kentucky senator is a polio survivor, the tweet remains on her feed nearly 24 hours later. “That hand-lock between Trump and McConnell, though,” Diaz wrote with video of the incident. A CNN colleague called out Diaz, quoting her tweet and explaining the situation. At the time this article was

Former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power is denying, emphatically, to Congress, that she ever requested 260 unmaskings of Americans caught up in intelligence surveillance dragnets during President Obama´s last year in office. She says someone else did it. The Daily Caller reports: Someone within the Obama administration’s intelligence apparatus made requests to unmask the identity of Americans named in intelligence reports on behalf of Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. That’s what Power told the House Intelligence Committee last week during a closed-door interview.

I realize that it must be intensely humiliating for members of the Obama foreign policy team to see President Trump making good on his promise to eliminate ISIS. The rapid fall of the Jihad Caliphate is showing up the bloody fecklessness of the Obama administration, which, after the President ridiculed ISIS as the jayvee, was forced to lamely account for its failure effectively dispatch it. But Marie Harf has gone the extra mile into absurdity in dealing with the shame, actually trying to credit her former boss, President Obama, with the victory. She was, in other words, “harfing.” The Urban Dictionary now
