I went to Hollywood when I was 23. I had made a low-budget film, won an award at a prestigious festival, scored an agent and made a TV deal all within six months. It was a fairy tale most people will never experience, and I knew, as well as a 23-year-old can know anything, that I was getting a pretty great deal. I bounced from meeting to meeting with the joy of Cinderella at the ball. These meetings, almost always with men, were rife with acts of everyday sexism — the presumption that I must want to make small “intimate” movies,
Comments: I find it hard to believe that Lena Dunham was ever sex-harassed.
One could say this takes the cake, but Lena has assuredly already taken that. Every single one of these "progressive" men and women has eagerly put their slavish allegiance to the destructive Democrat party ahead of any moral decency, honesty, or actual concern for any victim of "sexual harassment" (in scare quotes because we must never let them determine what words mean). Remember Dunham´s repugnant campaign ad for Lightbringer, equating voting for him with sex? Most notable here is what she refuses to demand: accountability for the Clintons and Obamas. Why would that be, Lena? "Progressives" are always silent in the face of moral decline - because they´re the ones enabling it.
Lena seriously needs an editor. This rambling piece tells us what--that Hollywood is sexist? Duh! Here´s a question for her: Aren´t the women who take off their clothes for the camera and enact sex scenes (for her, too)at least a little bit complicit?
The stories of the casting couch have been around since Silent Movies, how many stories are there about even the heads of the old studios, never mind the directors. Young girls have been flooding California since the 1920´a trying to be famous and rich. And no one outs these guys until they are dead. Goo for Kim Novak telling Jack Warner where to go-but many did not want to give up their contracts and "dreams" and all the years of sacrifice. This is such an old, old story of Hollywood. Weinstein is not alone, and never mind the past, there are plenty of these guys still around. (note: I have a few relatives in the business)
What does Lena Dunham expect of men who were not the object of Weinstein´s lust, but only heard about it second hand from the grape vine? Women, on the other hand, have either been hustled by Weinstein himself or a reasonable facsimile, which in Hollywood are legion. Women know first hand, men only hear the tail end (no pun meant) of the gossip.
I don´t like this woman, but she is right about this. then she says she didn´t want to appear with him because he was so awful, but decided she could do it for Hillary´s sake. In other words, she blames other woman for putting up with it for their own reasons, and then put up with it for Hillary´s sake. that´s why this works, folks.
Lena the way you romped around nude on the set of Girls would give the impression you were easy to hit on. Is that a good message to send out to men like Harvey Weinstein? I do doubt Harvey would hit on you, I’m just saying. You also mock men are wary of losing “Good Graces” with Harvey if they came forward. Well how come this doesn’t apply to your idol Hillary who has not come forward, does she fear losing “Good Graces” from Harvey, or could it be his campaign donation money? Could it be Hillary does not want to return the campaign money. If so then her wonderful slogan she used as running for President “I’m With Her” just imploded.
Remember Linda Bloodworth-Thomason? The Hollywood writer from the Friends of Bill days, the crafter of President Clinton´s Monica Lewinsky talking points, the woman caught jumping on the bed in the rented out Lincoln Bedroom? With so many Hollywood denizens coming out of the woodwork in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Bloodworth-Thomason has a guest column for the Hollywood Reporter, decrying the culture of sexism such as she saw it herself in Hollywood, and then offering a half-baked old-hat Hollywoodish proposed solution about the girls teaming up to fight the establishment (as if that hadn´t been acted out before in
As wildfires continue to burn in California, here’s a look at the size of the burned areas compared to cities – and even a state. California’s major wildfires have burned more than 330 square miles, the state Governor’s Office of Emergency Service said Tuesday. That is about equal to the size of Sacramento, about 100.1 square miles; Fresno, about 114.7 square miles; San Francisco, about 46,87 square miles; and Oakland, about 77.86 square miles, combined. The area burned has surpassed the size of New York City’s five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island – which measure
After 10 days of battling wildfires throughout Northern California, firefighters are finally beginning to talk about having the upper hand. The Tubbs Fire in Sonoma County that destroyed hundreds of homes in Santa Rosa is 91 percent contained and fire personnel said Wednesday they have stopped the blaze’s forward progress. There are still some hot spots within the fire lines. “The fire is looking real good, so we’re feeling really good about that,” Santa Rosa Fire Chief Tony Gossner said at a midday press conference.
CNN political reporter Daniella Diaz sent a tweet on Monday pointing out that President Trump and Sen. Mitch McConnell locked hands while walking up stairs at the White House following their Rose Garden press conference. Diaz seemed to be mocking the Republican duo – but while followers quickly pointed out that the Kentucky senator is a polio survivor, the tweet remains on her feed nearly 24 hours later. “That hand-lock between Trump and McConnell, though,” Diaz wrote with video of the incident. A CNN colleague called out Diaz, quoting her tweet and explaining the situation. At the time this article was
Former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power is denying, emphatically, to Congress, that she ever requested 260 unmaskings of Americans caught up in intelligence surveillance dragnets during President Obama´s last year in office. She says someone else did it. The Daily Caller reports: Someone within the Obama administration’s intelligence apparatus made requests to unmask the identity of Americans named in intelligence reports on behalf of Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. That’s what Power told the House Intelligence Committee last week during a closed-door interview.
I realize that it must be intensely humiliating for members of the Obama foreign policy team to see President Trump making good on his promise to eliminate ISIS. The rapid fall of the Jihad Caliphate is showing up the bloody fecklessness of the Obama administration, which, after the President ridiculed ISIS as the jayvee, was forced to lamely account for its failure effectively dispatch it. But Marie Harf has gone the extra mile into absurdity in dealing with the shame, actually trying to credit her former boss, President Obama, with the victory. She was, in other words, “harfing.” The Urban Dictionary now
Jane Fonda made it clear she is not proud of America. During a recent interview with the BBC, Fonda was asked, "Are you proud of America today?" The actress was very quick to reply with a hard "no." "But, I’m proud of the resistance," she elaborated. "I’m proud of the people who are turning out in unprecedented numbers and continue over and over and over again to protest what Trump is doing. I’m very proud of them, that core." During the same interview, the 79-year-old was asked if she had a "sense of regret" for her visit to North Vietnam in 1972. The
A nurse fleeing California’s raging wildfires said “neigh” to leaving her pony behind. Lauren Mesaros decided to drive away from the Tubbs Fire flames Monday with her pony, Stardust, in the backseat, after realizing the trailer she had could only fit two of her three horses, SF Gate reported. “He actually walked right into the car like a dog would,” Mesaros said. The quick-acting woman lured her steed in the back of her 2001 Honda Accord, with the help of friend Carol Spears, whom she called “a horse whisperer.” Her sister-in-law posted a Facebook photo of the pony filling up the backseat, his snout
Google has a fairly good musical doodle today honoring Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, who was tragically murdered at age 23 in 1995 by a horrible fan who had stolen money from her. The doodle´s simplified, somewhat generic graphics clearly enough illustrate much of her biography – from a child who enjoyed singing into hairbrushes on her bed to a girl who joined her family in a band, and then to a young woman who went on to become a star. (Snip) But then you go to read the articles linked to the doodle, and you learn how ignorant Google´s graphic
Actress Michelle Yeoh said Tuesday that she was aware of Harvey Weinstein’s reputation and would have unleashed “years of martial arts training” on the fallen Hollywood mogul had he ever tried to sexually harass her. In a statement to Associated Press, the Malaysian star added to the chorus of female voices speaking out about the sexual harassment scandal surrounding Weinstein, who produced or distributed many of Yeoh’s films and TV shows. “Any man who treats women with such disrespect and contempt should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” said Yeoh, who stars in the new TV series Star
President Trump is busy doing the job the voters asked for him to do, but this isn´t stopping the mainstream press and other establishment cognoscenti from whining about "the Obama legacy" and the dreadful loss these actions by President Trmp this supposedly represent. According to Agence France-Presse: Brick by brick, the demolition job has begun: since taking office less than a year ago, Donald Trump has launched an all-out assault on the legacy of Barack Obama. Climate, free trade, health care, immigration, foreign policy -- the 45th US president has set about undoing just about everything done by the 44th. All new presidents, of
Andre Blakely was running back down the stairs after banging on doors around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning when he heard a voice coming from room 300: "Can someone help me?" Blakely, a maintenance worker at Varenna Oakmont Senior Living, an upscale retirement community in Santa Rosa, California, said he had spent the last hour frantically alerting dozens of elderly residents that they needed to head to the lobby as smoke from the deadliest wildfires in the state´s history reached their buildings. At almost 4 a.m., he said he was leaving the south building to get on a bus, dispatched at the last
Former President George W. Bush offered an unmistakable denunciation of Trumpism Thursday without mentioning the president by name, urging citizens to oppose threats to American democracy. “Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication,” Bush warned in remarks at the Bush Institute’s Spirit of Liberty event in New York. By chance, Bush was standing in the same spot at the Time Warner Center where former President Barack Obama made a similar plea for democracy and American leadership in late September, shortly after President Donald Trump had finished a belligerent, isolationist speech to the United Nations
Former President George W. Bush said Thursday that “bigotry seems emboldened” in the United States, warning that Americans need to reject “white supremacy.” The former president also criticized the “governing class,” but did not specifically mention President Trump, Congress or any other politicians in office. “Discontent deepened and sharpened partisan conflicts” in recent years, Bush said in remarks from New York City at a forum focused on security and sponsored by the George W. Bush Institute.
George W. Bush hinted Thursday at his dissatisfaction with Donald Trump, complaining in a New York City speech that ´bullying and prejudice´ has become a caustic norm in American public life. At an event hosted by the George W. Bush Institute, the 43rd U.S. president rattled off a thinly veiled litany of complaints about the current commander-in-chief, focusing on both his tone and his isolationist policy choices. ´Our young people need positive role models,´ he said. ´Bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone, provides permission for cruelty and bigotry, and compromises the moral education of children.´
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says players should stand for the national anthem, speaking out amid the furor over some players´ protests before games. "We believe everyone should stand for the national anthem. That´s an important part of our policy," Goodell said in a press conference Wednesday in New York. But Goodell said he would not commit to making a rule stating players must stand for the anthem. "Our players will state to you publicly they are not doing this in any way to be disrespectful to the flag," Goodell said. He said the league is "not looking to get into politics, but what
Democratic Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson is laughing and bragging after White House chief of staff John Kelly said he was “stunned” Thursday that Wilson criticized President Donald Trump’s call to the widow of a dead soldier. “You mean to tell me that I’ve become so important…that the White House is following me and my words? This is amazing. That’s amazing. That is absolutely phenomenal. I’ll have to tell my kids that I’m a rock star now,” Wilson told Miami Fox affiliate WSVN-TV, while laughing. (Snip) The congresswoman also bizarrely said, “The dog can bark at the moon all night long but
Damning new evidence appears to show that Hillary Clinton used her office as Secretary of State to confer benefits to Russia in exchange for millions of dollars in donations to her foundation and cash to her husband. But there’s more. It seems it was all covered up for years by the same three people who are now involved in the investigation of President Donald Trump over so-called Russian “collusion.” (Snip) What’s more, Holder was a member of the “Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States” which approved the uranium sale to the Russians in 2010.
A Massachusetts elementary school has canceled its Halloween events and is celebrating ´black and orange spirit day´ instead. Boyden Elementary School´s principal sent a letter to parents this week saying that it had decided to cancel its traditional Halloween parade on October 31 because it was ´not inclusive of all students´ and was ´difficult´ for many. Without specifying which students the parade excluded, Principal Brendan Dearborn said the school would instead hold a ´black and orange spirit day´. Children are allowed to dress in those colors but cannot come to school in costume. They are however allowed to wear costumes to an
Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News senior judicial analyst, weighed in on the report, telling FOX Business’ Stuart Varney on “Varney & Co.,” “The significance is an FBI acknowledgement that Huma Abedin, Mrs. Anthony Weiner, when she had a top security clearance as the number two assistant to Hillary Clinton when Hillary was Secretary of State, regularly sent copies of sensitive material to her own laptop so she could look at it at night, either knowing or forgetting that her husband had access to it as well.” Napolitano said this gives insight into the State Department’s casual approach to top secret
WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.” Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according
WASHINGTON — A young Barack Obama questioned his place in the world and his racial identity, agonized over whether he´d make enough money as a community organizer, and lamented his incompatibility with his ex-girlfriend in 30 pages of letters he wrote to her that are now being archived by Emory University in Atlanta. (Snip) "My ideas aren´t as crystallized as they were while in school, but they have an immediacy and weight that may be more useful if and when I´m less observer and more participant," Obama wrote in 1984 to McNear, who was a student at a California college
The tale of Harvey Weinstein is now a thread that has tangled its way through Hollywood, connecting women, mostly actresses, in a depressingly common way. We all seem to have a Harvey story, each one a little different but with essentially the same nauseating pattern and theme. Women were bullied, cajoled, manipulated, and worse, and then punished. My Harvey story is different, mostly because of timing. I was in one of the first films that Weinstein produced. I accepted a supporting role in a small movie based on “Loser Takes All,” the short novel by Graham Greene. I was twenty years
For fark’s sake. The guy’s accused of rape, by more than one woman. What sort of behavior does she think “invited” that? Even his somewhat less egregious offenses are inexplicable in terms of an invitation. Does anyone think Lauren Sivan put out the vibe upon meeting famous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein that she was hoping to watch him furtively whack it into a potted plant in a dark corner of an empty restaurant kitchen? The more aggressive harassment is, the harder it is to explain in terms of a misconstrued female “invitation.” Actual assault is plainly indefensible, yet here’s Eddie
