The world’s tropical forests are so degraded they have become a source rather than a sink of carbon emissions, according to a new study that highlights the urgent need to protect and restore the Amazon and similar regions. Researchers found that forest areas in South America, Africa and Asia – which have until recently played a key role in absorbing greenhouse gases – are now releasing 425 teragrams of carbon annually, which is more than all the traffic in the United States. (Snip) “This shows that we can’t just sit back. The forest is not doing what we thought it was doing,”
Comments: Science is a flexible marvel when you´ve got an agenda to peddle.
"The forest is not doing what we thought it was doing,” ... Yeah, and your "sophisticated" climate models have failed, again and again to predict climate reality ... and now we see reports according to data from The Danish Meteorological Institute, since hitting its earliest minimum extent since 1997, Arctic sea ice has been expanding at a phenomenal rate. It is the fourth highest extent in the last ten years. Even more remarkably, ice growth since the start of the month is actually the greatest on record, since daily figures started to be kept in 1987. As such, we are sick-to-death of these effin morons who are on a 24/7/365 mission to control all human energy-related activity on the planet. The know nothing and they can predict nothing except "The Sky is Falling" over and over and over .... ENOUGH!
´´The study went further than any of its predecessors in measuring the impact of disturbance and degradation – the thinning of tree density and the culling of biodiversity below an apparently protected canopy – usually as a result of selective logging, fire, drought and hunting.´´
Do scientists think they need to stop God from causing droughts? For the good of the world, they could confiscate guns. Scientists know best after all. [/s]
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! So for how many decades were we harangued at and lectured to supposedly because humans were destroying the ´delicate eco-balance of the rain forests´?
I really think if we put a bunch of enviro crazies in a venue on pay per view, we could settle the budget debt overnight. The entertainment value would be epic watching them try to explain this one away.
Pure speculation. The morons that produced this study probably just got a huge grant to carry on their ´research´. That´s the way the research industry works. Getting published some where just gives you more bonafides.
The US political class started the CO2 racket and keeps it alive today. They force us to pay billions every year to the UN which is another weapon used against us. It is the US political class that every year forces us to pay for unelected, unaccountable, above the law, UN criminal parasites. No UN personnel can be punished for any crime anywhere in the world. They all have immunity. US taxpayers are forced to finance mass rapists called peacekeepers who can rape all they want and are never punished.
Years ago I read that rotting vegetation in the Rain Forest™ released more methane and CO2 than all the cars in the world. But that fact was seldom shared by the media. As I have said many times, we were supposed to be freezing to death now, according to my high school social studies class.
Alarmists look at the pieces and then predict the whole. The problem is, the whole picture doesn´t match what they predict. Their pieces don´t add up to the correct whole.
That means that either their piece is wrong or there are more pieces yet to find. Either way they are wrong.
So not as much carbon is being sequestered in the rain forest as expected. Alarmist urge "action". How about other forests and plants in the world? Are they more effective? No study will tell you because "all the other forests and plants" is too large to study.
In addition, the question is, "So what?". Alarmists have laid down predictions as carbon levels rise. Higher global temperatures - Satellites say no. Sea levels rising faster - no. Stronger and more frequent storms - despite the hurricane weather this year, the cyclonic energy measurements are not increasing. Massive ice melt - except in some specific areas, some with seafloor volcanoes, not so much.
If none of the Alarmist harbingers of disaster are occurring as CO2 levels rise, WHAT "action" is necessary? Will it really become a problem in the future?
The truthful answer is "No one really knows.". Should we spend $trillions on "actions" that are predicted to be ineffective anyway, even if the predictions are not accurate to begin with. A sensible person would not.
If someone said, "Your car is going to break down. Pay me $2000 a year to "fix" it.", would you? No details of why it would break down. No details of the kind of fix available and whether it would even be effective. Most people would accuse a peddler of such car calamities as a charlatan.
Alarm indeed, yet another in a long string of false alarms.
Oh, MG! This is so stupid, I am having trouble believing it. Do these so-called "C´lie mate "scientists" read anything they put in print? If this wanted to gain credibility, it would be a topic in the old ´Katzenjammer Kids´ cartoon strip. If Clive cussler wrote this in one of his novels, no one would buy the book for laughability and lack of sensible plot! Really, it should be obvious to anyone these "scientists" are really just a bunch of snake oil salesmen!
It´s time we claw back all the trillions of dollars ever spent on all these climate pseudo-science frauds. Stop all there plans for "saving the world", again and again. And put them where they and all other crooks and frauds belong, in prison. Also, time to roll up all the useless government agencies and NGO offices too. Think of it this way lefties....we can use the money saved to pay for some of the Obamacare/McCain 50% rate increases scheduled for next year.
Lawrence Livermore Labs did a study back in 2001 that found the same thing. "Save the earth, cut down trees." BTW, there is no such thing as "fossil" fuel. The earth makes hydrocarbons, not from dead plants and animals.
These alarmist scientists and their lying partners in the media have two choices. continue the lie and every now and then create something new to inject even more panic to attract grants or teach classes so future scientists can work the same scam.
Here´s a REAL shocker for the science-challenged leftists... Trees are made from CO2! Yes, they really are! If tress are "good" then we need more CO2 to make more trees! It´s logically sound! It´s also against Global Warmists´ plan!
Another fact: Trees (all plants) give off CO2 at night. Logical conclusion: "Trees are bad! Cut down all trees!"
Poor conflicted leftists... it´s Tree-Huggers vs. Global Warmongers now.
Remember when Global Warming became Climate Change? It was, as Ldotters followed, because the temperatures did not rise for several years the way the Warmers had insisted they would.
Here we also watched as researchers discovered that the oxygen production of the rain forests during daytime photosynthesis was mostly offset by the oxygen consumption during nighttime respiration.
This study represents their effort to hide the globalwarming-climatechange lie again, as they now admit that the planet´s ´lungs´ are not really so. But they´ve spun it to portray them as filters, instead of lungs, and to blame the change on human environmental destruction, not on the distortion of their model.
The truth slowly unfolds, as their cover story adapts to keep pace with their global-socialism agenda.
After heavy pressure from lawmakers and other stakeholders, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on Thursday night sided with pro-ethanol lawmakers and said his agency will abandon many controversial changes to the nation’s ethanol mandate — prompting a top biofuels leader to claim that Mr. Pruitt apparently has had an “epiphany” over the past few days. In a letter to seven key senators, Mr. Pruitt — who had been critical of ethanol during his time as Oklahoma attorney general — shot down several major concerns about looming adjustments to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), the federal law that requires the blending of
Donald Trump suggested in tweets early on Wednesday that former FBI director James Comey had decided to spare Hillary Clinton from prosecution “long before investigation was complete” into her government email practices, calling the process “a fix”. “FBI confirms report that James Comey drafted letter exonerating Crooked Hillary Clinton long before investigation was complete,” Trump tweeted, continuing, “Many people not interviewed, including Clinton herself. Comey stated under oath that he didn’t do this-obviously a fix? Where is Justice Dept?” Trump was referring to documents released by the FBI on Monday which show that Comey had composed a draft entitled: “Drafts of
A predominately black elementary school in Jackson, Mississippi, named after Confederate President Jefferson Davis, will be renamed after former President Barack Obama, leaders announced Tuesday. Davis Magnet IB PTA President Janelle Jefferson said during the Jackson Public Schools Board of Trustees meeting that school stakeholders voted earlier this month to rename the school Barack Obama Magnet IB, a move that will go into effect for the 2018-19 school year, The Clarion Ledger reported. (Snip) “We really wanted to know what they thought,” Ms. Jefferson said. “They could relate to Barack Obama because of his achievements, because he looks like them.”
The U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) issued a detainer request on the Sonoma County Jail for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of arson in Wine Country fires that have killed at least 40 residents. Breitbart News reported earlier this week that Sonoma County Sheriffs had arrested Jesus Fabian Gonzalez, 29, at Maxwell Regional Park in Sonoma County after a series of reports of ongoing fires in the region. (Snip) Mr. Gonzalez, who is homeless and reportedly known by law enforcement to have been living under a nearby bridge, claimed he was cold and had lit the
The head of MI5 today warned Britain is facing the biggest terror threat of his 34 year career - as he said tech giants have an ´ethical responsibility´ to crack down on extremists. Andrew Parker said extremists are mounting deadly terror attacks with just a few days of planning as the UK sees a ´dramatic´ jump in the scale and pace of the threat. In his annual ´state of the union´ assessment of the threat facing the UK, he said extremists are exploiting ´safe spaces´ online, hindering intelligence efforts to root them out. And he issued a fresh challenge to technology firms,
Philadelphia — When U.S. Sen. John McCain was a younger man, once or twice he was tasked with carrying Joe Biden´s luggage. On Monday, after Biden, the former U.S. vice president, awarded McCain with the National Constitution Center´s Liberty Medal, McCain was sure to let everyone know he hadn´t forgotten. "I´ve resented it ever since," McCain said on the lawn of the Philadelphia museum as he accepted the award for his lifetime of sacrifice and service to the country. (Snip) "The son of a gun never carried my bags," said Biden, a Democrat. "He was supposed to carry my bags;
President Trump said Monday that he’s eyeing another major government reform — this time tackling welfare. He said some recipients are taking advantage of public assistance while others in need don’t get it. “We are looking very, very strongly therefore at welfare reform,” Mr. Trump told reporters at the start of a Cabinet meeting at the White House. The mention of welfare reform was unexpected. He rarely mentioned the topic during the campaign and has been consumed with other ambitious plans since taking office. Mr. Trump is currently trying to push a major tax-code overhaul through Congress, a huge undertaken
Morehouse College board members have chosen the former dean of Georgetown University’s business school to lead the Atlanta-based, historically black college for men. The board voted late Sunday to name David A. Thomas the college’s 12th president. (Snip) Thomas said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution his goals include increasing enrollment from its current 2,200 students to 2,500 students, providing more scholarships, finding opportunities for every student to study abroad, supporting faculty research and engaging in issues that improve outcomes for African-American men, noting Morehouse “is a place where we can offer solutions to those issues.”
A group of Georgia cheerleaders say they´ll take a knee in the stadium tunnel when the national anthem is played at Saturday´s homecoming game since their university moved them off the field after an earlier demonstration. Kennesaw State University cheerleader Shlondra Young tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the so-called "Kennesaw Five" will kneel until the U.S. flag "represents what it should." (Snip) Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren tells The Marietta Daily Journal he called the school president after that game and was assured the demonstration would not happen again. School officials say they moved the cheerleaders off the field before
Mogadishu, Somalia — The most powerful bomb blast ever witnessed in Somalia´s capital killed 276 people with around 300 others injured, the country´s information minister said early Monday, making it the deadliest single attack in this Horn of Africa nation. The toll was expected to rise. In a tweet, Abdirahman Osman called the attack "barbaric" and said countries including Turkey and Kenya had already offered to send medical aid. Hospitals were overwhelmed a day after a truck bomb targeted a crowded street near key government ministries, including foreign affairs. As angry protesters gathered near the scene of the attack, Somalia´s
Lost in the uproar over the NFL sideline protests against police brutality are newly released statistics showing that the threat to black men is skyrocketing — not from trigger-happy or racist cops, but from crime. More than any other demographic group, black men are paying the price with their lives with a surging violent crime rate over the past two years, including a 20 percent jump in the overall homicide rate, even as the number of blacks killed by police declines. Using homicide figures from the 2016 FBI Uniform Crime Report released Sept. 25, Manhattan Institute fellow Heather Mac Donald
A 39-year-old man in the country illegally pleaded guilty Thursday to causing a traffic crash that killed a Johnson County sheriff’s deputy last year. Adrian Espinosa-Flores, 39, pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless second-degree murder in the death of Master Deputy Brandon Collins. Collins was killed on Sept. 11, 2016, while conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 69 just north of 151st Street in Overland Park. Collins’ patrol vehicle was parked when a pickup truck driven by Espinosa-Flores ran into the back of Collins’ vehicle, pushing it into the SUV that the deputy had pulled over.
Former President George W. Bush offered an unmistakable denunciation of Trumpism Thursday without mentioning the president by name, urging citizens to oppose threats to American democracy. “Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication,” Bush warned in remarks at the Bush Institute’s Spirit of Liberty event in New York. By chance, Bush was standing in the same spot at the Time Warner Center where former President Barack Obama made a similar plea for democracy and American leadership in late September, shortly after President Donald Trump had finished a belligerent, isolationist speech to the United Nations
Former President George W. Bush said Thursday that “bigotry seems emboldened” in the United States, warning that Americans need to reject “white supremacy.” The former president also criticized the “governing class,” but did not specifically mention President Trump, Congress or any other politicians in office. “Discontent deepened and sharpened partisan conflicts” in recent years, Bush said in remarks from New York City at a forum focused on security and sponsored by the George W. Bush Institute.
George W. Bush hinted Thursday at his dissatisfaction with Donald Trump, complaining in a New York City speech that ´bullying and prejudice´ has become a caustic norm in American public life. At an event hosted by the George W. Bush Institute, the 43rd U.S. president rattled off a thinly veiled litany of complaints about the current commander-in-chief, focusing on both his tone and his isolationist policy choices. ´Our young people need positive role models,´ he said. ´Bullying and prejudice in our public life sets a national tone, provides permission for cruelty and bigotry, and compromises the moral education of children.´
Democratic Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson is laughing and bragging after White House chief of staff John Kelly said he was “stunned” Thursday that Wilson criticized President Donald Trump’s call to the widow of a dead soldier. “You mean to tell me that I’ve become so important…that the White House is following me and my words? This is amazing. That’s amazing. That is absolutely phenomenal. I’ll have to tell my kids that I’m a rock star now,” Wilson told Miami Fox affiliate WSVN-TV, while laughing. (Snip) The congresswoman also bizarrely said, “The dog can bark at the moon all night long but
Damning new evidence appears to show that Hillary Clinton used her office as Secretary of State to confer benefits to Russia in exchange for millions of dollars in donations to her foundation and cash to her husband. But there’s more. It seems it was all covered up for years by the same three people who are now involved in the investigation of President Donald Trump over so-called Russian “collusion.” (Snip) What’s more, Holder was a member of the “Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States” which approved the uranium sale to the Russians in 2010.
A Massachusetts elementary school has canceled its Halloween events and is celebrating ´black and orange spirit day´ instead. Boyden Elementary School´s principal sent a letter to parents this week saying that it had decided to cancel its traditional Halloween parade on October 31 because it was ´not inclusive of all students´ and was ´difficult´ for many. Without specifying which students the parade excluded, Principal Brendan Dearborn said the school would instead hold a ´black and orange spirit day´. Children are allowed to dress in those colors but cannot come to school in costume. They are however allowed to wear costumes to an
Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News senior judicial analyst, weighed in on the report, telling FOX Business’ Stuart Varney on “Varney & Co.,” “The significance is an FBI acknowledgement that Huma Abedin, Mrs. Anthony Weiner, when she had a top security clearance as the number two assistant to Hillary Clinton when Hillary was Secretary of State, regularly sent copies of sensitive material to her own laptop so she could look at it at night, either knowing or forgetting that her husband had access to it as well.” Napolitano said this gives insight into the State Department’s casual approach to top secret
WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.” Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according
For fark’s sake. The guy’s accused of rape, by more than one woman. What sort of behavior does she think “invited” that? Even his somewhat less egregious offenses are inexplicable in terms of an invitation. Does anyone think Lauren Sivan put out the vibe upon meeting famous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein that she was hoping to watch him furtively whack it into a potted plant in a dark corner of an empty restaurant kitchen? The more aggressive harassment is, the harder it is to explain in terms of a misconstrued female “invitation.” Actual assault is plainly indefensible, yet here’s Eddie
WASHINGTON — A young Barack Obama questioned his place in the world and his racial identity, agonized over whether he´d make enough money as a community organizer, and lamented his incompatibility with his ex-girlfriend in 30 pages of letters he wrote to her that are now being archived by Emory University in Atlanta. (Snip) "My ideas aren´t as crystallized as they were while in school, but they have an immediacy and weight that may be more useful if and when I´m less observer and more participant," Obama wrote in 1984 to McNear, who was a student at a California college
The two most recent presidents on Thursday blasted the state of US politics in events that were separated by less than 20 miles. First, it was former President George W. Bush. The most recent former Republican president lambasted a political culture that caused "bigotry" to seem "emboldened." The public comments were Bush´s most pointed since President Donald Trump took office in January. "In recent decades, public confidence in our institutions has declined," the 43rd president said at an event in New York hosted by his namesake institute. "Our governing class has often been paralyzed
Hey, mainstream media! We finally found it — a real Russia scandal involving the 2016 election. With actual evidence of criminal wrongdoing and everything! So come on, New York Times, CNN and MSNBC, let’s ... Hey, where’d everybody go? For months I’ve been doing TV hits as the token conservative and getting grilled over “Russiagate.” Did Donald Trump and the Russians collude to steal the election from Hillary Clinton? And for months I’ve been asking the same questions: Where is the evidence of an actual crime? And since “collusion” isn’t necessarily against the law, what actual crime are Democrats and their media
