People who claim to be shocked that Donald Trump is prepared to make an amnesty deal for the"Dreamers" -- most of whom are Mexicans who entered the USA at around the age of six -- are being more than a tad disingenuous. The president has been hinting as much for over a year to anyone paying attention. In fact, it´s hard to conceive how he could have done otherwise, considering the (excuse the cliché) "optics" of shipping 800,000 young people back to a homeland they may never have seen. The question is what your definition of amnesty is. It´s a
Children of illegal immigrants must be deported with their parents in accordance with the law. If we don´t like this law, we can elect representatives to change the law. Until we do so, pontificating garbage opinions about so-called "dreamers" is just an emission of intellectual flatulence.
They all vote thanks to DMV (Dept of Mexican Voters) motor voter laws that lets them register Democrat when the apply for their DL. So what if they lie and check the box that says they are a US citizen. They do it all the time and I have never heard of anyone being prosecuted.
Isn´t this the result of Obama´s flood of "unaccompanied"minors who poured across the border without parents?? So now those children´s families have come in and want the handouts. No amnesty, no chain immigration, nothing. They are illegal!!!
I have no problem with them voting under one circumstance: That they serve honorably in a branch of the US military for a minimum of 8 years. Then they automatically get citizenship and with it voting rights. They earned it.
Otherwise, they are "guests" in this country, and must obey the law -- which includes NOT voting!!!
Simon should know better. If the Dreamers are allowed stay in the U.S. they will eventually obtain the franchise. The courts will see to it.
But that´s OK with me, as long as the bad actors among them are weeded out, jailed and/or deported. The legislation Congress has been asked to put together and pass will be somewhat complicated and subject to court challenge.
A lot of people will be dissatisfied with the final resolution of this thorny issue. You can shout "No Amnesty!" until you´re blue in the face, but there is a roiling stew of factors at work and others due to come into play.
I do believe this, though: with DT as president the final result will be the best obtainable.
Why should they get to jump the line, when people all over the world have jumped thru the hoops, waited years and paid the expenses to become a citizen? The blame is on their parents, not the system. Check the laws of any other nation in the world and see what their laws are concerning illegal immigrants.
Democrats move in one direction, that of increasing the leaders´ political power. No matter what terms the R´s were to agree to, the moment the D´s regained power, anything costing the Democrat Party votes would be promptly swept away. Recall Reagan who foolishly trusted the D´s about the "last amnesty" with the D´s pledge to build the wall. Reagan gave way on the amnesty, and the Dems promptly cancelled funding for the wall. Smart people cannot trust Dems. Anyone who trusts Dems knows nothing. The Dems are not only dishonest, they are treacherous.
I still maintain that congress MUST change existing laws if the Dreamers are to stay, and President Trump is giving them six months to do that. I don´t think they have the nerve to do it. It would be political suicide to pass laws to open our borders; therefore, existing laws will be followed, in my opinion.
Ahh... You might wanna catch up on things in the Washington ComPost there Roger ...
"The Washington suburb of College Park, Md., on Tuesday became the largest U.S. city to allow noncitizens to cast ballots in municipal elections after a divided City Council vote that reflected the nation’s heated and emotional debate over illegal immigration ..."
Let the dreamers stay and send the parents back. No voting rights, no welfare, no chain immigration, no amnesty. They must carry ID with them at all times and show it whenever asked for. Since they will become a ´special´ class of people, they must report to a yet to be established agency. Their children will not become citizens when born. They will just ´dream on.´ Now what I have layed out would discourage me from coming here, which is the point.
So get ready folks. Millions of ´dreamers´ are going to be allowed to vote. These millions of democrat voters will cancel out our votes guaranteed. This is the unintended consequence of taking pity on illegal aliens. Pretty soon there will be no pretense of having 2 partys. There will only be one. And I´m not referring to the uniparty.
First of all, a LAW must be passed; no Executive only action. The dems MUST put their money where their mouths are.
I could see some type of process for people already here but until border security is beefed up, NO conclusion to the process. They MUST follow the process to citizenship; classes, etc. Maybe even some additional requirements and a wait time. If the wall isn´t done, NO citizenship. No citizenship, NO voting. Serious criminal illegals need not apply.
People illegally crossing the border now or later are NOT eligible.
Agree, amnesty recipients should only be granted a conditional/temporary immigration status valid indefinitely as long as the recipient obeys all US laws. That conditional/temporary status should allow them to live and work in the USA and to travel internationally. They should not be able to bring foreign relatives into the USA, or serve as an anchor relative for their family members to be granted amnesty. There should be no possible progression to permanent resident alien (green card) immigration status or US citizenship unless the recipient applies for and is granted a permanent resident immigration status under the regular immigration laws as all legal immigrants are required to do.
The vote hungry liberal Democrats will not like that, but that should be the extent of President Trump´s concession to the DACA illegal aliens. It is their illegal alien parents fault that they were brought into the USA unlawfully and that´s where the blame lies, not with the immigration laws or the President.
I strongly suspect a sizable percentage of "dreamers" have already voted. What´s just as bad is that among the real political movers and shakers within the GOP, none of them give a rat´s patootie what anyone on a largely conservative news site thinks. We are precisely the Americans that the global communists and their uniparty beards wish to silence and disenfranchise. We are essentially expressing mostly similar opinions to one another. The legislative and executive branch pols would come closer to listening to the BLM rioters in St. Louis, antifa, or the Mexican Mafia housed in our respective state prisons. They gladly suck up our money and our votes but are closer ideologically to the NYT and WaPo.
IF the so-called ´Dreamers´ (notice how the left gives their pets ´nice´ sounding names? -Illegal Aliens become ´Dreamers´ -Homosexuals become ´Gay´.)
If the Illegal Immigrants (II´s) are allowed to stay, they will be allowed to vote as soon as a ´Rat President is in office and issues an executive order ordering the end of any enforcement of Voter ID laws, OR works with a leftist ´Rat-appointed federal judge to rule that ALL voter ID laws are ´unconstitutional´..... and the legal fight gets strung out for years, meantime with the II´s voting 90-100% ´Rat, over whelming the American citizens and installing ´Rat politicians, who will appoint ´Rat judges, and the feedback cycle continues.
It´s as plain as the nose on your face. We saw this happen with the Federal government forcing homosexual marriage on all the states, regardless of what the Citizens of the various states voted for. We live in perilous times.
OMB Director Mick Mulvaney is one of the all-stars among President Trump’s cabinet level appointees. President Trump had the inspired idea to appoint him acting director of the constitutional monstrosity known as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau when Richard Cordray departed to run for elective office. Before his departure, however, in the lawless spirit of the bureau itself, Cordray sought to name his own successor. We admired his performance facing down the media in “Mulvaney meets the press.” With the help of her Democrat friends riding high in the Obama era, Elizabeth Warren designed the bureau in her own imperious image.
We’ve passed midnight here in the East, so the government shutdown has commenced, at least technically. As I type this, Senators are milling around on the Senate floor presumably trying to work out some sort of arrangement that will fully fund the government for a little while longer. Meanwhile, the White House, via Sarah Sanders, has issued this statement: Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans. We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their
WASHINGTON — The federal government shut down at the stroke of midnight Friday, halting all but the most essential operations and marring the one-year anniversary of President Donald Trump’s inauguration in a striking display of Washington dysfunction. Last-minute negotiations crumbled as Senate Democrats blocked a four-week stopgap extension in a late-night vote, causing the fourth government shutdown in a quarter century. The slide toward closure lacked for high drama: The Senate vote was all but predetermined, and since the shutdown began at the start of a weekend, many of the immediate effects will be muted for most Americans. Still, it comes with
LOS ANGELES — Rocker Tom Petty died last year from "multisystem organ failure" caused by accidental drug toxicity, the Los Angeles County Coroner said Friday. An autopsy found that Petty had several drugs in his system including fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl, the agency said. "A lot of these are found in prescription drugs," said Brian Elias, a coroner’s spokesman. He had just wrapped up a tour a few days before he died on Oct. 2 at age 66. His wife and daughter released the results of Petty’s autopsy via a statement on his Facebook page Friday night. Dana and
The problem with lying is that it always comes back to bite you in the butt. Any kid could tell you that. You know, first you just tell a little lie, to get out of doing your homework, say. Something like, “Oh, the teacher says we don’t have any homework tonight.” And when your mom asks why not, you’ve got to tell her something so you say, “The teacher’s too busy to grade any homework this weekend.” And before you know it, you’re telling an elaborate story about the teacher’s German Shepherd having cancer because he swallowed the pen she
Tonight, the Senate failed to approve a funding bill that would have kept the government fully open and operating for the time being. Nearly every Republican Senator voted for the bill. The only exceptions were two pro-amnesty Senators — Lindsey Graham and Jeff Flake — and two anti-spending hardliners — Rand Paul and Mike Lee. Nearly every Democratic Senator voted against the bill. The only exceptions were five Red State Dems — Claire McCaskill, Joe Manchin, Joe Donnelly, Heidi Heitkamp, and Jones — four of whom (all but Jones) are up for reelection this year. Clearly, then, the shutdown (actually a partial
Congratulations on finding this article if you used Google. A civil rights lawsuit filed this week revealed its search engine blacklists authors and ideas distasteful to the company. Google engineer James Damore’s class action complaint describes a creepy cult-like orthodoxy at Google, where dissent is smashed, and the color of your skin is far more important than the content of your character. Reading the complaint is a deep dive into wicked, racial groupthink, and a frightening reminder that it really can happen here. At Google, it does. I met James Damore at a conference last November after he received an award for
It’s not terribly impressive to destroy a straw man. It’s even less impressive when you attack a straw man and fail to destroy it. That’s what David Ignatius failed to do in his recent Washington Post opinion article headlined “The truth about the FBI’s Russia probe.” He tells a story about the agency’s use of a Hillary Clinton-funded opposition research document known as a dossier that he says exonerates the FBI and makes its critics look bad. The dossier has been driving news coverage of Russia since it was legitimized via a leak to major media a year ago. The dossier alleges
The Washington Post recently published an article headlined: “Why ‘social justice warriors’ are the true defenders of free speech and open debate.” Written by Matthew Sears of the University of New Brunswick, the piece is an academic fantasy. Sears might as well have opened his article by declaring: “Let us begin by setting aside all the facts.” Even if the clickbait headline, which the author likely did not write himself, is set aside, the article is ridiculous. It attempts to graft a bland discussion of Socrates, philosophical history, and educational theory onto a defiant vindication of social justice warriors as the
SPRING HILL — A 38-year-old Tampa man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving under the influence involving drugs or alcohol after deputies said he mistook a Bank of America drive-through for a Taco Bell. The branch manager of the Mariner Boulevard bank said they saw Douglas Jon Francisco passed out in his blue Hyundai sedan while it sat in the drive-up bank lane, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. This was about 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The manager said they started banging on the Hyundai’s window "for some time," according a deputy’s report, before Francisco finally woke up. Then Francisco
At last, a Florida (and even better, Tampa!) connection to the roiling controversy about the personal attorney for President Donald Trump paying $130,000 to porn star Stormy Daniels one month before the 2016 election to keep quiet about an affair from 10 years before. In a 2011 interview with In Touch, five years before the payment but just published this week, Daniels talked about her interactions with Trump, which included a promise of a condo in Trump Tower Tampa. "I was talking about how I was going to be moving to Tampa at the time and he told me he was going
Former Major League Baseball pitcher Roy Halladay died from blunt force trauma with drowning as a contributing factor when he crashed his personal plane into the water off New Port Richey in November, according to an autopsy report released Friday. Halladay, an All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, was 40 years old. He had retired to the Tampa Bay region, lived in Odessa and helped coach the baseball team at Calvary Christian High School, where his oldest son Braden played. He was an avid flyer who owned an ICON A5 — an amphibious two-seat plane with foldable wings.
The White House says it will not negotiate with the Democrats on immigration until the end of the federal government shutdown. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says in a statement that, “We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands.” She adds, “When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform.” The government shut down at midnight after Congress failed to pass a spending deal. Sanders says, “Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown,” adding,
1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis ripped President Trump´s new tax law and offered optimism for Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. Dukakis, a former governor of the Bay State during the so-called economic "Massachusetts Miracle," said Republicans have lost their way when it comes to supporting fiscal responsibility. He questioned why they would champion a tax plan that may have costly ramifications for the national deficit. (Snip) "We just passed a tax bill, which I think is a piece of garbage," Dukakis, who lost his presidential bid to then-Vice President George Bush, said. "Look at these companies, though, that are
Former FBI director James B. Comey is joining the faculty of his alma mater, the College of William & Mary, and plans to teach a course on ethical leadership at the school’s Washington center starting in the fall. Comey, whom President Trump fired last year, will have a nontenured position as an executive professor in education, the school announced Friday. His course will be offered through the W&M Washington Center to students of the public college based in Williamsburg, Va. Comey will teach the course in fall 2018, spring 2019 and summer 2019 with executive assistant professor Drew Stelljes.
During his town hall tour across Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has given explicit notice to pro-life Canadians that their beliefs on abortion make them second-class citizens. (Snip) According to the article, Trudeau warned that "an organization that has the explicit purpose of restricting women´s rights by removing rights to abortion, the right for women to control their own bodies, is not in line with where we are as a government and quite frankly where we are as a society." According to Trudeau, his tongue-lashing of pro-life groups was prompted by responses to a change to who can receive grants as
More than 130 congressional members have viewed the classified four-page memo detailing what senior government officials describe as “disturbing and explosive” surveillance abuse by employees of the FBI and Department of Justice under the Obama administration against President Trump and members of his campaign. But almost all of them were Republicans. Since the document was released Thursday to House members “only Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have seen it,” a congressional source with knowledge of the memo said. (Snip) Congressional officials expect the classified memo to be made available to the public before the end of the month. In order to
Far from content living his golden years on the $400,000 speech and lecture circuit of other former presidents, President Obama has been busy with clawing back for his old power. He´s actually covertly plotting to oust his democratically elected successor, President Trump, vowing to his associates to "rip him a new one," in the 2018 midterm elections. Seems he´s not all that interested in watching his youngest daughter grow up. That´s the word from DCWhispers, which reports that Obama´s Kalorama mansion, in the heart of the capital´s most tony district, is the center of significant comings and goings among the Obamatons,
For the second time in less than a year, New York Jets wide receiver Robby Anderson was arrested in Florida, and this time, cops say, he threatened to sexually assault the arresting officer´s wife. Anderson, 24, who was arrested at around 2:15am for going 105 miles-per-hour in a 45 zone, was placed in the back of the police vehicle and ´stated that when he got out he was going to find (the officer´s) wife, f--k her and n-t in her eye,´ according to the the police report with the Broward County Sheriff´s Office. According to the Daily News, the police
There’s a ghost haunting Elizabeth Warren as she ramps up for a possible 2020 presidential bid and a reelection campaign in Massachusetts this year: her enduring and undocumented claims of Native American ancestry. Warren says now, as she has from the first days of her public life, that she based her assertions on family lore, on her reasonable trust in what she was told about her ancestry as a child. “I know who I am,” she said in a recent interview with the Globe. But that self-awareness may not be enough, as her political ambitions blossom.
The burn continues. What follows are 138 years of scientific records tracing the human transformation of Earth’s climate. The bold pink line up top represents 2017, the third-hottest on record. The only years to exceed it—2015 and 2016—occurred amid a powerful El Nino weather pattern that ripped heat from the Pacific Ocean into the atmosphere. In the absence of El Nino, the swelter of 2017 was unprecedented.
Immigrants entering the United States illegally through the southern border are quietly being relocated to different parts of the country on commercial flights, high-ranking Homeland Security officials told Judicial Watch this week. In the last few days alone, groups of illegal aliens boarded planes at airports in Texas and Arizona accompanied by a taxpayer-funded government escort in civilian clothes to avoid drawing attention. The first flight originated at Valley International Airport in Harlingen, Texas and was bound for Minneapolis. (Snip) The illegal aliens wear red HHS wrist bands and receive “the gold glove treatment,” according to a veteran federal official,
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) has become "sort of the Steve King of the Senate," a reference to one of the House´s most ardent immigration hardliners. In an interview with MSNBC, Graham, who has advocated for legislative protections for young, undocumented immigrants, rejected the notion of ending family-based immigration in exchange for enshrining the protections of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program into law. A proposal by Cotton and Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) seeks to end so-called chain migration, which allows U.S. citizens and permanent residents to sponsor family members abroad to
Comic book readers are apparently not fans of progressive politics—a fact no more evident in Marvel’s decision to cancel every single one of its comics that has been nominated by the LGBTQ advocacy group, GLAAD. In December, the publisher announced its decision to cancel many of its comics, citing poor sales. LGBTQ, feminist, and social justice-themed comics involving stories that revolved around Black Lives Matter, illegal immigration, and LGBTQ issues were among those to end up on the chopping block.
