It saddens me that Pope Francis refuses to recognize the pro-life intentions and actions of President Trump. The president has made good on his promises to pro-life voters, starting on his first day in office with his restoration of the Mexico City Policy, which he later expanded. Federal funds can no longer pay for abortions overseas. And there is more, not the least of which is the presence of Justice Neil Gorsuch on the U.S. Supreme Court. But rather than applauding the president’s actions, Pope Francis has attempted to co-opt the meaning of “pro-life” to include his preferred immigration policies. Speaking
Looking for a silver lining here, better for Trump not to appear to be the Pope´s toy. If the Pope were otherwise, people would say Trump was being dominated by Catholic Melania, in secret. As it is, they are misunderstood and rejected by the Papacy, which is nearly a condition of later canonization it is so very common. Thus: All is well! And pew-sitting Catholics will not care at all, even if they say they do. The pro-lifers Love Trump.
as a Catholic i can say this aint my fave pope, however he is NOT the Church or the MAgisterium He too will pass. He is a socialist so you gotta factor it in. Church teachings are not changeable---he can interpret what he wants but the teachings are not affected by politics they are above politics..
I researched and found EXACTLY what Pope Francis said about all this DACA stuff. I also heard Father Jonathan Morris explain it on Tucker Carlson. It seems that what was reported was NOT really what was said, and real comments were favorable toward U S immigration policy on illegals. I feel better now. I found little to disagree with in his.
I think the thing the Pope is most guilty of is speaking "off the cuff" to idiot reporters who are looking for juicy stuff and to stir up trouble.
It would serve Francis much better to release prepared statements in their entirety, and they be translated by people who don´t have an agenda.
As a practicing "cradle" Catholic, conservative in my social, moral, and theological views, I am constantly amazed by the statements of our Pope. Unfortunately, he often reflects the views of many current Catholics, laity and clergy.
Among those Catholics who support this pope is Fr Morris. . . I turn him off whenever he shows up on the tube. I wish FNC would use a different person as the Church´s authority, someone like Chaput from Philadelphia!
To ask the question why liberals have been such hypocrites about their treatment of women and about women´s rights is not to say that conservatives haven´t been. They have. And some of their actions have been pretty bad. But by comparison, GOP hypocrisy in this area has been quite literally dwarfed by the Democrats. Ted Kennedy and Bill Clinton are the most recent spiritual fathers of this atrocious behavior. Both extreme sexual predators -- Teddy to the extent of walking away from the corpse of Mary Jo Kopechne and other improprieties, Bill for, well, practically everything from rape to cigars --
A new Raycom News Network Senate Election poll conducted by Strategy Research finds the race in a statistical tie nearly two weeks after allegations of sexual misconduct against Republican Roy Moore rocked the campaign. (Snip) When asked “what do you think about the allegations made against Roy Moore,” 45% believe all or some of the allegations; 34% do not believe the allegations; and 21% believe some or all of the allegations, but say it has not changed their vote. Among party lines, nearly half (48%) of Republican voters surveyed do not believe the allegations. Another 24% of Republicans say they believe some
Johannes Urpelainen -- the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Professor of Energy, Resources and Environment at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies -- is alarmed. He wrote a piece for the Washington Post: Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris agreement means other countries will spend less to fight climate change Wait a second. If carbon dioxide really were a threat to the planet, other countries would dig deeper in their pockets to pay for this. But according to Urpelainen, they will reduce their spending. From the Washington Post: If the United States refuses to finance climate mitigation and adaptation in developing countries, then industrialized countries
UCLA basketball players LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were arrested in China for shoplifting while attending basketball tournament. UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said the players stole from three stores in China including sunglasses stolen by LiAngelo Ball from a Louis Vitton store. They were facing 10 years in prison. President Trump asked President Xi Jinping for leniency. The three players were released. Thug life on display – After watching this bizarro interview with his father I can completely understand why LiAngelo Ball thought it would be perfectly okay to shoplift in China and live a life beyond
On top of the original story told by Gloria Allred falling apart; and on top of Allred refusing to produce the yearbook from the accuser that she highlighted as evidence; the Alabama campaign of Roy Moore has been contacted by several key witnesses who refute the story described by Gloria Allred’s client and media accuser Beverly Nelson. Interestingly, the witnesses who have direct and specific knowledge of the events Mrs. Nelson described in 1977 already told the media her story didn’t make sense and provided specific examples that refute the claims of Mrs. Nelson. However, after waiting to see their
Almost too much winning… almost, but I think we can take it. The New York federal reserve has raised their anticipated fourth quarter GDP growth forecast to 3.8%. That’s only a week after previously raising it to 3.2%. The Stock Market closes again at yet another all time high today: (image) Yup, as widely anticipated, the impact from Trump’s MAGAnomic policies are creating a massive upward dynamic on the Main Street economy. The increase in consumer confidence; the recent increases in wages; the increase in disposable income as an outcome of lowered energy costs and downward prices on high consumables (fuel,
In the Alabama Senate special election next month, the national political parties are either a punching bag or an anvil. Republican Roy Moore is increasingly running against the GOP establishment in Washington after top elected officials called for him to exit the race amid allegations of sexual assault and improper relationships with teenagers decades ago. Moore’s struggles and the shock of the allegations against him have tilted the race significantly, providing an opening for Democrat Doug Jones to compete in ruby red Alabama, which supported President Trump by nearly 30 points over Hillary Clinton last November. But in order to
On Monday, Charlie Rose of PBS and CBS, and Glenn Thrush of the New York Times fell. The latter got drunk and made a pass at a woman half his age who was equally drunk. Apparently, he did something and left her in tears. Rose gets the prize for the most sanctimonious apology so far.(Snip)But this is uncommon manure from an angus retentive bull who sees himself as the great white father bestowing kindnesses upon his lessers -- "I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked." Why without his guidance and aid,
Scott Adams of Dilbert fame thinks Roy Moore is toast, I don´t. The allegations of sexual impropriety are specious at best, and overwhelmed by the shoes elsewhere dropping like a shoe store in an earthquake. The election comes down to whether Republicans want to limit government, cut taxes, and Make America Great Again -- or whether they would like to please the news media. We cannot risk the disapproval of Charlie Rose, can we? Glenn Thrush may skewer us in the New York Times. Democrats have no such problem. They would vote for a yellow dog if he were a Democrat, and
WASHINGTON — After making the transition from comedy to politics, Senator Al Franken, Democrat of Minnesota, positioned himself as a staunch defender of women’s rights. “Sexual harassment and violence are unacceptable,’’ he wrote on Twitter last month. “We must all do our part to listen, stand with and support survivors.’’ Now it is Mr. Franken who stands accused, and his uncompromising stance in support of “survivors” of harassment has left him few options but to apologize and try to weather the storm. On Monday, a second woman said the senator touched her inappropriately, telling CNN that he grabbed her rear end
Birmingham, ALABAMA — A minister who says that he dated Beverly Young Nelson at around the same time that Young claims to have been assaulted by senatorial candidate Roy Moore says that he does not believe his ex-girlfriend about the allegations. The former boyfriend, Jeff DeVine, attended high school with Young and is currently in Thailand, where he runs DeVine Ministries with his wife and twin daughters. He says that as part of his ministry, which focuses on rescuing children, he has worked with victims of rape and other trauma. A high school classmate of Nelson’s who spoke to Breitbart News remembers
GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore is attempting to discredit the story of one of his accusers, who alleges he sexually assaulted her outside of an Alabama diner when she was 16 years old. The Moore campaign released a series of bullet points on Monday that contest the account Beverly Young Nelson gave during a press conference with attorney Gloria Allred last week, comparing statements provided by former employees and patrons of Olde Hickory House with her remarks. The campaign points to the accounts of four unidentified witnesses including "two former waitresses and two former patrons" who say they never saw Moore at
Doug Jones, the Democrat running for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat, says he loves to hunt but the Second Amendment has “limitations.” He believes that every right enumerated in the Bill of Rights is limited, and the Second Amendment is no exception.According to the Alabama Political Reporter, Jones described himself as “a Second Amendment guy,” but stressed that some gun control is necessary. He said, “We’ve got limitations on all constitutional amendments in one form or another.” This position is contrary to the clear language of the amendment, which states that the right to keep and bear arms “shall not be
Malia Obama appears to be settling in just fine at Harvard. On Saturday, former President Obama´s eldest daughter was caught making out with a handsome fellow Crimson fan at the annual Harvard-Yale game. Yale hosted this year´s face off, which saw Harvard students decamping down to New Haven to tailgate at their rival´s campus before the game. The 19-year-old former first daughter, who took a gap year before starting at Harvard this fall, was seen locking lips with a mystery man at the festivities outside of the Yale Bowl. Video shows the moment Malia reached up and put her arms
Imagine: even the New York Times’ Ross Douthat now thinks that Bill Clinton should have stepped down over the Monica Lewinsky affair. Douthat’s mea culpa op-ed in this past weekend’s paper, in which he confesses that he and others may have been wrong to dismiss Bill Clinton’s indefensible behavior, will serve as the official political obituary for Clinton, Inc. Hillary Clinton is done, finished, kaput. Dogged by scandals old and new, out of step politically, her excess baggage has morphed into an entire baggage train, dragging her towards political oblivion. While it is refreshing to consider the landscape unadorned by Clintons,
ALBANY — Fox News host and TV judge Jeanine Pirro is heading to court herself after being ticketed for excessive speeding Sunday in upstate New York. State Police say Pirro was clocked driving 119 mph in a 65 mph zone when she was stopped by a trooper at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Town of Nichols in Tioga County. A police source said she was driving a Cadillac. In a statement released by Fox News, Pirro said she was racing to see her sick mother in Elmira. “I had been driving for hours to visit my ailing 89-year-old
A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to cut funding from so called “sanctuary cities.” Trump’s order would have removed some federal funds from cities that limit their cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the Trump administration’s argument that the measure only applies to a relatively small pool of money. Orrick also said that Trump cannot set fresh conditions on spending that Congress has previously approved. Monday’s ruling came in lawsuits brought by two California counties, Santa Clara and San Francisco.
Charles Manson, the hippie cult leader who became the hypnotic-eyed face of evil across America after orchestrating the gruesome murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others in Los Angeles during the summer of 1969, died Sunday after nearly a half-century in prison. He was 83. Manson, whose name to this day is synonymous with unspeakable violence and madness, died of natural causes at Kern County hospital, according to a California Department of Corrections statement. TMZ was first to report on the killer´s death. The celebrity-news site reported that Debra Tate, the sister of Sharon, said she received a call
Brooklyn College is kowtowing to cop-hating students by directing officers who need a bathroom break to the broken-down facilities in a building on the far edge of campus. Amid a planned petition drive to ban cops from the taxpayer-funded campus, Donald Wenz, the school’s director of public safety, told the student newspaper The Excelsior that he’s trying to keep New York’s Finest out of sight. While Wenz said all of the school’s restrooms were technically open to cops, the college prefers they stick to those in the isolated West End Building, “rather than walking across either quad to use the
Over the last few days, I’ve had a number of conversations with both right- and left-leaning friends about the political futures of Al Franken and Roy Moore. Without equating the severity of the alleged offenses (Moore’s are obviously worse), I’ve been struck by the extent to which people across the political spectrum will tolerate misconduct in politicians that they’d never, ever tolerate in their own workplaces. In most functioning corporations, if there’s pictorial evidence that a senior executive groped a woman, then that executive is forced to resign. If there are known, credible allegations that an applicant for a senior
Dozens of teachers have quit their jobs in Pennsylvania´s capital city amid a wave of violence from students as early as the first grade, it has emerged. The Harrisburg Education Association (HEA) said that at least 45 teachers resigned between July and October, and more have followed since. Those who remain are now demanding more help from administrators. ´I have been kicked, punched, hit, scratched. I´ve had a student physically restraining me in front of my other students,´ first-grade teacher Amanda Shaeffer told board members, according to Penn Live. She added that ´many of the personal things that I have
Rep. John Conyers, newly facing sexual misconduct charges from former aides, was praised by fellow Rep. Maxine Waters just last month as a champion of women. During an address to organizers of the national Women’s March in which she lashed out at “rape culture” and President Trump, she singled out the Michigan lawmaker for special attention. (Snip) “He is quiet, he is confident, he is powerful, but he has impeccable integrity on all of our issues. Give John Conyers a big round of applause.” C-SPAN captured her comments and those of others who spoke at the event. In her address she
A second federal judge has halted the Trump administration’s proposed transgender military ban, finding that active-duty service members are “already suffering harmful consequences” because of the president’s policy. The ruling Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis in a Maryland case comes just weeks after another judge in Washington blocked the administration’s proposal that would have stopped military recruitment of transgender men and women and possibly forced the dismissal of current service members, starting in March. The preliminary injunction issued by the judge in Baltimore on Tuesday goes further than the
Michigan Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat and the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 with a former employee who alleged she was fired because she would not “succumb to [his] sexual advances.”Documents from the complaint obtained by BuzzFeed News include four signed affidavits, three of which are notarized, from former staff members who allege that Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee, repeatedly made sexual advances to female staff that included requests for sexual favors, contacting and transporting other women with whom they believed Conyers was having affairs, caressing
