Huge fire guts Robert E. Lee
Elementary School in Tampa amid
rumors it will be renamed due to
Confederate General controversy

Daily Mail [UK], by Michelle Ganney

Robert E. Lee Elementary School was ravaged by a fire Tuesday evening in Tampa Heights. The explosive flames occurred around 7pm, which is when firefighters rushed to the scene, according to Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Penny. Officials don´t believe the fire to be suspicious, however they are still investigating the cause of the inferno. (Snip) More than half of the school’s students are African-American, which has led the members from the Hillsborough County School Board to discuss a potential name change. Robert E. Lee was the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War.

Comments:
A blaze purely coincidental. I´d suggest naming it in honor of Weather Underground firebomber/guy in the neighborhood/ghostwriter Bill Ayers, but that´s off the table cuz he white. Last line in the clip above is comical, as few students there would have any idea of who Robert E. Lee was, other than as someone bearing the original sin of melanin deficiency.

The number of people streaming from the U.S. to Canada seeking asylum skyrocketed last month, according to the latest Canadian government statistics released Tuesday. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have intercepted some 13,211 persons attempting to sneak into Canada so far in 2017, including a staggering 5,712 in August alone. That’s up 82 percent compared to the 3,100 or so who were caught in July, and it continues a monthslong trend that local officials said has been fueled by both a change in U.S. policy, and what the Canadian government says is a misimpression of how easy it is to
