(Video) - More than 100 people were evacuated from a Florida nursing home Wednesday after five people were reported dead at the Hollywood facility, whose residents were suffering from intense heat caused by a lack of electricity after deadly Hurricane Irma swept through. Irma may have moved on from Florida, but lingering dangers caused by the storm, including carbon monoxide poisoning and heat-related incidents caused by a lack of air conditioning, remain in the Sunshine State, as millions wait for power to be restored. Hollywood Fire Rescue and police said at a news conference a total of 115 people were

I have been wondering if anyone died from Hurricane Irma after the relentless hype on both TV and talk radio. I had to tune out talk radio listening to this repetition of stating the obvious over and over. And when the conversation got to the news person standing out in the blasting winds in various garb, my blood pressure could take it no more. Some how, in the midst of all this hysteria, they missed the countless dead from the floods (mudslides) in Italy, and other parts of the "real" world (Far East) occurring at the same time. (And, it's still on-going.)

Unclear? Seems pretty clear to me. What? they didn´t want to turn it on because they were saving it for a rainy day? Or maybe they forgot they even had it?

There you go. Backup power check must be part of periodic inspection of these facilities. It´s not just about air conditioning, but also other life support equipment for patients. Not an option.

People die in nursing homes all the time... Did these 5 pass because of the heat or as my late husband told me when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, When your times up it´s up. Period.
Either way I am sorry to hear that..
I think this place should be put on notice if they had a generator and didn´t get it going..

My wheelchair bound sister is in a Houston nursing/assisted living facility. No electricity, flooded first floor. Her room is o the second floor. She made it, due in large part thanks to an extremely conscientious, lower-level, staff member who saw her through the storm. Sister´s family have made their appreciation known through contributing toward a replacement vehicle for the staff member whose car was on site and was destroyed.

Let´s face it, before air conditioning and swamp draining, Florida was not a highly desirable place to live year-round. The most vulnerable people need a lot of modern day help to survive. When systems break down, they are the first to die.

There is a lot more to this story and it´s not good. A lot of fraud and now they are trying to blame the power company because they weren´t on the emergency list.

Another facility was evacuated in Apopka this evening for not having AC.

The elderly and disabled are incapable of caring for themselves. This is criminal.

Since it began more than two weeks ago, CNN has provided a paltry 14 minutes and 11 seconds of coverage to the corruption trial of Democratic Senator Robert Menendez. In fact, the 24-hour cable news network has mentioned the trial only once since September 7. For contrast, on just one day (September 18), CNN spent more than 45 minutes analyzing former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer’s 60-second appearance at the Emmy Awards ceremony the night before. And that total doesn’t include all of CNN’s coverage of the Emmys, just the portions specifically about Spicer. This lack of coverage for Menendez’s

United Nations - Iran vowed on Wednesday not to be the first nation to violate the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. U.S. President Donald Trump said he had made up his mind whether to abandon the accord but declined to disclose his decision. Speaking at the U.N. General Assembly of world leaders, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani responded forcefully to Trump’s pugnacious speech on Tuesday by saying Iran would not be pushed around by a relative newcomer to the world stage. But he also said Iran desired to preserve its accord with six world powers under which Tehran agreed to restrict its nuclear program for at least a

About half that think violence is an OK form of protest. The indoctrination of the next generation is nearly complete. The left’s years and years of hard work at shutting down dissenting political views is paying off big time. What is hate speech, anyway? That’s not an American notion. Founding Fathers, after all, incorporated the First Amendment for the very reason of protecting political speech, words that irked, rhetoric that seemed more

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday the House has a “really good chance” to defeat a last-ditch Obamacare repeal bill if it makes it out of the Senate. Mrs. Pelosi said blue-state Republicans should balk after they realize their states would receive less federal money than under the current program, while more than a dozen red states see more dollars by 2026. “I don’t see how they could vote for it,” Mrs. Pelosi said.
