Stunning testimony: Voting machines can
be hacked without a trace of evidence

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

The country’s voting machines are susceptible to hacking, which could be done in a way so that it leaves no fingerprints, making it impossible to know whether the outcome was changed, computer experts told President Trump’s voter integrity commission Tuesday. The testimony marked a departure for the commission, which was formed to look into fraud and barriers to voting, but which heard that a potentially greater threat to confidence in American elections is the chance for enemy actors to meddle. “There’s no perfect security; there’s only degrees of insecurity,” said Ronald Rivest, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

I do not trust these electronic voting machines. The electronic galley is ok but there needs to be paper vote validation for auditing purposes.

If it ain´t connected to the internet, it can´t be hacked unless you allow someone with a computer to come into the polling place and connect cables to your voting machine.

I believe that I have read that voting machines are not internet connected during voting.

Sorry, I don´t believe these "experts". Just because there could be a way that a machine could be compromised doesn´t mean that it would be easy to do or possible to do on a broad scale.

For example, the comment that "Maybe the Wi-Fi was turned on" would require that a machine would have to be configured incorrectly, that someone could find THAT machine out of thousands in the country, that such wifi access could be used to make vote count changes, and make changes that wouldn´t be a dead giveaway like adding 3000 votes to a candidate in a precinct that only has 1500 people.

This is like saying that a careless banker "might" leave the door of the bank unlocked. A thief would need to know that bank was unlocked. Then someone would also need to leave the vault unlocked as well. Sure, it "could" happen. And I could win Powerball too.

Tech experts love to flap their gums and show off. Then they can make a case to sell better security to a worried public. How hard is it to create a voting machine with NO Wi-Fi. To program it at setup, a hardwired ethernet connection would be required and it would be pretty difficult to "accidently" leave that connected while the machine was counting votes on election day. Only a moron would do it. Or simply make it IMPOSSIBLE for the network function to be on when the machine is in operation counting votes. Electronically shut off power to any ethernet connection when tallying votes.

Having been an election commissioner for over 13 years I feel compelled to comment.
My state has 75 Counties. Each County selects ballot position by lot. With 7 Presidential candidates this past election that means there could be X number( please help with the parmutations & comutations) of different sequences of candidates that would have to be hacked on an electronic voting machine that is not connected to the internet. The results are printed out on paper at each of my 20 polling sites. This data is transferred to a computer that has never been connected to the internet, the data is coallated and then transmitted to the State (ah the weak link). When they publish that data on the internet we compare it to the paper trail we have. Any discrepancy would be immediately discovered

It is very apparent now the New Hampshire vote was stolen for Hillary by Democrats using fraudulent means. If investigated it will be revealed that most of the fraudulent voters were various public service employees from Massachusetts.

Computer security can be hacked or the software manufactures can write the programs to be bias. We need to go back to paper ballets. I can wait a day or so longer to find out the results.

This isn´t a surprise. Just make the software so that it flips a certain percentage of votes as they are entered. The actual vote count would match the number of people that voted. If the voting machine is connected to the internet, It could download good software and replace the hacked software afterward and vice versa. Maybe it could be done in such a way that the voting machine wouldn´t even need to be rebooted. It would be like any software that is expected to be up and running 24x7x365.

You got it #10.

We all here know that the real issue with election validity isn´t hacking, Russian or otherwise, but the untold number of people voting illegally or in multiple locations. And we also know which party fights against any reasonable laws (voter ID) aimed to curtail those shenanigans.

In my county (I´m an election judge) we use optical scan machines almost exclusively; paper ballots with results recorded on to a chip in the machine. After every election our county clerk takes at least one set of ballots and does a match up with the machine to make sure it is operating properly. All voted ballots are in sealed bags stored for a certain length of time in case of a recount. The only way to cheat requires shenanigans by the humans involved. No shenanigans at my polling place

#8 and #18:

Same here in Virginia. Neither the pollbook computers, where we check in the voters and record them having voted, nor the electronic ballot scanning machines are connected to the internet.

We do not use any electronic touch-screen voting machines. Our entire process has a paper trail that can be recounted/audited.

I´m not sure what type of machines the article references, but not the case here.

FTA: ´Maybe the Wi-Fi was turned on when it shouldn’t have been.’

Why would voting machines have WiFi? Doesn´t seem likely. If they did and it was off, how would you connect to it to turn it on?

Some new cars have internet capability, but cars and smart phones communicate with Bluetooth.

The whole premise is questionable. If hacked machines can´t be detected, how can we tell if it´s possible?

Nothing can be tampered with without leaving a trace. If something is changed, sooner or later, someone is going to notice. It´s like stealing furniture. Maybe an item or two goes missing and is not noticed at first, then a room full is gone, and someone is compelled to the conclusion that someone is stealing the furniture.

We need to go back to the punch cards. Simple, auditable, and with completely known error rates. The ballots can be re-run to increase the accuracy (run them through again to get -6dB less noise, thrice (4 total counts) for -12dB noise, 8 total for -18dB, limited by the durability of the cards).

But Democrats are too *stupid* to operate them. They´re too dumb to poke a hole in paper. That was the excuse in Florida 2000, and it´s why the whole country has these iffy machines that nobody can be certain about. Idiot Democrats will be the end of this nation.

RE #23: "Morticia, you spoke Decibels!"

More seriously, any all-electronic system sans a paper trail has the potential of being hacked without a trace. Electrons are ephemeral by nature. Fortunately, most voting machine manufacturers offer a paper trail option - at additional cost. As an election judge, I know that is the case with the machines in my precinct. Local election commissioners need to be convinced to spend the extra money.

For the geeks among us: cyclic redundancy check (CRC) would also "harden" the count, as opposed to simple checksums as used in my area.

But without a National ID, that only addresses the tip of the iceberg.

Even with our best efforts, Democrats in particular will find a way to cheat. Just check the Chicago river after any election.

When all else fails: purple dye. /s

IF....IF....IF what the ´blackboxvoting´ people are saying is correct, the computer system, at least the ones they are discussing, were DESIGNED to be MANIPULATED.

I agree with them that if the vote count allows DECIMALS.... not just Integer numbers, that is an ´indicator´ that things are not on the up-and-up.

My thought is that the system should be VISIBLE, with HARD COPIES, and COMPLETELY OPEN TO OBSERVATION BY ALL, AT ALL TIMES.

It´s been widely known, for years, in IT that electronic voting machines are absolutely (and demonstrated) insecure. Anyone with in the chain of custody of the machines can load the the election hack, which can hide itself before and remove all traces of itself after the election.

Elections must be done with voter marked paper ballots. Machine readable, sure - but hand-marked. But the entire election process needs to be secured. There are ways to ensure the security of the process without violating the sanctity of the voting booth. And why are the votes counted behind closed doors, removed from the public? Shouldn´t be that way. (And yes, I have spent some time thinking about this topic.)

As they’ve done all weekend, ABC and NBC have been practically apoplectic over President Trump’s comments against the NFL anthem protests Friday and Saturday. After players responded Sunday to Trump’s comments by locking arms or kneeling during the National Anthem, many Americans took to social media to blast the league or their own teams for kneeling, which many see as disrespecting the flag and our country. But ABC didn’t seem to care what regular Americans felt about the protests; instead they invited NFL players, ESPN journalists and celebrities on Monday’s Good Morning America to blast Trump’s comments and defend the

GQ host Keith Olbermann wants NFL fans to remain seated during the national anthem to protest President Trump. “This is simple: To defend OUR right to protest we as fans/consumers ALSO must not stand during the National Anthem until Trump’s threat ends,” the former MSNBC host wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon. (Tweet) Trump asserted during a rally on Friday night that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. ) The president doubled down on Twitter Saturday morning. “If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be

The recent behavior of a number of spoiled, privileged, ungrateful NFL players is unacceptable to most Americans, NFL fans or not. (snip) It would be so satisfying if a group of patriotic fans to have at the ready a flash mob of singers at a stadium game. If the players "take a knee" to show their disdain for the flag and the national anthem, these talented souls would wait until just before the kick-off and then stand up and belt out the national anthem themselves. Chances are hundreds of those in attendance would join them. Then they would exit the

As more and more leaks about the ongoing “Russian collusion” witch hunt by Robert Mueller appear in print, it seems to me that if Russia had been trying to erode our faith in our institutions, the Deep State is accomplishing what Russia failed to do. The Obama claque’s efforts were initially intended to help Clinton when they thought she would win and no one would know about their crimes. Then they continued the unlawful spying to cover up their role in the worst case of misuse of federal power in our history, to effect the removal or emasculation of the President,

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell snapped back at “divisive” comments about the league Saturday, hours after President Trump urged team owners to fire players who won’t stand for the national anthem. At a political rally Friday night in Alabama, Trump griped that players who kneel for “The Star Spangled Banner” disrespect the flag and should lose their jobs. (Snip) Goodell issued a statement via Twitter at 9:16 a.m. Saturday: “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs

Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch had a harsh reaction to President Trump’s called for NFL owners to fire players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. “Comments like we heard last night from the president are inappropriate, offensive and divisive,” Mara and Tisch said in a statement Saturday. “We are proud of our players, the vast majority of whom use their NFL platform to make a positive difference in our society.” Trump initially addressed the issue during a campaign rally speech in Alabama for Senator Luther Strange, asserting that owners should fire “any son of a b—h”

In June 1979, the Bee Gees were on top of the world. Months before, their “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack, featuring songs written and/or performed by the Australian trio, had won a Grammy for album of the year. The year before, it spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. And now the band was playing 60,000-seat arenas across America. Disco was king, and the Bee Gees — brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, clad in white suits and flashing gold chains — were its ambassadors. At the start of the tour, Maurice got hold of a T-shirt that made everyone

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Sunday night that he did not want offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to stand for the national anthem, instead of sitting it out with the rest of his teammates. Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was the only Steelers player to stand for the anthem. While Villanueva stood in the tunnel, hand over his heart, the rest of the team remained in the locker room in protest of President Trump’s comments that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. Tomlin said in a post-game press conference
