The opioid crisis is sending a
record number of kids into foster care

Circa News, by Deniz Kofteci

About 78 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. Janet Siemer is a nurse and single mother from Ohio, one of the states hit hardest by the opioid crisis. Thousands of children get trapped inside the states foster care system waiting to be adopted or turned back over to their parents once they get sober. Siemer adopted two young children named Landon and Mi after fostering them for two years. “The reason I became a foster parent is I saw every day how heroin affects families and there were children in need of foster care,” said Janet. “But also because I love children, so why not?” When she first met Landon,

Comments:
When you hears stats that say 80 die daily from opioid overdoses, 20 Vets commit suicide & teenage suicide numbers are rising, you realize that we have lost our moral compass. Until enough pain is self inflicted to the point that we stop doing so collectively, America will "never" be great again. Oh, and it´s going to take a resurgence of humility and prayer leading US back to our own "Higher Power" and following our better angels.

What is wrong with people? Why would anyone risk their lives with this poison?

Nancy Reagan was correct. Just say NO.

Most of us can´t grasp how many families of all income levels are affected by the drug epidemic. Today I met a homeless man. His wife had just died from a heart attack before the hurricane. His kids were druggies and couldn´t help him. Worse yet, his temporary shelter had been flooded out. Drugs have torn many a family apart and many grandparents aren´t up to raising these small children.

Why do so many people feel they can´t cope without a ´fix´? We have a lost generation.

There are a lot of reasons for the crisis. Just a few:

Fatherlessness often leaves kids with a hole in their soul.

Schools and the popular culture teach that there is no right and wrong, except for our own country and our own traditions, which are always wrong. That leaves kids floating in space, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, without an anchor.

A huge number of children are already on drugs for ADHD, depression, and other things. It´s normal for them to take drugs.

Also a huge number of children are involved in sports from an early age and many of them are injured and get used to taking pain killers.

Our enemies push drugs into our country and have for a long time.

This is another "crisis" crying out for government money. Want to stop it? Seriously? Throw a few "Dr. Feelgoods" and negligent pharmacists in jail for their end of the deal. Of course, some towns may lose their doctors... An expansion of the mythical "War on Drugs" does no one any good, except the "warriors".

Our church is hosting a speaker tomorrow evening to talk about the opioid crisis. Here in Catawba County (NC) drug abuse violations are three times the national average. "Twenty-two of the 25 top cities for opioid abuse are located in southern states", and Hickory, NC is in the top four, with 9.9 percent of residents using opiates.

Opoids were supposed to be non-addictive in the prescribed doses. Wrong. #3 - you´re right; something like 25% of school children are on Ritalin - which is a Schedule 2 federal narcotic. We are told that the prescribed doses are not harmful. Yeah, sure.
When I was in school, lo these many moons ago, the behavioral problems for which dangerous drugs are now being prescribed were referred to as "being a normal seven-year old" and was dealt with by a smack on the side of the head. Mrs. Gillemette didn´t put up with anything.

I´m immune to the effects of Morphine. Hydrocodone is prescribed to me after every operation, but only enough to get me past the worst days. I don´t usually take even one tablet. That said, when someone is in excruciating, non-relenting pain, it´s easy to understand why some would try those things.

Unfortunately, we knew a young man who tried an Opioid patch combined with heavy drinking. His parents found him dead in his bed the next day. A terrible waste.

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe won’t face prosecution and is free to remain in the southern African nation following his resignation on Tuesday after 37 years in power. “There aren’t any plans for former President Robert Mugabe; he’s free to stay in Zimbabwe and he won’t face prosecution,” Simon Khaya Moyo, a spokesman for the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, said Thursday by phone. “We don’t have anything against him or his family. Coffee is "more likely to benefit health than harm", a new review has found. People appear to reduce their risk of a range of health problems when they drink three to four cups a day, experts found. They concluded that drinking coffee seems safe "within usual patterns of consumption", except in pregnancy and among women who are at risk of a fracture.
