The pungent scent and smoke of weed mingled with that of jerk chicken on the grill in Brooklyn´s Crown Heights on Labor Day during New York´s annual Caribbean Carnival Parade. As steel bands and reggae music played from floats, a man worked a sidewalk hawking small clumps of marijuana from a Styrofoam take-out box. While savoring the festivities, I was grappling with a paradox. New York is not one of the nine U.S. states (including the District of Columbia) to have legalized recreational marijuana use. But if the many police officers there noticed its presence, they weren´t bothered. Back in Des Moines,
Comments: Broke one law after another. Thinks that entitles him to stay, ahead of all the millions waiting in line legally.
You can´t protest illegal aliens doing illegal activities while using illegally obtained Social Security numbers. That would mean you are a racist, or a xenophobe, or a white supremacist, or a Nazi - as opposed to being a taxpayer that is just sick and tired of being taken advantage of.
Lawyer´s name is Ta-Yu Yang. Why does this make me wonder how much the lawyer knows or cares about our country? May be wrong about that particular person, but we really need to slow down our legal immigration, too, to get a bit of integration of the massive numbers of strangers we have in our country, in addition to all the illegal aliens.
So called DACA teens are classified under the immigration laws as illegal aliens. Obama granting them DACA status did not change that. Illegal aliens are subject to being deported under the immigration laws.
Marihuana is an unlawful substance under federal law and several states taking it upon themselves to legalize marihuana under state or local laws did not change that. Illegal aliens convicted of possession of marihuana or other unlawful drugs are subject to being deported in accordance with the immigration laws.
Illegal aliens are living in their own dream world, have their own lawyers, and consider the immigration laws to be their enemy.
All DACA people are going to be deported because they are all here illegally. Whatever crimes they have committed here are just a bonus. Barry Obama should be deported with them to Mexico because he got them into this mess by his unlawful open gates policy. Let´s see how much they like him now.
The DACA illegal aliens blame the US Constitution and the immigration laws for the situation that they find themselves in. Since the immigration laws do not have a vote, while a lot of the DACA illegal aliens supporters are able to vote, there is no doubt that a lot of the D.C. "Swamp" politicians who are hungry for votes, will talk in support of the illegal aliens and essentially against the immigration laws that were passed by Congress (them) that provides that all illegal aliens found in the USA are subject to being deported.
Before Season 4 of Transparent started production, transgender actress Alexandra Billings, who plays Maura’s friend and mentor Davina on the series, walked into the writer’s room to pitch. She said she wanted to be naked. That, of course, is a crude simplification of the process. Billings’ friend and Transparent co-star Trace Lysette suggested that the two of them talk to the show’s writers about their lives and experiences as transgender women, with the hope that they might incorporate them, and therefore a broader reflection of the varied transgender experience, into the show’s storylines. “And I asked for this specifically,” Billings says, talking
A far-right party has won seats in the German parliament for the first time in half a century, in an election where Angela Merkel was returned as chancellor for the third contest straight. Official exit polls show the anti-Muslim and anti-immigration AfD winning 13.5 per cent of the vote – at the higher end of what surveys had suggested it might win. Meanwhile, the centre-left SPD – the current coalition parties of Ms Merkel´s CDU and a titan of German politics for 150 years – appears to have hit a historic low of just 20 per cent, its worst showing since the
These are the heartbreaking final photos of murdered British headteacher Emma Kelty – taken by villagers who begged her not to continue her journey along the Amazon River. Just three days after Ms Kelty smiled and waved goodbye to the locals, she was tortured and killed. Villagers had warned the 43-year-old not to leave alone, telling her the last foreign kayaker to pass through the area had been murdered. Seeing a lone foreign woman about to venture into the notoriously lawless stretch beyond the Coari region, the villagers went out in boats to intercept her and persuaded her to stop for an
Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton slammed President Trump on Saturday, saying his presidency is worse than she expected it would be. "I really had such deep doubts about his preparation, his temperament, his character, his experience, but he´s been even worse than I thought he would be," Clinton told MSNBC´s Joy Reid on "AM Joy." "I tried in my concession speech to make clear that we should all give him the space to be president for every American. That´s what we want from our presidents, regardless of our partisan differences, we want to feel like the person in the oval office
A terrifying torrent of water swept through Puerto Rico after a dam failed at Lake Guajataca in the northwest region. Water was seen sweeping through the municipalities of Isabela and Quebradillas after the dam sustained structural damage from Hurricane Maria. Nearly 16 inches of rain fell in the area, significantly raising water levels on the 90-year-old dam. Earlier, Puerto Rican authorities had scrambled to evacuate as many as 70,000 people after the National Weather Service warned that failure of the dam was ´imminent´ and could lead to ´life-threatening´ flash flooding.
Around 70,000 people have been told to evacuate immediately as authorities warned of "extremely dangerous" flash flooding in areas near the 345-yard Guajataca Dam. Governor Ricardo Rosselló said the extent of the damage to the dam is not fully known and urged people living in the municipalities of Isabela and Quebradillas to flee. “Close to 70,000 is the estimate of people that could be affected in the case of a collapse,” he said. “We don’t know the details. It’s time to get people out.” At least 13 people were killed when Hurricane Maria barrelled through Puerto Rico – virtually flattening the entire island
How the mighty have fallen! Reuters reports: Time Inc said on Friday it was looking to sell several assets, including Time Inc UK, and warned it experienced more-than-anticipated softness in both print and advertising revenue during the current quarter. The publisher, which said in April that it would not sell itself, said assets identified for sale include Time Customer Service and a majority stake in the Essence magazine. The assets marked for divestitures represent about $488 million, or 17 percent of total revenue for the 12-months ended June 30, the company said.
Does John McCain have any shame at all? In his grandstanding declaration of opposition the Graham-Cassidy bill to scrap Obamacare, which must be passed by the end of the month, he´s sticking more than 100,000 low income taxpayers with huge fines associated with being unable to afford Obamacare´s larded up insurance policies. According to Americans for Tax Reform: If Sen. John McCain votes YES on Graham-Cassidy 153,700 Arizona households will no longer be stuck paying Obamacare’s individual mandate tax.
SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old man was sentenced to six years and two months’ jail and six strokes of the cane on Friday (Sep 22) for multiple offences, including slashing a police officer with a bread knife. The man had been under investigation for posting a nude photo and explicit video of his teenage girlfriend on her Facebook page in March 2016. He had accessed her Facebook and email accounts without her permission and changed her passwords, locking her out of her own accounts. Afraid he would post more compromising photos and videos of her taken while the couple were still together, the
The New York Times’ Sunday Book Review became embroiled in controversy last week when one author published an inaccurate review, Vanity Fair reports. Michelle Goldberg reviewed Vanessa Grigoriadis’s new book, Blurred Lines, which examines the debate about consensual sex on college campuses. Goldberg offers a few pieces of praise, Vanity Fair writes, before giving a harsh critique of the book, even saying that “occasionally (Grigoriadis) makes baffling errors that threaten to undermine her entire book,” according to Vanity Fair. But Grigoriadis defended herself and her book on her Facebook page, saying that Goldberg performed “some of her own (incompetent) journalism here.”
Evacuation orders have been issued for an area in northwestern Puerto Rico, after authorities said the Guajataca Dam was failing under the pressure of water accumulated from Hurricane Maria. Operators reported that the structure was failing around 2:10 pm local time on Friday, causing flash flooding downstream on the Rio Guajataca, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Juan. The NWS has warned residents in “All Areas surrounding the Guajataca River” to evacuate immediately. “Their lives are in DANGER!” the NWS tweeted just before 8:00pm GMT. The reservoir, created in 1929 by the US Army Corps of Engineers, is located
A Saudi cleric has been slated for saying that women don’t deserve to drive because they only have a quarter of a brain. Sheikh Saad Al-Hijri was also banned from performing his religious duties because of his outrageous comments. Al-Hijri made his brain-numbing remarks at a lecture aptly titled, “The evils of women driving.” Women are banned from driving altogether in the notoriously conservative country, with many jailed for attempting to. According to the cleric, women only have half a brain to begin with, but, when they attempt to factor shopping into their feeble minds, that halves again and they
Karl Rove, a former senior adviser to President George W. Bush, ripped into President Donald Trump on Sunday for wasting his platform and his time attacking NFL players protesting by kneeling during the national anthem. “The president has two very valuable assets: his time and his voice. This president wastes it when he engages with things like this,” Rove said Sunday during a Fox News panel discussion on Trump´s recent controversial attacks of NFL players who protest for civil rights by taking a knee during the national anthem. Rove added that the president often spends time he ought to be
Hillary Clinton said on MSNBC Saturday that women who support President Trump are “publicly disrespecting themselves.” (VideoTweet) “When I see women doing that, I think, ‘Why are they publicly disrespecting themselves? Why are they opening the door to have someone say that about them in their workplace, in a community setting? Do they not see the connection there?´” Clinton told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on AM Joy. Clinton commented about the Trump-supporting women after Reid asked her about pro-Trump women wearing shirts with profanities directed at Clinton. The former 2016 presidential candidate added that she thought it was “troubling” to hear about
N.F.L. players and owners, already on edge after critical statements made by President Trump at a rally on Friday night, woke up on game day to another series of tweets from the president, this time calling for football fans to boycott N.F.L. games unless the league fires or suspends players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. (Snip) Steelers Won’t Participate in Anthem The Pittsburgh Steelers team does not plan to emerge from the locker room in Chicago until after the national anthem. “We’re not going to play politics,” Tomlin told CBS. “We’re football players, we’re football coaches. We’re not participating
President Donald Trump has called for fans to boycott the NFL if players don´t stop ´disrespecting´ the US by kneeling during the national anthem - as his rant continues to draw backlash from high profile athletes. Trump had earlier denounced the protests by NFL players and rescinded a White House invitation for NBA champion Stephen Curry in a two day rant that targeted top professional athletes and brought swift condemnation from league executives and star players alike on Saturday. Early Sunday morning, Trump continued his Twitter tirade and called for an NFL boycott. ´If NFL fans refuse to go to games until
The entire Pittsburgh Steelers team remained in the locker room during the national anthem, with the exception of one player: Army veteran Alejandro Villanueva, who plays offensive tackle for the Steelers. While the rest of his teammates remained in the locker room, Villanueva stood in the tunnel holding his helmet in his left hand and holding his right hand over his heart as the anthem played. John McCain revealed his doctors gave him a ´very poor prognosis´ when he first found out about the rare and aggressive brain cancer that he continues to battle. The Arizona senator said his doctors told him at the time that his condition was ´very, very serious´. ´So I just said, "I understand." Now we´re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find and do the best we can. And at the same time, celebrate with gratitude a life well-lived,´ McCain said during an interview on 60 Minutes, that aired Sunday night. McCain underwent surgery in July
GQ host Keith Olbermann wants NFL fans to remain seated during the national anthem to protest President Trump. “This is simple: To defend OUR right to protest we as fans/consumers ALSO must not stand during the National Anthem until Trump’s threat ends,” the former MSNBC host wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon. (Tweet) Trump asserted during a rally on Friday night that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. ) The president doubled down on Twitter Saturday morning. “If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be
The recent behavior of a number of spoiled, privileged, ungrateful NFL players is unacceptable to most Americans, NFL fans or not. (snip) It would be so satisfying if a group of patriotic fans to have at the ready a flash mob of singers at a stadium game. If the players "take a knee" to show their disdain for the flag and the national anthem, these talented souls would wait until just before the kick-off and then stand up and belt out the national anthem themselves. Chances are hundreds of those in attendance would join them. Then they would exit the
As more and more leaks about the ongoing “Russian collusion” witch hunt by Robert Mueller appear in print, it seems to me that if Russia had been trying to erode our faith in our institutions, the Deep State is accomplishing what Russia failed to do. The Obama claque’s efforts were initially intended to help Clinton when they thought she would win and no one would know about their crimes. Then they continued the unlawful spying to cover up their role in the worst case of misuse of federal power in our history, to effect the removal or emasculation of the President,
CARSON, Calif. — It’s time for NFL owners to go beyond issuing statements and to make a statement: bring back quarterback Colin Kaepernick. On Sunday, from an undisclosed location, Kaepernick retweeted on his Twitter account several images of NFL players wearing T-shirts that read #IMWITHKAP. NFL owners need to show they are as well. They finally can dispel theories that Kaepernick has been blackballed for refusing to stand for the national anthem last season, or, fearing a blacklash from fans, that they simply lack the courage to give him another chance. In May 2016, speaking at a campaign rally in Kentucky,
Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch had a harsh reaction to President Trump’s called for NFL owners to fire players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. “Comments like we heard last night from the president are inappropriate, offensive and divisive,” Mara and Tisch said in a statement Saturday. “We are proud of our players, the vast majority of whom use their NFL platform to make a positive difference in our society.” Trump initially addressed the issue during a campaign rally speech in Alabama for Senator Luther Strange, asserting that owners should fire “any son of a b—h”
In June 1979, the Bee Gees were on top of the world. Months before, their “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack, featuring songs written and/or performed by the Australian trio, had won a Grammy for album of the year. The year before, it spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. And now the band was playing 60,000-seat arenas across America. Disco was king, and the Bee Gees — brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, clad in white suits and flashing gold chains — were its ambassadors. At the start of the tour, Maurice got hold of a T-shirt that made everyone
