New White House Chief
of Staff Has an Enforcer

New York Times, by Maggie Haberman & Glenn Thrush

Lost in the scramble to cope with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, the response to North Korea’s nuclear provocations and the shock at President Trump’s instant alliance with Democrats was a little-noticed bureaucratic earthquake that shook the White House this week. At a staff meeting on Wednesday, Mr. Trump’s new chief of staff, John F. Kelly, announced a number of seemingly quotidian internal moves, capped by the appointment of Kirstjen Nielsen — his brusque, no-nonsense longtime aide — as an assistant to the president and his principal deputy. Few outside the White House marked the moment, but inside the building, this was a

Comments:
General Kelly is of real benefit to the president, even if it´s not yet obvious to Donald Trump. From discipline comes order and from order comes success.

The old Trump team may have been somewhat undisciplined, but they had the right instincts. McMaster should go. Bannon & Gorka should have stayed. Kelly risks losing POTUS Trump´s base of support. Cohn behaved in a purely foolish way because as it turns out POTUS Trump´s analysis of Charlottesville was dead on. Besides, what need is there for an economic adviser to comment on a matter like Charlottesville?

Real help is needed in getting McConnell & Ryan out of power and persons of integrity and the right instincts--as in keeping long-standing promises--into their places.

Sounds like a Dept of Motor Vehicles employee, the nasty one who sends you to the back of the line for using the wrong form, rather than someone who works in our White House. Would argue the Kelly and Nielsen are there to suppress conservative thought and solutions rather than "restore order". Trump´s boasting about this debt increase deal with Schumer and Pelosi are not the order I voted for last November

Oh, what a supposedly sly, manipulative and weakly coy hit piece. Maggie is such a trump hater, she can´t write anything that does not stab at her idea that he is a blatant misogynist, woman bashing slob. Clearly, someone at the NYTimes said "Let´s try not to be so radical. Get things down to earth. We need readers, damn it!" And this Trump Hit piece is supposed to get into that little boxed in framework. And the inseparable but gender confused Glenn is right there with his/her/X commentary well hidden behind Maggie´s Lefty/marxist/university sophisticated snobbishness is there intermittently wobbling her elbow and giggling as she tries to write something semi-literate.

I wonder if Maggie and Glenn can just wander into a top level meeting at NYT...they seem to think it´s perfectly okay to do it in the WH. They must be missing their leaked news tips and are forced to make up their own...bummer!

Well, I saw this was from the NYSlimes, but I thought I would tackle it anyway.

Halfway through the second paragraph, I was overwhelmed by the flood of adjectives being used to demean President Trump and the people around him.

Here is a sample from roughly the first half of the article. I did not see ONE positive adjective among all the negative.

....brusque, no-nonsense, forceful, empowered, feared Vatican enforcer, taming, meandering, leaky, infighting-plagued, foundering, enemies, seething, plotting, griping, contrast to previous White Houses, historical outlier, antiestablishment, contemptuous, spaghetti lines of authority, the resulting chaos, willing to be hated, clipped addendum, stern warning, immediately ejected, no-fly list, unfit to attend serious meetings, former “Apprentice” star, ill-defined job, penchant for dropping into meetings where she was not invited, circle of decision-making is shrinking, accustomed to wandering in and out of meetings, sour mood, only a cursory study, disgust, rebuffed, problem, fund-raiser by trade, schmoozer by temperament, very little knowledge, or interest, in policy, Mechanics who never lift the hood, subordinates who flatter rather than challenge, special delight in humiliating, ignoring his advice, diminutive nickname.

Had enough? I did!
Never made it any farther.

In June 1979, the Bee Gees were on top of the world. Months before, their “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack, featuring songs written and/or performed by the Australian trio, had won a Grammy for album of the year. The year before, it spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. And now the band was playing 60,000-seat arenas across America. Disco was king, and the Bee Gees — brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, clad in white suits and flashing gold chains — were its ambassadors. It should be axiomatic among Republicans that Obamacare must be repealed and replaced during the current Congress. The last opportunity to do so appears to be the Graham-Cassidy bill. That being so, it must pass, and it must be improved before it passes. Specifically, the bill´s experiments in actual health insurance markets, need to be made more robust. It is only by passing a repeal and replace bill that Republican politicians can avoid breaking the cardinal promise they have made to voters for the past four election cycles. His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons. Mueller’s probe more resembles an empire, with 17 prosecutors retained on the public dime. So . . .
