Capitol’s Confederate cleansing poses
difficult decisions for Democrats

Washington Times, by Seth McLaughlin & David Sherfinski

Cleansing the Capitol of blemishes of American history could be a hard task. As Democratic leaders threw their support Thursday behind a proposal to take down any statue connected with the Confederacy, President Trump wondered where they would draw the line. Sen. Cory A. Booker, the New Jersey Democrat who called for culling the Confederacy, did not say what should be done about Richard Stockton, a slave owner who is one of his state’s contributions to the Capitol Collection. Nor did Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer’s office respond to a question about whether his office should be renamed from

During the french revolution, they killed the nobles first, then they killed the servants of the nobles, then the killed anyone who socialized with the nobles, then they killed all Catholic priests, then the nuns, then they got to weary of it all they made as soldier into an emperor.
The moral of story is that there is no end.

From the article cited in my previous Reply:

The groundwork for reconciliation, however, was laid decades before Confederate soldiers and family members became available for federal benefits.

President William McKinley cited reconciliation between the North and South in a speech that followed the conclusion of the Spanish American War on December 14, 1898. A number of former Confederate officers had volunteered for service during the war, which had helped secure U.S. victory, McKinley said:

… Every soldier’s grave made during our unfortunate Civil War is a tribute to American valor. And while, when those graves were made, we differed widely about the future of this government, those differences were long ago settled by the arbitrament of arms; and the time has now come, in the evolution of sentiment and feeling under the providence of God, when in the spirit of fraternity we should share with you in the care of the graves of the Confederate soldiers.

The Cordial feeling now happily existing between the North and South prompts this gracious act, and if it needed further justification, it is found in the gallant loyalty to the Union and the flag so conspicuously shown in the year just past by the sons and grandsons of these (Spanish American War veterans).

What a glorious future awaits us if united, wisely, and bravely we face the new problems now pressing upon us, determined to solve them for right and humanity.

Okay, and then chisel Jefferson off Mt. Rushmore, then burn the books, then ... what about all those Confederate States? Then all those people named Lee, Jefferson, Washington, Davis, ... well there is a word limit but something must be done about all the people with names that remind us of this time.
This is not about racism. It is all about the ideological war being fought. It is communism vs capitalism. That´s the stark truth. The war is heating up. Too many of us have tried to ignore it all the while the communists have been hard at work. We vastly out number them but look at voter turnout our side doesn´t show up. I´m not pointing the finger just the facts, which apply to me as well as anyone. The point is they are serious and they are getting more serious because they see how close they are. We must fight this war with the Law. It is an existential threat.

Well you can bet your boots that it was the oldtime segregationist Southern Democrat politicians in their respective Southern states who decided that those confederate related statues should be sent to the Capitol to be put on display in Statuary Hall.

When Pelosi was the Speaker the liberal Democrats had the majority in Congress and the first black President in the White House and thus could have removed the alleged offending statues at any time. They did not because they knew that such a decision would be highly unpopular throughout the Southern states, essentially the liberal Democrats were not willing to take that political heat from the South and the resulting loss of votes.

So now the liberal Democrats are trying to cow the wimpy Republicans to do that dirty work and to take the resulting heat and loss of support from the South. The wimpy Republicans may well go along as they are usually scared to death when the liberal Democrats play the race card against them and run as fast as they can to hide under their desks and then to go along to get along with the liberal Democrats, who if they had their way would toss everyone of those wimpy Republicans out of the Congress.

Nice. If they get rid of all the racist monuments in DC, there won´t be a single Democrat´s statue left there (we should even help them with that).

Actually, I´m betting that the Democrats started this initially just to irritate the heck out of Trump and the Republican squishes, then saw how easy it was and how there was absolutely no pushback (in fact even getting the usual RINOs jumping on Trump and yapping at him to apologize!) that they figured why not? Somebody please let Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell out of the lockers they´ve been stuffed in with really bad wedgies. The Democrats want their lunch money too.

There is confusion about "drawing the line."

Will the present activism stop when the Confederate Statues are gone?

No! Not a chance.

The Left - which has many manifestations - has no intention of drawing anything that might constrain them. They will escalate confrontations until stopped by another force.

We can´t be sure what that force will be or when it will arrive or from where.

Rush is right. Want to get rid of racism? Dismantle the democrat party. Their history of corruption has been around since at least the time of the Civil War. In fact, they are the instigators of the Tammany Hall pay to play corruption back in 1884. They also at that time booted blacks from any government jobs they held in NYC at that time. Long long history of racism in that party.

I just wish that Rush would get into this pond. If he is serious about the swamp, this is a major plug he could pull on his show.

Now is a good time to revisit Professor Allen Tate´s reflective, epic "Ode to the Confederate Dead," somewhat reminiscent of Eliot´s "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock."

https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/ode-to-the-confederate-dead

The line about "knowledge carried to the heart" is about the Southern sense of tragedy, best remembered in history, in some of Faulkner´s novels (cf., Absalom, Absalom! and The Unvanquished), and in poetry. Certain of us old traditional Southern souls, thoroughly sympathetic to the goals of the civil rights movement of 1955-1965 and intolerant of racism from any direction, nonetheless have heard the stories of ancestors decimated by war and its aftermath.

Allen Tate was a Vanderbilt Fugitive, a group of Southern agrarians and literary colossi whose influence is still being felt 95 years after the Fugitive magazine (´22-´23) was published.

John Crowe Ransom´s God Without Thunder and Richard M. Weaver´s The Southern Tradition at Bay: A History of Postbellum Thought are two other philosophical works to revisit. The most enduring artists are those who either have glimpsed or been thrust into the depths of human cruelty and depravity, and have found a way to face the unfaceable with human dignity and optimism, not with recriminations.

Faulkner´s Nobel oration from 1950 reflects this proper optimism. It´s the best way for artists to be. Life´s tough enough without being constantly reminded of how much worse it could be. Nevertheless, I´ll take my stand.

I find the term ´cleansing´ used in this manner to be highly insulting.

The usage follows from the euphemism ´ethnic cleansing´ that the left used to whitewash the GENOCIDE in -I think what used to be Yugoslavia- during, I think, Slick Willie´s term in office.

Find a better, more descriptive word.
Cultural Genocide, maybe?

Someone with better word skills than me, please chip in!
