A crowd of ignorant protesters pulled down a bronze Confederate statue that stood before a county government building in Durham, North Carolina — the angry national backlash to the Charlottesville brouhaha over the Robert E. Lee monument. This is not how civil societies operate. And yet this is what the left has brought, and now cheers. What’s next — burning books with offensive content? Burning books written by those who used to own slaves? At the very least, museums will have to go. The problem with revising history based on a standard of “feeling offensive” — as this anti-Confederate craze is rooted — is that someone,

These words constantly cross my mind as I seek to post and understand articles read here daily. Through a special session of our legislator here in Texas, the most talked about bill, which didn´t get through, was about having transgendered bathrooms. And, we are now beginning to have to face the racially charged mob rule about Confederate statues. School today has changed not just grading, but the textbooks that grounded US baby boomers to believe in a better, greater America driven by our imagination and efforts.
How about taking down all reminders of the Democratic party that supported slavery and instituted Jim Crow laws? Why would any city allow such an organization to hold a convention there? Why don´t sports team refuse to play in states that where Democrats govern?
Have the snowflakes even noticed this Charlottesville incident has taken the place of the Trump/Russia goose chase? Even care? It´s scorched earth baby and just wait and see what else they are going after. This war on statues probably sources from Obama and Hillary, in bitterness the democrats lost the 2016 election. They see it as direct assault on people who voted for President Trump. Article further down on Lucianne page on Tuesday says internet provider Dreamhost is allowing leftist radicals to cooridinate attacks on our heritage
If the left believed they could get away with genocide of everyone who did not agree with them, they would. Nothing but complete and absolute defeat will appease them. The civil war has begun and they mean to win it while reasonable Americans can´t even begin to wrap their brains around such hate directed at their fellow citizens. These angry progressives will not back down and it will get much worse. Big money supporters of the violent chaos are chomping at the bit to finance the country´s destruction.
How many does it take to realize it takes a very small percentage of the population to reek havoc on a country.
That very few listed are those smart enough to whip the stupid masses into a frenzy in the belief that the "rich have everything and we have nothing." . It is their laughable ignorance that accepts the premise they should have equal "stuff" without earning it.
They bend to the commands of two or three that whip them into a rage that blinds them from the reality that they get what they deserve not what they want. Through mayhem and violence they demand change that history has repeatedly shown the bootlickers remain on their knees still licking the boots of those who now rule with an iron fist.
It is the past that holds the lessons from which they are too stupid to garner the realities of the failed, destructive regimes. By destroying the very essence of history they will become doormats to the new elite!
This is the real American Taliban--and the republican politicians are so engaged in a national Stockholm Syndrome that they are quite willing to see our liberty and Constitution destroyed rather than risk some perception of harm to their own re-election. Franklin was right--we had a Republic up the point that we were no longer able to keep it. Barack lit the match and the republican "fire brigade" sat on their hands. Trump is the only person between us and the anarchy of the left.
Ignorant thugs roam our streets as leftist politicians make the police stand down and the MSM treats them as conquering heroes. Leftists show triumphant joy in tearing our country to pieces and spitting on our President. Check out Venezuela if you want a picture of where these ding dongs want to take you.
The correct parallel to all this is the Red Guards and the Cultural Revolution in China. There is one orthodoxy and everyone will be shamed/bullied into adopting it regardless of anything else. We already have reeducation camps, call them "diversity training" or whatever. RESIST!
The Left is going to continue their goal to destroy and portray Trump as the devil in every way possible. The politicians in Washington are feckless and incapable of doing anything right. It will come down to the people to check this evil. I pray a fearless leader emerges from the trenches. Someone who has a voice and will stand up to the Left and the media and support President Trump. We need to gather together and form an iron shield against this lawless anarchy.
They´ve been burning books for years. Even books that have their hearts in the right place are condemned when they use forbidden words or explore sensitive subjects. Look at the ´scholarly´ commentary on Conrad´s Heart of Darkness sometime or the stereotypical response to Huckleberry Finn. Book banning is alive and well in the modern university. So is compelling or pressuring teachers to teach books by ´other´ authors, thus crowding out the classics.
I remember a simpler time when I had difficulty wrapping my head around Nazi Germany, Hitler´s rise to power, how the people with whom I share common ancestry could possible watch their neighbors hauled off to the gas chambers.
About that book burning. It is not so far fetched. Check out the list of books banned or expurgated. I´m not sure what we are seeing is anything more that a tantrum of some sizable proportions. My not sure doesn´t mean I don´t see the makings of trouble. It´s there. However, if there is then it must be dealt with through law and order or at least given our best effort to do so. That´s why I´m up in arms over AG Sessions lack of vigor. The AG´s position is on the front line of this battle of the minds. This issue is why we need the AG to go after political crooks, dems and Rs, and those funding it (Soros and others),and the actors, those being paid to do this. Those actors are inciting riots and nothing is being done. Obama falls under this as an actor as well. Obama brags an army of 30,000, he´s community organizing on a grand scale. These people are rabble-rousers and communists they are dangerous. The problem is that we have laws they just are not being enforced. The trouble will come from not enforcing them. Police stand-downs in the face of "protests" That´s at a local level and I agree with PT this statue business is local. We need to deal with the head of this fish on this one. We need law enforcement.
Just like the Bolsheviks, they are ramping up their goon squads to peak for a "red October" in their effort to topple not just statues but our entire government. I suggest checking your ammo inventory. It´s pretty clear where all of this is heading.
#19: What exactly is "the identity of the South"? The Civil War lasted five years. The South has been part of the United States of America for 230 years. Is the "identity" of the South totally wrapped up in those five years? Does the South actually have an "identity" that is separate from the rest of America? Perhaps you should get over that.
I don´t know if they will ever go after Mt. Rushmore but I do know that they are already after the carving on Stone Mt. in Georgia, just east from Atlanta. I´ve been there and it´s a marvelous site to see. Because it´s owned by the state, I hope and pray that it will stay there for many centuries from now.
When will people rename all schools named after racist Woodrow Wilson? When will West Virginians rename all of the highways and buildings named after Robert "Sheets" Byrd? Are there any portraits or statues of Margaret Sanger that should be taken down? What about all of the southern Governors and Senators, like Al Gore´s father, who opposed the Civil Rights Act?
We L´Dotters are all on the same page with this issue. I´m not liking what my intuition and inner voice is telling me about this revolt from the Alt Left. Democrats have finally evolved into Marxists Socialists. The Democrat party no longer exists. Thank God we have the National Guard and President Trump has surrounded himself with generals.
Perhaps the real reason for removing confederate monuments and statues is to sanitize the racist history of the democrat/ progressive party. The statues themselves cause physical harm to no one. Kicking or spitting on their metal bodies serves no purpose. But, the history of the men they memorialize is a reminder that enslavement of black people is part and parcel of the story of the democrat party.
Thomas Jefferson, (supporters of whom began the first 1700´s democrat party) was a slave owner. Andrew Jackson - the acknowledged founder of the modern day democrat party - was also a slave owner. After the civil war, the KKK threatened and lynched newly freed blacks and poor whites who were inclined to vote republican either out of loyalty to Abraham Lincoln or a perceived political/economic benefit. Democrat politicians overwhelmingly opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. Neither would have passed without republican support.
One thing for sure, no matter how many Confederate monuments are taken down and hidden away, history can never be changed. It is what it is.
Let´s not kid ourselves. If you know anything at all about the Left, you know what they ultimately want to topple isn´t a statue - it´s The Constitution. They won´t stop until it´s in shreds and replaced by the Communist Manifesto (or some "updated" LGBTQ/climate variation).
One can easily imagine that Constitution Shredding Parties are being planned as we speak...

Folks this isn´t about a bunch of statues. That´s the pressure point. These statues stood through 8 years of Obama without offending. What happened since he left office that changed the whole picture?? Oh ... right ... Trump won!
This is about spitting in the face of the voters who supported Trump and toppling us in abstentia ... not some dopey statue. It´s "Get Trump!" 24/7/365 now.
To take "modern" values, standards, mores, and opinions and retroactively apply them to the past occupants of earth --- anywhere --- is the work of fools. In your own ancestry there are blood line relatives who probably did things we would all be ashamed to admit! Do we deny our own selves and how we got here? Take it in context and known that at the time these currently inappropriate things were done, they were openly & easily accepted by society.
Everything named after Robert Byrd should be renamed, Martin Luther King´s statue needs to come down as he opposed gay marriage, FDR´s statue´s all need to come down as he opposed women in combat positions and allowed a segregated army, and any honor to any Democrat needs to be revoked as that WAS the party of slavery and Jim Crow! It was the REPUBLICANS who passed all the civil rights laws.
President Trump accused Iran of collaborating with North Korea to strengthen their missile technology Saturday evening in a Twitter post criticizing the 2015 nuclear agreement between the U.S., Iran and five other nations. "Iran just test-fired a Ballistic Missile capable of reaching Israel," Trump wrote. "They are also working with North Korea. Not much of an agreement we have!" (Snip) Trump posted the tweet hours after Iran claimed to have successfully tested a new ballistic missile capable of reaching parts of the Middle East, including Israel. The missile, known as the Khoramshahr, has a range of 1,250 miles and is
Iran’s provocative actions have threatened the free world, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Saturday after Tehran claimed to have tested a ballistic missile with multiple warheads capable of hitting Israel. “This Iranian missile launch is an act of provocation and defiance against the United States and its allies, as well as an attempt to test them,” Liberman said, (Snip) The new ballistic missile has a range of 2,000 km. The distance by air between Israel and Iran is 1,800 km. (Video) Iran said Saturday it would keep developing its arsenal, despite US pressure to stop. The United States has imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran,
The circus is returning to the University of California, Berkeley, as a sequel to rioting in February by black-clad protesters angered by the campus visit of conservative speaker Milo Yiannapolous. The goal of the protestors then and now is simple: demonize and silence conservatives. Shamefully, the Berkeley rioting was permitted by a hands-off attitude by university administrators. After a now-departed chancellor and his aides ordered University of California police to stand aside, rioters set fires, inflicted $100,000 in damage to university buildings, and prevented Yiannapolous from speaking.
Seoul, South Korea - North Korea has long cultivated an image of defiant belligerence, punctuating its propaganda and diplomacy with colorful threats, insults and bluffs. But Kim Jong-un’s personal statement released on Friday, and his foreign minister’s threat to test a nuclear weapon over the Pacific Ocean, represent a new level of brinkmanship by the government. (Snip) The North Korean news media carried photographs of Mr. Kim sitting in his office and reading his statement, but his voice was not broadcast. On the country’s state-run Central TV, a female announcer read his statement.
Moscow - Ukraine will not receive lethal weapons from the United States, but a firm commitment that Kiev will be supplied with radio warfare and other equipment has been obtained, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said after talks with US President Donald Trump. (Snip) Stalemate Poroshenko said on Tuesday that the US Senate had approved the allocation of $500 million to support Ukraine´s security and defense sectors, adding that Kiev would receive defensive lethal weapons. Ukraine has repeatedly asked to be supplied with lethal and non-lethal weapons from the European Union and the United States.
Israeli planes have reportedly fired two missiles which hit near Damascus, targeting an ammunition facility belonging to Lebanon’s Hezbollah, according to a Lebanese TV station citing “informed” sources and various social media reports on pro-Syrian webpages. Israeli forces are reported to have carried out attacks from outside the Syrian border early on Friday, according to the Lebanese Al Mayadeen. It said the strike led to a fire, with no casualties or disruptions at Damascus International Airport reported. Pictures allegedly showing the moment of the attack have emerged online on Arab and Hebrew-language social media. (
President Trump on Friday labeled Kim Jong-un a “mad man,” shortly after the North Korean leader had called him a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard.” “Kim Jong Un of North Korea, who is obviously a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people, will be tested like never before!” Mr. Trumptweeted. Mr. Trump was apparently responding to the North Korean leader’s reaction to the president’s address to the United Nations. “Far from making remarks of any persuasive power that can be viewed to be helpful to defusing tension, he made unprecedented rude nonsense one has never heard from any of his
CNN has announced that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) will debate Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over the latter pair´s proposed Obamacare repeal bill on air, reports The Hill. CNN anchor Jake Tapper and chief political correspondent Dana Bash will moderate the town hall-style event live from Washington D.C. (Tweet) "With a critical deadline looming, Graham and Cassidy, architechs of the Republicans latest healthcare proposal, will debate Sanders and Klobuchar on the merits of the plan that would repeal and replace Obamacare," read a statement from the
New York - North Korea may conduct the most powerful test of a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean in its possible "highest-level" actions against the United States, the North´s top diplomat said Thursday. Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho made the comment after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said that he is considering the strongest actions in response to U.S. President Donald Trump´s threat to "totally destroy" the country. "It could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific," Ri told reporters. "We have no idea about what actions could be taken as it will be ordered by leader Kim Jong-un."
Washington - The Trump administration is preparing to dismantle key Obama-era limits on drone strikes and commando raids outside conventional battlefields, according to officials familiar with internal deliberations. The changes would lay the groundwork for possible counterterrorism missions in countries where Islamic militants are active but the United States has not previously tried to kill or capture them. (Snip) The policy paves the way for broader and more frequent operations against Al Qaeda, the Islamic State and other jihadists. It would also apply in countries where the United States has targeted Islamist militants
For the more than five million Puerto Ricans living on the United States mainland, it was bad enough to watch news reports on Wednesday of Hurricane Maria ripping through an island where relatives and friends lived. What made it worse was not knowing how their loved ones had fared. With the entire power grid knocked out and with more than 95 percent of wireless cell sites out of service, communication was all but impossible on Thursday, and an already emotional day became even harder for the Puerto Rican diaspora.
President Trump persuaded China to freeze all financial transactions with North Korea and ordered a new round of U.S. sanctions Thursday, closing out his first U.N. General Assembly with a major diplomatic victory in his efforts to curb Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and missile programs short of war. In a carefully choreographed strategy deployed from the shadow of the United Nations headquarters in New York, Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin called the head of China’s central bank very early Thursday to alert him that Mr. Trump was preparing an executive order to sanction any financial institutions doing business
Sen. John McCain almost certainly just killed TrumpCare — and gave a boost to managed-care stocks such as UnitedHealth (UNH) and Centene (CNC). The Arizona Republican declared that he couldn´t "in good conscience" vote for the Graham-Cassidy plan to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with block grants to states. John McCain?Verified account @SenJohnMcCain I cannot in good conscience vote for Graham-Cassidy. A bill impacting so many lives deserves a bipartisan approach. The news brought a sudden turnaround in managed-care stocks, though much of that was short-lived. Shares of Centene, whose fortunes are more tied to the ObamaCare exchanges and Medicaid
Hillary Clinton said on MSNBC Saturday that women who support President Trump are “publicly disrespecting themselves.” (VideoTweet) “When I see women doing that, I think, ‘Why are they publicly disrespecting themselves? Why are they opening the door to have someone say that about them in their workplace, in a community setting? Do they not see the connection there?´” Clinton told MSNBC’s Joy Reid on AM Joy. Clinton commented about the Trump-supporting women after Reid asked her about pro-Trump women wearing shirts with profanities directed at Clinton. The former 2016 presidential candidate added that she thought it was “troubling” to hear about
President Donald Trump has called for fans to boycott the NFL if players don´t stop ´disrespecting´ the US by kneeling during the national anthem - as his rant continues to draw backlash from high profile athletes. Trump had earlier denounced the protests by NFL players and rescinded a White House invitation for NBA champion Stephen Curry in a two day rant that targeted top professional athletes and brought swift condemnation from league executives and star players alike on Saturday. Early Sunday morning, Trump continued his Twitter tirade and called for an NFL boycott. ´If NFL fans refuse to go to games until
Former First Lady Michelle Obama has spoken about what life was like for her and her family during her eight years in The White House. Her candid comments came during a moderated discussion at a tech conference in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday evening. ´It´s like being shot out of a cannon while drinking from a fire hydrant blind,´ she explained as she told of how she got used to her new way of living. ´You have to tell The White House what kind of toilet paper you like. You don´t know where your forks are.´ (Photos) Mrs Obama
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he will vote against the latest GOP effort to repeal ObamaCare, potentially dooming the legislation. “I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried," he said in a statement, referring to the legislation spearheaded by GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C) and Bill Cassidy (La.). McCain´s announcement leaves GOP leadership with no room for error.
GQ host Keith Olbermann wants NFL fans to remain seated during the national anthem to protest President Trump. “This is simple: To defend OUR right to protest we as fans/consumers ALSO must not stand during the National Anthem until Trump’s threat ends,” the former MSNBC host wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon. (Tweet) Trump asserted during a rally on Friday night that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. ) The president doubled down on Twitter Saturday morning. “If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be
Former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) tweeted that she hopes all NFL players kneel during the national anthem on Sunday in response to President Trump´s remarks attacking Colin Kaepernick. Edwards, who left Congress earlier this year, called Trump a "white supremacist who squats in our White House" in her tweet.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell snapped back at “divisive” comments about the league Saturday, hours after President Trump urged team owners to fire players who won’t stand for the national anthem. At a political rally Friday night in Alabama, Trump griped that players who kneel for “The Star Spangled Banner” disrespect the flag and should lose their jobs. (Snip) Goodell issued a statement via Twitter at 9:16 a.m. Saturday: “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs
The Senate’s top Democrat offered praise for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after he said he would oppose the latest ObamaCare repeal bill, which narrows the chance that Republicans can get the legislation to President Trump’s desk. “John McCain shows the same courage in Congress that he showed when he was a naval aviator,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said an hour after McCain’s statement. “I have assured Senator McCain that as soon as repeal is off the table, we Democrats are intent on resuming the bipartisan process.” McCain is the second Republican, after Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), to announce
His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons. Mueller’s probe more resembles an empire, with 17 prosecutors retained on the public dime. So . . .
There really ought to be a statute of limitations on how long John McCain can play the tortured war hero card. His war hero status was exhausted with me a decade ago over a single instance. Brad Smith, who as chairman of the Federal Election Commission and law professor dared to criticize the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law on constitutional grounds (later vindicated in several Supreme Court cases culminating in the glorious Citizens United decision), came before a Senate committee one day to testify about campaign finance laws. He had recently had surgery, and had to appear in a wheelchair. Smith wheeled himself
Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch had a harsh reaction to President Trump’s called for NFL owners to fire players who refuse to stand for the national anthem. “Comments like we heard last night from the president are inappropriate, offensive and divisive,” Mara and Tisch said in a statement Saturday. “We are proud of our players, the vast majority of whom use their NFL platform to make a positive difference in our society.” Trump initially addressed the issue during a campaign rally speech in Alabama for Senator Luther Strange, asserting that owners should fire “any son of a b—h”
