The riots in Charlottesville reflect the breakdown of the Narrative, which has been the subject of several past posts. What happened on the street has been a long time coming on the Internet. The bonds of trust are breaking down. Reputation and authority are no longer recognized outside of a membership group. The personal, already political, finally become commercial. Some companies have flatly refused to serve those whose views they disapprove of. Political views are becoming conditions of employment. Some national political leaders are proposing explicit "litmus tests" to sort people according to virtue. Now cars are ramming into people. The riots

You lost me at "cars are ramming into people".
Cars don´t ram people just like guns don´t kill people.
People kill people using guns and cars.
We have no journalism anymore. It is all politically driven propaganda.

The article brings to mind some observations, whatever they´re worth.
Throughout history, people have preferred to be among their own kind. Its human nature. The easiest way to define ones own kind is by appearance or language. When forced by government or social engineers to live among outsiders, it is very stressful and can lead to what we are seeing now. You can pass all the laws you want and impose all the punishments you want, and you wont change human nature.
They did an interview with some of the original cast members of the Planet of the Apes movies. They observed an interesting phenomenon. When they would break for lunch, all the actors and extras, still in costume, would sit with the apes of their own kind. Gorillas would sit with gorillas, chimps with chimps, etc. It didnt matter who they were under the costume.
This 50 year social experiment has failed. Best to cut our losses and let people go back to doing what they want, living where they want and associating with whom they want. Better times will follow.

FTA: When public policy itself turns public life into a kind of zero-sum competition for resources and legitimacy, they may feel obliged to join gangs to get a slice of the pie. We are in a self-made political prison and the hyphens have become our prison bars.

Craftily, LBJ greatly expanded government and government assistance at all levels, he knew he was buying the votes of both the indigent and the indolent, and that such policy would damage recipients´ moral fiber. No matter. The Left, both Republican and Democrat, have continued to pile on the benefits. At what point did we reach the point of no return, and how far past salvaging our standard of living, long term, have we gone? How bad will the crack up be? Will it be as bad as the Great Depression? No one under eighty years old has any direct recollection of the ´Thirties.

#1´s objection was to a figure of speech called metonymy, and I suspect Wretchard was making a wry reference to Al Gore´s hatred of SUVs*, which beginning a few years ago were regularly featured in headlines that made it appear as though the vehicle were inhabited by a demon, not a driver. Artificial intelligence discovers the gas pedal. Not. Well, not yet. Some of us are not above revisiting that old technophobe´s nightmare. (continued)

*Gore hates you or me in an SUV. As for himself, when he gives one of his tendentious and dishonest speeches, the hulking SUV that delivered him like a psychological IED to the auditorium sits outside the backstage exit door with its engine running and its air conditioning cranking for the duration of the speech, because when Al comes back to his posh vehicle all hot and sweaty from lying, he doesn´t want to be uncomfortable for one second. Not one second. Screw the wasted gasoline, the wear and tear on the machine. And let´s not even go into his private jet waiting on the airport tarmac. Beastly hypocrite.

Despite all attempts to equalize, there are patriots and traitors in our midst. Political views are a condition for employment ONLY when the employer is Left Wing. Brushing this off with generalization only makes it worse.

Police: Stripper from Tampa thought

A male stripper from Tampa is accused of stabbing his partner multiple times in the eyes with a pen after he suspected he was a cannibal, according to WTVJ and a report acquired by the station. Justin Calhoun, 24, is being held without bond on an attempted second-degree murder charge after he attacked Mark Brann, 67, in his Key West home, the report stated. Calhoun told police that he and Brann were in a relationship and that the incident started because Calhoun suspected Brann of being a cannibal. The two then got into an argument and Brann picked up a gun, according

Dr. Judith Curry is one of the leading realist voices in the climate science community, even though she has now moved on from what she considers a hopelessly politicized field. This 12-minute interview is a good introduction to some (by no means all) of the reasons why global warming alarmism is wrong, and why politics has badly compromised, if not completely ruined, a nascent scientific discipline. Again, this is an introduction, not a master class, but it is well worth your time: Notable quote: "On balance, I don’t see any particular dangers from greenhouse warming. Behind hue and cry over the alt-right/ctrl-left clashes lurks the big stakes game for control of the state. Past tyranny operated through control of the state, via organs of censorship, surveillance, the criminal justice system and propaganda. Without these it is merely an impotent spirit of malice, condemned to haunt little bookstores and beer gardens. Neither Nazism nor Bolshevism was possible with a small state. From the Third Reich to Maduro´s Venezuela amts, diensts and bureaus have been the true foot inside the boot in the human face. Without Deep State actors ready to exploit it the Reichstag Fire would

As Joel Pollak reports in Breitbart this morning, Rolling Stone magazine has refried and repackaged the whole range of lies--comprehensively refuted--against White House adviser Sebastian Gorka. The left-wing media keeps setting a new bar for chutzpah. Central to the Stone story is an attempt to tar Dr. Gorka with guilt by association with right-wing political parties in Hungary, where he was active between 2000 and 2008. "Gorka served as adviser to [Hungary´s prime minister Viktor] Orbán," the article states, "who´s been called a ´neo-fascist dictator´ by Sen. John McCain." There were supposed to be mega-tornados carving trenches across a weather-ravaged nation. ...But tornadic activity has been in near-constant decline since the 50’s. We were supposed to see Katrina-like storms with shocking regularity. Instead, we enjoyed a decade-long cat-3 storm drought - the longest in the nation’s history. The polar ice caps were supposed to be free of ice, sea levels would rise, our cities would be underwater, and we’d all grow gills like Kevin Costner in Waterworld. So of course, Al Gore decided to buy a $9 million ocean-front mansion in a gated community near Montecito, California. Such has been the

That would be the violence that is infecting our politics and the frightening acceptance of it as the new normal.
