White supremacist rally forced
Virginia Gov. Terry McAullife
to declare a state of emergency

Circa News, by Julia Boccagno & Mike Vanzetta

A car drove into a group of counter protesters still marching after the Unite the Right rally was officially shut down by police. (Tweets w/videos) Multiple injuries have been reported. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency on Saturday after thousands of alt-right activists and counterprotesters gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia, to participate in the "United the Right Free Speech Rally"--a demonstration aimed to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. (Tweet) Though the formal demonstration began at noon, demonstrators were seen taking the streets since early Saturday morning.

Comments:
Definitely someplace I´d be avoiding this weekend or ever. McAullife gets a taste of what real governance is.

I will wait 24 hours to get a good perspective on this news. I don´t believe any counter protest to conservative views will remain peaceful. We will probably see tomorrow that the "peaceful" counter protesters were full of antifa anarchists.

People are already blaming Trump for the rally when actually this is the result of 8 years of Obama fostering hatred towards those that aren´t black, and those that wear a badge. Those people at the rally that are carrying the Nazi flag are just as deranged as those anti-American thugs in the opposition group.

Newton´s Third Law applied to politics. What alt-left Black Panther "Security Patrols" started at Philly polling places, alt-right White Supremacists will counter. We are again at the precipice of Civil War, with race again as a significant element.

Both sides had better rein in the "crazies" and let cooler heads prevail. I´m seriously concerned that factors internal and external will not let the Republic survive a second CW.

Question: Would there have been any violence if the rally had been left alone? You know, free speech. They get to say things that you don´t like. So... what do you do? You start a riot. Leave them alone and hours later they will be gone.

In my view the riot was caused by the counter protestors.

I do not believe the people holding the Nazi flags were Trump voters - only added by outside radicals. People seem to forget the War Between the States was not civil & was about STATES RIGHTS. Hopefully Patrick Henry´s fight will not have been in vain. Also Robert E Lee was one of the finest gentlemen the South produced along with Stonewall Jackson. They don´t make them like that anymore.

Washington – The US Supreme Court kept the Trump administration’s strict refugee ban in place Monday, at least temporarily dashing the hopes of some 24,000 already-approved immigrants. Justices of the highest court in the land accepted the administration’s emergency petition to stay a ruling by the San Francisco Appeals Court last week that would have allowed thousands of refugees already in the pipeline to come to the United States despite the ban. That put the broader legal challenges to the travel ban — which halts all refugees and travelers from six mostly Muslim countries — off until an expected Supreme Court review
