Progressives, crazed with identifying new forms of oppression attached to the currently fashionable catchword “privilege,” have finally embraced the stupid as a victim class. Hey, let´s celebrate stupidity! Just ponder for a moment all the potential grand marshalls for the inevitable Supidity Day Parade in New York City, once the stupid are organized into a grievance-powered pressure group. And where else, but at a university, a temple of higher learning? In this case, one funded by taxpayers. This is from a genuine column in the student newspaper of the University of Iowa. A student suddenly has discovered that being smart is
One can be absolutely brilliant and still be a total loser.
Perhaps it´s time to nail these snowflakes with their own darts - let´s call it "Student Privilege", defined as those who get to mouth off, resist, demonstrate and riot while having their every need paid for by someone else.
These students should be forced to read Vonnegut´s "Harrison Bergeron" (or watch the movie version, "2081") over and over until they get the point that "equal" doesn´t mean "cut down to the same level." At the rate we´re going, we may have a "Handicapper General" in place well before 2081!
So when I going to hear someone discuss black privilege? As a white female, I worked hard, held two jobs and raised a child on my own. I never had affirmative action programs that paid for my education, social programs that subsidized child care, etc. I´m tired about hearing of "privilege".
Some people are smarter than others, some are prettier than others. This what makes us as individuals. So, PLEASE stop with this "privilege" crap.
FTA:"below a certain intelligence life is harder, opportunities are fewer..."
It takes a real genius to figure that out.
Sorry, not buying the BS about white priv, and not apologizing for my gift if high intelligence. I have tried to use it to benefit the country, working 35 years in defense industry making sure we have the very best possible weapons systems to keep us all safe. Not apologizing one bit, in fact, I am proud of it.
Next it will be ´work ethic privilege´, and we will be asked to celebrate laziness.
To me, this appears to be a further regression fostered and supported by the TV news media. Consider for a moment, which does the TV news cover.... a debate over, say, balancing the budget, or a bunch of thugs rioting, breaking windows, burning cars, and ´demanding justice´? TV covers the thugs, of course, and takes the THUGS SIDE! We have been seeing what follows... the whole variety of ´causes´ and ´demonstrations´.... the only thing that they all have in common is that they are working to TEAR DOWN AMERICA.
I think many of the above commenters are reading this wrong. The Iowa student is taking Charles Murray´s claim of an evolving elite Ivy League educated class to its logical conclusion, that it imparts a privilege in the same way as is claimed for whiteness. Lifson seems to raise points against him that are not unlike those that in the past have been raised by liberals, who seemed to deny that there was any genetic component at all to intelligence. In my reading of this, the student is engaging in a bit of social parody.
This all reminds me of an article I saw out of Australia a couple of years ago, when my son´s family lived in Papua New Guinea.
A SJW social worker in Brisbane made a proclamation: parents who read their children to sleep at night give those children an unfair advantage over children whose parents don´t read to them. It is strongly suggested that all parents immediately stop reading to their children.
"Charles Grodin: Every year, thousands and thousands of perfectly nice, incompetent people are fired from their jobs merely because they lack the qualities to do these jobs well. And why? Why should someone who is already good at their job win out over someone who is poor at theirs? Effective workers don´t need the job. They already know how to do it. If they´re such hot stuff, why don´t they try doing something they´re bad at? How will society ever grow if people are just hired to do what they already do well? Just listen to these heartbreaking testamonies."
The title of this column reflects the first thought I had on the news of Steve Bannon´s resignation last Friday as President Trump´s strategic advisor. Although I do not know Mr. Bannon personally, the impression I have gotten from reading biographies of him, as well as my knowledge of his enunciated beliefs, his patriotism, and the pivotal role he played in galvanizing Donald Trump´s presidential campaign, caused me to believe that he was the one individual with the intellectual firepower, intestinal fortitude, and strategic vision to check the unchecked growth of our government. CNN hit a new low – and that‘s saying a lot – Tuesday night in its coverage of President Trump’s speech in Phoenix. The former news channel is now little more than a propaganda mouthpiece for the Deep State. On Tuesday, it used a half dozen anti-Trump panelists, with no one representing a counter view, to introduce a new fake news meme: Not only is the 45th POTUS a racist and a Nazi-sympathizer but an imminent national security threat to the United States. To reinforce this spin, CNN’s Don Lemon, who outed himself as a Trump hater in an out of
The popular trend of taking down Confederate statues and the resulting controversy and violence was put on steroids by New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. And now this tactic has predictably attracted mentally-disturbed white supremacists, Neo-Nazis, Antifa anarchists, and outright communists. However, Mayor Landrieu´s virtue signaling only goes so far. For example, when will the mayor issue a formal apology to Italian Americans, who were the victims of one of the largest lynchings in U.S. history in 1891? Of course he won´t, because that runs counter to his leftist narrative. Italians are now grouped in with "white oppressors," but in the late
Something dramatic and important happened yesterday in Boston, but the mainstream provided a counter narrative to mask the shame of it all. The media violated the normal rules of the TV news game – if it bleeds it leads and find a victim -- in order to protect the sacred resistance narrative’s presumptive good guys. The real story of yesterday is that the Boston Police there advised a small crowd of free speech advocates – nary a white supremacist among the speakers – to stop the program early and [I paraphrase] “RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!” I am sure they said it
The first “shots” in our new civil war were fired after Charlottesville when many Democratic leaders claimed that they had the right to use physical force against anyone they didn’t like. While cowardly leftist leaders are trying to portray themselves as fighting Hitler they are really fighting anyone they don’t agree with. Remember that some Democrats said that Rep. Steve Scalise had it coming (snip) Facing a continued loss of power because their radical agenda is toxic to most Americans, the Democrat leadership -- which includes the MSM -- have decided that they have the right to physically attack anyone who
An internal civil war is tearing at the fabric of Fox News. The events of the past week have brought the long-simmering conflict closer to the surface. The legitimacy and viability of President Trump are under constant assault in the mainstream media as never before – and that is saying something. Fox News Channel executives, staff, and on air talent are taking sides. The future direction of the right-of-center, fair and balanced Fox News approach to presenting the news may well be in serious doubt. (snip)James Murdoch, 21st Century Fox’s new CEO, is one of the “Murdoch Boys” – the
Trump haters, intoxicated on the Nazi-KKK-Trump meme they are pushing, are unmasking themselves as hateful cynics. Yesterday, we saw Katy Tur of MSNBC metaphorically morph before our eyes into a vulture feasting for political carrion on the body of Charlottesville victim Heather Heyer. Interviewing Susan Bro, Heather Heyer’s mother, Tur asked five straight questions, trying to get the grieving mother to stop being scrupulously nonpolitical and give her something to use against Trump. How is this not exploitation? How is this not harassment?Tur feigns sympathy in ritualistic fashion, but also utters The Big Tell: “I don’t want to make this about
President Trump had it right when, during his press conference on infrastructure he addressed the nonstop questions on Charlottesville, he asked if those obsessed with fears of white nationalism if they would also remove statues and monuments to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, both slaveowners, in addition to the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. (snip)The alt-left seems very selective in its righteous indignation, ignoring the historical record of a Democratic Party which embraced white nationalism, founded the KKK, and honored one of the great bigots of modern times -- Robert Byrd. The alt-left’s historical amnesia omits the fact that
For the first time in American history there are multiple generations without an essential national cause. Every generation of American society since the nation’s founding up to the 1970’s has been swept up in one of three indispensible national movements -- the abolition of slavery, women’s suffrage and the elimination of government sanctioned racism. (snip)while waiting for a flight a few months ago, I overheard a conversation between two women in their late thirties, who were apparently college professors or instructors, and a trio of college age young adults, whom I assumed were students. The academics were regaling the naïve
In the midst of the maelstrom of breaking news of the past several days, the outlines of a big story affecting the future of the Fox News Channel are beginning to emerge. They involve a major makeover of Fox News´s ailing prime-time schedule and a rising new star, Eboni K. Williams. After the dust settles, Williams, whose current show, The Fox News Specialists, looks as though it´s headed for oblivion after the coming shake-up, may wind up on the fast track to cable news stardom. On Monday, August 14, Matt Drudge let the cat out of the bag, as he occasionally
One thing overlooked in the uproar over Charlottesville is that this was, evidently, merely a dress rehearsal for a much larger-scale effort planned for this Autumn. Activist groups on the left evidently have something big in store for November 4th. The idea seems to be a revival of the 1971 “Days of Rage” – an effort to shut down the country as a whole to force a change in government. Thanks to one of many political mailing lists that AT finds itself on, we received an email last Sunday from the “Stop Mass Incarceration Network,” a little-known left-wing agitation group, one
The violence in Charlottesville, and the tearing down of Robert E. Lee’s statue there, and in Durham has made me angry and unhappy. (snip)Finally, we have a leader who fights back against the tyranny of the culture-changing socialists. Trump understands these actions are warm-ups. The progressives are tearing down Confederate statues and they are kicking and spitting on the memorials to the dead because they cannot yet kick and spit on President Trump and his voters.
Two members of the Kennedy family were arrested for disorderly conduct near the family’s famed compound on Cape Cod, according to police. Max Kennedy, the 52-year-old son of Robert F. Kennedy, was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and a noise violation around 1 a.m. Sunday morning after reports of loud partying, Barnstable Police told the Boston Herald. His daughter Caroline, a 22-year-old California resident, was also arrested at a home a short walk from the main Kennedy compound. (Snip) The arrests come after a brush with the law for another of RFK’s grandchildren, Conor Kennedy, who
In her most detailed public comments about what happened during the second presidential debate, Hillary Clinton said her “skin crawled” as Donald Trump loomed behind her on the stage in St. Louis in October. The comments are included in her new book, “What Happened,” which she called an attempt to “pull back the curtain” on her losing bid for the presidency. Some of the moments during the campaign, she said, “baffled” her. The book comes out Sept. 12, but audio excerpts, read by Clinton herself, were played on MSNBC on Wednesday morning. In the recording, Clinton noted that she wrote
Black Lives Matter activist Chanelle Helm released a list of “requests” to white people in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month. Helm, the so-called “cofounder and core organizer of Black Lives Matter Louisville,” explained in an article published at Leoweekly.com the things she says need to “change.” “White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably one that lives in generational poverty,” Helm writes in an article titled “White people, here are 10 requests from a Black Lives Matter leader.” White people are asked, “Give up the
I’ve been on the Barron Trump train from the start, but it’s about time the president’s son starts dressing the part. Barron is the youngest son of Donald Trump and the only child the president shares with Melania Trump. Time and time again Barron has proved that he’s just a normal 11-year-old kid, despite the fact that his dad is the President of the United States and he lives in the White House. One thing that isn’t normal though is the way he dresses when he joins his parents for a public appearance. Barron was returning to the White House from New
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are among a set of White House aides pushing President Trump to allow illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to stay, in an effort to get Democrats to fund the president´s border wall. McClatchy reported that the group of White House officials have suggested using so-called ´Dreamers´ as a bargaining chip, in order to check off some of the president´s campaign promises on immigration, including the wall, additional detention facilities, an E-verify system for employers and cuts to legal immigration. However, such a move would break another campaign promise, as candidate Donald Trump had pledged
Thanks to Monday´s solar eclipse, disastrous traffic jams have been taking over the country these last few days. And as folks leave the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse since 1918, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimated that nearly two-thirds of the nation´s resident live withing a day´s drive of the path of totality. And with Oregon being the first to see the eclipse, it and neighboring state Washington are experiencing the worst bouts of the traffic jams. ´This is the biggest transportation event that has ever hit Oregon,´ Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation told AP. If money talks, George and Amal Clooney made it shout Tuesday, by donating $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center to help fight hate groups in the wake of tragedy and violence in Charlottesville, Va. The SPLC, a leading civil-rights group that monitors hate groups and campaigns against bigotry, is partnering with the Clooney Foundation for Justice to increase its ability to combat hate groups in the USA by highlighting the dangers of white-supremacist ideology.
As the face of CNN, Anderson Cooper makes a very good living as wealthy, privileged white man casting judgments of affiliation upon his political enemies. This includes taking a handful of idiotic white supremacists and declaring they represent millions of Republicans/conservatives, pro-America, Trump supporters, etc. And yet Mr. Cooper himself has a much closer affiliation to slavery than he likely wants his leftist viewers to know. As a descendant of the Vanderbilt family, one of the wealthiest “old money” families in American history, Cooper is a direct descendant of big time slave owners. Cooper’s great-great grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, owned several plantations,
The relationship between President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is so fractured the pair haven’t spoken in weeks, a new report said Tuesday. And McConnell has privately said he doesn’t know if Trump can even salvage his presidency, The New York Times reported. The feud has only deepened since the Senate was unable to repeal Obamacare, and the president’s incendiary comments after the unrest in Charlottesville only made things worse, the paper reported. The rift, marked by Trump’s repeated attacks on the majority leader on Twitter and an angry phone call between the two that deteriorated into cursing, comes at
President Trump’s “America First” base was the biggest loser of Trump’s speech on Afghanistan Monday night, and many quickly expressed their disappointment at the business-as-usual address from the president who had once promised to limit American intervention abroad and focus on nation-building at home. Trump’s speech, in which he pledged to increase the number of troops in the 16-year-war, was the first since the departure of Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had
Students at Howard University, a top-rated historically black college in Washington D.C., took to social media to express their anger over a group of white high school girls wearing pro-Trump clothing who visited the campus on Saturday. Some tweets referring to their visit also suggested the white high school girls should be beaten up. One of the high school guests, in a social media post of her own, said they were simply visiting the school’s cafeteria to get food as part of a larger tour of the nation’s capital, and faced a barrage of insults and aggressive acts, including having
ROCKLIN, Calif. — The Rocklin Academy school board is facing tough questions from parents concerned over a controversial incident involving transgender discussions inside a kindergarten class, CBS Sacramento reports. "These parents feel betrayed by the school district that they were not notified," said Karen England with the Capitol Resource Institute. Parents say besides the books, the student at some point during class also changed clothes and was revealed as her true
